On numerous occasions, when I tell strangers that I go to Annya @ Luna Salon, someone else pops into the conversation saying they also go to Annya. Then we all have a bonding moment about how talented and personable Annya is. I have many friends who go to Annya. I started going to Annya when I first moved here with dry and over processed damage to my hair from a previous treatment I had while living in Chicago. My wish was to be more blonde but Annya educated me on the further damage that would happen if she made it more blonde. I appreciated Annya's honesty and integrity. Annya gave me a regime to get my hair back to a healthy state where she could eventually make me more blonde. Slowly and consistently, we followed her regime and along the way, she added high and low lights; and now my hair is healthy, shiny and blonde again. I still keep up with the regime to keep my hair healthy and continue to get many compliments on my hair. Annya has a great reputation and a large clientele so her calendar books quickly. Meleah is great to work with in scheduling my future appointments to ensure I get on Annya's highly coveted calendar. I look forward to coming into the salon where I feel valued. The stylists are professional, warm and welcoming. It feels like hanging out with my girlfriends for a few hours :)

We who have straight fine thin hair suffer from terrible haircuts most of our lives, because there…read moreis zero room for error and because it takes great skill and intuition to avoid giving cuts that make us look like dorks. The tricks that work on every other kind of hair won't work for us. James has a rare talent for cutting my hair and so he is the only hairdresser I've ever continued to return to. James is a gifted stylist. He is incredibly versatile--I've now seen him cut little children's hair, men's hair, women's hair--old, young, conservative, hip, and everything in between. He also is expert at coloring. He listens to what you want and can do anything you ask but in my case, since I want advice, he'll give it to me too. He is also very sensitive to giving you the cut that will make you feel great and look current (as opposed to the one that people of a certain age bracket are supposed to want). In addition to being an awesome stylist he clearly totally loves talking to his clients. He keeps track of everyone's lives and can chat with anyone about anything. This makes a long cut-and-color visit a treat instead of an errand. And he loves dogs and has two cute ones that often accompany him to the salon. At the time of this review James takes appointments in Mill Valley as well as Sausalito. I can't recommend him highly enough!

I have thick hair that's seemed to give stylists and barbers a hard time throughout my entire life…read more As a child, I'd get my hair cut by my mom's stylist, who did a good job because he'd worked with me for years. As I got older though, I started going to get my own haircuts. They never lived up to my expectations; it seemed that no one could figure out my hair. Then in 1999, after having suffered through high school with nothing but terrible haircuts, I met James. From the very first time James cut my hair, I was satisfied with what I paid for. Not only that, I left his salon feeling more confident and with higher self esteem. My hair actually looked good! For the first time I was actually happy with my hair, as opposed to just tolerating it. Over the years James has had the opportunity to "get to know" my hair, its quirks, etc., and the haircuts have only gotten better. Just the other day (Sept., 2012) I received a free haircut, as a sort of job interview/audition at a friends' business. It was the worst haircut I've ever had. Worse than the one my stoned friend gave me in high school. Worse than cuts I've given myself with scissors and a mirror. I can't even begin to describe how awful this cut was, you would never believe me. I don't think you could even try to give someone such an awful haircut. But I digress... I immediately called James to see if he could pencil me in for a quick fix, which he did. I basically had a buzzcut already, I figured 5-10 minutes with some clippers and we'd be done. When I got to the salon, after everyone finished laughing, James sat me in his chair. After joking about how quick this was going to be, James still ended up spending about 30 minutes cutting my hair. And I mean literally cutting it, with scissors. When most people would have simply grabbed some clippers and gone to town, James took time, and put care and effort into, cutting my hair. He did a great job (as always); so good, in fact, that most of my coworkers completely forgot how bad it had been the day before. I've recommended James to anyone and everyone I've known since I've met him and now I'm recommending him to you, fellow Yelper. Man or woman, young or old, you will be happy you went to James.
