I enjoyed my visit at Mottley Kitchen. I came on a Saturday not quite wanting brunch but a decent egg sandwich in a relaxed atmosphere and Mottley Kitchen gave me that. It has a true neighborhood, relaxed feel. It's close to public transportation so if you want to grab something when you are on your way somewhere else it's the perfect spot. The Mottley Kitchen is a welcome, healthy eatery that has really nice people working the counter. I've been going for years now, and am so happy to have it in the neighborhood. I work nearby and get lunch here about three times a week. Being a creature of habit, I always order the same thing, so I don't have a lot of experience with a range of their food. That being said, I find the white bean humus salad excellent! Also, I sometimes treat myself to a cookie or pastry as well; these are made in house and are great across the board. Coffee is great, and the experience of eating at the shared tables inside or the tables on the roof is quite charming. I disagree with a previous review about the pricing. While not the cheapest around, I believe the Mottley Kitchen is offering quality food at reasonable prices. This is not an easy thing to do and they do it well. By far my favorite place in the city, let alone the neighborhood. First, it's so spacious and way less crowded than anything you'd find in Manhattan. Secondly, they know what they're doing. The coffee is on point and the pastries, baked fresh on premises, are to die for. The breakfast sandwiches, don't even get me started; i'm salivating now. This place is so, so good. I was told to visit this place by some friends a few times and finally decided to go. It was in the afternoon and pretty crowded so I had a feeling that I wasn't going to be disappointed. I had a chicken sandwich on a brioche roll with bacon, arugula, white cheddar, and hot honey. There was supposed to be mayo on the sandwich but I hate mayo so it was omitted. The sandwich was pretty good. Next time I will ask for hot sauce because it wasn't spicy enough for me. I ordered a buttermilk biscuit as well. It was okay. I should have asked if it could be warmed and maybe that would have made it a little better. The best thing I had was the butternut squash soup. I would go back everyday for that soup! I discovered this place through Instagram and walked over on one of the nicer winter days. It's a gem in a neighborhood that has been ignored for so long. When you walk in the fragrance of fresh baked goods hits you and warms up your body. The display is so clean and the baked goods are so tempting. On my first visit I had the chicken sandwich. I'm not sure what i expected but it was so good! The seasoning on the chicken and honey on the bread had me licking my fingers. Last week I walked back over there on a Saturday morning to experience their baked items. I couldn't make a decision but decided on a donut and coffee cake muffin. I grabbed a coffee for my husband and a breakfast sandwich too. While I waited I met a neighbor who told me about a community Easter egg hunt for kids that was going to be around the corner. I left full and excited about the rest of the day. When i got home my husband took a bite of his sandwich and loved it. I demolished the coffee cake which was buttery and light. I finally dropped by to try their coffee and wasn't disappointed. It's good to have a place like this around because I'm tired of having the same old Dunkin. I like that they had different milk options too. I also ordered an herb and cheese biscuit which I really enjoyed. I wanted to order their cookies and pound cake but I'll save that for my next visit. Their lattes and food (honestly, anything I've tried from the breakfast bowl, ranchero sandwich to the classic sandwich) have been INCREDIBLE- my favorite thing about this cafe is how beautiful it is and how much culture they convey inside. It's filled with books for children of color, affordable handmade pottery, a diverse staff.. I'm just constantly in awe and proud of this establishment. The staff is always so friendly and the place is always clean. On Saturday they offer reading circles for children in both English and Spanish. It's amazing! This establishment is a great example of how to enter a community and celebrate them while also helping elevate their access to healthy food and options.
