Waited for over 20 minutes in the ADA/ Handicap spot- no one was called from that list... not sure what the point of having it is if they're not going to call anyone from it! Even stood up and held clipboard high above my head and asked if anyone uses the list- couple blank stares- no responses- a lady was going to let me go in front of her but I politely declined because that's not the point I was making.... (Edited) Anyway came back... the regular lines were moving fast- was helped quickly and efficiently but still not sure on the ADA/Handicap line if they even check that list. Relatively painless experience. Took a couple of hours to get our AZ state driver licenses. Rafael and Britney were very nice and helpful. I couldn't believe I was at a DMV. You just need a passport or birth certificate along with your social security card and two pieces of mail to prove residency. Make sure to have your documents and it'll go by smoothly. One thing they need to fix is the phone system. There's a sign up front that says you need an appointment. But no one answers the phone to help you make that appointment. We waited on the line and were seen that day luckily, but they did also say they're two weeks out on appointment availability. Tons of parking, very little seating. read more

Took my daughter here today for her road test for her driver's license. Things have changed a lot since I took my driver's license test! First, go online to the ADOT website and complete the online application for getting your driver's license and choose your appointment time for the road test. When done, save the barcode they give you at the end and bring it with you to the MVD (Save on phone or bring print out). When you get there it is confusing AF. You don't get a ticket anymore. There is a line with a person you have to talk to who then directs you where you need to go OR you check in on the kiosk. We checked in on the kiosk by scanning the barcode from the online application. Now this is where it for tricky because the kiosk tells you to wait for your number to be displayed on a window. This is outdated. You need to go sit in the section where it says "appointments" and they will yell out your number. From then on it was pretty easy! Shout out to Ana who was speedy and cheerful at the same time with getting our paperwork processed. $25 for a travel ID! Boom. Shout out to the super positive lady who did the road test with my daughter today. Everyone we interacted with had positive vibes. The place is old and needs help updating the building's interior, as well as the parking lot roads need repaving. The line system is confusing however we were out of there after about an hour, which isn't terrible. I give them 3 stars for awesome customer service and great attitudes! read more

Well, I came here dreading the lines on a Monday afternoon. Enter time: 3:15 pm, exit time: 3:24 pm. I needed to get my registration up to date, meaning just pay the bill. I walked in at about 3:15 pm, looked over at the express kiosks knowing full well that I could just accomplish my task there. However, I proceeded to wait for another 2 mins or so to speak to the customer service person to ask where I needed to go. She pointed me to the kiosk. I saw that there was 1 other person in front of me now. I waited for another 4 mins or so, went to the kiosk, I put my info and paid using my card and voila, out came my new registration tag! If I had just followed my instincts and if there were better instructions posted, my total time spent at the DMV could have been cut down from 8 mins to maybe 4ish. I would suggest to you DMV- to get better signage which a 3 year old can understand that way there will be absolutely no confusion for people in a hurry. Invest in more self serve kiosks- there were only 3. Overall my experience was pretty good thanks to the express kiosks. Service good too. read more

Call (800) 251-5866 for help over the telephone. You'll actually get to speak with a live person and not an automated system. The appointment line will probably keep you on hold for over 10 minutes, but it could be worse. I made an appointment a few weeks ago before the the holidays. I had to call 2 or 3 times to reschedule and that's when I found out that I needed to get an emissions test in order to register my car in Arizona. Smh, the first person didn't mention that when I originally called to make an appointment. To get an AZ license you will need: your current ID, social security number card OR W-2, passport or birth certificate, and TWO proofs of address like 1) lease agreement and 2) utility bill in your name and showing your full name and residential address. Be prepared to get your picture taken! To register your car/get an AZ license plate you will need: your original pink slip and passed emissions test. This morning I had my 8:00am appointment, showed up just after 8:00am and was done in around 30 minutes. They'll see you without an appointment, but you'll be waiting much longer. Beware of one way in the parking lot. There's more parking behind/around the other side of the building. Pretty easy to find parking in the morning at least. Not many places to sit inside though. This is the first Motor Vehicle place I've ever been to, that plays music and allows people to bring food inside!! WHAT A VIBE. Coming from California, you can have a pretty traumatic view of the DMV..... but not this place here in Arizona The biggest issue for me was that the music was so loud, I could not here the worker trying to help me out. Unfortunately we didn't have all the things to register our cars but we did get our licenses!!! The policy is currently active, however apparently a "new" electronic reporting system is in place (they couldn't tell me when it started or why my physical proof was not sufficient... which negates the ability to show the physical proof. This fat ass bitch came over and was absolutely rude, and told me to have a good day. Didn't not try to help and suggested I come back.. and see if it reports. This lady named Jess (I believe was her name) was the absolute worst. She was very hostile and inhospitable to my cousin who was there to take her license. She didn't let me through the easiest door to quickly pass my the insurance and registration. Her tone of voice was as if she had better things to do than to give you your drivers test. Jess also had an incredible amount miscommunication first saying to pull up to the front (not specifying who) and then yelling at us that the driver should be alone and that pulling up was a part of the test. I moved here in March of 2021 and kept putting it off until my car registration was expiring on the day of. I was really upset thinking of wasting a whole day here. Jokes on me! I was in and out in about 30 min. With out an appointment. Courteous employees from the front door to the 2 clerks that helped me. I have to say I cannot stand going to this place. No one is friendly or nice. Everyone that I had to deal with appeared to want to run for their lives and get out of there or just drop dead from boredom. These people who work at this place are so unhappy it almost wants to make you tear your hair out. I do not like sitting in a dirty waiting room waiting for these fools to call my number so that I can experience more of their bad attitude. You know, there isn't a DMV on the planet that gets me excited about living.They're typically a disgruntled bunch, but in their defense, they often deal with a bunch of people who aren't very respectful or fun to be around... In my opinion, the small size of this place actually helps them with their efficiency. The first time I went in, I was greeted as I entered (they literally have someone who just tells you where to go-- which is probably unnecessary, but it was a nice touch). And then... the computer systems went down in the entire state, so they sent us all away. SUPER. But, that wasn't their specific issue. They issued us free line pass cards for those already being helped and I returned. They are pretty efficient... for a DMV. Don't consider a weekend-- not an option. read more

