I have been thinking about how to word my review, in order to both acknowledge that I appreciate Patrick having a very hard conversation about an incomplete repair that resulted in a catastrophic failure of my vehicle while in motion, resulting in my vehicle being totaled out, and him taking responsibility for an incomplete diagnostic that resulted in that incomplete repair, while also noting the challenges in getting to that point. Neither of us won in this situation, but I commend him for being accountable as a professional and a business owner, for not doing the complete diagnostic that would have saved both of us time and money. I will note that unlike most shops, the fee for the diagnostic is not deducted from the repair, even if you go with them to have the work done, which is a little disappointing, especially when the diagnostic was incomplete (replaced the axle but never completing the diagnostic up the line to figure out what caused the axle to be bending in the first place). That incomplete diagnostic resulted in work that was paid for, and paid for again somewhere else when I tried to drive it back to this shop, because the bearing/axle catastrophically failed, in motion, near another local shop, and when they put the vehicle on the lift and removed the wheel, the bearing exploded all over their shop and the axle had to be repaired again, out of my pocket, then and there to even get it out of their bay and onto a tow truck. It cost me even more to replace the axle the second time, because the ABS sensor also got destroyed. Both repairs were money wasted because if the diagnostic had been complete and thorough in the first place, my insurance company and I would've decided to total the truck out. Instead, I ended up throwing $4000 at a vehicle that I would have walked away from had I had the complete issue in front of me; the rear diff gearbox was the source of the issue and the whole back end would have needed to be repaired to solve the problem. Had I known that, and had they even properly diagnosed at that point, that the replaced axle was a symptom and not the actual problem, when I brought it right back after the first "repair" because it was having the exact same issue I just paid almost $2000 to be repaired , because the new axle was also bending right out of the gate, placing improper lateral pressure on the bearing, which eventually exploded, we could have both been saved a lot of time and money and truly scary driving when my vehicle was howling and shaking so badly that the new axle was moments away from completely seizing, in motion. A complete diagnostic off the bat, would have made this a completely different experience, and while I know removing a third body and actually inspecting the gearbox is a huge pain, when someone shows up with an axle issue, it would be common practice for any mechanic to look for the cause instead of just the symptom. I would have done that myself had I had a lift, the tools and extra set of hands handy, but that is exactly why I brought it to a professional mechanic to do the diagnostic in the first place. For what I was charged for a diagnostic, it should have been thorough, and if the cause of the problem had been properly diagnosed in the beginning, I would've walked away, happily paying them the diagnostic fee and making the decision to not proceed with any further repairs on a 21-year-old vehicle. That is how we both could have won in this situation. I'm giving the business three stars because I have other friends that I've had good experiences there and while I was personally not impressed with the work or the incomplete diagnostic and the headaches we both had as a result of a simple incomplete diagnostic and incomplete repair, I commend Patrick for having this hard conversation with me and taking responsibility for his part in this matter. I would likely take my vehicle there again, simply because others have had good experiences there, and because while difficult for both of us to have this conversation , Patrick took accountability to resolve this chaos as best as he could in the end. I respect that in a business owner, as I am also a small business owner. Beware however, that the diagnostic fee is not deducted from repairs, and also, that I am not the only client who has experienced incomplete diagnostic work with them. I hope they take this review as a chance to improve, versus just a criticism, because that it was it is meant to provide, an opportunity to do better down the line. read more

Responsive, efficient, did great work when I was in the mountains worried about getting home.

Came to this shop for a couple reasons, first because of the high star rating and second, their ability to get me in within a reasonable time as I was traveling in the area on a hunting trip. Everything started really well, customer service lady was friendly enough and took great notes about my request and issue. I had already diagnosed my main problem, which was a transfer case chain needing replaced. They quoted $1600 for the labor because I already had the part which was fine. I dropped the vehicle off on a Monday and they said it would be done by Friday. Perfect timing because I had plans to leave Saturday morning. A couple days go by and I call them to get an update, this was Wednesday afternoon. They said they had it on the schedule to be worked on Thursday and again would be done by Friday. Thursday comes and I call again to find out about progress and plan logistics of picking the vehicle up on Saturday as they are closed weekends. The lady has me wait and I speak to the "mechanic" working on my vehicle. He tells me my transfer case is "trashed" , they found chunks of metal (duh probably from the chain) and that I need to replace the whole transfer case with a new one that they have to order and it won't be in for a few days. I ask how far along they are in the repair and if they have the transfer case open. They respond that they haven't gotten that far and that the transfer case was empty of fluid but that they hadn't opened it up, because they thought it would be a waste of labor since they said I needed a new unit. This was a huge red flag. How do you diagnose a transfer case without opening it up. Short answer is you can't. After a few minutes of them trying to convince me to spend $3600 on a new transfer case and discourage me from driving the vehicle. I decline that service and told them to put fluid back in the transfer case and that I'll take the vehicle back home at my own risk and fix it when I return to Arizona. Long story short they charge their "diagnostic fee" if you can even call it that. (Extortion fee) and they charged me for 2 quarts of transfer case fluid even though dry capacity for my transfer case is only 1quart, and I take my vehicle. I then proceeded to drive my vehicle back to Arizona 800 miles and schedule a service at a local shop in AZ. I drive the vehicle for 2 more weeks daily back and forth to work with minimal issues. The shop in Arizona charged $1100. It was in fact the transfer case chain was worn and "loose" the shop also replaced the 3 seals for the output and input shafts ($100). And inspected the gears and bearing for any excessive wear and found the transfer case to be a good shape. I don't know if AutoMotives LLC just doesn't like some jobs and if they don't they try and upsell to discourage or they just do this to unknowing people to try and get more profit. All I know is that I was very disappointed in their dishonesty and I'm glad I listened to my gut when the red flags started going up. Just wish it wouldn't have cost me my time and unnecessary money for nothing. I really wish they would have just fixed what I asked and they would have gotten my $1600. Instead they tried to pull a fast one, either out of ignorance or actual mechanic knowledge or lack of wanting the work, or maybe because I was from out of state.. who knows. Buyer beware. read more

