We're still big fans of Mr. Kabob, which is our go-to place for Middle Eastern food nearby. We always get extra garlic sauce and extra pita. The one thing that I have noticed is they have cut their meat and rice portions down considerably. It's sort of a bummer. Since moving back to Michigan I have been to Mr. Kabob7 times. Seven is most likely an incorrect number but I'm probably in the ball park. I would like to re-tell my second to last visit from two weeks ago if the crowd abides. I was finishing a 12.5 hour day at work around 8:20 PM in Dearborn. By far my longest day of work in the advertising industry. I told my lady friend I would pick us up some Mr. Kabob on the way home from work. I arrived at 8:46, the gas station was still open but the kabob half of the store had closed. Me: (Looking exhausted and in need of good news) "Do you think I could still get a chicken schwarma?" Kabobian: "Well we just closed....Ali baba can you make schwarma for this man?" Ali baba: "Oh...Okay, I make schwarma for this man" Me: "Could you throw in some hummus and falafel as well? Kabobian: "Okay man, you got it." Me: "Thank you so much" So then I waited at a table with a sports illustrated. I love that the place is in a gas station because there are plenty of magazines for me to germ up while I wait for my food. Got the food, got home, got to my basement. This was my first time trying their falafel. Taste it on it's own and it is similar to a cake donut; include a pickle strip on your fork and a dip in the dill ranchy sauce and you're mouth is jizzing. The hummus at Mr. Kabob is silk. The best hummus I've had. It has the smoothness of something whipped up in an emulsifier Billy Mays would've sold and then it finishes with a lilt of lemon flavor. We started with regular size when we first started ordering it, but now a large is required. I distribute far too much hummus per pita bread bite. I feel Adam Sandler must have eaten this and been inspired to make "You Don't Mess with the Zohan". Here's a tip on the Chicken Schwarma; get the garlic sauce on the side. They tend to overdo the sauce and the wrap doesn't even need it. I ate some of my girlfriend's schwarma with the sauce on the side and it made the perfectly slow spit roasted chicken shine that much more. The place gets five stars because of the great prices, the great taste and the heart. They only want to feed people tasty food for prices that don't make them rich but allow them to live. My favorites are: ---Spinach pies---little bites of wonderful triangular goodness for $2.49 ---Crushed lentil soup---who ever thought lentils could taste so good? ---Chicken Shawarma---oh the tasty bites of marinated, melt-in-your mouth chicken with the yummy yogurt/garlic sauce wrapped in a oversized browned-just right pita! This is $3.99 you say? Well, close up shop McDonald's, I've switched to gas station food! ---Fatoush salad? Oh yeah and the large salad is huge!!! $8.99 and it's enough for 4-6 people. Oh the humanity! This salad has these crunchy pita chips and a wonderful dressing that will make a salad lover out of anyone! Oh yeah--make sure to grab a Baklava or 2 for dessert! Ever since the remodel over a year ago things have certainly changed here from the tabbouleh being full of sand and the parsley not being washed properly to the turshi tasting like crap compared to how great it used to be and the lamb that my husband gets in his sandwiches fatty and the chicken is all fatty and grizzly I don't know who left the premises when the place was remodeled but I have to tell you that we have 7 people on our street that used to love your place plus my hairdresser and two other friends we are all sick and tired of bad food three orders at this house and we're done we've tried three orders over 10 months. Freshest, most flavorful food you will ever find in a gas station. Everything I've had here is amazing: the soup, the grilled veggies, the rice and of course the "Mr. Kabob Platter". Soup lentil soup - needed a little salt and pepper, but was very good and quite filling. The veggies were also good and a reasonable lo-carb alternative to rice or bread. I didn't the the grilled carrots were too good and I could have used more green pepper and I would have liked more picked turnips (pink stuff). I only tried a little rice but it was delish. Holy shit, their hummus is amazing! Sorry, had to get that off my chest. But it really is the best hummus out there. Beyond creamy....I always intend to get a small or medium, but its like my stomach swallows my brain and makes it tell the man, "one large hummus, please." ....and their sandwiches are extraordinary. I mean, who'd have thought a little garlic, olive oil, and a grill could produce such outrageously good food? My