This review is for Leah Christofferson (SF Waxing). Although the entire staff is warm, friendly, and down to Earth cool-chicks, I have yet to experience their services! Leah is an exceptional breed, possessing extensive knowledge and skill in the Brazilian bikini art-form. I have had many waxes over the years, but very few challenge Leah's unique technique and rapid speed. Her treatment room is privately tucked in the back of the swanky salon, Moxie. Her instructions are comfortable and she has a very laid back approach that makes you immediately feel comfortable in her care. She is a purist, like myself, and is dedicated to using only the finest and highest-grade natural products in her services. Her attention to detail does not go unnoticed, she inspects and makes sure every single hair has been removed, and tweezes if needed. I highly recommend all of her services, and ensure you will become a lasting client! read more

Leah is AMAZING!! I have been seeing her for over a year now and first started with waxing but have been doing sugaring for the past few months. Leah recommended sugaring for me because I have such sensitive skin and it has proven to work really well! The experience is always great and Leah is always very flexible with scheduling me given my difficult schedule with commuting. Would recommend this salon/Leah in general to anyone and everyone! read more

I had a great experience with waxing by Leah! Waxing can be a very embarrassing and sometimes a painful experience. Leah made my experience comfortable and I never thought I would say this about getting waxed but a relaxing and pain-free experience! Her place is super clean and cute as well! Leah is great and a pleasure to visit with! Thanks Leah I will see you soon!! read more

Having just moved here from LA, I was overwhelmed by the number of salons around town. Thankfully, a friend recommended Moxi to me and I decided to give it a try. May was great! She cut my hair the way I wanted, but made it look 10 times better than I had expected! She's a sweetheart. The vibe is really cool...and I appreciate the beer/wine/waterwithcucumber touches. Plus, a few weeks later, she trimmed my bangs up for free. Thumbs up! read more

I went to Moxi last night for a haircut by Andriana. I walked in and the people were extrmely friendly and welcoming. They gave me a tour of the salon and explained the "story" behind Moxi. Usually when I get a haircut, it is a "wham bam thank you mam" with a slap on the butt and get out my door... When you go to Moxi, you wonder why in the hell you ever went to any other salon. They begin with a massage with essential oils all over your neck and head for about 20 minutes, then they take you to the tranquil washroom, where there is a totally different vibe and auro than any other washroom you have ever been to! Here you hair is washed, lathered and your second massage begins for another 20 minutes! Next is the hair cut and wine! Andriana cut my hair, and I have never had a better cut in my life. She knows her hair. I am going back in a month for my color.... A very enjoyable experience all together. read more

Amazing. Came here for the second time in a few years, and once again the service and experience absolutely delivered beyond expectation. Andriana did my hair, and she is not only a pro, but fast, thoughtful and a joy to work with. Most times when you get color you curse the experience 15 minutes in, but this started with a scalp massage and felt like a spa experience throughout. No awful fumes as the products are earth/people friendly and the space is low key and calming. Recommend highly. read more

Nice super friendly and cozy atmosphere... I loved and I enjoyed meeting the staff . I recommend this place... They are so many salons on that block BUT THIS IS A GREAT PLACE. You feel like at home ! read more

So I just went to Moxi because I woke up and realized my hair was beyond a disaster...walked down Union, called red chair, they were full so I called Moxi. Rebecca cut my hair and did a great job. May gave an amazing scalp massage and a great shampoo...so I left loving my cut but had a little sticker shock. I payed 100$ for a hair cut, no color. Anyways I cant decide if I will go back cuz I like the cut but I am thinking I could have done it at Onex Rose for half the price... read more

I give this place zero stars. I am a person who is really big on customer service, especially when you are going to pay over $100 on a hair cut. My experience with them was horrible and I hope no one has to ever experience what I have. To make a long story short, they offered a promotion and I bought it for 4 visits and gave it as a gift to my grandmother. My grandmother used 2 of the visits and after became a regular customer, which cost her a lot of money and gas (but who can put a price on beauty!). After my grandfather passed away, she no longer wanted to travel downtown so she gave me the remainder 2 visits. I tried making an appointment with Moxi and they would NOT let me use her promotion!! I spoke to the manager and she also said I could NOT use it. They lost 2 customers in one phone call. Please do not support this salon - too expensive and horrible customer service. read more

Moxi provides an absolutely exceptional experience from top to bottom. Andriana has assembled and outstanding staff: Maurine is the bright smile greeting you and offering a libation, while My Loan is both inventive and considerate of your hair's needs. One could not feel more comfortable in the beautiful salon which also features beautiful artwork from local artists. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a phenomenal experience at Moxi. read more

