I used to recommend this company to everyone based upon the techs who have shown up in the past, as they were friendly and very courteous. Naturally, I called and asked for someone to come out to look at my chimney flashing. The owner, Scott, came out to look. Needless to say, I will no longer be recommending this company. Scott was RUDE and argumentative today. I mentioned that the flashing didn't look right, when I meant the tar or rubberized coating, or whatever was originally used by the original installers. I used the wrong vernacular, and he sternly corrected me. I wasn't saying anything negative about him or his company, but actually paid him several compliments on his other employees. Scott came down from my roof and then asked me about a permit when it was installed. I informed him that as far as I know it was pulled, as Country Homes Power told me that they did. Scott then decided to lecture me on how I would know. (I found the permit and receipt of permit with my city). It was an authoritative tone. I've spent enough time in the military to understand when I'm being "dressed down." Then I asked Scott about the repair, and he said he'd get back to me but they were busy. So I clarified by asking him if he was busy the rest of the year, or just now. He then said that his company would not be able to do anything for me this year. He NEVER told me WHY my flashing needs to be replaced. His crew had inspected everything just a few months ago this summer and said everything was just fine. I called Mr. Chimney to get his name and was informed that he was the owner. The girl on the phone got defensive and said "I'M SORRY THAT YOU FEEL THAT WAY" in a snotty tone. I was calm and cool as a cucumber on the phone with her, as you get more bees with honey than you do with vinegar. But that was the end of that conversation. It's awful to say, as I really used to like this company, but I asked them to disregard and I won't ever be utilizing them again. And if the young office girl is reading this, try learning some customer service skills please. You NEVER tell a paying customer "I'm sorry you feel that way." I would have respected you more if you would have just said "Piss Off" and hung up. Customer service can and will make or break a company. Mr. Chimney clearly has some issues to sort out, as the owner doesn't know how to properly communicate with people. My advice to the owner, stay away from customers if you are going to behave in your current state, and let your employees deal with the company, as the ones who came out here before were very professional. Perhaps sir, you could take some cues from them...... *******ADDITIONAL NOTE******* CUSTOMER BEWARE: If you leave a negative review or call to complain, the owner Scott may threaten you with filing a false complaint regarding any animals that you may have. My dog is a Certified Service Animal with her own ID card that the TSA recognizes. She's actually a Disabled Veterans Service Dog and makes Lassie look more like Cujo, as she's the sweetest thing. I informed Scott (the owner of Mr. Chimney) that she was a Service Dog and that she was very friendly. She sniffed him with her tail wagging and like he was a long lost buddy. Hey, she's in her own home, not at work, right? I then I shoo'd her off so Scott and I could speak about my stove chimney. After I called the office to voice a complaint, I get this voice mail (see attached) that Scott is wanting to talk to me over the phone "man to man." Well, you can read it for yourself. This guy must have a couple screws loose upstairs, or perhaps he had a previous bad experience with animals? Scott made this personal by threatening to file a fictitious dangerous animal complaint against me. My dog never threatened him in any way. And this didn't come up until AFTER I called the office and stated that I'd be leaving a negative review. UPDATE: After Josh and Ryan rebuilt the firebox and did all the things, I got busy making fires. Then there were a string of texts (that Josh answered even though they were sent not during working hours) about how to make sure the flue was open. Then the house filled up with smoke. I told him it was possibly user error. Nonetheless, Monday Josh and Ryan showed up again to add some insulation to the crawl space. Also, we had a little discussion about making fires. I had my first ever chimney inspection, and the process and outcome was great. Scheduling was easy, and the guy arrived on time. He was very nice - explained the process, showed me how to work at everything, gave me tips on lighting the fireplace initially, etc. He could have up-sold a cleaning which I asked about, but was honest that it was already very clean and not necessary. A Mr Chimney tech said our gas fireplace was basically unfixable due to broken and obsolete/unobtainable parts. His recommendation was to replace the whole unit for approx 7 grand. We said we could not afford that and to just fix the broken parts if possible. After an appt no-show and numerous unreturned calls we opted to have another company come out for a second opinion. The other company's tech tore our fireplace apart looking for the previously mentioned broken parts and found absolutely nothing wrong with our unit and even said all parts to our unit are common and available if they truly needed replacing. He cleaned and tested every part of our fireplace and found it all to be sound. All he had to do was adjust the igniter. I BELIEVE MR CHIMNEY FALSIFIED THE CONDITION OF OUR FIREPLACE IN HOPES OF SELLING US A NEW ONE. read more

He sold us a very expensive gas insert for our fireplace. He never mentioned we needed an electrician to make it work. The day he visited our house we had a desk we were getting rid of. He said he wanted it and we said ok. We paid him CASH and he agreed to 'reduce the cost if we gave him the desk'. His installers came a week later and Installed. They never mentioned it needed power. Fast forward 2 weeks, the fireplace unit starts beeping alarms because there is a backup battery and it's dead. He then said oh ok we forgot and we will get an electrician. We didn't hear from him for 2 weeks and the desk is gone. We offered to pay him an ADDITIONAL $500 for the Ikea desk he was so passionate about. Now he refuses the $500 and refuses to get the electrician. He's combative, argumentative and is horribly unprofessional. Stay away. read more

