The outside looked nice. They have a patio for customers to eat outside. I was confused when I walked in, because I didn't know if I was suppose to wait for someone to seat us, but then I saw a sign that said "please seat yourself". (usually, you're greeted when you walk in) I sat down with my boyfriend, and waited for someone to walk over to hand us menus or something. (We were so confused) A moment later, a waiter came by and greeted us, and told us "sorry for the wait". He handed us menus and asked us what to drink. It didn't take long for him to come back with our drinks. I also noticed that they have vegetarian options on the menu, which is a good option. For our appetizer we tried the crab rangoon and calamari. The calamari was really oily, so I didn't eat much of it, and the crab rangoon just tasted like cream cheese in a wonton with little/no crab. Both of our appetizers came with a sweet and sour dipping sauce. I ordered a pad see ew with chicken and vegetables. The carrots were cut too big (not a fan of carrots anyways), and the noodles were chewy, like they weren't cooked long enough. I didn't like how the chinese cabbage (bok choy) only had the stem part but not the leaf part (just my preference). Overall three stars, because slow service (my boyfriend said all the workers were in the back socializing, maybe that's why the waiter took a while). Normally one of my favorite places. In fact it's a comfort food place for me and one of my best friends. But this time I brought my grandparents after a near by doctor visit. My food came out with only some of it being warm. The top layer of food was cold, and the sauce had already started congealing on the bottom of the plate. I'm so amazingly disappointed. Last time was bad, but everyone has an off day so we brushed it off. This time, though... We called our order in for pickup. 15-20 minutes we were told. No worries, we live 10 minutes away. We watch a 2 minute youtube video, gear up for the weather and have a casual drive over, right on time. As we pull up, I see a bowl of soup and a Styrofoam container sitting on a rack next to the window. I think "ah, our soup and potstickers." Surely our food must be nearly ready. We paid and waited. I noted the time. 15 minutes passed. As the guy bagged our food, he grabbed the soup and Styrofoam container that had been sitting there. As the man handed the bag to me I asked him for a moment of his time. He shut the window. Maybe he didn't hear me; I can't assume malice. The potstickers were cold. The miso was so salty and concentrated that we boiled some water in a 50:50 mix and then it was fine. The entrees were as good as we'd expected. If they had been slammed, I could brush it off, but this was a repeat bad performance and it's really demoralizing sitting hungry as your food cools 4 feet away. read more

This was one of the worst Asian food restaurant I've been to. Worst than Chinese buffets even. I don't mean to be harsh, but all 4 of our entree dishes were unimpressive or inedible. The wait service was very nice though. It was busy even though the food is terrible. Mainly Caucasian customers. My table had 1 Vietnamese, 2 Taiwanese, 1 Caucasian. We were all disappointed and sad we came here. The establishment looked DIRTY!!!! When I pulled out a chair to sit down, there were all these nasty brown stains on it. It made me very queasy and uncomfortable sitting down. Most of the time sitting, I kept thinking of how dirty my jeans were going to be and how gross I felt. Ordered sesame chicken. This in no way resembled the sweet taste of sesame chx. And I never knew this dish could even be screwed up so terribly. It was very soy saucy salty tasting. I asked for no veggies. They said they could not do that because the breading or chicken was premixed with the veggies???? Wth....! When the dish came out, it was not clumped together where it could have been "no veggies." Basically I think they just want to charge you for half a plate of fried vegetables, less meat. My husband had pad see eww. Very Ewww if I may say so. That is my #1 go to dish. But when I read the description, I already knew it wasn't authentic and would taste terrible. So he ordered it. And guess what... I was correct! In fact our entire table just looked at the dish and said... What is that??! That's not pad see eww.... It looked like dried up linguini noodle (not even the regular authentic flat noodles) that were slightly brown from straight up soy sauce. It did not have that sweet light soy sauce taste. And the noodles were so dried and hard it was beyond al dente. Like old noodles left out of water and not sealed up to contain it's moisture. Needless to say, we ate less than 1/4 of our dishes. Rice soup was less than okay. You think a restaurant could not screw up rice soup. But they did. It was suppose to be a safe dish. It turned out to be a blegh dish. The only thing I could enjoy was the