Andriana is the best! I have been looking for the last couple of years for a colorist who uses more natural/organic products and color but couldn't make the jump from my long-time colorist as I was afraid my highlights wouldn't look the same. Based on a recommendation from somebody whose hair I liked, I tried Andriana. Wish I would've switched years ago! She really is so talented and takes the time to make sure it looks perfect, my color and cut has never looked better! To top it off, she's such a sweet and fun person to talk to. It is expensive (although not more than any other high end salon) but totally worth it. read more

Love this place! Rebecca is my gal and she does a great job at getting me to think about new looks that I would never try out otherwise. Being offered a glass of wine, some chocolate and a head massage as part of the whole experience is niiiiiiiice. I've never been disappointed here - Moxi rocks! read more

Still the best. I love Moxi. There's always a warm professional greeting, followed by a glass of wine or tea. Andriana is my all time favorite stylist. I have complicated, fussy, difficult hair, and I won't go to anyone else. She is patient, knowledgable, thoughtful, and skilled. She uses wonderful environmentally friendly products and makes sure you have a relaxing, pleasant experience every time you visit Moxi. Absolutely top notch. read more

After living in San Francisco for 3 years and only getting my hair trimmed every 6+ months when visiting my aunt's hair salon back in Boston, I decided it was time to grow up and get a real hairstyle. I was referred to Teresa by a friend in February 2012 and have been going consistenty (8-10 weeks) to her ever since! Teresa does a great job of looking at your hairtype and giving suggestions on a style that will work and look best for you. At first i brought in some pictures of ideas and now I completely trust her to use her best judgement on cutting my hair and have never regretted it! I've also referred Teresa to all of my girlfriends. She does a great job and is very affordable, especially by SF standards. On top of her great services, she is also the sweetest, most enthusiastic hairdresser! I always look forward to being pampered while at Moxi. read more

This is the best salon in San Francisco...seriously. Rebecca totally kicked it, and gave me the best cut and color I've had in years. It was EXACTLY what I wanted. I've tried several salons in the city and they've all left me kind of cold. Either my cut sucked or I felt really uncomfortable because of the ginormous 'tudes of the employees. So much so, that I was actually dreading my appointment today. I was pleasantly surprised. The second I walked through the door, winded and slightly icky from running to the salon after misjudging how long it would take me to get there, I was met with genuinely lovely people. The woman at the front desk didn't look me up and down when I came in, disheveled and breathless as I was. She just gave me a welcoming smile and asked me if I'd like something to drink. Water, tea, wine? Then she graciously showed me around, and left me to freshen up in the restroom. I walked back to the lobby to find a crisp glass of water waiting for me. The hint of cucumber in the water was a wonderful touch. Rebecca then introduced herself to me and we walked to her chair. She listened to what I wanted, and gave suggestions on what she thought would look good. And she was totally right. The perfect combination of expertise and girl-friendliness. I felt prettier just having sat down in front of her mirror. It was never awkward or forced. Very relaxing. I ended up with some great product to go along with my beautiful new hair. Moxi is MY salon and I highly recommend that you make it yours. I can't wait to try the spa out. Oh, and I love the hair dryers suspended from the ceiling! Yeah Moxi! read more

Only one hair stylist in this salon. Appointments need to be booked at least 3 weeks in advance. Was there for a thermal treatment, informed stylist of the time I need to be out of the salon...sat there while she was talking to another client, forgot about my time, and I had to go remind her that I HAVE to go. Poor service. Not accomodating for late appointments. Would NOT recommend this place, had much better service from higher-end salons. read more

Andriana (senior stylist and salon owner) provides a high end experience for her customers. You feel like you are a VIP at a spa. When you arrive you are given a tour of the salon. Andriana is huge proponent of going green and most of the components of the salon from the paint to the floors are recycled. After being offered a glass of wine or beer, I settled into the chair. She patiently listened to my ideas of a cut and looked at the pictures that I brought. She explained what she thought would look best for the type of hair I have and my face shape. Then she proceeded to give me a glorious aromatherapy scalp massage for about 5 minutes. Dreamy. Then off to the sink for a hair wash for more scalp massaging. More dreamy. While having my hair washed I noticed a lot of great art on the walls. She supports local artists by displaying their work for 6 weeks and has a party one night so clients and guests can meet the artist. At the end of my very meticulous cut, she went over ways to style and blow dry my hair. Looked and felt like a superstar when I left. Thank you Andriana! read more