brother-in-law lives near DC, and he takes five or six chicken sandwiches home with him every time he comes. He actually bought a mini-cooler just for these trips. This place has good to very good food, however, in 3 visits here, our order was wrong all 3 times. We kept going back because the food was good, but after receiving the wrong order the first time, we called and were told we can come exchange the incorrect food for the right order, however the drive was worse than the wrong food. The next time, I checked the food in the restaurant, and had to wait while the order was corrected. The third time, I complained, and was told "we fixed it, what else do you want us to do? Just enjoy the food." I would enjoy the food more if it was actually what I wanted, and not just what they wanted to give me. Long story short, the food is pretty good, but not worth the headache and stress of never knowing exactly what you are actually going to be eating. The unapologetic attitude that is thrown at you only serves to aggravate the situation, and is greatly unappreciated. read more

I have a reputation with my coworkers of being a serious food snob when it comes to places to eat out at while we are on the road. And considering that we travel on average 2 weeks a month - we eat out a lot. So they find it highly amusing that my favorite place to grab food to go, when I'm home, is a gas station. But, I crave their chicken shwarma entree (with rice and either the lentil soup or salad depending on my mood) always. Sometimes I'll get the hummus or tabouli too. It's quick - order your food, go pay at the cash register and then usually your food is just about ready. Or call ahead. Either way, you will have hot delicious food quicker than making something at home. Might as well get your gas and lotto tickets while you're there too. read more

The location is certainly convenient, if a bit unexpected. My family will often get takeout from here when we have impromptu gatherings. Our order is often large and somewhat complicated, but they always get it right. I think we have had literally every item on the menu. My personal favorites include: the garlic dip, the crushed lentil soup, the falafel sandwich, the baklava, and (again) the garlic dip. Food is sometimes inconsistent but still very good. But they seem to be slipping in their service. The last two times I've ordered from there I've gotten home only to find out it was not what we ordered. I don't know maybe they're too busy now or something but it's going to make me want to stop going. when I came back to get my chicken comfort sandwich that they didn't make for me I had to wait 25 minutes for them to cook the chicken. I discovered this place through yelp after seeing all of the high ratings. I couldn't believe that it was for a place in a gas station. After trying it, I was instantly hooked! I find myself craving the beef shawarma with rice and Tabbouli. The Lentil Soup is also quite good. I also liked the chicken shawarma and beef kafta. The only problem is the parking lot isn't very big. At lunch and dinner there can be a decent size line, but I feel that service is still pretty fast considering. We spend a lot of time in this area during fall baseball season, so I have been on the lookout for better food choices nearby. I have stopped in a couple times (so far) to pick up fattoush and chicken shawarma, and it is so, so good. I even tricked my picky 13-year-old into eating some. He asked "where did you get that?" I told him, "a gas station. Want some?" Now, if I hadn't wanted to share, I would have told him "a Mediterranean restaurant, want some?" He would have turned me down, but gas station food? After begging and pleading with my husband, I finally persuaded him to grab a gas station dinner with me. I had been reading so many reviews about Mr. Kabob, and knew that there was no way it could possibly be like the gas station grub I'd come to know and hate. I was so excited to hear that one of the best Lebanese restaurants in the area was just around the corner from me! Even though I had basically already eaten lunch, I had to stop out here to evaluate the food for myself. I would never expect to find such great food porn in a gas station - but it's true! I ordered the hummus, fattoosh salad and torshi to go. Price is very fair and the serving sizes are appropriate and what is to be expected. My only disappointment with this place is the pita bread. The bread is packaged and kept warm until they throw it in your to-go bag. It doesn't look like they make it fresh which is a little sad. The fatoosh salad and torshi is amazing. I'm not sure why I wasn't crazy about the hummus, but I've definitely had better. Can't wait to go back and try the wraps! read more
