My mom's hospital use to be nearby and when I went with her, I would stop by here just to see what goodies they have, specially their fresh produces that's displayed beautifully outside. Their produces are always fresh and they are very reasonable prices. I would find myself buy more then I need and it's great because they feel like a one stop shop. One time they were even selling their organic raspberries for $1. Perhaps it was the summer and raspberries were in season, but still, that was a steal. Inside their store, it's always brightly lite and they seem to have everything convenience things that one would need if they needed to pick up something quickly. Staff wise, they are always friendly to me and would say hi when I'm about to check out. For me, I feel this store is a gem to the neighborhood. They provide fresh goods at a reasonable for the convenience for those who live nearby. read more

I stumbled upon this grocery store the other day. I like how it's brand new and everything was nearly stocked. It is a mini luxury grocery store. The reason I'm giving this three stars is because it really lacks choices. Sure it has the staples but you don't have many brands to choose from. I guess it caters to the higher end products which is really not for me. Either way, it's a nice store and if you want to try their meats and freshly made food, it might be worth a shot. read more

The cooking here is exceptional! They serve fresh food items, delicious spices, affordable prices, and welcoming service. They don't shortchange on portions or overcharge. He had a positive demeanor and made our initial Restaurant visit entirely enjoyable. Thank you for the great service, welcoming employees and delicious offerings. read more

Wonderful small grocery with a surprisingly large selection. The main thing they don't have a lot of is meat but they have everything else you would need for most meals. Decent craft beer selection too. The store is never crowded, which is great for peace of mind during the pandemic. And the staff is very friendly. Highly recommend this neighborhood spot. Edit: they have great fresh cut flowers too. Beautiful and super affordable! They can make custom/combined bouquets for free if you ask. read more

I haven't cooked in over 10 months. And honestly, it doesn't make sense for me. Cooking is labor intensive and the results at the end are never predictable. And besides, who wants to eat couscous for 5 days straight? I am not a big eater, but whatever I put in my mouth should be of high quality. And so naturally, this place fits the bill for my foodie tendencies. It is a small grocery store which is stocked with fresh vegetables, dairy case, cheese case, beer case, frozen case. I am always able to find something here that satiates my appetite. Tonight I picked up cottage cheese, some sort of pineapple jam, a box of grape tomatoes, Amy's frozen veggie loaf, some pita chips, and ak mak sesame crackers. They also have a very good selection of cereals, and veggie selections. I only gripe that the prices are a bit steep compared to TJs, but for the convenience, I'll take it. They don't take American Express or $100 bills. $15 minimum for credit card purchase. read more

During the pandemic I came here every week. Way better than Whole Foods. Less people and the produce has always been good. I love all the vegan options. read more

I cannot understand how this place has a 3 star rating.. It's amazing! Fresh, affordable produce, vast selection of beers, cheeses, breads, grains, everything! The staff is incredibly friendly, and I've NEVER had a sub par experience. read more

I like discounts. On the other hand, I hate paying extra. Maybe it's because I'm Korean. Or because I'm from the 'burbs of Seattle, digging around Marshalls or TJ Maxx with the Old Lady. Perhaps because the Old Man is a penny-pincher, I've some of the same tendencies. Maybe my big nose is a beacon for the aliens when they come to deliver us free organic groceries. Well, one way or another, I'm still paying, it seems, extra, for all the "good" stuff. And yes, living in New York, I'm talking about "good" as in "not rotten." Wait, why is it that there seems to be shortage of fresh groceries in Brooklyn? Do I really have to settle with The Assos http://www.yelp.com/biz/associated-supermarket-brooklyn-11#hrid:tM6Z5Oi08IHTP0LCq5yAIQ, C-Town, and f'ing Dimensions http://www.yelp.com/biz/food-dimensions-brooklyn#hrid:4lCMtTsj3vM2NTDe57BexQ? Sure, and they always have to rub it in by calling themselves SUPERmarkets. Yeah, real super, bitch. Sure, one ends up opting for Fresh Direct, but do I really have to wait until they can deliver it to me? Why can't anything live up to its name? Why can't they deliver my food to me directly, as soon as I click "Submit"? Okay, enough complaining. But really, though, it's been nearly four years since I've stopped cooking red-meat at home and eating salad without actually looking at the withered greens. I don't think I've ever seen a fresh green pepper in the entire state of New York - okay, fine, I do have to admit the Wegmans in Ithaca was a pretty damned good grocery store, so, read "state" as in "five boroughs," you cursed stickler. Finally, to the point: Fresh Garden makes it seem okay to pay a bit more extra. I'm not entirely sure how they do it in that tiny-ass space of theirs, but I have to admit, I enjoy shopping there immensely more than the aforementioned misnomered 2nd-hand food vendors. You don't have to wipe off dust from their merchandise. Other shoppers smile at you when your eyes meet - damn it, I deserve to be smiled at! You don't have to dig around for a semi-presentable red pepper. Most importantly, you don't feel dirty. read more