Just wanted to note that I got a call from the owner asking if there was anything she could do to make me happier with my experience. Given the number of hair salons in this area, I'm not going to go back here but I appreciate her efforts. I will say the other clients I saw seemed happy with the services they were getting. Maybe I was just unlucky. Anyway, giving one more star for the effort. read more

Great salon with a really friendly welcoming atmosphere. Elizabeth did a great job on my hair and I'll definitely be back. read more

Let me just first say that Teresa has been cutting, coloring, and styling my hair for over 10 years. I have followed her from the East Bay to various salons in the city. I love what she does to my hair. She is a master at color and always spot on. Her cuts are on the cutting edge of the latest fashion. She is a delight to talk to. I continue to go to her because of her high level of expertise. She has cut my boyfriends hair and does an amazing job on men's hair as well as women's hair. She does the feather hair extensions and is very skilled at them. I am such a fan and I know that anyone that gives her a shot will not be disappointed. read more

I love Moxi and Andriana! I had been to several other salons in the city and was referred to Andriana by a friend and have never looked back. Her salon is welcoming, adorable and always full of my favorite eco-friendly products that are both amazing for you and the environment. Even after moving out of the city, I will still make the journey to this salon on Union Street. Andriana knows how to cut hair with the best of the them and I always just let her "do her thing" when I come in! read more

Excellent service and PR skills. I recvd a gift certificate about 10 months ago for 4 introductory treatments which included hair styling, massage, etc. They honored my 4th treatment last week and I'll continue to patronize and refer friends to this wonderful salon. Rebecca was my hair stylist, and Belinda provided the other treatments. From my phone calls to schedule an appt. to entering the salon, the staff is always friendly and gracious, offering refreshments, and treating clients with respect and skill. read more

I have been meaning to review this place for a while. They have a great location surrounded by tons of cute shops and restaurants. Inside is lovely, open and spacious. They have a nice variety of hair essentials and an estetician onsite who provides many services. They support local artists, which I love. They send me email invitations to parties they're throwing to show artwork too. The hair dryers hang from the ceiling. They managed to make it modern a oddly rustic at the same time with hard wood floors. They're all laid back and welcoming and it was an overall good experience. I left with a great little cut and blow-dry. Check them out for sure. read more

Andriana is the best. Strangers stop me to ask where I have my hair done - that's never happened before! Before finding Moxi, I went to all the high end salons in the city, but Moxi is a keeper. Everyone at Moxi is always super friendly, and personable. They truly care about their clients. Andriana is a whiz with superfine hair, and will talk in depth with you about skin tone, face shape, daily maintenance - she listens, and gets it right every time! Highly recommended!! read more

I've been meaning to post this for awhile but after my last awesome trip to moxi and Teresa's chair, I knew I had to pay it forward. Teresa does an awesome job on my hair! She even made brunette look good on me (my closer hair color is to blonde). And she really does care about her clients. Im glad i don't have to go back to SoCal anymore for my haircuts and color. Thanks Teresa for rocking my tresses :) read more

went back and Natasha made the necessary adjustments and was as wonderful as ever. I came out with some great color from their natural spray tan. glad i went back and and am grateful she really listens and values her customer feedback! great gal-i will definitely be going back... read more

Andriana has pulled off her vision of a warm and fun atmosphere with great cuts, perfect color, and use of natural products. There is no reason to go anywhere else when you have it right the first time. I constantly get compliments on the natural color and healthy look of my hair. It feels so healthy. I have been enjoying this experience for over 5 years. Andriana has a fun staff who enjoy the experience with you. I look forward to getting my hair done and then shopping in the wonderful shops on Union Street. read more

As an emerging local San Francisco artist, I have to say that Moxi salon and it's beautiful staff, are fantastic! They provided me with such a fun Artist opening and silent auction, which was very fun and successful. I have exhibited my paintings at almost a dozen spaces now, and Moxi was the best place :) Can't wait to display there again! read more

This review is for Leah Christofferson The staff at Moxi is very friendly, down to earth and helpful. I have been going to Leah for about 4 years for all my waxing needs. She is extremely professional, caring and accommodating to your requests and schedule. she is very good at what she does, so it is painless and quick. She uses the best line of products which accommodates my sensitive skin needs. She makes you feel very comfortable and is very thorough. She always makes sure you are happy with the finished product and takes the time to make sure it is done well. She works for herself which provides her the ability to work with you to meet your needs. I love Leah Christofferson! Definitely book your next appointment with her! read more

