I checked with other shops in the area. This is not even in the ballpark of a fair price. They are lying about providing an estimate prior to service. That never happened. They threatened to "kick my a**" because I was attempting to argue these charges. They called me a dbag, told me to F myself. All sorts of profanity and insults. Just an absolutely insane way to treat a customer who has brought business to them for years. Never again. My fault for trusting them to conduct their business in an honest manner. I've taken vehicles here before so I wasn't expecting to get ripped off and extorted like this. I certainly was not expecting to be threatened with violence. It is unfathomable to me how a business owner could think that scamming, stealing from, insulting, and threatening working people in their own community will be a successful business strategy. If this is how they treat locals, imagine how they treat tourists... Edit: the business owner is blatantly lying in their reply to this review. I WAS NEVER PROVIDED AN ESTIMATE. Stop lying. Charge me a fair price, and don't threaten to beat me up when I complain about you scamming me. It's really not that difficult. Just be a decent human being. What is wrong with these people? This place used to be ok. Sadly, not anymore. I dont know what changed, but do yourself a favor and steer clear.

Neither of us won in this situation, but I commend him for being accountable as a professional and a business owner, for not doing the complete diagnostic that would have saved both of us time and money. I will note that unlike most shops, the fee for the diagnostic is not deducted from the repair, even if you go with them to have the work done, which is a little disappointing, especially when the diagnostic was incomplete (replaced the axle but never completing the diagnostic up the line to figure out what caused the axle to be bending in the first place). That incomplete diagnostic resulted in work that was paid for, and paid for again somewhere else when I tried to drive it back to this shop, because the bearing/axle catastrophically failed, in motion, near another local shop, and when they put the vehicle on the lift and removed the wheel, the bearing exploded all over their shop and the axle had to be repaired again, out of my pocket, then and there to even get it out of their bay and onto a tow truck. It cost me even more to replace the axle the second time, because the ABS sensor also got destroyed. Both repairs were money wasted because if the diagnostic had been complete and thorough in the first place, my insurance company and I would've decided to total the truck out. Instead, I ended up throwing $4000 at a vehicle that I would have walked away from had I had the complete issue in front of me; the rear diff gearbox was the source of the issue and the whole back end would have needed to be repaired to solve the problem. Had I known that, and had they even properly diagnosed at that point, that the replaced axle was a symptom and not the actual problem, when I brought it right back after the first "repair" because it was having the exact same issue I just paid almost $2000 to be repaired , because the new axle was also bending right out of the gate, placing improper lateral pressure on the bearing, which eventually exploded, we could have both been saved a lot of time and money and truly scary driving when my vehicle was howling and shaking so badly that the new axle was moments away from completely seizing, in motion. A complete diagnostic off the bat, would have made this a completely different experience, and while I know removing a third body and actually inspecting the gearbox is a huge pain, when someone shows up with an axle issue, it would be common practice for any mechanic to look for the cause instead of just the symptom. I would have done that myself had I had a lift, the tools and extra set of hands handy, but that is exactly why I brought it to a professional mechanic to do the diagnostic in the first place. For what I was charged for a diagnostic, it should have been thorough, and if the cause of the problem had been properly diagnosed in the beginning, I would've walked away, happily paying them the diagnostic fee and making the decision to not proceed with any further repairs on a 21-year-old vehicle. That is how we both could have won in this situation. I'm giving the business three stars because I have other friends that I've had good experiences there and while I was personally not impressed with the work or the incomplete diagnostic and the headaches we both had as a result of a simple incomplete diagnostic and incomplete repair, I commend Patrick for having this hard conversation with me and taking responsibility for his part in this matter. I would likely take my vehicle there again, simply because others have had good experiences there, and because while difficult for both of us to have this conversation , Patrick took accountability to resolve this chaos as best as he could in the end. I respect that in a business owner, as I am also a small business owner. Beware however, that the diagnostic fee is not deducted from repairs, and also, that I am not the only client who has experienced incomplete diagnostic work with them. I hope they take this review as a chance to improve, versus just a criticism, because that it was it is meant to provide, an opportunity to do better down the line.

We immediately called Summit Ford and asked if there was someone how could help us. They said they would try to squeeze us in. 60 miles later, we arrived at summit ford only to find out there may or may not be a diesel technician in on Thursday (this was Monday at 8:30am)but unsure. That would have been nice to know beforehand. The guy behind the desk was unhelpful, would hardly acknowledge us and didn't even have the decency to recommend another local business. They recommended WE DRIVE AN HOUR AND HALF TO FLAT LAND, and see if it would work it self out. WHAT?!? Absolutely, Ludicrous. At that time, I just started making phone calls to local mechanics. Thank god we stumbled on western Summit Mobile Service! They answered and immediately said to bring our truck right over. We were greeted by Matthew who came out to the truck and started working on the truck right away. Not only very professional but the friendliest of guys! Rocky came out and helped as well. We also learned that the truck would not have made it to this "flat land" summit ford "recommended". Unfortunately, after working on the truck for 30 minutes, they came to the conclusion that we needed some additional equipment but they graciously recommended another local business across the street and didn't even charge us a fee. We truly appreciate their willingness to help.

I first contacted SAB at the end of August, I'm a local and they had good reviews. I initially called and emailed them to confirm they had capacity and sent them the damages estimate from the insurance appraiser. Mitchel said "yeah it should be fine, let me look over the appraisal and I'll call you back"... and then never got back to me. After 3 weeks of waiting and asking when I could drop off my car, we decided to drive to his shop and speak in person, and ultimately left it there with him to begin working on it. Mitchell said this would be a big repair, with far more damages than the 8k estimated and would take 6 weeks. After 3 weeks we called for an update, in which Mitchell said it would actually be 16k in repairs and that he was submitting the paperwork to my insurance today. A few days after not seeing any further correspondence, we call Mitchell again and he tells us the insurance company has asked for more photos which he is sending today. A few more days later, we call our insurance company to ask what the hold up was about. Turns out he has not submitted anything. So we call Mitchell back, now frustrated, and he claims the insurance website/portal was difficult. We decided to wait one more week for updates/progress since I was out of town traveling for work. Now late October, our insurance company has not heard a thing from Mitchell, they call him directly to try to assist and it is decided that my car will be towed down to Denver to a different auto body shop. My car arrives the next day and we find out that Mitchell had never even taken my car apart to inspect the 8k in addition damages that he claimed it needed. The new body shop in Denver immediately took it apart and order parts and said it will be done in 2 weeks. My conclusion here is that Michell is a liar and I would not recommend anyone take their car here for service.
