I know there are a lot of mixed reviews about this place, but from Mt experience, I'd give 5 stars. I got fried chicken elsewhere but wanted soul food sides, so I got candid yams, macaroni, and greens. They were all so good. The greens had ribs falling off the bone in them, so they weren't from the can, as i know some people said on here in the reviews. The macaroni was homemade, and candid yams had good flavor. This review is for the deli. It was fantastic! We stopped by after landing at DTW airport and were heading out of town and found this place on Yelp (of course). We pulled up on a rainy holiday (they were open) and thought it may be a little sketch for a deli. But many times, those can be the best places. My wife and I both ordered Turkey Reubens. It seemed to take forever to prepare - and then discovered they were grilled. The end result was awesome! The perfect combination between meat, cheese and sauerkraut. Ordered 1/4 smothered chicken, received way more than that [3 thighs, 3 legs] with greens and dressing and cornbread thrown in. Service was good. Everything was salted to an extreme. Greens were not edible due to the amount of salt. All I could taste was salt. The rice under the chicken was mushy and overcooked. The dressing was mushy and bland, no flavor, tasted like wet cornbread. Chicken was okay, salty. Gravy and cornbread were good. I think my blood pressure rose from the salt after the first bites. Whoa the word pleasantly surprised is an understatement.... I pass by this place often and I always see people coming in and out but because it just says "meats" on the outside I never thought it was a soul food restaurant....BUT THEN one day I noticed a small sign underneath the "meat market" sign that said "soul food" so I thought maybe I'll try them out.... Very sketchy on the outside but Omg the soul food was absolutely DELICIOUS!!! I got the half slab dinner with Mac n Cheese and Sweet potatoes, the ribs were perfect - ALL MEAT, no fat or gristle and very well prepared not too charred or over cooked....perfect sauce, not too sweet not too salty, actually tasted homemade as well! The mac n cheese was nice, soft and CHEEZY and the sweet potatoes were NOT FROM THE CAN! Something I appreciate seeing how hard it is to find soul food places that actually make their sides FROM SCRATCH, not from CANS!!! My only disappointment was that they didn't throw in a piece of cornbread with my food after reading the reviews and hearing about how good their corn bread was I should've made sure I asked for some but I figured it came with the meal...it's all good, I WILL be back anyways so I'll catch it next time! read more

I am writing this review regarding the peach cobbler. I was very disappointed on 08/09/23. The cobbler crust was not light. It was thick and had no flavor. The peaches and juice were tart and had a flavor that was very unpleasant. Too much of some spice. May have been allspice or nutmeg. I am not sure which spice. I have had peach cobbler from them previously and it was very good. There was no consistency. It's great having a soul food restaurant in the area. Please be consistent. AJR read more

When walking in the door, however, that entire thought was erased... Well stocked meat display cases, cheese/deli meat counter towards the back of the store, fully stocked coolers with pasta salads, dips, basic groceries, pop, milk & juice, some veggies, chips, sauces and other cooking needs in the center of the store & rotisserie chicken by the front door... They also carry a wide array of Michigan made products, some of which include Better Made & Dearborn Sausage. Motor City Meats has a little bit of everything, and may even have the affect to make you buy more than you came in for! I know, because it happened to me! They even make deli sandwiches and burgers while you wait!! The staff is friendly & courteous, and Matt, the owner is the epitome of customer service! Always good food coming out of this place. I can't say about the deli (which I hear is good) or ordering cuts (from the inside it looks like they're all out... like you come in and they'll say to you "We're all out"). The meals are always plentiful and priced well for the area. Brisket could use a bit more flavor and the sides go quick, but its always a good place to visit for a quick fix. read more

I have been looking for a decent butcher for a long while in this area and I was excited when I saw the sign go up. That excitement was well founded! We have been going here for our meat for the last few months and have ZERO complaints. The staff is fantastic. The service is great. Everybody has a smile and it translates well in all aspects. The meat though... Just go buy some and try it. The chops had to have been fresh off the saw and the steaks were so tender we cut them with a fork. Their chicken breasts lacked the half a cup of goo that is common from the grocery store. I will have a hard time going elsewhere in the future, but am glad that I currently don't have to! So after a few months in which times got harder, I returned to MCM to find a shell of what it once was. The meat selection was poor for a weekend morning. The saddest was the vacuum packed slab of ribs on display as if it was something special. Ever since Matt left, this place has gone downhill. I don't get it. The selection is 1/3 what i tr was. I want to see trays of ground meat not pre packaged selections like I get at the big stores. No thawed fish. When I asked I was told it was in the freezer. When I said I wanted already unfrozen I was told "It only take a few minutes to thaw in water." So I waste my water and time. Nope. The food at this establishment was awful. I ordered the steak. The steak was burnt to the point It wasn't edible. The onions and green peppers that was an add on came back with just onions. The person preparing the plate was so confused. In attempt to hurry up the service she began to scrape the metal pan of macaroni and cheese. I asked her can we get a fresh pan of Mac and cheese. Since moving to Belleville a few years ago, we've been on a quest to find a meat market we could count on. Thank goodness Motor Meats came along to fill that void! My husband shops there twice per month and stocks up on a variety of the freshest meats. He especially loves their homemade dips and goes crazy when they have whitefish pate' in. Everyone is always very nice. The store is clean and well stocked. It may sound like a simple things to love having a meat market nearby. Motor City Meats is reportedly under new ownership so their menu has changed quite a bit, but I am very very impressed with them so far! The staff is very friendly and courteous, and best of all the food is fantastic. I had the corned beef sandwich and my only regret is that I didn't get another one. Today we purchased fresh chicken from the meat counter which was good. The problem was with the rib tips purchased from the kitchen which were so tough they were not chewable. They had a good taste and the sauce was good. Unless they are cooked better I will stick to buying from the meat counter. read more

