1 STAR - STRAIGHT-UP SCAM OPERATION If i could give zero i would have. I went to Mr. Lube for ONE thing: a basic oil change. What I got instead was unauthorized work, hidden charges, no receipt, and a damaged vehicle. They secretly added services I never agreed to, including dumping a fuel cleaner into my gas tank WITHOUT my knowledge or consent. Shortly after, my fuel pump failed. My car is now undriveable, I'm dealing with repair costs, and I was forced to miss family obligations over the holidays -- including my special-needs sister's birthday. That damage can't be refunded. Red flags everywhere: * No paper receipt * No emailed receipt * Charges added without explanation or approval * Claimed my brake fluid was "black" but never showed me, then changed it anyway and charged me * Told me in person they'd take $120 off because we're repeat customers -- the bill shows $10 off When I called to question the charges, their response was absolutely insane: "We will refund you even if we did or didn't do it." Read that again. That is NOT how an honest business talks. That is the language of people who don't know what they charged for, don't care, or do this regularly. WARNING!! These people are SCAMMERS!!!!! Do NOT GO to them unless you want to be CHEATED! Last week my mom's car went into Audi dealership for summer tire swap. They noted that her Rear Brakes needed changing and provided us a $ quote. My brother is in the business of auto brakes and is a brakes specialist, however he is currently away oversea. I showed him the pictures from Audi, and he agreed the rear brake pads are done, but noted the rotors are still good for another 30K kilometers of driving, so only the pads need to be changed. Unfortunately Audi does not change brake pads only, so I went to Mr. Lube Spadina for a quote to change the rear pads. Immediately the manager, Shindi, said BOTH Front and Rear brake pads AND rotors are done and needed to be replaced. I knew this to be false and said so, he then saw how little mileage the car had and knew he was caught in a lie, back-peddled and agreed just the pads needed changing. I questioned him about the need to change front pads (as Audi did not recommend that), but since the price he quoted for changing both front and rear pads (no rotors) was still notably less than what we'd have to spend with Audi for changing the Rear pads and rotor, I agreed to changing front and rear pads. With no work done and no parts yet, the manager asked me to pay in full right then and there, I refused. I left a 50% ($1,000) deposit. Even with that, I still had to fight to get a proper written quote with the agreed price on it. Looking back, I should have taken that as a warning to me. Two days later the parts arrived, and I dropped off my mom's car for the agreed pads change. 90 minutes after that, I got a call from manager Shindi, saying that all 4 rotors, front and rear, all needed to be changed immediately or our lives may be in danger! I was stunned!! I asked how much that would cost, and he quoted me $2,400 each rotor, plus labour and some other minor parts and all this is in addition to the original cost of the brake pads work that I agreed to. So we're talking about over $14K they want to charge!! Again, that is $14,000+ they want to charge. Are they crazy?? Now that they have our car and my $1,000 they're doing this??!! Do they think customers are stupid?? Or is it just because I'm a woman and so they think they can jump on the opportunity to cheat me?? When we told manager Shindi that NO, we have a quote from Audi, who told us the front brakes are fine for another year and recommends only the rear brake work, and that the quote from Audi was just under $3,400 (rear parts and labour), manager Shindi again knew he was caught in another lie, so he started changing his numbers; from $2,400 each rotor down to $1,350 per. Wow!! If the rotors should be priced at $1,350, why did he, Mr. Lube Spadina, quoted me $2,400 per to start with??!! Again, do they think women or customers in general are stupid?? Obviously I asked for my money back as Mr Lube Spadina has lost all credibility with me and lost all my trust, but manager Shindi refused to provide a refund, citing they already bought the brake pads and that he spent over an hour speaking with me!! Are you kidding me?? Instead of apologizing for all the lies, drama, aggravations and inconveniences he put me and my family through, he is going to keep my money after all this??!! After making us suffer through more fighting and waiting 3 days for "someone-else" to approve the refund, I finally got my money back today. SHAME on YOU Shindi / Mr. Lube Spadina!! As an owner of a small business myself, I am especially distraught that a business would lie and cheat innocent customers so!! How can you sleep at night when you spend everyday lying and cheating innocent people who places their trust in you?? Customers, specifically women customers who may be less versed in the auto trade, are not stupid. I have two daughters that use Mr. Lube on Spidina at Eglinton Ave West for convenience and based on my recommendation. I recently reviewed my daughters invoice for an oil change on a four cylinder 2L car. I was shocked that Nr. Lube charges were over $180. When I questioned the charges the manager of the business would not discuss their charge with me. I have taken my car in to Mr. Lube on many occasions to get my winter and summer tires changed. Each time they try to sell me something else. The last 2 times they told me I needed new tires. I took my car straight to dealership and they said my tires were fine. I find this totally irresponsible and would like to warn others. Tires should last about 6 years depending on mileage. Brought my car in for an oil change. Five year old car. Magically the oil detector was disconnected (no dipstick on this model) couldn't check oil levels afterwards. Came in today for a tire changeover from winter to summer. The service itself was great, and price was ok. Due to COVID-19, I stayed in the car while they did the service. Which is nice considering it decided to snow today. I'd rather not sit outside in 1 degree weather and wait. So I appreciate that from this shop. I'll probably come back in the winter. I just keep finding myself asking the question: Am I ever going to find an auto shop in this city that will just do the service I came in for? I understand the need to up sell, but it just gets exhausting. I come in for one service, and this opens Pandora's box for a slew of other services: new rims for $250, complete rust protection for $150. Each time I am forced to respond in a curt but respectful manner "no thank you, just the tire change". Again, I understand the need to up sell, but I also would like to be listened to and not have to explain why I don't want to tack another $100+ dollars onto my bill. It just gets old. Mr. Lube.. every time I go for an oil change the experience make me think I should go somewhere else next time, but a few months later I forget how bad it was and find myself back at Mr. Lube simply for its convenience. This is the thing Mr. Lube has going for it, you can show up whenever you like, and rarely have to wait more than a few minutes before service. I like this Mr. Lube for its Spadina and Eglinton location. The staff is fine, but they are easily annoyed and have a hard time hiding how much they dislike customer service. This location generally has a better staff than other locations though IMO. I always leave feeling like I'm not taking good care of my car and confused as to what services are most important to get done, if any, because they always pick something different to be in "urgent" need of servicing. Because of this, I have a rule not to do any services other than an oil change. I love to go home and cost out what a reasonable price for each service would be. Most recently, they offered to change my spark plugs for $139+ It turns out I can do that myself for $25-$40. My worst experience at this location was one of the attendants preparing my invoice with an actively bleeding finger that made me cringe, especially seeing how dirty his hands were. On May 12 I visited Mr Lube Store #221 at 10916 Hurontario Street, Brampton. i asked for a regular oil change, I was told oil was a little low and sludgy therefore they needed to do an engine flush and replace friction shield or they could not do oil change. I agreed as I had no choice if I wanted oil changed. It was very busy and they did not do fluid checks or light check. Changed oil and I was good to go. Driving home I noticed oil light came on only when I braked and it was not on prior to change. I went back next day and they rudely told me seal had a leak and to go to a mechanic. I went to my mechanic and I was told issue was the flush that it should never have been done as it could have ruined my transmission. It is an older car and oil should have been sludgy and slightly dirty. I now have to do another oil change for a thicker oil and pay cost for inspection and another oil change. Mr Lube cost $165. I went back to complain and they were rude and didn't want to hear it! I am female so I feel taken advantage of and sick of their policy to upsell. Please avoid Mr Lube altogether and this location in particular run by Brinder Shergill. This is the second time with an issue of oil leak as cap was not tightened. read more

