Cool Hand Lu says; great little market and lunch spot. This has been a nice spot for me to grab some rolls, shumai, chips, etc... The prices are not too high and their selection is pretty good. The sushi chef also makes tasty rolls and is always pleasant when I ask for more wasabi. I was a bit disappointed when I found out the bibimbap was discontinued because they weren't making enough money from it. It was a good lunch option for me... All in all, it's a great market and I'll have it in mind whenever I'm in the area and need lunch or snacks. read more

Just moved into the area and was scared that everything in NY would be expensive. I was estatic to see $1/lb strawberries and $1/lb organic green grapes!! There are many other good deals too. Clean, lots of quick food options (sushi, wraps), open 24 hours, good beer and ice cream selection. Good inexpensive produce and yummy bakery items, good coffee. Friendly and great customer service. They also have an ATM which is a bonus (but they accept debit/credit too don't worry). Cons: limited some brand options and some items overpriced but it is a small local neighborhood shop so don't hold it against them! read more

I am a fan of the juice bar here - it is a good price which is why I come here for my juices as opposed to going to other places in BK or NYC that can be a bit pricey. They don't hold back with the spinach, ginger and all the healthy goodness you want in your juice and pack it with nutrients. read more

One word: pretzels. That's the only thing this place doesn't have that I desperately want. (Wait maybe iced coffee too...) LOVE Mr Mango! The store has a great assortment of products. Everyone at the cash register is super nice and friendly. The fresh juice station is also good but the prep time is a little long so order if you're not in a rush! This place is pretty awesome. Better than your usual bodega, Mr. Mango has fairly priced produce (whattup $1.49 avocado ) and friendly staff. They carry a big selection of produce, yogurts and cheeses, crackers and chips, canned/boxed foods, and some prepared foods as well. And their staff (especially Jose) is so friendly! read more

I am very insulted. I went into Mr. Mango tonight after reading the wonderful reviews. One of the guys followed me throughout the entire store. I stopped to look at the produce. He stared at me. I moved on to see the organic produce, he continued to stare at only me. When I walked further into the store, he followed me and stood directly adjacent to me. When I moved he followed and moved and stood next to me again. He did that two more times. When I said something about it he laughed and said oh no I work in the store. I knew that. When he stood next to me he fumbled with the items. I spoke to the cashier about it and said perhaps I don't need to come back here. He said, don't. I will conversation ensued no more than 10 seconds. I left the store. I mentioned it to someone who was walking in. I said I'm a teacher for 25 years, and I've never been so insulted going into a produce market. The gentleman said, I am a teacher also. I am retired. I told him my story, and he suggested I go and make a complaint to the manager. The cashier and stocker boy refused to get the store owner. I am posting their pictures, because the cashier thought it was funny when I said the guy was following me. The guy following me told the stock boy not to get the manager, or owner. And he disappeared into a back door. I don't want to assume the problem occurred just because I am black. I happen to have been the only black woman in the store at that time. We were walking around fort Greene and stumbled on this grocer. I was happy to see the great deals (I.e. Packaged veggies/ produce). It is incredibly clean and well lit. They are my favorite grocery store. I walk about a mile to go to them because they are the best. They never overcharge me, despite what other reviewers say. Their produce varies often with new things. They have many of the Asian goods I want without me having to go to 8 Ave or Chinatown. No one has better prices in this region. Huge fan! I absolutely LOVE this place!! I am a native Fort Greene resident and have seen the neighborhood lose small grocers like this one over the years. Like another reviewer mentioned, I hated that our only grocery options had become big chains like Stop & Shop and Key Food (both overpriced and mediocre quality produce). I am so happy to have Mr. Mango and the other Mr. Fruit stores (Mr. Coco, etc.) in the area. They all offer fresh, good quality produce at affordable prices. Of the Mr. Fruit stores, I think Mr. Mango has the best and widest selection. Produce prices can vary slightly from week to week, probably based on what's in season - some weeks you'll get 7 or 10 limes for $1, other weeks only 4 or 5 limes for $1 - but no matter what, you will always get a great deal. They also have a wide selection of affordable pantry basics and specialty items inside. Every staff member at Mr. Mango is helpful and friendly. I actually look forward to doing my grocery shopping here every week. Plus, they take credit cards! read more

I work in Fort Greene and one of my favorite parts of my morning is walking by Mr. Mango and seeing what produce is on sale. They have a rotating stock of unbelievably cheap avocados, blueberries, pears, strawberries, peppers, onions, potatoes- you name it! There's also an area with baked goods, fresh squeezed juices, and fruit cups. I grab something from here several times a week, in addition to my weekly produce shopping. The staff is incredibly nice and the store is impeccably clean and well stocked. Part of me wants to keep Mr. Mango a secret so it's not swarming with people, but, Mr. Mango is really the best and deserves all of the business it can get! read more

I don't even have the words to describe how much I love Mr. Mango. Mr. Coco is closer but it just cannot fill my needs like Mr. Mango. I don't care that it is a bit far for me, I've walked out of this store with three bags LOADED with produce for under twenty dollars. It is cheap but the products last a good while. From spinach to strawberries, squash to scallions, Mr. Mango has basically anything you could need plus baked goods, bibimbap and a juice bar. There is so much else that the Mr. has to offer. When I shop for produce elsewhere, I almost feel like I'm cheating. I'm so grateful to have found this grocery store. You can eat for the whole week for under thirty dollars. I'm honestly a little hesitant to say more because I don't want everyone know about this little secret gem. This is a staple of the neighborhood and I am a very frequent customer. read more

Quality of goods is good. Service is not or miss (indifferent). My gripe is many of not most items are, like the usual NYC corner store, unmarked. I don't think that is legal. Fruits are cheap, but premade products are what you expect. But consumers have the right to know. read more

This is a great grocery store! They have a good variety of fruits and vegetables (including some harder to find ethnic fruits when they are in season). My favorite is their salad bar - large, interesting salads made to your order specifications. Service is quick and friendly. read more

The prices are excellent and fresh produces variety is good however I have been there around 9am and the employees bringing the cases to be exposed outside the store were rough and disrespectfull, laughing among themselves when I happen to drop accidentally a vegetable due to the confined space. When I got out one of them was blocking the exit and when my cart bumps into him I could hear him swear behind my back. What a contrast with the young female cashier who was so nice and efficient. read more

The one thing missing from Ft. Greene was a really great, cheap-yet-quality grocery store. And now I think we have one. Granted, some of the things are a bit pricey (the meat products are all organic, for instance), but the produce is SO cheap and amazing. This place makes me happy. read more