Motor City Meats has a great selection of high-quality Foods. I grab the Tomahawk Steak today for 22 bucks and that's pretty cheap in my book! Also grab some New York strip some in-house made sausages and a few burgers. This place is going to do great! What a nice and very clean butcher. The staff is friendly and extremely helpful. They have a small freezer section, the sandwich counter is toward the back with lovely looking meats and cheeses, and a nice selection to choose from. They offer a small grocery aisle, and a refrigerated wall filled with cold drinks and house made salads. The quality of the meat is fantastic, a bit pricey but the convenience of having this market nearby makes up for it. Plus you pay for quality, which I'm happy to do. They make their own sausages (onion & potato was the bomb) in several different combinations, don't miss out on these. They take orders for fresh turkeys and I can't wait to pick up our bird for the holiday. They also have a heated table with rotisserie chicken and wings, which have the most wonderful seasoning. This is my favorite place to buy bacon, brisket, burgers, (gouda + mushroom!) and sausages (cherry pecan!) - such a huge selection and my dogs love the marrow bones I bring home from here. Reasonable prices on fresh cut meat and he sells beer, desserts and grocery items too. You also have the option of grabbing a deli sandwich while you're there, from the menu or build-your-own. The Jamaican selection taste nothing like real Jamaican food at all. The jerk sauce is so far away from real Jamaican jerk sauce it's not even funny. It don't even have the color let alone the taste lol it's supposed to be made with allspice berries and Scotch bonnets soy sauce and a few other things. The rice didn't even taste like it had coconut milk in it. It's definitely not Jamaican I wouldn't say the food is nasty but it's really really far from Jamaican Cuisine. Review for Real McCoy BBQ - Super disappointed. I drive by twice a day and can smell the delicious smoker and couldn't wait to try some really good smoked meat. I went in Friday night and order the beef brisket dinner and the 4 pc fried chicken dinner. First the bad - the beef brisket was the toughest brisket I have ever eaten, It had no flavor, no smoke, the only thing I could taste was the bbq sauce that was drenching it. There were no smoke rings, no good charred strips, the meat was tough and nasty. I threw it out after trying about 3 very chewy bites. I ordered green beans and the baked spaghetti as my two side with this dish. I can't review the spaghetti, because they didn't give me any, instead I got the yams. Don't like yams, gross. Better - The fried chicken was definitely better than the beef, however I have never gotten a 4 pc dinner that didn't include a breast??? This one had 2 thighs, a wing and a drum stick, my mistake for not asking. It was very flavorful. But wished for a breast. This ones sides were green beans and mac & cheese. Mac and Cheese - super disappointed in this too. It had no flavor, cheesy or otherwise. Green beans - the highlight of the dinner. Really really good, great flavor. They only item I would order again unless they offer fried chicken breasts. The best part of the experience were the employees. I used to work here. When I was here, they were ALWAYS fully stocked and had butcher's to cut if something was lacking. Today, not only did they have an empty display case but the sign that says "If you don't see your cut of meat we will gladly cut it for you"... Hahaha.. That's a lie. Their butcher wasn't there. Fraud! My mother picked up two fillets for her birthday dinner. She brought them home and they were definitely *not* fillets. One was a trim piece from the loin that was covered in fat, and one was the bottom of the loin. Yeah, that's the part of the cow where the fillet comes from, but they were definitely *not* fillet cuts. The trim piece was rolled up to where if you weren't looking closely it looked like a fillet. So basically, they're trying to pass off inferior cuts of meat. This is dishonest and underhanded, and my family will no longer give these people our money. read more

I'm only giving this place a one star because the owner ( Matt ) retirement. There's the story . I usually go to the norm's market to get my meats cause it right around the block from me on Wayne rd. But I saw this place and decided to give it a try. Matt ( the owner ) met me at the door and asked my name and was more than happy to help me pick the best meat for the holidays plus give me info on things I could make for side. Wow this guy is good so now I make sure to go back as much as possible and yes Matt remembered my name every time which I found out later he remembered all his customers names. Which now you know my disappointment when I called in a order ( Matt would have my meat packaged waiting on my arrival when I did this ) to find out from a employee that Matt has retired and the meat ( prime ribs) was prime FAT ! Since The departure of the previous owner is no longer there I will not return to his place ever again. It's sad cause I spent a lot of money in this place weekly just to see this place go down hill.