crab Rangoon. It had a good dipping sauce. And thank goodness they didn't mess up the simple crab and cream cheese as the filling. This was my first time here. Came in before the dinner rush and there were plenty of table choices. Per the "Please Seat Yourself" sign. The atmosphere is laid back and has comfortable seats. The server (Conner) was patient and answered all of my questions. He checked on us regularly and kept our beverage glasses full. The sushi was good, they cut my sushi thin per my request, and it still looked good as well as held together. The only complaint was that I ordered spicy and it was not spicy to me, but of course I like spicy. Connor did offer to bring me some spicy mayo but I asked for the spicy sesame oil instead, which was a yummy addition. I only gave them a 4 star because of the appearance of inside the Resturant and ladies bathroom. The tables are uneven, which match the floors and the antique dresser in the ladies room looks like it can tip over anytime. The sign out front stated "Fine Asian Dining" but the inside looks like a surf hut. If you do not mind "relaxed" Asian dining, the food and the presentation of the food is really good. Overall they get a 3. The food had a good flavor, but I got noodles and they felt like the kind from out of a box and not cooked all the way. The appetizer came when the food did and my soup was forgotten and came at the end. The service on a Sunday at 2:30 was incredibly slow. They had open tables so they were not hustle and bustle busy. Our food came out about 30 minutes after ordering. Again overall it was fine/good, but not worth coming again. I've been living in Denton for about 7 months now and Mr. Chopsticks is right down the street from me and I'm a sucker for Chinese food so I tried them out- Their chicken egg rolls are the best thing I've ever had, and they're so addictive. I also love their orange chicken and sesame chicken dishes. I also enjoy their salmon roll. A few things I'm not a fan of, is ordering it to go. For whatever reason it just doesn't taste the same to me when I order to go. If I order it to go I'll usually just get their egg rolls and salmon roll, but not any of their main dishes. There's been a few times when I've dined in and my food was already semi cold. I don't think that's the fault of the chef, I blame it on the waitstaff. My issue with that is that the times I've eaten in the restaurant, the waitstaff are not attentive, they don't get the order right 100% of the time, and they all sit at a table in the back and spend most of that time on their phones when I'm sitting there with a empty drink glass, and not get checked on for 15-20 minutes at a time. read more

Food has always been fresh here, and the sushi is delicious (particularly for the price). For you vegans and vegetarians, this is a fantastic spot to try as they are very conscious of dietary needs. If you're a tea drinker, they've got some great loose-leaf options for your post-dinner conversation. My favorite is the oolong! Portions are plentiful, they've got the classic Americanized Chinese plates, as well as quite a few curries and Thai-based dishes. Mr. Chopsticks is what I would consider a classic Denton restaurant: it's delicious, but as a hippie/college town eatery, it suffers slightly from spotty service. I've had perfectly fantastic servers here who I adore, and some who...were a little off the game. Atmosphere is certainly not elegant, but it's great for a casual date night before you head to the movies, to the Denton Square, or maybe to Beth Marie's for some ice cream. I took my boyfriend here on Wednesday night, 4-25-2018 and we were served by Emily. We sat at a table where I has a limited view of the kitchen and this was eye opening to say the least. I saw Emily reach into food containers with HER BARE HANDS several times to get for to put on plates and bowls. Another employee was standing next to her and nothing was said to Emily when she did this so I suspect this is a common practice here or both of those employees do this regularly. I wonder if she has a current food handler certificate. I was disgusted. That being said, the food was great. This is my all time favorite Chinese eatery. I've been eating here since 1990. Same owner, different location. If you're used to it being on Oak down the street from the UNT Language Building, don't dispair! They're just a couple of blocks away off Jagoe, now. When I first transferred to UNT, I pulled out the phone book (back when everyone used those things!) and each evening for my first month or so there, I ended up getting something to go at every Chinese eatery in Denton. I fell in love with Mr. Chopsticks. The food is great and the offerings continue to increase. They now have beer and made to order sushi. They make the wasabi on site - and it is POWERFUL. The first time I put some in my mouth, tears fell out of my eyes and all my