I was shocked to see some of the negative reviews here, I love this place, and I come at least once a week. Head and shoulders the best fruit and vegetable selection in Ft. Greene. Everything is fresh and delicious and they have just about everything. (Belgian Kumatos anyone?) Also , a pretty amazing selection of grocery stuff, wen you consider the size of the store - particularly on the Asian and healthy/organic side of things. Their stock boys must be great at Tetris, they use every inch of space without it seeming cluttered or messy. Lovely flowers, too. read more

It almost pains me to say this, but this is one establishment that the Fort Greene Asian Power Couple (a stout, be-track-suited man and a prim, pompadoured lady who apparently will die if they don't open at least one thoroughly mediocre business a year here) got right. Sure, it has their signature lack of personality and uninspired name, but it's bright, clean and well organized, which actually, for a bodega, may be personality enough. It's also not nearly so overpriced as their other businesses--or at least it seems less obvious about it, since every small grocer gouges a bit. You should still probably buy your snacks and nonperishables at larger stores if you want to save money, but the produce is the best in the neighborhood so I never mind paying a little extra for it. Of course, the main selling point is that it's open 24 hours, which is exactly what the neighborhood needed. Before Fresh Garden, there was nothing open past 10 around here other than bars. So now at least there's someplace to buy some microwaveable shumai or something subsequent to getting totally obliterated. read more

It's a fine addition to the neighborhood with organic fruits, veggies and groceries, as well as regular deli fare. It's got deli prices, which are higher than standard grocery stores, but that's expected. The quality on the produce is often quite good, and the prices for fruits and veggies is about the same as the local green market. I find the staff to be very sweet and helpful. And its 24 hours, which is a big plus for me. read more

I love this place for all of the reasons that everyone else gave including the fact that I am a vegetarian and it's easy to find hard-to-find items here. I only wish that they sold essential oils (e.g. lavender, tea tree, etc.) There was a health food/remedy store maybe about a block away (towards Flatbush) that sold oils that's no longer in business. Just FYI...you have to spend at least $15 to use a credit card. read more

I shop here pretty often at least once a week for fresh fruits veggies and milk, especially when I do not want to walk 3 1/2 blocks to the big Pathmark store. The prices here are a bit higher, but I know it is because of the rents in the neighborhood ($750-$1200 for apartments avg) are going up, I can just imagine the store rent/leases. Fulton has a lot of improvements going on right now. Up and coming. Well, this market has a lot of specialty food of which you can't easily find else where, gourmet foods, cheeses, and fresh made juices and smoothies right in the store. They also have a big frozen organic food section, imported beers and ales, and breads. They offer health apothecary stuff behind the counter, as well as often hard to find brands of of natural and organic cigarettes (healthy, Not). They have a nice variety of fresh cut flowers and are open 24/7. One can find some of their Asian food much cheaper in Chinatown, but this can save you a trip over the Manhattan bridge, of which they have a nice variety. One thing that lack is fresh fish and meat, but you can find that few doors down at the "Green Grape Provisions," of which I also wrote a review. Even with it high prices this market is a nice addition to the neighborhood. The only thing I really do not like beside the prices is the narrow aisles. They try to pack so much into the small space that they are so narrow, only one person can go down an aisle at time. read more

