I came in feeling pretty unsure about what I wanted, and with the help of the owner, Lauren, and my stylist, Colleen, I walked out with a new look that I'm honestly obsessed with. I decided to get bangs, which was a little intimidating since I've never had them before and had no idea how to maintain them. Colleen took the time to walk me through styling tips and easy ways to keep them looking calm, cool, and put together, which I really appreciated. She made everything feel approachable and manageable, not overwhelming. They also offer complimentary bang trims every four weeks for maintenance, which is such a thoughtful and generous perk. Overall, the experience felt welcoming, personal, and genuinely caring. I couldn't be happier with how everything turned out.

And, I kid you not, they texted me the morning of my appt, again, to tell me they needed to reschedule my appt. After alerting them that this was the second time in a row this had happened, they gave me a cancellation slot for 4pm, which I accepted. At 3:45pm, I get a text that they need to move my appt to 4:30 because they are running behind. I accept. When I'm finally seen at 5pm, Chris is cranky that he's covering someone else's appt and it's clear he wants to go home. When he realizes that I need a color correction, I believe he almost had a tantrum, knowing it was going to be a process. I was prepared for the correction to take more than one visit and asked him to do what he could. He eventually even refuses to do a test strip on my hair to make sure I can move forward with another stylist the following day. Washes my hair and flat out refuses to do anything. And ensures me that someone will be able to do my hair the following day. The scheduler says they are completely booked for the foreseeable future so I just leave. With wet hair, and zero words to describe this experience other than inexcusable. To be fair, the manager did call me the next day to try to clear up the situation by asking for my side of events. But they'd already lost me as a customer at that point. She told me it would take multiple appointments to get my hair where I wanted. I ended up making an appt at Lava Salon with Emma instead who got me EXACTLY where I wanted to be in one appointment lasting 3 hours. I would not recommend Urban Nirvana for anything other than a trim and if you are ok with being treated poorly.

They did not paint the dye on the hair, instead they used foils exactly like full foil, and the color was uneven - from brassy browns, to orange caramel blondes, to bright whites near my face. They placed the highlights completely randomly. I will not be going back due to my 250$ bill and my stylist's inability to candidly admit she did not know how to do balayage. I felt like I should not have paid for a service that was clearly done incorrectly and wasn't what we had agreed upon. The following day I had to go to a different salon and pay 350$ to fix the work this salon had done.

But this review isn't just about Kelly's magic (which is, as always, top-tier). It's about the entire Shag Salon experience. From the moment I walked in, I felt it--like the air itself had a charge, but the good kind, not the "static shock in winter" kind. Every single stylist greeted me. Coffee and water were offered immediately. The space was bright, welcoming, and buzzing with the kind of energy that makes you want to sit down and trust the process. And trust me, the process delivers. I watched one incredible haircut after another walk out that door, each one looking like it belonged in a hair commercial. I've only ever sat in Kelly's chair, but based on what I saw, I'd trust any stylist here to work their magic. It was like watching artists at work--except the canvas is your head, and the masterpiece is your new look. Then came the real shocker: the price. Somehow, my total was far less than what I was paying at Kelly's previous salon. I even threw in some extra products to take home and still came out ahead. When does that ever happen?! So, if you're looking for a salon where talent meets warmth, where your hair gets treated like a work of art, and where you leave feeling better than when you walked in--Shag Salon is it. Trust me. Your hair (and your wallet) will thank you.
