It's actually about frustration in signing up for online shopping; I have tried randomly over a period of months to get a functioning account and have never succeeded. Nor can I get anyone who "does" the online service management or get relevant answers from the Contact Us link. Last night I got to the checkout, and then the site kept asking me for the order number. ??? That ended the order going through. Mohammed tried to help by doing it verbally over the phone but there were too many items to deal with. It had been a go-to-shop for me since it opened, but after an accident I can't easily go in-person and now apparently I can't shop there at all or find anyone who is responsible/helpful for the site's customer functionality. read more

This has been my (very) local grocery store for over a decade, and unfortunately it has taken a steep turn downhill. What was once a family-owned, excellent grocery store run by wonderful people who cared is now a Key Food with a different name. I mean that literally; they were bought by Key Food during the pandemic, and they laid off all the employees (that we loved), brought in more self-checkout, and the quality of the produce has fallen off a cliff, while the prices have climbed to extortionist levels. For the most part, the replacement staff is quite nice and usually helpful (there are a couple bad apples that seem upset you need assistance). The guys behind the prepared food counter will do a solid job on your sandwich, and the cashiers are usually pleasant and almost always efficient. They still have a rewards program where if you spend around $250 and you get like $10 credit. (Hey, it's better than nothing.) The expansion of the store a few years back means they truly have just about everything, and the beer and ice cream selections are actually phenomenal (but overpriced). However, produce we buy is occasionally going bad already, and the prices are wildly out of control. I paid $7 for two onions last week. It becomes harder and harder to justify shopping here when it's more expensive than Fresh Direct, and vastly more pricey than the fruit and vegetable spots a few blocks away. I don't risk the meat and fish any longer (not with Paisanos and Fish Tales in the hood), although Bell & Evans chicken is quite reliable. Basically, Brooklyn Fare went from an incredible market to have across street to a last-resort for items I forgot to purchase elsewhere in the neighborhood, at reasonable prices. They know we're coming in when we need something, and we're going to pay for it. Despite these shortcomings, it's still great to have a corner store that has just about everything. I can still run out and grab some milk for my wife's cookies when I've finished the last drop and she looks particularly stabby. But it's going to cost $7 for half a gallon. read more

i need to warn people about this place bc i did a grocery shop here and it looks like they have all these good brands that ill get at a co-op or other spots, but a lot of what i got was rancid. i got some mozzerella cheese and the expiration date was in 2 weeks or so and it was ROTTEN. Then i got the vegan sausage that i often get at other stores and the texture was nasty and off. its like they get the rotted batches of brands. some of the veggies i got were decent and obviously non perishables (popcorn etc) were fine, but do not trust anything perishable here read more

I go to a Brooklyn Fare since it's in my hood. I usually get halal salami with provolone & coleslaw on a seeded hero with mustard. They make the best sandwiches with lots of toppings plus you get a small bag of chips & a can of soda for under $10.00! You can't beat it! This is the closest grocery store to me, so 99% of the time I stop in out of convenience. I actually get legitimately annoyed having to come here. And it's sad, because when I first moved to the area, this was a great place. First up, the woman manager might actually be the worst customer service employee I have ever encountered. I once went in to get some baking ingredients, and the discount didn't ring up at the self-service register (which, we'll get to that). She seemed extremely pissed off at me for...buying things? She had me move to a cashier, a younger guy who was very friendly. Something was up with the register, and it took a little longer than expected. Not a big deal. The manager was berating the employee, literally telling him he was ruining her day and that he was an idiot. She's also always working, looking pissed off and mouthing off to the staff. I get that customer service is awful (I've worked my share of service jobs), but I don't know, maybe consider a different career if you can't even treat your staff members with respect? Management aside, the prices here on some things are actually offensive. I get that inflation is crazy at the moment, but Brooklyn Fare is price gouging to the point where "we're a local store!" is a complete BS excuse. $7.50 for a package of Oreos? $9 for a standard package of butter? $7 for eggs? When the other stores in the area are selling these things for almost HALF the price, you're absolutely insane if you think it's acceptable to charge people that much money. The self-service checkout doesn't ring up discounts half the time. After entering my phone number (for the store reward points) for nearly a year, I was surprised to learn that...those points were never added to my account. I've also routinely found things on the shelf that are expired. For a store whose ONE JOB is to sell groceries, it can't seem to do anything right. read more