For being a small store, you wouldn't expect this place to have the selection that it does. The produce is abundant and fresh, there a lot of unique beverage options, and the cheese case is huge! Compared to Greene Grape, the prices here are SUBSTANTIALLY less migraine inducing, although there is some gouging with personal items. They used to carry a bottled kava drink that was perfect for after work relaxing, but once I depleted their stock they never reordered :( I still come here at least twice a week, sometimes three. read more

Unexpectedly insane selection of packaged organic foodie foods (Balthazar Bakery, and fresh produce. They carry brands similar to those found in Whole Foods or other "fine retailers" and their prices aren't far off. You should keep your eyes peeled for the sale items advertised on hand written neon signs. You can save a lot of $ on products they are trying to move. My experience with the produce has been very good (I've tried potatoes, onions, herbs and greens). Perfect place to run out for a random special ingredient--say, capers for instance--or to put together a snack plate for out of town guests. This morning, I discovered that the coffee brewed here is surprisingly delicious. read more

I rely on this little place, they are family run and so nice. Very reasonable prices on a lot of things and I love the bread section.

They charge a convenience fee to use a credit card (and also have a credit card minimum of $10). When I realized there was an extra fee and asked to pay cash, they claimed they couldn't reverse the transaction or give me a reimbursement for the fee. Obviously the fee is very small but this is bad business. read more

Definitely keep an eye out! No one likes to get home only to realize an item that's been paid for wasn't packed into the shopping bag. By the cashier. And then go back to retrieve it. And have them say only 'Ok', rather than admit fault and apologize for the inconvenience. read more

Yes, Fresh Garden is pricey BUT it's super convenient and the produce is always really fresh. They also have a nice juice bar. I don't think I would purchase groceries or specialty items here.. There are other, relatively close, and cheaper places for that (Brooklyn Fare, Sahadi's), but It's a good place to stop in and grab some kale, spinach or some fruit.. Definitely the best produce on this strip of Fulton and FAR better than anything I could get in my own neighborhood (Bed Stuy). read more

BE CAREFUL! They overcharge or dont give you what you bought. If you catch them they will look down and dont apologize. This happened to me 3 times at least. Reading other reviews it seems it's common practice. I dont trust them and I stopped going after they added that mandatory 0.40 fee if you used a card. WHO DOES THAT? I know they reverted that but sorry i am gone for life. To the owner. I used to stop here everyday after work. That's 20 to 30 dollars per day that I spent here. Now lets say I spend $20 per day and in a year, lets say I go 300 days not all of them. That's 6000 dollars of revenue that you lost on ONE costumer. Guys, there are others stores nearby. Don't make these thieves rich. read more

The selection here is terrific, by Brooklyn neighborhood grocery standards, but every single time I shop here (which is reasonably often) I'm amazed at how much my bill came to. I'm sure that cost goes to gentrifying rent, the super selection and the labor involved to run a nice shop, but if I stop by and pick up a few things for dinner, I end up spending as much as I would on delivery. I suppose it's more affordable than Union Market at least! read more

This is my go-to spot after a late night at the gym for fresh produce when all other places in my neighborhood are closed. The store is a little tight and some of the prices are a little steep, but for your odds and ends, its ideal. I wouldnt count on it for all of your grocery needs. read more

I am a connoisseur of Fort Greene avocados and this place has incredible organic avocados. The vegetable selection is also really great. Definitely recommended. read more

Slightly more expensive than you want it to be, but not as bad as other Fort Greene gourmet groceries like Elly's. Excellent selection of vegetables, fruits, and fresh herbs for such a tiny place. All sorts of ice creams for you in your time of need. The staff is friendly too! read more

I friggin LOVE this place. Yes, it's a little expensive but their fruit bowls are amazing! They have the most awesome selection of Asian products that I've seen in this neighborhood or anywhere that isn't an actual Asian market. It's a nice specialty store and basic store but not somewhere to buy all your food since you can easily spend $20 on 4 things. Their organic ice cream is yum! read more

