Very disappointing experience. After a very busy year I was finally able to take a morning off work for a much needed cut and highlights. I made an appointment and provided my credit card info. I arrived to find they had no record of the appointment and were unable to accommodate me. Other times were offered but I work during their business hours and do not have the flexibility to accommodate their error. Now I have wasted valuable vacation time and still need a cut and highlights. Really enjoyed my hair cut/blow out here. Would 100% recommend and return. My stylist was friendly but not too talkative--enjoyed the experience. The location is great. I took the day off from work and I cleared my schedule for the day. I arrived at the salon and they told I wasn't in the system. Alexandra was the stylist I saw at the Mount Pleasant location - she gave me a full-head of highlights and a cut that were outstanding. I have been coming to Stella Nova in Mt Pleasant since I moved from NYC and Nicole came very highly regarded and her work is amazing! I have naturally very dark hair and she maintained my "rainbow of gold." What makes her stand out as an artist is that when I made the mistake of missing an appointment and going to a salon in Summerville and have the worse color and damage I have ever had, she was able to do her magic and salvage it. The salon is cute and clean and you can sip some wine or bourbon while your color sets, all the staff is very friendly. Nicole is very booked so call early and ask by name! Called in to grab a last minute eyebrow wax appointment. I was able to get an appointment within 15 minutes of calling. Arrived and was greeted with a warm welcome. The waxing process was the best I've experienced in a long while. Essentially painless and ensured that I was happy with the outcome. The process: She waxed my brows then cleaned it up with a tweeze, then she showed me the product so that I could decide if more hair needed to go. The salon was recommended to me, but the recommendation didn't specify a particular stylist. I randomly choose a "Master Stylist". Do not go to this salon without the name of a stylist to cut your hair. I got a butcher job and cried for some weeks before I found another stylist. I don't want to get anyone fired, but this stylist spent about 15 minutes cutting my hair. The results were lopsided, causing a long fringe at the nape of my neck on one side only. So, I'm not a bobble head or anything, but I've always been a little self conscious about my large cranium. For this reason, I've always followed Fran Drescher's lead & assumed the bigger the hair, the better, & finding a stylist has always been a little tough. (Blowouts are amazing on others, but I feel like my head looks huge when my fine hair is straight & sleek.). But then, I found Casey at Stella Nova... Seriously, she is the best stylist I've ever had, & I can't go to anyone else now. She took the time to figure out what I liked & didn't like, & she understands my big head conundrum. I've never had a bad haircut from her, & I completely trust her advice. Plus, they're always willing to squeeze me in when I need a last-minute touch up. Casey gets 5 stars, for sure! I've also had my eyebrows waxed, & for $15, it's painless on both my brows & my wallet. However, my little sister got her brows done here & they accidentally nicked the skin under her arch with shaping scissors. (It wasn't painful, but it left a red mark for about a week or so.) I definitely think this was an unlucky fluke for her, but sisterly love demands that I at least mention it here. :) If you're looking for a new stylist (or just becoming a grown up & trying to settle on one stylist), I definitely recommend Stella Nova! read more

Melinda Sowell is the esthetician I always see here, and she is fabulous! Her knowledge of the Natura Bisse products and skin care in general is a major reason for you to ask for her when you book an appointment! When I turned 40, I began to invest in my skin care-better late than never, and decided to start splurging on monthly facials. I figured my skin was worth it and it would be cheaper than a face lift! I had no previous knowledge of Natura Bisse, and despite the fact it is pricey, I can definitely tell a difference in my skin. The products beat out any other line, including La Prairie. And they work! Melinda is incredible. My skin started getting irritated in spots and inflamed, seemingly out of the blue. I thought it was hormones, but blood work disproved that theory. Melinda S. was able to prescribe a regimen that cleared it in no time. She is also a whiz at waxing! I will never understand why women insist on scrimping in this area and allow just anyone with a beauty license, and sometimes people want no license to take hair from "tender places". And i especially cringe when I see a woman getting her eyebrows waxed at a nail salon! A NAIL SALON!! Anyways, you will love your relaxing facial with Melinda Sowell here, and you will not experience any high pressure push to buy products. She just tells you what she would use, simply recommends. I had a great wash/blowout today before family pictures. I enjoyed the service and was quoted $38 for the service when I made my apt. When I checked out my stylist informed the receptionist that it was "plus 10 for curls", bringing the total to $48. I was never informed that using a curling iron would be an additional charge. An extra $10 because she used a curling iron??? I informed the receptionist that I wasn't advised of any potential up-charge by the stylist, so she agreed to honor the $38 price I was initially quoted. While I enjoyed the service, the unannounced up-charge seemed sneaky and I can only imagine what other kinds of hidden up-charges would occur during an apt that involved cut/color. Stylists are versatile, know their stuff - especially when it comes to curly hair. Thankfully, I was able to get my challenging, temperamental curly hair styled beautifully for a wedding. A couple let downs though: lots of scheduling snafus - over 10 of us patronized this salon for wedding weekend styling, and there were a lot of mix-ups (i.e. a mani/pedi scheduled for eight, yet only two techs showed), and too few staff to accommodate our needs after they had assured us they would. Their prized makeup artist was really not up to snuff. A makeup application felt rushed, unprofessional. I did not receive enough coverage (loose dusting of powder does not a foundation make) and the end job was largely something I could have accomplished on my own, including the lash application (Paying extra for a lash application that wound up being a generic cheap strip, and taking all of 1 minute is not what I was expecting - what happened to individual lash application?) that quickly came undone (humid southern weather) before the day was even through. Expensive Fail. (Note: many other wedding attendees used her services that day and a similar sentiment was shared by all, as most of our makeup was barely intact into the wedding evening) Bottom line: not too shabby of a place for hair, pass on makeup and other services, peruse their beauty goods and comparison shop prior to making a purchase. read more

While visiting Mt Pleasant I had my hair done by Sherri......she was so sweet and did a great job on my cut and color. When I returned to the South Carolina area, I called Stella Nova to have Sherri again, but she was busy for a few days so I couldn't get in with her. They recommended Jen should do my hair......and that she was the top stylist. I would have to pay a little more, I said that was ok, as long as she did a good job. When I arrived at the salon, everyone was very nice, and friendly. Jen came over and introduced herself, but didn't really act very outgoing......ok, no problem. So, I'm 63 years old, and immediately she made a comment about how women my age should wear their hair. I felt OLD and awkward. I tried to engage in conversation with her, and she was not "going there." Maybe she was having a bad day, but her attitude made me realize I won't be going back there. What a shame that she has put a damper on your salon. And I paid $200 for a single process, and a trim.......all of which were just ok.
