I am not a big chain girl-- nothing can beat the feeling of discovering a local favorite. However, Moulin is an exception to this rule. I have spent so many brunch dates with the girls at this spot because it's fast, accessible, and consistently delicious. Ever since Champagne Bakery closed in Woodbridge, I searched for a new little French cafe in a walkable area. Before Moulin opened up in 2014, the space was an adorable bakery with the most delicious little pastries and coffees. We were heartbroken when it left! When Moulin replaced it, we were a little skeptical (and mourning the old bakery a bit) but still tried it out. We've been coming back ever since--almost ten years at this point. My go-to is the classic Croque Madame, but their general selection is all solid. Their coffee is fresh, and they have a cool selection of French drinks and snacks as well in the store. read more

Moulin is a sweet little French bakery that is worth making the stop into. The place is legit French. The pastries and very tasty and the sandwiches look great. The coffee drinks are a hit and miss. It all depends on your barista and what you order. The food and pastry service is fast. The coffee service is pretty slow. Again, though, it depends on which barista you get. The ambiance is great and relaxing. They have a chill little front porch that you can just sit and people watch while you sip your drinks. 3.0 stars We've been to many French places. Many. This one is by far the most average. It felt like Disney world food - it looked amazing but when you sit down and sink your teeth into it. You realize there's nothing to brag home about. Choc croissant was eh Sandwich was eh - bread was chewyyy. Coffee was good And some of the dessert was whatever. I have come here since they opened. I am local. Today debated between here and a locally owned restaurant. Wish I'd chosen better. Moulin sals to eat in...hands me a paper bowl of salad with stale croutons I went back up to the counter and asked them to at least give me a real plate and real silverware in as I was eating it. It was done, but not cheerfully. Really I could've had warm food, freshly prepared for the exact same price and been waited on. This was not what I had hoped for. read more

My friend and I came here for brunch and had the Quiche Lorraine and Croque Madame. I loved the quiche and my friend said the Croque Madame tasted like what she had in Paris a couple years ago. Currently they have the street blocked off so no cars can pass through. I do love this to be able to walk around and make it feel more like a little town but keep in mind it does make it a little tougher to find parking in an area already hard to find parking. To me their pastries are 1000x more memorable than their other breakfast/lunch items but the food is definitely still good. It's just that if you want to really get something that WOWs you I'd go for the pastries. The almond croissant was OMG good!!! Perfect texture and flavor. Very warm and inviting space with the cutest furniture. Really transports you into the whole France vibe. My aunt brought me here and I'm so glad she did! I don't go to many bakeries but this one seems like a very popular and high-end one. I wanted something light and sweet so I got the crêpe nutella and chocolat chaud (hot chocolate), both of which were yummy and satisfied my sweet tooth without a doubt. The staff seemed friendly and efficient and they gave a chocolat noir (dark chocolate) for each item I ordered. I'd say the prices are pretty reasonable, compared to other brunch locations especially near the beach. There is seating inside and outside. My wife and I are frequent customers and enjoy the food and service as well as location. Last week we had our usual breakfast and asked for a cup of hot water to make another tea ( same tea bag ) I was asked to pay for the hot water. I just spent $46 and always tip well and was quite shocked as to this policy. It won't stop me coming back but wanted to let the management know this is not a good customer service policy. I have never been to France but setting foot in this place I almost feel that I dont need to. In the past I have gone for French press coffee, baguettes with ingredients imported from France and an egg sandwich (which were both great) but this time I went for a Napoleon dessert and I couldn't have been more pleased with my selection, however I must say every dessert looked amazing (as you'll be able to see from my pics). Customer service wide -the staff is as focused on being expedient as they are on making sure that every plate and package for people dining in or getting takeout is presented in an aesthetically pleasing manner. They put so much thought in presentation I wouldn't be surprised if some staff worked in fine dining restaurants. Additionally the inside is very clean. I highly recommend this place if you are unable to travel to France but want to feel.like you were there for a few minutes at least or if yoy want sweet desserts to go :-) read more