A great little bodega/grocery store. Just the right size so you can quickly find what you need and get out of there. Nice location is close to Atlantic Center so you can go to Target and whatever and stop here for groceries on the way home. Stocks a separate fridge of macrobiotic/organic products which is great when I need my Tokyo Soba fix. Prices tend to be a bit high. 5 lb bag of Kokuho Sushi Rice is 8.99 which isn't bad but Lundberg Farm's Organic Sushi Rice is 5.99 for 2 lbs which is way over priced. Nice selection of cheese for not being a cheese monger. And a small but decent selection of produce/staple items. Also nice but very expensive selection of tinned fish. read more

Good selection, if a little pricey like any semi-fancy bodega. My go-to market in the neighborhood for most things non-Goya.

Love this little market! Sooo incredibly happy I found this gem so near our new apartment! It has everything you need and more. The only thing missing from making this store a one stop shop is a meat/fish department; otherwise, the selection is unreal! Very fresh fruits and veggies and a crazy selection on deli meats and cheeses. Also, the flower selection is beautiful. This place should definitely have more than just 3 stars. read more

A recent addition to the Ft. Greene neighborhood, Fresh Garden is an exceptional example of a grocery store/market that strives to keep shelves filled with organic and natural products. The space is small but busy. One can buy organic products ranging from shampoos & homeopathic medicines to organic wheat & flour. A clean, healthy feels emanates from the store's walls. Produce exceeds what you'd find at Pathmark and is far more fresh (duh) and exotic than one would expect from a local deli. The cheese selection is good for the store's size - as is the entire dairy section. Cleaning supplies are non-toxic (Simple Green, etc.) but don't include the impressive (& addictive) Mrs. Myers line. Sometimes I feel like it's a little hindered by its small, tidy collection of vendors (there isn't a butcher, for instance) but shopping at Fresh Garden keeps me conscientious and healthy. Just keep in mind that you're shopping at a specialty store so you won't get a bang for your buck. But - on the up side - the staff is friendly and conversational - they'll even give you reusable grocery bags to help conserve waste. PS - the ice cream section ROCKS. If I had an amply-sized freezer, I would go absolutely crazy with the ice cream pandemonium. Oh. But no home-delivery. read more

I have to say that I like shopping here, everybody work very hard, and they keep things very good organized. This is the best thing that happened in this neighborhood, except things are not all good, The cashiers are very lovely the 2 Spanish girls and the Korean are great, they are very nice they even come up with conversation and they make it a good experience to shop here. The night shift is also good, they follow people too much like they are going to still but I know they are just doing there job but it can be a bit annoying. The manager can be a pain in the a$$ but he is very good with kids, when i bring my daughter here he always give her a snack. The owners are also good people but you can feel the fake in them. Besides the workers, this store is great and it comes in handy... read more

BEWARE THE OVERCHARGE! I consistently witness people getting overcharged and have had it happen to myself 5-6 times there.

True to its name, this place has very fresh produce. They also have many hard to find gourmet items as well. Don't get the wrong idea about this place though. The prices are gray for the neighborhood. The staff is very friendly and always extremely helpful! read more

This is basically a spruced up bodega. (think Sunac at the Lorimer stop) Many of the old fashioned bodegas are "rebranding" in an attempt to accommodate their affluent clientele. Apart from organic milk and a few token "gourmet" offerings these places are more or less unchanged, but with a bit of a cosmetic makeover (i.e. you can still buy electric-blue roses out front). Fresh Garden is unique in that it is open 24/7. However, the staff have all had lobotomies and the prices are SKY HIGH. Like laughably so! And here's the kicker, the icing on the proverbial cake; they have a $15 minimum on credit card purchases. You can walk about 20 paces down the block to Green Grape and they A) know the difference between carrots and squash, B) are pleasant and bright, C) have NO minimum charge and an ATM with the staggeringly low transaction fee of $1. Fresh Garden is for suckers and is to be used only in the most desperate of circumstances. read more