They did not call or show up for our appointment window. We were told they would show up between 2:30 and 5:30 and made sure we were home. We tried to call them before their business was closed but their was no answer (well before 6PM their listed hours.) No way to leave a message either. My experience with Scott at Mr. Chimney is a reminder to be a diligent consumer. Scott was initially so nice and easy to get along with. He promised a turn experience in converting a wood burning fireplace to gas. "We will take care of everything." he said, and we took him at his word without asking enough questions. We were in the midst of turning the home over as a rental and had many other service providers doing work with us - Scott is the only one that took advantage of our trust. He sold us a gas insert that requires an electrical connection to operate. We were not aware of this until the installer was completely done after three days of working at our home and said that we could "I guess" use the battery backup to light the pilot light, which does not stay light. The battery back up only works half a dozen times and then requires new batteries, sounding an alarm to indicate failure - not a long term solution. Scott told us he would solve this but then came back and threatened me over the phone about a desk we had said he could have. We liquidated all the furniture in the house and we had said if you want it it's yours, but I didn't hear back from Scott to pick up the piece of furniture in a span of three weeks, let alone from a customer service perspective to follow up on the installation which was a $5,500 job. He only brought it back up after multiple phone calls where he verbally committed to paying for the electrician to make the gas insert he sold us operational. He was so aggressive with me on the the last call I was very shook up. It was like he thought about it and decided to create a conflict and sever ties so he would not have to do the right thing and pay for the electrician. I know these guys are a small business so a mistake like this can cost them a lot of money - but it is 100% on Scott. Had we known there was an electrical requirement we would have received a quote and likely scrapped the project due to costs. I would like to give Scott the benefit of the doubt that he missed it, verses it being conveniently left out to make the sale. Either way we are left with a $2,200 electrical project to add a circuit and finish the job. I had a good experience with Mr Chimney. I needed to get my fireplaces checked out (as we hadn't had them looked at in our new home). Turns out it was really glad we got a professional opinion on their health and we know now what is the best plan of action for adding a gas fireplace, using them in case of emergency, etc....I don't generally use my fireplaces at all but in Spokane, due to our majestic pine trees and our winters, every 20 years or so they collide and power lines are the collateral damage. This causes you to be freezing in your home, or have to find a nice friend to stay with (Windpocalypse 2015, Ice Storm '96). Since we don't normally use the fireplaces I thought it would be smart to get them inspected before we used them---especially in case there was some issue that could cause damage to our home. (Friends of ours had a fire in their home during Windpocalypse due to their fireplace being in disrepair and I thought--- better safe than sorry!) Mr. Chimney did a cleaning of the fireplaces along with the inspection and while I was glad to have them cleaned it seemed more like cleaning just mean "vacuuming" which I could have done myself. Granted it is super messy and it was nice to not have to deal with it, but I thought there would be a bit more scrubbing involved. Oh well, I probably didn't understand what I was requesting as I've never hired anyone to work on my fireplaces before! Mr. Chimney took the time to write out a lengthy and detailed recommendation for our fireplaces and also educated me on our options for using the fireplaces. If I could give zero stars, I would. I had an appointment for a chimney inspection and sweep and I was no-showed by Mr. Chimney. I inconveniently made sure I was home all day for this appointment. I was given a window of 2:30-5:30. I tried calling at 5:37, multiple times. There was no answer and no way to leave a message (it would just stop ringing-then nothing) even though their office hours are listed until 6:00pm. I will be taking my business elsewhere and telling everyone I know to do the same, unless they can properly remedy this situation for me. They came out to service and repair my fireplace, cleaned it and told me it needed a new pilot assembly which they didn't have. They called another company for the part and were waiting to get the part in. They told me it would be an additional $300 plus for the part and the repair (after charging $199 to clean). That was in February. I texted 4 times and never heard back. They had initially corresponded via text. I finally called today (2 months later). They have no record of me or of the commitment to order and repair the fireplace, even though I have the receipt with the name of the contact person and what needs done. Can't believe no one has reviewed these guys. Unfortunately for me while having some roof work done, my roofers noticed that some of the bricks at the top of my chimney were loose. I called and Scott came out for an estimate that week after working hours which was very helpful for me. We had some other concerns about our old flue and gas log set. Scott was very professional and took time to explain the project and costs. Moreover, he thought about the level of work that would need to be done as repair or rebuild/repair. Aka how long would be be in the house etc. He also installed a new flue and when we weren't happy with the location of the handle he was out the next week to fix it and now looks awesome. I thought just by sight that Mr. Chimney was a "chain" business. Then, when my neighbor engaged them last fall, she told me that she was very pleased with their work. So, Scott came out in Oct 2016. He informed that the fireplace flue was too small for the chimney and revised the air flow and damper to keep smoke from entering the house. He said that he would have to wait until spring 2017, as the weather was too inclement to fix the outside chimney structure. (the bricks on the upper third of my chimney were ready to fall off). Then on April 2, 2017, he called me to ask if it was okay to start repairs April 3rd. The two masons who worked on the chimney structure were craftsmen for sure.