This has to be the most unprofessional salon that I have ever been to. They quoted me $70 for partial platinum highlights. After three hours she was blowing out my hair and it didn't even look different! I thought it may have been the light so I didn't say anything. When I went to pay, the girl said $140, that's double! When I asked her what was up with that she shakingly said it was because "I had highlights all over" I even had a 20% discount and it still that price. I hesitantly paid, then I immediately went back to my work to confirm that it was not done correctly. When I walked into work, they asked me "weren't you supposed to get your hair done?" I looked in a mirror with better lighting since they keep their salon dimly lit (I wonder why?) I then called to complain and they put me on hold forever to only come back to say that the stylist was busy and she would call me back. Guess what? No call back. I would have gone back over there if i wasn't on my way out of town. I would advise people to stay far from here. I put in a complaint @ the better business burro. Don't get taken advantage of! read more

Beautiful, clean, well-kept salon. When I walked in I was quickly greeted by a friendly staff member. When I told them i was looking for hanz de fuko products (so hard to find anywhere-but they have it!) they called another staff member over to help me select the right product. Very pleasant experience and transaction :) read more

I love Moxi & Andrianna. My hair can have a mind of it's own, but somehow Andrianna turns it into a work of art. I am a super low maintenance hair person & am able to maintain my good hair ( & continue to get compliments) for weeks and weeks after the cut. Only Andrianna touches my hair. p.s. the art is always super cool read more

I have been to over a dozen different spas for waxing, and Leah hands down is the best waxer I've ever had. I don't know what is special about her technique, but it's painless and pretty quick. The salon's really cute and clean, and everyone is really friendly. read more

The staff here is so unprofessional, they called me at 7 PM at night to tell me my stylist is sick but on antibiotics and if I still wanted her to do my hair in the morning. I returned their call and stated that I still wanted to keep my 10 AM appointment and would see them tomorrow as I would be traveling and didn't have time to reschedule. At 9:15 AM in the morning they called to tell me that they couldn't get a hold of the stylist because she is sick but if I still wanted to come in. They couldn't give me a definite time as to when the sick stylist would be available and also mentioned she has to take a 45 minute bus to get to work. The excuse was "well she is generally not sick so this is not usually and issue"???? I declined to come in as I was being made to feel like I was being insensitive because I wanted my hair appointment. Why give me the option to come in in the first place? Why would you call a customer at 7 PM at night? This was beyond inconveinenet. I am just shocked that an upscale salon couldn't find a solution to this issue and would be so unprofessional. read more

Thanks to Andriana for tending to my wedding hair. I've been going to her for cuts & color for about 3 years and have always been happy. for my wedding, she had some great ideas on how to make it bridey enough but not too much. I am not that girl who starting planning my wedding at age 5 so I really had nothing particular in mind. She came up with a great plan...and rolled with the punches when a foggy morning decided to change our plans. My hair came out great! read more

I haven't had this many compliments on my hair in years! Andriana did a fantastic job, and I already booked an appointment for my husband...all I had to tell him was "You get a shoulder/scalp massage followed by a cold beer, not to mentiona fantastic hair cut", needless to say he was sold. To top it off, the salon is beautiful and the experience as a whole was superb! Thank you!!! read more

Amazing cut and color (best I have had since I moved here 3 years ago and have been having hair fiascos trying to find a stylist) - well worth the price. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. My stylist even went out to grab me lunch while we waited for my color to take! I would highly Moxi (especially blonds- FINALLY- someone who got it right... not yellow, brassy or, as I like to call some of my bad colors: khaki and beige.) read more

I just found out my stylist Rebecca won't be here any more-but not to worry she'll still be in the city, at the Barber Lounge on Folsom Street. Shes the absolute best and I'd follow her ANYWHERE. I hope the lounge realizes how lucky they will be to have her. read more

Best place in town! I followed stylist MyLoan from the Red Chair Salon to Moxi and coudn't be happier with the move! MyLoan is a natural at what she does (and she's a hottie, too, which is nice!). I'm fairly conservative and professional when it comes to hair, and I'm not one for making big changes in my hair style. But MyLoan did a fantastic job recommending some subtle changes that look WAY better than before. I look at pictures of me from last year compared to now and the difference is noticeable! Moxi is at a great location on Union Street, great service, and salon owner Andriana is top notch. I highly recommend this place and MyLoan in particular! read more