blackheads fell out. I'm telling you - it's strong... so dilute it a bit with soy sauce or you may be shocked into another dimension for a few moments. The place is staffed with mostly college students who do a really good job, but you seat yourself and if you're by yourself, you might go unnoticed for a very long time. If you don't get anyone to make eye contact with you, you might have to grab someone and let them know that no one is helping you. Once you get a waiter or waitress, though - they do a fine job. There are only a few spots with padded booths. Lots of seating and tables are not fixed - so you can group them together easily if you have a large party with you. There is also dining available outside. On my most recent visit, the waitress talked me into trying the new Taro Custard. I don't even like dessert as a rule... I'm not into things that are overly sweet... but that Taro Custard is the bomb-diggety! LOVE LOVE LOVE it! When she said 'custard' - I was picturing something more like pudding. Instead, it's more like a sponge cage - but OMG! I almost licked the plate. I will be getting that every time I visit from now on. It looks like a boring brown square - but it is delicious! Try it! With Chinese fare, I tend to prefer vegetarian dishes, and of those my favorite have been Veggie Delight and Sesame Vegetable with Fried Tofu. I also get their large meal-sized soups... very good stuff and like everything at Chopsticks, you can customize it. If you don't ask them to remove the tails, your shrimp will have tails - which is weird in a soup. I've been told some people eat the tails - which to me would be like eating a plastic fork, followed by eating all of your toenails - but OK... people like to eat shrimp tails. If you don't and don't want to scald your hands trying to yank the tails off of piping hot shrimp from your soup - ask for it sans tails. I always ask for extra mushrooms and always get them - and at no extra charge. The hot green tea is served with a kettle so you can serve yourself several servings. I've been to this place a couple of times now and every time has been really enjoyable! The atmosphere is really chill and cozy and I love that it's a seat yourself place. This last time me and my friend went the waiter came quickly to our table and was super nice! Also the teriyaki chicken bowl was really good and was served relatively quickly! I've also had sushi here before and it was awesome! I definitely recommend coming here if you like Asian food and are in Denton! read more

My friends who have been here on multiple occasions say it is usually better so maybe it was just an off night, but I think the most hospitable thing I got was when a guy from the kitchen said bye to us as we left. Our bill was around 25-30% higher than our previous visit in March 2022. I believe because the menu is so vast, the food is all kind of average at best. However being close to a college campus, it has a good price point and if you come with lots of friends, everyone is bound to find something they want. What I don't like there is no WiFi. Our experience was horrible. We came on a lunch break from a school bus re-certification class. We had a 30 minute SHARP time line. When we ordered the woman that took our order told us it would be ready in 3 minutes. 10 minutes later I asked if our order was ready. She said they that they got busy. NOT my problem... I can't give it a five star because I don't eat enough Asian food to compare, however I can't say anything negative about this awesome little spot. Even when it's busy it's never feeling too crowded and our waiter was amaze-balls. His name is James. I asked about favorites and what was good he was patient, attentive and super helpful. We ordered appetizers, a drink and 3 entrees and our bill was still under $50. The combination rice was light and the taste was amazing. The egg foo yong was a large portion and the Mongolian chicken was delish. Crab Rangoon was very yummy and not to overpriced. The restaurant itself was clean and neat but also comfortable and unique. Well we went here for my boyfriends birthday, and were very disappointed.(Not to mention we informed them going into the restaurant that it was his birthday) Everyone else ordered fried rice and stuff and received their food in a timely fashion. My boyfriend and I sat there and waited for his poke bowl and my calepeno roll to come and about 45 minutes later the waiter arrived with our food. At around the 30 minute mark the waiter had uttered an apology about some sort of mix up. I've gotten take out from this place twice now this year and both times it has left much to be desired. Their fried rice is flavorless and we found a hair in it this last time. The tempura veggies weren't cooked long enough so the batter was doughy and too thick. I tried the Lo Mein and it honestly just tastes like a TV dinner. I had to add so much more flavor to it.