Every time I've taken my vehicle in, some times on short notice, repairs have been thorough and very quick. He's honest, reasonably priced and very respectful. The people who want work for free are the only ones whom I'm seeing leaving bad reviews. He doesn't deserve that. WE LIVE IN THE MOUNTAINS PEOPLE. If you can't drive your car right in the mountains and then want to complain about it AND want the work done for free, go some where else. I chose this shop out of a mild desperation. My car was overheating, and none of the other mechanics had an opening for two days. The first thing I saw, going in, was a MAGA shirt. Hey, maybe it'll be okay, anyway... These people are cultists, but cultists can do a good job. They spent HOURS diagnosing the car, which led, of course, to an hourly rate... When they finally found a crack in the radiator. Then, the power started to misfire, which they spent another stretch trying to figure out, but could not. More hourly rates. It was a fucking loose battery cable. Either they're ripping people off by pretending to be incompetent morons, or they aren't pretending. I'm guessing the latter. read more

I took my BMW 328i into the shop because of a burning smell, smoke coming out from the engine, and some leaking fluid I had noticed. After the diagnostic, they said it was leaking coolant from coolant turbo lines causing the issues. They also noted some leaking from the rear pinion seals, but that wasn't as urgent. I had the coolant lines repaired immediately which I will note kept the car running cooler and there wasn't the same smoke and leaking fluid. I called a couple days after I had my car back to replace the pinion seals and I spoke with Patrick who asked me to remind him to order the parts because he was busy. It took me 3 phone calls with one voicemail and twice speaking with people to try and order these parts. I eventually had to go back in-person to order them after 2 weeks of trying. I was still getting a burning smell and some smoke coming out, so I wanted them to figure out what's going on since it should have been fixed and nothing else was mentioned on the previous diagnostic. After they then had my car for another full week, they came back claiming there was a mechanic that did the initial inspection who was no longer with the company that missed another $4000 in leaks that were causing the smoke and smell after I had just spent a little under $3000 to fix the issues. Furthermore, the parts I was trying to order ended up not being necessary because the rear seals weren't leaking hardly anything at all. Knowing all this would have changed my entire thought process of even keeping the car let alone fixing it. The initial incomplete and incorrect diagnostic, the total hassle and time taken to order parts, the extended re-diagnostic, hiding behind a former mechanic that messed up my car diagnostic with no attempt at remedying the situation - I am frustrated and caution others about going here. read more

Honest, knowledgeable, positive. When our brakes were causing severe shimmying in our Camry, we took it to the highest-rated mechanic in town: Auto Motives. I explained the shimmying and that we'd recently had our tires rotated and balanced. Cody politely disagreed that the tires were the cause, and said it was probably warped rotors due to braking on mountain highways. She could charge $600 for new rotors, she explained, but instead she went to our car, felt the rotors, and advised just letting them cool down. She was right. Absolutely horrible customer service. I hope they can fix a car because everything else was awful...Just to say it publicly, here you go. 9 days to get what was basically shocks and struts: Called for appointment to get my car fixed and was told told to drop off Monday 9 AM , which I did. Monday goes by, Tuesday, no call from Auto Motives. So, Wednesday morning I call and a woman says, she's been trying to get ahold of me. Apparently she'd taken my phone number down wrong (she seemed to blame me, like I gave her the wrong number?). Did she bother to check caller ID? Look for a similar number? Of course not! But, she then sent a text with an estimate, I approved the repairs and was told the car would be ready on Thursday. Perfect! Thursday, no word, all day Friday, no word. Finally I call on Friday afternoon and am told the car will be ready by the end of the day. OK, screwed up my Friday, but car is done. I say to the woman, Hey, I'm riding my bike from Breck, 15 miles, so are you sure it will be ready? Don't make me ride there and then tell me it won't be ready til Monday.... guess what? I ride there and she tells me it won't be ready til Monday (at this point is becomes apparent that my car is their least priority, as the mechanic is stuck on some bolts and not even close to being done). Fast forward to Monday. All day goes by, no word (yes, good communication is a big part of customer service. All you want is honest communication about what's happening!). Finally I call in the evening expecting to get a voicemail, but some guy answers. I start to explain the issue, and, honest to god, the guy spends 10 minutes yelling at me, telling me how, they ordered the wrong parts (my fault because I have German car), my car is neglected (yeah, that's why I'm bringing it in to get work), it's not like "flipping burgers" (I swear, he said this 3 times!). All I was trying to say was that I need my car by....cuts me off again and again basically screaming: Everyone needs their car! There's a free public transportation system in the County! Thanks, I know this, but what I was trying to say, but couldn't because I was getting screamed at, was that I need to pick up my daughter on Wednesday morning at the airport, so if my car isn't going to be ready, then please let me know so I can make other plans. Impossible. He kept talking over me. Finally, I said, have a good night. Probably the most rude, unresponsive, unpleasant customer service experience I've had in awhile, and, yes, the bar is set pretty low. Finally, Tuesday AM I get a bill via text, and so I pay, head over at 2 PM. No one there! Won't answer their phone, nothing. I wait and wait and an hour later someone show's up and I get my car. That was the capper. Absolutely the worst experience I've ever had getting a car repaired (and, yes, once again, the bar is set pretty low)... Do your self a favor and go anywhere else.
