    Garlic fries to die for

Coolest bar in the waterfront features a mixologist named Angie that rules the roost. Making drinks so good you forget you're in a touristy beach bar. Mr. Rick's is my new favorite spot at Avila beach. Angie glides the length of the massive bar like a drink making mermaid. Impressive bloody Mary's and ice cold beers. And you're able to order the best tri-tip sandwiches on the central coast from Angie and you get it at the Customs House next door. Also a top notch choice.

It was my first time visiting Mr Ricks Bar and it was a pretty cool place to chill and sip on your favorite cocktail while Enjoying the outdoor beach views. We didn't order any food just drinks. The Micheladas were pretty good!

Great dog friendly patio across from the water. Order at the counter. We just had drinks and found a great table to enjoy. Bloody and Margarita both really well made. This is how a bloody should be served!

While visiting Cali we went to Avila beach decided to grab a drink after walking the beach and hopped into Mr. Ricks. Dope vibe and live brand on Sundays!! We had a pina colada and a blackberry margarita!! Pina colada came with a fun flamingo straw!!! If you're in the area drop in enjoy the atmosphere!!

Great patio on the water to hang out and have cocktails and bar food. Self service, ordered at the bar. We split an OHC burger with sweet potato fries for a light lunch. Recommend.

Great location with beautiful view, counter service keeps prices, reasonable. Lots of indoor seating with pool table in back. Friendly staff and relaxed ambience. Food was good, the Ahi sandwich was incredible!

Mr Ricks is ALL about location, location, location! Located steps away from the beach, and the Avila Beach Pier, this is the perfect spot to enjoy the outdoor breeze, enjoy some good music, watch the locals surf and enjoy a drink (or food) with a loved one! They are also dog friendly which is always an added bonus! They have a full bar, beer on tap and food options - their clam chowder is one of my ALL TIME favorites and it is even better if you add bacon on top! :) My husband also loves the bloody mary! The service can be hit or miss, based on who is working and how busy it is (especially if it is a weekend), but most times I have visited the bartenders and servers are super nice and helpful! Mr Ricks has live music on weekends and evenings and it is always a busy, and extremely fun, spot to be at! If you are looking for a chill spot to enjoy the the coastal scenery, you have come to the right place!

    Carne asada fries ($20.75)

Food: 4. Came by after picking up a friend from SLO airport. Weather was nice so he wanted a place where we could sit outside. Most places to eat in Avila have outdoor seating. We went here because we have been here before. All ordering is done at the bar counter but food is brought to your table. I ordered their carne asada fries. Portion was large but the price was high (over $20). Food was brought to our table at the right temperature and looked appealing. My carne asada fries were good especially since they met my request for crispy / well done fries. Fries were a big portion and good for 2 or more people.

The bartender named Ryan was kind and helpful. Although, the beer we got was bad and he agreed. He let us choose another. The fishbowl came with sparkles in it! Ocean view location. Inside the thermostat said 83 degrees. It was very hot outside, I wish there could have been cool AC.

    The view!

Not much sense in the hotels in the area giving out a discount card if you are "too busy". Just our family unit would have saved $9 if not for the excruciatingly difficult task to walk over for a few seconds and enter a code. But alas, it was not to be. Food was fine for kids who just want the basics. At least it's clean inside. That's the one thing going for it I guess. And the kids plates are Frisbees, so that's fun. But please don't think a tip is warranted after waiting for seven minutes to get a manager. I understand it's a manager code, but they aren't state secrets. We're six families deep on this trip, so that's significant "up charge". We will visit other restaurants during our stay from now on.

The way it works is you order at the bar, and then they will take down your phone number to text when your order is ready. However, it seemed like they were more using the loud speaker because I didn't receive the text until 9:57pm that night. My order was ready at 6:53, so we were looking at about a 23 minute wait - which I think is fair given how busy it was. The food itself was just okay to me. I didn't think it was anything to write home about, but that could be because I had some really great tri tip at the SLO Farmer's Market the day before. However, I will say, I really liked this place for the environment. There was live music, and a lot of table and chairs to just look out at the water and just enjoy the views. It was super family friendly, and I found it to be really enjoyable to just sit and hang out. I did find it odd that they close early (8pm) on a Friday night. At 7:59pm, the employees will come up to you to let you know that they close at 8pm, so it seems like they are strict about that.

We were placed on the back patio, which was beautiful, covered, heated, and thoughtfully decorated, making it a very comfortable and inviting space. We ordered the Cajun Seafood Boil, and it did not disappoint. It came with a generous amount of crab, shrimp, lobster, clams, and mussels. The seasoning was bold and flavorful without being overwhelming. The corn, potatoes, and sausage were perfectly portioned, complementing the seafood instead of taking the focus away from it. The rich, buttery garlic sauce tied everything together and was absolutely delicious. We also ordered the half-shell oysters, which were the perfect medium size. They were meaty and had the rich, briny flavor I enjoy. Our server, Angel, was outstanding. Our food came out quickly, she checked on us regularly, and she was attentive to everything we needed without any delay. Overall, we had a fantastic dining experience from start to finish. I was getting anxious, ah my breakfast arrived. Just as I had asked for with a 8z bowl of fresh fruit, watermelon, honeydew, and cantaloupe all ripe and tasty. The Omelet was perfect a good portion of mixed seafood with a kinda creamy sauce. I liked it. I had to ask for a top up on my coffee, she did check on me later. I had left my visa card on the table so that could get taken care of now, she had just been sat three larger tables. The breakfast was quite good, to the point, no parsley, served hot. That was it for me, forty bucks for breakfast these days. I was cheep on the tip, I didn't feel the love, fruit was charged as a side at $6, which I gave up my starch. An Unforgettable Birthday Dinner with Breathtaking Ocean Views!…read more We came to Ventana Grill in Pismo Beach for a Sunday night dinner date to celebrate my wife's birthday. This place definitely gets packed, so I highly recommend reserving a table in advance. We were lucky enough to get a window seat, and the outdoor patio views of the ocean are simply amazing! On top of that, the staff here has definitely become even more friendly--our server, Zach, was super efficient and attentive throughout our meal. The food was incredible from start to finish: * Mahi Mahi Fish Ceviche: We started with this alongside fresh tortilla chips, and it was honestly one of the best ceviches we've ever had. * Clam Chowder Soup: This special clam chowder came served with Parmesan cheese bread, which was absolute perfection. Again, hands down one of the best soups we've tasted! * Molcajete Surtido: For our main dish, we ordered this classic feast loaded with grilled colossal shrimp, arrachera steak, chicken breast, chorizo, spring onion, jalapeño peppers, nopalitos, avocado, pork rinds, molcajete salsa, queso fresco, and corn tortillas, served with a side of rice and beans. All the meats were so tender and flavorful, and the rice and beans were really nice. We were so full that we didn't even get to touch the tortillas! To top off a wonderful evening, they brought out a complimentary ice cream with a candle to celebrate my wife's birthday, which was such a thoughtful and sweet touch. Whether you're planning a special date night or a family outing, we definitely recommend Ventana Grill!
