So let me get this straight...they get knocked because they don't want people stealing? I mean, this isn't a Jane's Addiction song; c'mon, folks. ;-) There are a handful of places in Healdsburg I would frequent (I visit SoCo often enough but not that far north), and this is one of them. The guy who called it irreverent is pretty close, they have some pretty funny stuff. But there is more traditional "gift shop stuff" too. So if you want to go with the flow or be a stuffy oenophile, you'll probably find something you like. Personally, I'm gonna avoid the Healdsburg gear. Scottsdale is its own tourist town, and reppin' another is against city ordinance. (no, not really) Just put your tongue in your cheek, relax and buy something. Buy...not steal. read more

I rarely leave reviews but after going to Mr. Moon's for the first time a few months ago to check it out because I had heard excellent things, I was very disappointed. I walked in and the woman working was speaking to another lady and complaining about teachers and how little they do and how awful they are - as a teacher myself, I was hardhearted to hear this. Here I am planning to spend money in this local shop to then overhear horrible things being said about my profession. I left right away - The women working also never stopped her rant to acknowledge me being in there. Fast forward to this weekend, I decided enough time had passed and I'd like to give it a second chance. I love shopping locally and was in the market for candles, cards, and small gifts. Well I walk in, again no one greets me, and I hear the women working complaining to a person who I presume is her friend. The woman had a large dog and they were complaining / arguing and it was very uncomfortable. The atmosphere was negative and uninviting. I would maybe go a third time but only if the employees get a lesson on customer service because complaining in such a small space is really unwelcoming. I get times are tough and stressful, but work, in front of customers, is not the place to air your negativity. read more

DGD purchase a wonderful pair of Chain Mail Long Drop Earrings by SG Liquidmetal here many years ago, and I went in hoping they still carried this designer. I was not disappointed! The associate told me he was based in FL, and inventory was low, but luckily the ones I wanted were in stock. Mr Moon's does it again! read more

Although they have some cool stuff, after multiple visits with the same feeling and vibe, I choose to bypass this store when we have out of town guests. Sorry. I absolutely love this store but unfortunately the customer service could use some work. I just stopped by to pick up a few birthday items. The brunette woman behind the counter did not greet me whatsoever. I found something I liked right away I asked to set the item on the counter the only response I got was "sure". She began to ring me up didn't ask me a single thing until I paid and asked if I wanted a bag. And then last minute as my back is turned rudely said have a good day. In my opinion she was very unpleasant and really could use some work on how to properly treat customers when they are in the store. I'm 28 years old maybe it's a age discrimination thing because I'm not some older tourists shopping around. I've lived in sonoma county my whole life and love supporting small businesses but honestly just from this interaction I won't be returning to spend any of my hard-earned money here. read more

This is such a great gift shop. If I had a gift shop, I'd want to sell all the same things. The person working that day, who may have been the owner, was very welcoming and detailed about every item we showed interest in. There were a good amount of toys and keepsakes that my daughter and even myself wanted. All the items sold here are of nice quality and seem to be carefully selected. And sometimes when I enter stores similar to this, I don't always feel a sense of welcome and it can feel bit hoiddy toiddy, but not here. This place was one of my favorite shops to go to in Healdsburg, because of the great service and the selection of gifts/toys. read more

The store is a cute well curated and a 'go-to' gift shop. I especially like the baby items and brands they carry, plus it is locally owned. So what's not to like? I will gladly tell you: Recently I went into the store with my sister and my baby we where fallowed around the tiny shop with suspicion. I felt uncomfortable and very unwelcome. The employee actually stopped me on the way out to look in the bottom of my stroller because she thought that we may have stolen something! If I lived in Healdsburg, I'd come to Mr. Moon's for my greeting cards. They have a good selection (I'm very picky about my greeting cards) of cards. The variety is eclectic and suitable for a wide range of ages (from baby clothes, small toys to candles, soaps, jewelry, incense, Harvey's seatbelt purses, baskets, hats). They stock quite a bit of jewelry and some thick looking colored glass bowls. I liked the Indian fabric items they had including some cotton robes for $54 or so (you can see one of them in Jim W H's picture). They also have Healdsburg tees for the entire family. The store is similar to Heartfelt + Tutti Frutti (in SF) - fun, moderately priced. Nice selection of gifts, not too touristy. They even had greeting cards on sale - something you don't see too often. read more

