i always get the rare brisket pho with extra lime and it never disappoints! viet coffee always a plus too

Today I had the pleasure of eating at Mr. Pho. Parking was a little difficult and I had to park a few blocks away but that's to be expected as we went on a weekend. The restaurant itself was very clean, I mean it was spotless. We ordered the banh mi with grilled pork, summer rolls with grilled pork and rice vermicilli with egg rolls and grilled pork (wow we ordered more pork than I realized) Overall, I feel that Mr Pho is a good starting point for people who are new to viet food as the flavors are much more mild. I do think it tastes more Chinese-Vietnamese than authentic Vietnamese as the vegetables in the banh mi weren't pickled as they usually are and the grilled pork definitely does have Vietnamese flavors involved but they were more subdued. The summer rolls also had a bit more lettuce than I'm used to and there weren't any leeks in them. That being said, everything still tasted fresh and yummy just not very authentic tasting. Special shout out to the wonderful service, our waiter was a young man who was very attentive to us and the other patrons in the restaurant. Overall, I think this was a nice place to try and I would like to try the pho next time as I do see other views raving about it! read more

Very Disappointing Experience -- Extremely Different Attitudes Toward Chinese Customers The female owner/manager of this restaurant had an extremely unpleasant attitude toward us. When the male server initially made a mistake while taking our order, she harshly reprimanded him in Chinese. At first, we actually thought she was his mother and assumed she was simply a very strict "tiger mom." Later, she came to our table and asked my husband about the details of our order in Chinese. Her tone was still extremely rude and aggressive. At the time, we were busy dealing with something on our phones, so we decided not to make an issue of it. We thought perhaps she was simply having a bad day, and because she is older, we chose to be understanding. However, later we saw her speaking English with customers at another table who were not Chinese. Her attitude was completely different. She was polite, friendly, and spoke in a very gentle voice. The contrast was shocking. When she spoke Chinese to us, she was practically shouting at us, as if we had done something wrong or had somehow offended her. This was especially disappointing because this is a Vietnamese restaurant, and when we first came yesterday, we initially communicated in English. The male server served us throughout the meal and was very friendly. When he noticed that we were speaking Chinese to each other, he kindly switched to Chinese and continued communicating with us in Chinese. Since his attitude was so friendly and helpful, we naturally spoke Chinese with him as well. The female owner also speaks Chinese, but we did not have any interaction with her yesterday. If we had known yesterday how differently this woman would treat Chinese-speaking customers, we absolutely would not have come back today. I am writing this review to let other Chinese-speaking customers know what we experienced, and also to make the owner aware that treating customers differently because they are Chinese or speak Chinese is unacceptable and can be perceived as discriminatory. We chose not to take further action because we are traveling and simply did not want to spend our time arguing or escalating the situation. One more thing I learned only after the meal: the male server is NOT her son. He was simply a server helping at the restaurant. If I had known that from the beginning, I would have stopped what I was doing and spoken up when she treated my husband so disrespectfully. To other Chinese customers: if you come here and experience similar treatment, please don't automatically assume that the person is simply having a bad day or that you should tolerate it because she is older. You deserve to be treated with the same basic courtesy and respect as every other customer. read more

What an exquisite experience! The interior is decorated nicely and super clean. Chairs and tables were comfortable and come with any condiments, utensils, and napkins you might need. The server was also the owner I believe and she was so friendly and attentive to all our needs while dining in. Started out with the pork eggroll and spring roll appetizers. The eggroll was not what I expected but didn't taste bad, I just preferred the spring roll. It had more flavor and veggies. Both very reasonably priced and came out piping hot from the kitchen with dipping sauce. I got the shaking beef entree which comes with white rice. There are chopsticks on the table but they brought me out a fork and spoon with my meal. What a great flavor on this dish! There are chopped onions, green peppers, and beef atop what seemed like a bed of seasoned cabbage. I thoroughly enjoyed it and had enough to bring some home for leftovers. My mother got the beef banh mi and loved how crisp the outside of the bun was with a soft interior. The veggies complemented the flavorful beef very well with a slight spicy kick from the jalapeno. I needed to try their thai tea so I got it to go and it came out promptly after ordering. Also delicious. Ordered a few things for pick up to carry back to where I was staying. Prices were reasonable and interior was clean. Started with the spring rolls which were very good. Had the meatball pho and this was excellent. Broth had great flavor and meatballs were good. I'm a big pad Thai guy so I ordered the beef pad Thai to try. The beef was excellent but the noodles were not great (too thick) and the sauce was off. Wasn't a big fan of the pad Thai. Would Love to try some of the vermicelli and other pho dishes. read more

My mom and I were downtown shopping and happened to park in front of the restaurant. We had never been but were drawn in by the smell of the broth. I came in to check out the menu and of course ended up sitting down to order. My mom and I split an order of spring rolls and a beef pho. The spring rolls were delicious with the peanut sauce. The pho tasted like it had been brewing all day it had such deep flavor. We shared a pot of jasmine tea which was perfect. One woman was running the entire restaurant taking to go orders and servicing all of the tables and she did amazing. Will definitely be back. read more