These guys may do ok work but the way they speak to you and the way they dismiss you can be frustrating. They come across as shady at times and the fact that you have to follow up with them and the fact that they say one thing like " we will call you when we are done" - the reality - you have to call to see if the work on your car is done - you get suspicious explanations to justify increased costs and they don't seem to be fully aware of CAA discount programs which CAA promotes! I think I am better off going to my old tire place - at least they are honest and upfront on costs and don't try to sell my with everything they say. read more

They recommended that I replace my serpentine belt. They did not have the proper tools and spent a lot of time trying to do a job that they were not qualified to do. In the end, they told me that my car was broken and that I should take it to a dealer to get the tensioner replaced. They were using a 11/16 12 point wrench to try and move a 17mm 6 point bolt. I had a previous bad encounter there, when they tried to do a driveclean on another car, and told me to come back. I came back and they were not able to do it as their tailpipe monitor was broken and they claimed that my OBD was defective. Took the car to Canadian tire and they had no problem with the OBD and passed the car. I will not return read more

We took our two vehicles to Mr. Lube; on one they overfilled the tires so the ride was really rough and we had to take it to another shop to get it rebalanced; not good but we figured sometimes people make mistakes and we'd just not take our cars there again. Now it's time to get the winter tires put back on our other vehicle and it turns out Mr.Lube crossthreaded one of the lugnuts when changing the winter tires to summer and we've just discovered we have to pay to torch out the lugnut to get the winter tires back on!! What a disaster; Mr.Lube is terrible!!!! Don't bring your vehicle there unless you want to pay extra for the messes they make due to their incompetence. Very disappointing. read more