Gotta be honest, it took me a while to appreciate Brooklyn Fare. It's cluttered and the aisles are tight, plus you're always dodging the workers who seem to be restocking into perpetuity - not a recipe for a stress-free grocery shopping experience. However, Brooklyn Fare proved to be clutch and absolutely essential during the pandemic, and I now will always have a soft spot for it. While so many stores were struggling to keep basic items on the shelves, Brooklyn Fare was abundantly stocked during the worst point for the country. Fresh meat, herbs, and veggies, dried/canned goods, beeeeeeeeeer - they had it all. The floor-to-ceiling inventory they keep on hand for many items probably helped, but I was truly grateful for this store. Times are fortunately (mostly) back to normal now, but I still go to Brooklyn Fare for the essentials. It's not perfect by any means (make sure to check expiration dates), but they have just about everything you need and then some. I am grateful for it. read more

I am extremely lucky to have a Brooklyn Fare around the corner from my apartment. Brooklyn Fare deserves this 5 star review not only because it's a great grocery store with a nicely curated selection, but because it is SO much better that 99% of grocery stores in NYC. I used to live around the corner from Associated Supermarket... and ever since I've learned to appreciate a clean environment with a decent selection. What's great about Brooklyn Fare is that they manage to pack in gourmet alternatives alongside the typical selection. I like to cook some advanced recipes that require more selective ingredients, and I'm pretty sure 99 out of 100 times Brooklyn Fare has had exactly what I needed. Things that could improve: -I wish the bread selection was larger and more organized + more options -the seafood section is pretty blah Things Brooklyn Fare does very well: -the ice cream selection is BY FAR the best of any grocery store I've been to in the city, and possibly ever. However, a pint of artisanal ice cream can run you up to $10 -I love their precut/spiralized vegetables and their housemate pesto -the cheese selection is solid If you live in this area, you'd have to agree that Brooklyn Fare is awesome. During Covid Brooklyn Fare was acquired by Key Foods. They quickly replaced staff and management. It went from a great neighborhood grocery store with an awesome staff to a dump overnight. The new Brooklyn fare is mismanaged, unfriendly, disorganized, an overpriced mess. Warning: do not purchase perishables and/or any of the meats. Consistently expired, and obviously decaying. I guess I'm in a 5 star mood today. I really like this grocery store. It has absolutely everything you need...ok maybe not absolutely everything, but I often come here with a recipe list of obscure ingredients and have never been disappointed. They have food to fit all dietary needs, butcher/deli, fresh fish, tons of fresh produce in all sorts of variations, bakery, organic and nonorganic, pre-made meals and sides...I think you probably get the point : ). I find the prices here to be reasonable and though the line here is often long it moves really fast. That brings me to the employees who are very professional and know how to get you what you need quickly so you can go home and eat...isn't that the whole point? Four stars for convenience, layout, and selections, olive oil tasting, gourmet dinners, and a cheese selection that is commendable, however this spot is super duber pricey. It is conveniently located Downtown Brooklyn within walking distance of the Barclay's Center and Macy's, (Michael Jackson's "Beat It" Video was filmed like around the corner down the block literally), the layout of the store is intriguing as you shop down the very roomy aisles your last aisle will land you directly to the exit where friendly cashier are eagerly waiting to serve you. Lines move quickly. The price...the fung shui set up, the super sexy olive display, and that immaculate meat presentation...all that ambience, the oooooohhhsss and ahhhhhhhhhs are passed to you in the prices of your everyday items and the mark up compared to the local chain stores is staggering, but look its Downtown Brooklyn which transients mid westerners have made a mecca for hipsters and other wanna be New Yorkers, so these prices come with the territory. I used to work here as a cashier I loved some of the customers very chill and very good and fun employees. The Brooklyn Fare is a 21st century neighborhood grocer in the Brooklyn community. They have gourmet groceries, prepared meals, olive oil tastings (and other samples), and fresh produce. The staff here are super friendly, and the place itself is just jampacked with goodies galore. My husband and I stopped here to wander a bit before our dinner, and it was wonderful to see the different meats, cheeses, prepared food in the deli section, international packaged goods, and fresh vegetables and fruit in the produce section. For a non-local the store's physical depth and labyrinthine aisles was pretty cool, given its small appearance from the street. Not only is it incredibly expensive, but they also tend to mislabel items....putting meat under organic grass fed and charging more, when the packaging clearly doesn't state so. I feel ripped off. I do not recommend this place out of health concerns alone. On four separate occasions, I have purchased meat or seafood labeled with a following week sell-by date. Each of those times, the meat was well past spoiled with at least 4 days left on the sell-by period. This was not an isolated incident. It's like they get their deliveries and let them sit in a hot store room for a couple of days before putting them in the refrigerator. Pros: * bacon was great! * cold brew coffee was also great! * servers were friendly Cons: * biscuits and "country" gravy were awful. I need to either rename the dish or change the recipe. * Hale the hazelnut, maple pancakes looked amazing, but that's where it ended. I find it insane that the mislabeling is a mistake at this point and with such frequency. Also, at most stores, if it rings up wrong, it's free... here, they don't even apologize. Items to watch out for: Beyond Meat sausages, burgers and ground meat. Veggies and cheese from the cheese case. The Beyond Meat burgers ring up over $2 more than the $11.99 price. Brooklyn Fare aspires to be a specialty grocery store but falls short in so many way. Their produce is routinely limp and wilted. You'll often walk see their staff stripping off the rusted parts of greens and consolidating the remaining parts in a saleable "whole". Meats and fish are often stale. Prepackaged foods where you could get anywhere are marked up beyond belief. I don't see how they can rationalize their prices. As for service, folks behind cashiers are fine. But I'll often find myself if not unacknowledged then just ignored. There's really no reason to shop here unless you want to get ripped off. read more