There is a person to direct the process in the line, to tell you where what line to stand in or what desk to go to. Going to the DMV (or perhaps it's called MVD now?) is never something I look forward to. As a matter of fact, I pretty much dread it and procrastinate it as much as possible. This was the case over the last few weeks. I finally decided to legally change my last name (five years into marriage). Step two of the process was a visit to the DMV to get a new license. I found a time in my schedule on a Wednesday morning that I could make work, and I went for it. I figured it couldn't take more than an hour to do so, or could it? It sure could... it was a slow day for them, according to the woman that I worked with, after I was called to window 18 to get my new photo taken. Even on a supposedly "slow day," it still took me over an hour and a half to get in and out... No one seemed happy to be working there (or to be visiting there), but I guess that's part of the reason that it's not a fun place to go. You get what you expect - nothing more and nothing less. Take a driving test, register a vehicle, get a new license, do what you need to do... the fine folks at this office will take care of you, just make sure you have all of the documentation prior, and make sure you're not on a tight schedule. All of that being said, I'm glad that part / my visit is done. Now onto the next steps of the name change! read more

Going to the MVD used to be something that was almost viewed as a threat to one's life. It meant that you'd live at the MVD for an entire day without food, water, facilities, and would be swamped with boredom and suicidal thoughts. Today the MVD is much easier to palette. To start off, if you go online you can see the amount of people in line as well as the estimated wait time. You can do this for the MVD office as well as emissions testing (they even have cameras at the emissions testing place). In my experience, the times are fairly accurate. When I arrived I noted the time the website said. Website says 11mins, 16 people in line at 8:57am. I was called to my first window (to retake my licence photo) at 9:05am. I was called to my final window at 9:12am. I was out of the parking lot before 9:30am. Website estimated time: 11mins Time to final window: 15mins. Pretty damn good! As for the people complaining about the "randomness" of the number calling. If you actually observed you'd understand that all the numbers are called in order, i.e. A-001, A-002, A-003, etc. while at the same time other prefixes may be on different numbers... T-041... So you might hear D-123, A-009, T-014, etc but that doesn't mean that they are going out of order... it simply means that different jobs categories are being processed. I had an "A" which I assume is for general tasks such as renewing licences. Other letters probably mean vehicle inspections, legal, licence testing, etc. Also, something else that is nice is that you can do the paperwork at home and print off a "barcode" and take it there and just give it to the clerk so they don't have to type anything in. They just scan and then do the other tasks that are actually needed aside from typing. So here is my suggestions: (1) Leave your attitude at home. You're dealing with the red-tape queen - the government. Everyone is in this together, including the workers. (2) Don't expect to be in and out on your lunch break. This isn't Jimmy Johns serving you a sub. (3) Come with your cell phone charged up to read the news or watch YouTube or a good-old fashioned book. (4) Do as much paperwork at home and bring in the printout. (5) Check the website to see the wait time. Sometimes if you drive a little further than your normal office you can save a lot of time. read more

Don't recomentd at all. I am currently serving in the US military and had asked about what I should do about my plates for going on active orders. I was given very bland information and felt like the woman that was helping me was being rude to me and not understanding of my young age to help lead me through some steps so i can go on about my day. I just moved here and have had some issues getting my license, I was told to go here showed her everything vs trying to be a help she simples goes we can't help you and turns her head saying they help only in state. I have been coming to this exact same DMV since I got my learner's permit at age 15 and I can honestly say, things have 100% improved! In the past, it wasn't uncommon to wait 2 hours to be helped. NOW, there is an INCREDIBLE guy (I wish that I knew his name!) who I've seen the past few times working the lines/flow and let me tell you, he is SO great for the job. I've been in a lot lately due to selling a car, buying a car, transferring titles, and my name change after our wedding and each time, he has been there with a big smile and SUPER helpful. Not only that, he makes sure that everyone is totally taken care of while somehow managing to keep things moving smoothly! Each time, I haven't waited more than 30 minutes to get what I came for! I also love that they have machines now to renew your registration (they literally print the sticker right there!) so you can literally do it in MINUTES and it has gotten rid of a MAJOR piece of what caused the long lines in the past. Anywho, i'm impressed with what they've done here and will not be as reluctant to come to the DMV like I was in the old days! read more

I was expecting the worst coming from California, where you book an appointment weeks in advance or just go to AAA. However, I waltzed in around 4 pm and they took care of me right away. Filled out a one-paged application and promptly received my new license, plate, and title a little over 45 minutes later. Everyone was in a good mood due to the holidays. Since it wouldn't be a Yelp review without throwing in veiled criticism, it was a little hard to find even with a GPS. They could have put up a sign on Larkspur leading to the entrance. read more