The perfect place for a rainy afternoon pho. I orders the chicken pho which had shredded chicken, not something I'm used to however the flavor was still hearty and full. Stopped in at about 7:30 on a Friday night. No wait. Was promptly greeted and seated. Mr. Pho offers a fair sized menu of various Vietnamese offerings. For my meal I ordered the rocket shrimp, the pork steam dumplings, and beef pho. All three were out to my table within 15 minutes- with a nice stagger of the appetizers. The dumplings arrived first and they were steaming hot. Tender and savory. No complaints whatsoever. The rocket shrimp came and were a little different than what I was expecting. They were wrapped in what I think was an eggroll sheet with the tail protruding from the end. Again, steaming hot. These were nice and had a good amount of shrimp, but I think were a bit pricey at $10 for 5. The sweet chili dipping sauce was a nice touch. The pho was phenomenal. I have to say, I think it's better than the Vietnamese Noodle House. It's got more meat. Steak, brisket, meatballs, tendon, and tripe come together to form a hearty and nourishing bowl. Don't be put off by the tendon and tripe- they were incredibly tender and flavorful. I was kinda surprised. The bowl came with beansprouts, Thai basil, jalapeño, and lime on the side so you can customize the bowl in your own way. I like all that stuff but I'm sure there's pickier eaters out there and they would appreciate it. Damage rang in at ~36 for two appetizers and a large bowl of pho. I loved the meal I had from here last night. This is one of the few places in the area that is open later on Sunday. My food was ready really fast. The storefront is small with a few tables for seating, but I opted to do to-go. The pho and egg rolls were great. The egg rolls were crispy and flavorful. The pho had all fresh ingredients with a rich broth. I was so full afterwards. I also tried a Vietnamese tea that was not too sweet and complimented the meal. We decided to try Mr. Pho out after seeing a post about them on a local food page. It was only a few days after they were open. I try to wait it out with new restaurants but we love Vietnamese food, plus we were in the area. The three of us couldn't decide on an appetizer so we opted for the house special platter (egg rolls, summer roll, rocket shrimp, chicken wings). I believe it was the owner brought out the appetizer and explained what each sauce was for. Everything was delicious and I love the size of the summer roll compared to other Vietnamese restaurants(I make them this size at home lol). My oldest loved the chicken wings, I took a little bite(saved them for her) and they were good. The rocket shrimp and egg roll were just as good as everything on the platter. The sauces complement each appetizers(I forgot what the white sauce was, it was for chicken wings but they really didn't need it). For entrees my husband ordered the Steak & Brisket Phó , I ordered Rice Vermicelli Bowl w/Egg Roll, Meatball & Grilled Pork , my oldest ordered Shrimp Fried Rice . My husband loved the broth of the pho(he'll add more meat next time, not enough), he had me taste the broth and I definitely agree it was delicious and might surpass our usual go to place . His came with bean sprouts, lime, Thai basil, jalapeños. At the table there were chopsticks in like a caddy(regular utensils too), hoisin and sriracha(no chili oil). I loved my vermicelli bowl, the grilled pork was flavorful and not dry. The meatballs were slice and were delicious, a little greasy(I love, some may not), the egg rolls were good like the appetizer. It has enough vegetables and sauce to pour over. My oldest loved her shrimp fried rice. It was a good size portion with good size shrimp(I was surprised). As for drinks she got strawberry bubble tea, I got Vietnamese iced coffee(so good), my husband had just a soft drink. First week of opening: Unfortunately, this was a miss for us. The summer rolls had too much lettuce & little other flavor for our liking. The Banh Mi, which may be total preference, the bread was good but the rest of the flavors did not shine though & having the meat thin & cold just wasn't our forte. We ended with a pork & egg roll rice vermicelli, which were all tasty in themselves but again seemed to lack flavor. I absolutely MUSTA try the PHO & Thai tea and coffee, though! And, they replied to my post on Instagram with thoughtfulness, it's a hard break in downtown cuse so I am excited for their future read more

We're passing through Syracuse and we happened to see this place. The staff are super friendly and super accommodating. The restaurant has many tables/seats, clean and seemed family friendly. The food is also great, fast, and affordable. It seems a lot of people order take out from this place. Will definitely drop by again if we are in downtown Syracuse. Me and my beautiful pregnant wife had a late dinner here. Not many people at the time, but overall a very clean and open dining space. Beautiful presentation of food. Delicious summer rolls. My Meatball Rice Vermicelli was amazing! Staff were very kind and cheerful. My gorgeous pregnant wife had a coffee, which helps her sleep. I'm originally from Seattle, a city with a pho place every few blocks, and I can honestly say that the broth at Mr. Pho's easily stands up to anything from home. A bowl is priced at $13-16, depending on the protein options, and I think the quality of the broth matches this price point. You can actually taste the different spices in the broth, plenty of noodles for the size of bowl, and it's flavorful without being too salty. My husband tried the vermicelli dishes, which he also loved. We will return, especially when the winter cold of CNY means a bowl of pho sounds like the best thing in the world! read more

Would like to give them a five but have to detract because of plastic straws I don't tolerate them. The food was good but they can't make it spicy, too many angels here. My brother said the vermicelli was overcooked, haven't had it before so can't make judgment. I just wish they could give up on the English and make decent spicy food.