Brooklyn Fare has been a life saver during this pandemic. I've ordered groceries online three times now - at first, because it was one of the only feasible options I could find (amazon prime and instacart deliveries are impossible to get these days). I continue to order because their website makes it convenient to buy things I can't get at my corner grocer, the service is great, and they're quick! The first order took 4 days (they quoted 5 days), but my last two orders were delivered on the same day they were placed. I live 0.8 miles away and they offer free delivery which is SO NICE (make sure to tip well.) They always call to double check on substitutions when they're out of something, which I appreciate during a time like this where you might be forced to take what you can get elsewhere. I have been shopping at Brooklyn Fare since it opened in Brooklyn. I loved the store, and I particularly loved the staff who worked there. Something has happened--a change in ownership?--and ALL the former staff are now gone; they have installed self-serve (to eliminate all of those employees?); and it's losing its feel as the best neighborhood, Brooklyn-owned grocery. I never minded the price of things, but I sure do resent the ways in which the management obviously treated their employees (it took but 2 months for ALL of them to depart). read more

I work one block away from this supermarket at the Brooklyn Criminal Court Building. Each Sunday and Monday I stop in and pick up my lunch and a few things to take home after my shift. From day one of me entering the store, their security always follows me and mysteriously, frequently show up in my area. As a dark-skinned Black man, I've unfortunately become accustomed to being profiled when I'm a unknown face inside an establishment but, Brooklyn Fare is going way overboard. I just left the store a few minutes ago and this time it was a Black security guard and he profiled me far more serverly than the other guards. I can no longer deal with their atmosphere towards customers of color and I will not shop there until they cut out the racial profiling of their customers. I was looking for xanthan gum for my recipe so I directed myself to one of the guys with the Brooklyn fare shirts to ask for help and they don't understand what you are saying.. They walked me towards the seafood manager (Great guy) which helped me find xanthan and a few other things I needed to finish my shopping. I came in here they have a decent selection, most things were mislabeled or not labeled at all. I bought some prepared food and was starving so I waiting in the line and asked a few associates where the forks are and they all pointed me in different directions. After asking the cashier for a fork she told me tat the forks were behind me in the line. I had to exit the store through the exit door and re enter through the entrance door to get to the forks. As I'm looking for a fork everyone who works there is staring at me then an associate asks me if he can check my bag after suspiciously watching me as I looked around desperately for a fork to eat the food I bought there. They smoke all of their own meats and make their sauces in-house. My go-to sandwiches are the Green Goddess and the Beef Luger. For $9.99 you get them on a fresh hero w/ chips and a canned Pepsi product or water for free. Alao, usually you can get some sugar water Tropicana Twisters or Minute Maid "Juices" at .99 cents or 2 for $3.00 almost every week, which keeps me coming back because well. ...kids. All in all, I shop here at least once a week - if anything, for the $1.39 30 gallon trash bags and the 5 for $4.00 sparkling waters. read more