Since they opened they have been overcharging Fort Greene residents any way they can with little concern for their customers wellbeing. One night my dog was sick and the vet said I needed Pepcid-AC. An eight pill pack was over $8 which is about a 400% markup. Another time they sold my neighbor recalled Children's Tylenol that had just been in the news. The neighbor even asked beforehand if the Children's Tylenol was part of the recall. When she got home she went online and sure enough they should have been removed from the shelves. She brought them back for a refund and they showed no interest in doing the right thing. A day later they were still selling the recalled meds. Their prices on milk and ice cream are the highest in the area (go to Ralph's to compare). The other day I bought an overpriced piece of watermelon. There was no "prepared on" or "sell by" date on the printed Fresh Garden price sticker. When I got home and unwrapped the watermelon it was spoiled; slimy, rancid and inedible. It tasted pickled. I was so mad I took the pieces and the undated price sticker back and asked to speak to the manager. Big surprise: "Manager is not here." I explained the situation to the checkout clerk who after a few words back and forth told me to take a new piece of watermelon in exchange. I said: "None of the fresh produce has a "sell by" date, so how do I know this is edible?" "It was just cut and wrapped today" was the response. "Then why doesn't it have a date on the label?!!" Isn't this illegal? They are ripping people off and risking their health with spoiled produce and expired, recalled meds. If I did not live a few blocks away I would have been out $5 for the spoiled watermelon. They also charge a fee to use a credit card, which IS totally illegal. They do whatever they can to scam a few cents off you however they can. Once they charged me sales tax on unprepared foods and then claimed it was a mistake. I will never even step foot in that greedy establishment again if I can help it. read more

I love these guys. They opened when the grocery options in my neighborhood weren't crash-hot, so for that, I will be forever grateful. It's amazing how much stuff they carry - and it's good stuff, too. Great fresh produce, as well as fantastic pantry items, cruelty-free household and personal grooming products, and lots of non-meat and non-dairy products, which I love. It's clean, well-organized, and they're open 24/7. They're not as cheap as Pathmark, obviously, but I am willing to pay a little more for the pleasure of shopping there. I also want them to stay in the neighborhood, even in the face of rising rents - and they can't do that without customers. read more

They are thieves! My husband has been telling me that they don't give back the right change or charge you but forget to give the product. I was not paying attention and finally noticed it. I stopped going until I was desperate and when I told a worker that last time they didn't give me what I paid for he just said "oh yeah that happens sometimes" I couldn't believe my ears! No apology nothing!!! Like it's no big deal. Now I see that they don't respect their costumers. They actually purposely want to screw them. I don't trust them. And since then my husband and I have never gone back. I was already upset that they did put a credit card charge. Which I haven't seen in any other grocery store. I hope they go out of business. They don't deserve our money with those shady practices read more

This is a great addition to the neighborhood. It might be a little pricey, but what worries me more is that I get overcharged like once a week. You have to watch the register and ask for the receipt. read more

good for certain items you need at odd hours/last-minute. staff is always friendly--EXCEPT for the Korean lady who does worse for the image of Koreans than Hollywood movies. to be honest the experience w/ her--i had to stand in front of her and ask her to ring me up while she continued reading a magazine, and she begrudged giving me a paper bag when I asked. (do i need to explain that the bananas and cream that i'm buying for $7 requires ripe bananas, which they didn't have, and which i need to ripen so that i can make banana pudding?) honestly, when did it become that difficult to offer basic customer service? all the other employees are SO hard working & friendly, that this one woman--probably a friend of the Korean owners--does more to ruin that than she's worth. never mind that she wouldn't answer the black scruffy guy his questions. the magazine was on marketing, too bad she wasn't paying any attention to how the hell she was treating the people paying money, right in front of her. no respect, no courtesy...move into a neighborhood & make money off of the people, and act like that?? this honestly leaves such a bad taste in my mouth that i won't be going back if i can help it. read more

I'd like to make a remark to one of the reviews here...... I think it would be hard to say that the owners are fake. Maybe they just don't know you that well. I've known the owners for years and to say that they are "fake," is not something someone can swallow. I don't know about you, but I go for the fresh veggies anyways....