I visited this location today. It's located on Forest Avenue in downtown Laguna Beach. The inside is very cramped with limited seating so be sure to get there early in order to get a table. I ordered the quiche Lorraine and it was very delicious. The portions were large which I liked. If I comeback, I will definitely order the quiche Lorraine again. I highly recommend it. The salad, however, was too plain and lacked flavor. The prices were a bit high as well. read more

Came here for a quick brunch and I chose the veggie omelet. It was seasoned perfectly and well balanced with the side salad and toast on the side with the packaged apricot jam. This particular Moulin location is located in Laguna Beach, across the street from the main boardwalk on Forest ave. During COV-19 they had outdoor patio seating. They offer most of the items found at their main location which included an assortment of pastries, croissants, crepes, coffee, and sandwiches. Chocolate Hazlenut Tart ($6.00) - Do you love chocolate as much as I do? Then the chocolate hazlenut tart is the thing to order! This treat is so decadent and rich and will satisfy every chocoholic's sweet tooth! I highly recommend pairing this dessert with some coffee. Almond Croissant ($4.50) - This has to be one of the best if not best almond croissants I have tried. It was buttery, crispy, and flaky on the outside and the inside was soft and a little doughy. It was filled with a delicious almond pastry cream and I was happy to report that there was plenty of it! I really enjoyed this treat, even though it was on the high end price wise compared to other croissant places. Overall I was really impressed with this location of Moulin as I am with their other locations. They really bring that French cafe experience to Southern California. One thing I have noticed is that all the staff at all the locations I have visited are fluent in French. That makes it even more authentic, lol! read more

Since lockdown, I've been missing traveling, especially my last trip to France. We saw Moulin on Yelp and reallly wanted to try their pastry and desserts, and see for ourselves whether if it was as good as those I've had at the French countryside. Moulin is located in the heart of Laguna beach and it's hard to miss. They have a pretty large/wide store front so it's hard to miss, with a few spots outside where you can stop for a quick bite even when there's no outdoor dining allowed (please still practice social distancing esp when you take off your mask to eat!). We just went for the tried and true pan du chocolat, and the Cube chocolate to try their pastry and the dessert. I'd have to say that the pastries are definitely more on the expensive side, but of course not unexpected since it's an Orange County type of bakery. I wish they had asked whether if we had wanted the pastry warmed up, cause it really would've elevated it to the next level! Nonetheless, the chocolate croissant wasn't TOOO chocolatey, but was very indulgent still. There was chocolate sprinkled evenly in the bread and the pastry was very airy yet crisp on the outside. We haven't yet had the cube chocolat yet, but it is very delicate and have an incredibly thin layer of chocolate coating on the outside. I guess it is worth the price tag since I can imagine the delicate work required to put this dessert together. I can't wait for covid days to be over for us to try out this place again, dine in and try some of their kitchen items so we can get a better taste of France! read more

I went in moulin bakery this morning. First, the wait to order was 20 mins because they only had one young lady working in the front. When I got to the front I explained that I wanted just a fried egg and French baguette. She said it was not possible. She said my only option was to get an omelette and a piece of baguette would come on the side. When I got my order it was scrambled eggs with a piece of regular toast. I asked them to exchange the toast for the baguette and the manager Emma said she would not exchange the bread and said I had to buy the baguette separately with Jam for an additional $10. She was very rude and made it seem like it was about the money when it was their mistake. I paid the extra $10 and she purposely took her time not to bring me the baguette. By that time I was disgusted by the entire situation and could not eat my food or the baguette. The scrambled egg were cold and nasty by then. I had the waitress return the baguette without asking for my money back. The waitress that worked there then pulled me to the side and said this is a French bakery and they don't like people from the Middle East. She also said I would not return here if I were you. I love the almond croissants here but I was a bit late today which is ok cause they have so many delicious pastries to chose from. Grabbed a cup of cappuccino and some pastries with my cousin to enjoy while taking a day off from this hectic life. Frist time trying Moulin and surprisingly, it was so good! We went to the Laguna Beach location and luckily, found street parking. This French café serves coffee, pastries, and other entrees. We got their steak and frites ($24), onion soup ($9), nutella crepe ($7), and berry tart ($7.50). Their ribeye steak was so tender and juicy. It also came with a side of salad.