I was super lucky to score reservations at Brooklyn Fare Chef's Table for my annual 3 Michelin star meal with my fine dining partner Dana F. A review of our meal will follow shortly I arrived a little early and on exiting the Metro, i was right opposite Brooklyn Fare. My heart skipped a bear with excitement. Having read about this place, I coudln't believe I was here Having a little time to kill, I decided to have a look in the wonderful looking shop and gave Dana a quick call to let her know that I had arrived only to discover that she had beaten me there and was already inside! I love Whole Foods but am sometimes a little worried about going too corporate in my leanings. The produce and food here at Brooklyn Fare is of the same quality and provenance If I was local, I'd have walked out with a shopping basket of good food. Some great looking fruit perhaps. Some artisanal olive oils. Some lovely looking food from the deli. Fresh seafood. Drool I think Dana was also tempted but she was flying out to Spain on holiday the next day. I am updating my review to a one star because of the incompetent and frustrating service I just experienced. After spending near $30 for A $10 lunch, a bag of popcorn (the same brands are much cheaper at the supermarket on remsen and court btw) And OVERPRICED macarons, I tried to take a picture of the lunch ingredients i had bought so that I could accurately log what I ate when I get home. The card listing the ingredients were so far back I couldn't make out the words in my pic so I asked if the server could take the card out the case and show it to me so that I could get a closer picture. Imagine my surprise when I was told I was not allowed to take a pic of the ingredients and that I would need to ask a manager for permission. Um, hello? I am entitled to know what is in my food. As I told this silly robot such he went on to say I could write down the ingredients but no pic. Is it me or does that make absolutely no sense. What's the difference between me writing down the ingredients and taking a pic of the ingredients except one way doesn't inconvenience and hassle the paying customer. No worries, I won't be back since the food is overpriced (I'd recommend going to govindas 2 blocks down for very affordable meals (eg $6 lunch) that use better ingredients and doesn't need to be doused in oil/fat to taste decent. I'd also recommend trader joes or the supermarket on remsen and court for a better layout, cheaper prices and competent management that won't make you jump through hoops with inane, stupid policies. read more

Brooklyn Fare has deteriorated in recent years despite the internal physical improvements they have made to the store, with the addition of a new sushi bar when you walk in and a streamlined Deli counter case. My issue is more so with the freshness of the produce - on numerous occasions, I have purchased avocados that are pure black on the inside. I've also experienced the same types of issues with eggs and fish, as some others have commented. Minus two stars for this. On the fish - be sure to ask the employee working behind the counter if it is fresh. If it was not delivered that day then do not buy it to be on the safe side. The prices on some items too are a bit ridiculous. Last summer they had a wall of thermoses priced at over $30 bucks a piece. Sort of ridiculous. The breakfast sandwiches are really great in the mornings as well as the freshness of the muffins. read more

This grocery store is incredible. They have a huge selection of foods at every price point. You can get 2$ eggs, or 7$ eggs. Usually I have to go to a few grocery stores to get everything I need, but I can buy everything here. I especially love the dairy, cheese, and ice cream section. There are so many new yoghurts to try. For 4$ you can buy half a pound of shredded real parmigiano. The Key Food near my apartment only sells half a pound of Bel Gioso shredded parmesan for 6$ (and it's basically plastic). They have some delicious ricotta that costs the same as usual grocery store brands but tastes infinitely better. The ice cream section is extensive and has Jeni's ice cream. The store itself is clean and well organized, the people working there are helpful. They also have some of the best sandwiches I've ever had. They're not that expensive, use high quality ingredients, and have inventive combinations. The Peter Luger one is especially delicious. And its big enough for 2 people. I went here today and bought a ton of food. Enough to last me 4 days or so. So much dairy, produce, eggs. I even bought an 11$ pint of ice cream and some 7$ coffee syrup. I was bracing myself to have an exorbitant bill. And it came to...55$. Not bad to feed me for 4 days. read more
