After my favorite Chinese food restaurant burned to the ground, (RIP Cheng Du), my girlfriend and I decided to try some takeout from Mr. Chef's. We've been coming back ever since. Very fresh ingredients, lots of flavor, and good prices. I've tried many things on their menu at this point and have yet to be disappointed. If you're looking for Chinese food in the Stoughton area, skip by Chinatown (sorry Chinatown, quality seems to have gone way done in recent years) and try this place out. Not your average run of the mill Chinese. Quiet frankly, I got tired of crapy Chinese places with fake crab, MSG intoxication, dirty bathrooms and greedy waiter. Mr Chef's is a second generation Chinese restaurant. Sort of Chinese 2.0 if you will. It's owned by a young fellow who seems very Americanized and very customer service oriented. The palce is new and clean. Elegant and modern decor with some very nice touches. (Not the typical Dragon and Bamboo show) Food is excellent with fresh ingredients cooked to perfection and generous portions. On time take out and the phone answering service is courteous and they actually speak clear English. Don't take that for granted. I'm not making fun of any body here but I don't eat "fly lice" and I don't like wrong orders when I get home with that take out. It is true what most people have been saying about Mr. Chef's, it taste healthy. But the Pad Thai I got had no taste. So if this is what you call healthy you can have it. They don't care, I ordered a take out after 1.5 hour I called her that we didn't get our food, she apologized and that she thought I was going to pick it up and promised to deliver right away. So now we make it to the sushi roll, this sushi roll was horrible, we got a sweet potato roll and it smelled and tasted like fish, but wait there's no fish lol. There Volcano roll was good it only had 5 pieces which is cool they said there was suppose to be 6, I told them there is only 5 and the big manager had no explanation for it, "she said oh did you forget you ate one" lol. It was good thou, only because the topping was amazing. I'll give that to them and this is why they got one star plus Yelp doesn't let you give less then one. Terrible food. Terrible service. Take it from an Asian person that eats asian food since birth. Sushi there is not fresh and it takes them so long for them to make it. My bf and I went there to eat lunch. No one else is eating in the restaurant. Why didn't we walk out? Our fault. We ordered. Waitress has a sour attitude. Sushi takes 30 min to get the table. Mind you it's only one roll and sashimi (SLICED raw fish). Not even that but the sushi chef was eating his food. And wouldn't start preparing our food without finishing his meal. Talk about service. I love this place! I've sat in the restaurant and ate there, I have also ordered takeout and all of my experiences have been great. It's a very quiet place, usually empty but the service is good. The food taste great as well, they have good portions when you eat there. I will say it is a bit expensive but I think the food is worth it. read more

My cousin introduced me to this place last weekend. We shared the volcano maki....EXCELLENT! Very clean and has nice atmosphere. Very good staff and waitservice. We stumbled upon this restaurant and were happily surprised. The dining room itself was much nicer than the strip mall locale suggested. As for the food, my sister-in-law and I opted for Chinese. It was good and not as greasy as typical Chinese. My husband has sushi and raved about the sweet potato roll. The prices were a little higher than average chinese but worth it. Wide selection. I've been three times now. Well, sat in once and ordered to-go twice. The two things I would say are better then the average similar restaurant are: 1. Leftovers heated up the day after are actually just as good as when you got it hot from them. Fresh, fresh, fresh! 2. The service is very friendly and remembers people. The food here is really good. I have had both the Chinese food and sushi and both were very fresh and delicious. However, both times I went the service was quite slow. I also tried to order take out once and when I went to pick up my order they said they had never gotten it and didn't even offer to make it for me quickly right then. I will tell you what we ordered. The Normal Maki, Idaho Maki, Crazy Maki, California Roll, Miso soup and Singapore Rice Noodles. Everything was delicious. They have a good array of Sushi and Maki. The atmosphere was tranquil. They were not busy or too crowded. They have a good menu to choose from. We got there a little after 4PM. As we were leaving the dinner rush was coming in. Love this place! My daughter and I order delivery from here 1-3x a week. Mainly we eat different Maki, spicy tuna, California, Spider, Volcano (amazing), etc. All are excellent. I've sampled a variety of Sashimi there as well and also great. The staff is friendly, delivery on time. I can't say enough. However, if you're into Chinese more than Japanese I'd say go with the tried and true Chinatown (Canton, see awesome reviews here). It's not that they have bad Chinese food by any means, it's just that Chinatown is the best for miles. People drive down from the North Shore just to eat there. read more

I've always been a big fan of Mr Chef's, but tonight's meal was just terrible. The salmon sushi still has skin in it! The rice was crunchy. The second star in my review is for the soups (hot & sour and egg drop) which were still as good as I have come to expect from this place. There were many new faces behind the counter tonight which may account for some of the lapse in quality. When I called in my order, it was taken someone that clearly didn't know the menu or much about the sushi I was ordering. Plus, my order ended up being $5 more than the price quoted to me on the phone; that's also $5 more than the exact same order I have regularly placed dozens of times over the last couple of years.