Most Healdsburg locals will be quick to point out that we can't actually afford to shop on the plaza. It's pretty much a tourist only zone, economically speaking. But Mr. Moon's is my exception. Sure it has some ridiculously overpriced tchotchkes ($40.00 for a baby outfit destined to be covered in smushed peas and carrots? Come on!), but I keep coming back and here's why: Every time a birthday comes and I need a last minute gift, Mr. Moon's comes through. They change stock frequently enough that there's always something new to imagine your hipster friends opening with glee. I mean sure, they have staples like pirate bandaids, but there's also lots of random stuff that crops up. Past favorites include handmade animal finger puppets (Gertrude Stein The Rhinoceros graces our paper towel holder), gnome soap (allegedly made by gnomes, imported from Norway or Sweden or some other gnome-friendly bit of Scandinavia), a garden in a bag (just add water and place in window!), and a metal wind-up panda bear, who plays a drum (the box called him "Amusing and Gay "). Clearly the elusive (but perhaps omniscient?) Mr. Moon has good taste, and what's more, he's smart enough to know that people in need of silly gifts will pay inflated prices for them if they are relatively inexpensive. All of the examples above were under $10.00. Additionally there's a lot of nice, locally made jewelry for fairly reasonable prices, and scads of charming greeting cards, which really aren't much more than I suppose one would pay at Hallmark or similar. When you consider on top of everything else that none of the Mr. Moon's staff has ever sneered at me for spendng just a couple of dollars in the store (even when I realized I had no cash and had to charge a $2.00 purchase to my debit card), it's a pretty winning place to shop. read more

Mr. Moons used to be a favorite place to shop for cards, gifts and unique items you can't find elsewhere until New Years Eve. I stopped in to return a broken bracelet my brother-in-law had bought for my sister for their 15th wedding anniversary. He lives in HI and couldn't return it. The store has a no return policy which I respect IF I had been returning something due to dislike but broken in my humble option warrants a different policy. The shop owner admitted she had seen this previously with the same bracket but only reconfirmed their no return policy. She was out of control argumentative and rude telling me finally she would take it back only so 'my bad energy' never entered her store again. Just so happened it was my birthday and until my run in with the store owner, my day had been going pretty good. Awesome way to start a birthday. And don't worry my 'bad energy' will never cross your doorway again. read more

Right in Healdsburg Square, it's perfect for picking up something quirky. Lots of cute baby clothes, unusual gifts, jewelry, witty stationary, it's hard to pin down. I guess tchotchkes is a good word for a lot of their merch. Whenever I go in, there are always lots of pre-teen girls running around with big smiles on their faces, and their Moms having an equally good time as well. read more

Magnets!! This was the only store I've found (after visiting several) that has souvenir magnets with "Healdsburg" written on it. The other stores only have "Sonoma county" "Russian River valley" and "California" magnets. read more

It's where I go to get all my fun greeting cards, beautiful journals, and magnets that they always have pleanty of fun ones ready to roll. I had walked all over the square in healdsburg but could not find what I was looking for. I walked into Mr Moons & the fabulous Jane Philips greeted me, Mr Moon did not have them but Jane loves turquoise & has her own personal collection of turquoise jewelry. Cute, kitschy shop with a ton of goodies that are basically useless to every day but you feel the need to purchase anyway. It is a great card stop when looking for something special in a card. They have some jewelry and bags and a TON of plastic do-dad's and little toys. There is a small baby section which has cute stuff too. Overall a fun place to browse around but unless your money is burning a hole in your pocket there is nothing life saving in the store, it is a fun place to shop though (don't get me wrong, I'm not hating-just saying). read more

But of all the stores on the Healdsburg Square, this is where I found a high-quality leather purse for under $100 that's big enough to hold my Kindle, wallet, and other essentials, but not too big and clunky! Love this place! Reminds me of Heartfelt in my old Bernal Hts neighborhood in SF. Sure, what they sell is very nice, but I stop in whenever I'm in town thanks to their unfailingly cheerful, helpful and super-nice staff, who are always willing to give good advice, whether you're looking for the perfect sparkly-crystal earrings for a 12-year-old's birthday or a nice summer handbag. It's like, gasp, they actually like their jobs and want to see you happy with what you buy! Great selection of cards for all occasions, lots of charming, pretty gift items, from sweet made-by-a-collective-in-Portland fabric handbags (yes, with a bird on them!) to cool jewelry and so-soft cotton robes in beautiful summery prints. The store is well stocked with well-chosen stuff--nothing junky or tacky. Nothing for the guys here, but ladies, if you need a last-minute gift or a pretty treat for yourself, Mr Moon's is the one!