I was charged 90.00 to change the engine air filter and cabin air filter on my 2007 Altima. It took about 10 minutes to change both filters and you can buy FRAM filters for about 15.00 each. I feel totally ripped off. Also on their invoice they show that they did some work that was never done such as cleaning the windows and other. I've been going to the Mr. Lube at Victoria Park near Lawrence for about 20 years. Boy is this place slipping. The biggest issue I have is they pitch a 21 inspection on you that is obviously aimed at getting more money out of you. When you tell them you're not interested they immediately treat you different. First time I went for an oil change and there was a crazy rattling sound out of my car at highway speeds right after. This sound wasn't there before. Second time I went was just to get my summer tires put on. They put on three (3) of my summer tires and left a winter tire on. My rims for both sets are extremely similar and although I feel foolish for not noticing, that one winter tire is now destroyed since I have driven on it all summer. criminal. Paid to have the oil changed in my truck 4x4 drivetrain they said they changed two areas for 180.00 plus tax. It took 5 minutes. I said this was impossible and they assured me with all smiles and sincere comments about how it was done. I paid then left. The next day I took the truck to my mechanic and asked him to check this oil because i was suspicious. It was so dirty the oil, the drain plugs were rushed on so could not have been removed etc. The oil was the dirtiest I have ever seen. 61 Overlea in Toronto was the location. I had my summer tires removed and my winter tires (that I had just bought second hand) put onto my rims. Apparently they don't balance tires when they put them on. My car was bouncing, shaking and have had poor gas mileage. So I took it back and told them what was going on and that tire balancing should be done when they are newly installed. I said I don't think my tires were balanced. They guy there claimed the bouncing was because one tire was low on air. After topping up air there is still no difference. I paid $200 for tire swap and they couldn't balance them, rip offs. I will never go back to them. Now I'm going to have to pay more for something that should have been done without saying. read more

I came in to get my tires changed... the attendant had me line up and I waited in my car for over an hour. Not at a single point did he tell me the cost... an hour later, it's my turn. I told them I want my tires changed... $149.99... I thought this was absurd so I called my s/o and he said that it should be around $60. Apparently because the tires that I'm putting on don't have the rims on... it's $150. Then the manager came and told me because my rims are bigger (I have standard sized SUV rims by the way) it should actually be $180. I was annoyed so I said "why didn't you tell me the price before I spent over an hour waiting?" "This is the Mr Lube price." Needless to say, I drove off after wasting an hour of my time. We used the 793 Spadina location in late 2019 to put our winter tires onto our car. My pregnant wife was driving on the highway a few days later when the bolts started flying off one wheel and the wheel started to fall off. When corresponding with Mr Lube and their insurance company, they instructed us to wait until a proper assessment was done to determine the damage to the vehicle. So our car sat in the shop for 1.5 months (I kid you not) while we were forced to rent another car. In the end, they pointed to some fine print on the invoice and denied responsibility, losing out on potential lifetime clients to avoid paying (through their insurance) a measly few hundred dollars in repairs. Our advice to any prospective client of Mr Lube: Spend a bit more and go somewhere else... you will be safer and receive better service as a result. Adieu Mr Lube! read more

I went to this location 2 days ago for an emissions test. They charged me $40.00 and then told me that my vehicle was not ready after my repair from Downtown Porsche and said to make sure to drive another 40 kilometers and come back after 48 hours. They then told me that when I came back they would perform a tail pipe test which will be guaranteed to be ready for the test and should pass. I came back after 48 hours for the tail pipe test. I told the employee when I got there to do the tail pipe test. He said OK. before the test was over he passed me a visa machine to insert my credit card and charged me. He then told me the test again was not ready. I then replied that you told me that the tail pipe test would work. He replied that he did not do the tail pipe test and said to come back again in 48 hours. I would have not brought my car in if I knew he wasn't going to do the tail pipe test. This is their way of making more money off of their customers. I have learned my lesson and will stay away from Mr. Lube! These employees LIE, LIE and LIE again..... read more

This place is great! I have gone here for an oil change and the service was fast and efficient. They also squeezed me in for an emergency tire fix when I got a flat tire. They didn't try to sell me a new tire, they diagnosed the issue and then fixed it, right before my eyes! Lastly they saved me the other day when I was in a rush with two young children and desperately needed antifreeze on a snowy day. They filled up my antifreeze, washed my windows and even checked my tires. Highly recommend this place, all the workers are very nice and understanding. Will keep going back :) read more

Ended up with a bill of $220 for additional services I specifically told the team that I was going to have my mechanic perform the rest. The team then lie to your face stating you agreed to everything when they asked you.
