Gotta love the fact that one of my favorite and most frequently ordered middle eastern comes from a gas station! We regularly order the family tray for our get togethers. I am sad to report that I was so disappointed with the food last night. I used to LOVE this place. I have learned they are under new ownership recently, and sadly the quality has taken a nose dive. I really hope they improve, because this place is so convenient. I got the beef kafta and chicken shawarma roll up sandwiches (my favorites from so many times in the past). The kafta was dry with virtually no sauce on it. Similar circumstances applied to the shawarma. In the case of the shawarma, clearly nobody cut the fat or gristle out of the chicken breast before cooking which made the sandwich disgusting. I had to throw it out. Also, both sandwiches were so bland in terms of flavor. For whatever reason, none of the food "popped" with the flavor it used to. I hope the new owners get it together, but last night was ... well, terrible. read more

I moved to Royal Oak just over a year ago, from the West Side. Since I moved here, I've been hunting for a good middle eastern restaurant. I found this place on Yelp and noticed the great review score so I decided to give it a try. I didn't actually read any of the reviews though, so I was surprised to find it located in a gas station. I went in anyway and ordered the Chicken Kabob Wrap. It was as fresh and delicious as I could have hoped for. I will definitely go back for more. I just wish they offered the Ghallaba in a wrap and not just as an entree. Not many places do, unfortunately. read more

Chicken schwarma and beef kafta are always good and made fresh to order. Love the lentil soup, good flavor and seasoned nicely. Salads are always super fresh and crisp. Really good olive oil and lemon dressing. Sometimes I mix it with their hummus, which is also excellent... Including the babaganoush. A dinner portion is a feast or guaranteed lunch next day. I usually frequent mr kabob... but lately I go to a few different Mediterranean spots closer to home. I ordered a mixed Kafta plate (ground meat kabob) chicken and beef. ABSOLUTELY terrible dry as a desert but luckily it also had no flavor so I had to dip the meat in my garlic sauce for hopes of being able to finish it didn't work... my wife got the chicken kabob they tasted as though they were sitting out for a long time very dry and rubbery with a sour flavor. Not to mention we only ordered the kafta dinner and the chicken kabob dinner our total was 42.00 dollars food was terrible very unhappy and won't be back this is an establishment I've been to since I was about 14 Not sure what happened but quality is lower then ever read more

Whenever I'm in the Berkley area I try to stop here for lunch. It is not a "fancy" restaurant but the food is excellent and that's really what it's about for me. You can sit at the window and enjoy some great Mediterranean food as the cars go by on Coolidge. They have a wide variety of food and options on the menu and the prices are very reasonable. They do a pretty good carry-out business as well. It's in a gas station so don't be surprised. I've never bought gas with my food, but I've never had gas FROM the food either. I always get the chicken kabob lunch--comes with 4-5 chunks of grilled marinated chicken, large portion of rice, vegetables (their pickles are amazing), cup of soup (I love the chicken and vegetable soup), pita bread, and the white garlic sauce. I had high hopes after reading all the reviews, as this is my absolute favorite kind of food. Oh how disappointed I was!! First of all they were out of meat filled grape leaves???? Maybe the rolling machine was in the shop for service...it happens. The guy who took my order was pretty rude...it was like I was bothering him. They got my order wrong...I ordered a falafel pita with tabbouleh & hummus, but got falafel with a ton of onions and "the works" not a fan. The beef kabob pita wrap my husband got was so so...he's had better. We shared a small mujadara that was very dry and under seasoned. So...after a pretty disappointing lunch @ noon, by about 2:00 we started to get somewhat queasy. To make a long story short...it's 3:09 a.m. & we have not eaten another thing today, but we are feeling better and I'm pretty sure tomorrow we'll be as good as new!! My take away from this experience is don't be afraid to try something new, just make sure to have plenty of Vernors on hand!!! Not sure I'll be back....... read more

You cannot go wrong with anything you order from their menu and it is exciting to watch them make your food despite it being in a gas station location. Was told by a few people that this was the best Mediterranean food, while it was decent, I wouldn't say great. I ordered the chicken shawarma with fries. The chicken could've used more seasoning, but it was cooked perfectly. I didn't expect everything to be tossed in the same to go box. Fries were on the bottom, then chicken, onions and a pita on top. So you have to make your own shawarma which is fine it just would've been easier to do so if it was a bit separated somehow. For being gas station food it was ok. read more

This place is a disappointment! I ordered a carryout combo for 2 plus extras and paid nearly $35 for a hungry family. What I got was RAW meat and very bad customer service. I discovered that my food was not cooked when I finally sat down to eat after a busy day. I immediately called Mr. Kabob to inform them that my meat was not cooked. The guy on the phone actually tried to justify that the raw meat was probably a seasoning that gives it a pink color (sumac). I explained that this was not the case because I know what raw undercooked meat looks like. The man told me to wait and kept putting me on hold for whatever reason. When he came back on the phone he told me to come back on Monday to pick up my food. Umm, excuse me!!!! It was Saturday and I'm hungry NOW for the food I paid for! What in the world would make him think that I would wait until Monday? After expressing my disappointment the man on the phone said that I could pick up cooked meat. At this time, I was hungry, frustrated, disappointed and ANGRY! My dinner was ruined and now I had to drive out in the cold to pick up my food a second time. You'd think they'd include a little extra for ruining my f***n' dinner, but no, that would require good customer service. The only reason I'm short of one star is that my last carryout order came incomplete, so I ended up paying more than I should have. They don't have jajeek anymore, it's out of the menu. This place is incredible! Don't be frightened that your food is being made in a gas station. Best crushed lentil soup in Michigan, hands down. You can skip Dearborn and just come to Berkley! Everything on the menu is amazing! The salads (fatoush, tabouli, rice almond... All excellent). Though their prices have gone up with their popularity, some menu items are still a good deal (i.e. Sam's Salad and mixed shawarma grill).
