This spot goes crazy with the Sandwiches. The menu is huge and each item slaps. Prices are decent and they don't skip out on the ingredients. I ordered the #8 Kevins Bacon. I also had the chance to try their reuben. Man! Flavors make you wanna hum. Customer service is very much "Detroit". You get what you get. I have been wanting to try this place for a while now and I finally made it there. After reading the mixed reviews I wanted to check it out. The wall of plastic you order through is a bit off putting. I wanted to get the pastrami but I had no idea that was build your own pick. I should have gotten the corned beef. The pastrami was delicious I just don't think I chose the right toppings. Served with crispy deli pickles. I also ordered the deviled eggs but was sad to see them tossed in the bag upside down; very messy and hard to eat they had a nice sweet flavor. The main problem is the cleanliness or lack thereof. It could use a deep deep cleaning. Also there are people hustling to get your dollars. A guy was selling one stick of incense for $5. I had read online that this was the place to go for corned beef. Well we tried the pastrami today and I'm sorry to say I won't be going back. The meat seemed very low quality and I was not impressed at all. Nothing like Slymans in Cleveland. I could have overlooked the pretty much filthy condition of the dining room and the sketchy people trying to sell you incense if the food was good. i have been a long time customer of lou's. starting going there in 9 th grade of high school. it was a real deli where people lined up to get a seat & a meal the corned beef taste like potted meat in a can and they try trick you into thinking a super duper or large sandwich is as advertised when they are deceiving you with much less. this what they tried to pass off as a super duper. i as not having this. requested my money back & they made another sandwich after having to ask fir management. this is the 2nd tie in a year and the 2nd location. i think this is fraud and embezzlement. read more

Visited Detroit over Memorial Day and was taken to Lou's. My friend is a Detroiter and ordered their usual. As I listened to her order, I read the menu and got overwhelmed. Lots and lots of options. My friend told them I was a newbie, and they announced to the cooks that I was a newbie and promised to take care of me. The hostess helped me decide on a toasted Reuben on Rye with Russian dressing. This sandwich was one of the best I ever had. I've been thinking about it and told my wife about it. The next time I go to Detroit, this is a "must stop" place. Lou's one of Detroit's renown places to try a corn beef sandwich Detroit style. The sandwiches are big enough for two to eat especially if you order it with extra meat. Please also bring your wallet, the sandwiches are also pretty pricey, starting around $16. The service is never great and the restaurant atmosphere is pretty cold and generic, but the sandwiches are still pretty tasty. In last years I've noticed the meat is a bit salty so go generous on the Russian dressing or add coleslaw on your sandwich. It gives a nice balance to even out the salt. Lastly if you've never had a corn beef on an onion roll, I'd suggest you try it. It's my favorite. Try one of these three the dinty Moore, the counterman's or my personal favorite David's drip. Lou's did not disappoint! Their corned beef was very juicy and they give you a nice portion size. We also had the wings and fries. The wings were seasoned to perfection! Everything was cooked fresh. I have always said, if you ranked the top 10 corned beef sandwiches in the U.S. Lou's would be a solid 10 and whatever was the next best, wouldn't matter where, what State, to give Lou's it's proper respect, there wouldn't be a location getting a 9, 8 or even a 7. I would give the 2nd best corned beef sandwich after Lou's that I've ever had a 6.5, at best. I think people in Detroit have just been too spoiled for too long! First off, let me start on saying that I love Lou's but I just recently had a visit when I went in around nine 10 o'clock at night I purchased two egg rolls and a lemonade which came all up to $15 or some change when I receive my egg rolls I took them and went and stead of checking my food which I should have, but my egg rolls were very cold not hot at all. First time visiting today. I was in the area and needed lunch, so I thought I'd give Lou's a try. Don't come here for the ambiance. It's a bit run down inside and kinda sketchy outside, but I was quite pleased with the food. I was a walk-in around 2pm and waited about five minutes, which is reasonable. I ordered the Counterman (#38), which is corned beef, Swiss, Cole slaw and Russian dressing on your choice of bread. I opted for toasted rye. The meat was pretty lean, which I like, so I'm glad I didn't pay extra for all-lean. Good meat-to-slaw ratio and just enough dressing for flavor but not so much that it's dripping everywhere. Onion rings were crisp and the onions didn't slide out of the breading when I took a bite (I hate that). I got a medium lemonade, which is from a mix or concentrate, I think. The size is smaller than I expected, about 16oz. I would prefer fresh lemonade, but what they have is fine. They have signs up asking customers to wear masks, which most of them were, but none of the staff are. It's not cheap to eat here, though. Sandwiches are around $10-12. I paid $18 for a sandwich, onion rings and a medium drink. All in all, I was pleased with my order and I'll plan to stop by again the next time I'm in the neighborhood. read more

Alright, I've been here twice and I can finally write a review. The first visit, I wasn't sure what to get, so I ended up getting the special, which is corned beef on rye with med fries and small drink. I wasn't sure what to think of the special... the corned beef and the mustard didn't go well, at least to my taste bud. However, the corned beef was excellent and I enjoyed the order. The 2nd visit was carryout, I stopped by to pick up the food and headed to Ann Arbor. Unfortunately, the food doesn't travel well long distance. I had ordered the #40 - Reuben on Rye and #41 - June's Jammin' on Rye, order of large fries, onion rings and 3 orders of cornedbeef rolls (stuffed with corned beef, coleslaw and Swiss cheese). When I got home (45 minutes distance), the sandwich was shaped in balls unfortunately. The sandwiches were cut in half (in diagonal) and the way the sandwiches were placed in the bag didn't help. So if you are ordering takeout, ask them not to cut the sandwich and double check the bag to ensure that the sandwich is flat at the bottom the bag. Both sandwich was good, the corned beef and pastrami was excellent, the only draw back to the sandwich - I wasn't a fan of the extra bread between the meat and veggie. If you dine in and they allow, ask them to take the middle bread out. I didn't have any issues with services and I would highly recommend that you dine-in to truly enjoy the flavors of the sandwich. We got a corned beef sandwich on an onion roll, turkey Reuben, fries, cheesecake, a chocolate cake slice and a pineapple upside down cake slice. The corned beef was very good. The turkey Reuben was extremely salty and almost inedible. The fries were soggy and not very fresh. The cheesecake was fine but the cakes were so dry the texture was almost sandy- we took a couple bites and tossed them. Was pretty disappointing because the cakes there used to be amazing. I stopped by Lou's Deli today (on McNichols) and ordered a mini cornbeef on an onion roll to go. I was so looking forward to eating the sandwich. I live in Romulus but I always stop at Lou's to purchase their delicious sandwiches. This time was different; the sandwich had about a scoop of cornbeef on the roll with a little dab of mustard, The cornbeef did not reach the edge of the roll. The roll was just "slapped" together. I have been a customer of Lou's for 20+ and never had any complaints about any of their menus. I noticed that there was only one adult working behind the counter and 3 young adult men working there. I was very disappointed with my order and hope this don't become a normal practice. I enjoy patronizing Lou's when I visit Detroit. I hope this situation doesn't happen again. read more
