If you close at 2:30 why are the doors locked at 2am and the phone is off the hook. This is very discouraging and I don't like it

    Needs a cleaning.

I had read online that this was the place to go for corned beef. Well we tried the pastrami today and I'm sorry to say I won't be going back. The meat seemed very low quality and I was not impressed at all. Nothing like Slymans in Cleveland. I could have overlooked the pretty much filthy condition of the dining room and the sketchy people trying to sell you incense if the food was good. We ordered deviled eggs too and they put them upside down in the bag. There are so many great places to eat in the Detroit area, but this is not one of them.

i have been a long time customer of lou's. starting going there in 9 th grade of high school. it was a real deli where people lined up to get a seat & a meal the corned beef taste like potted meat in a can and they try trick you into thinking a super duper or large sandwich is as advertised when they are deceiving you with much less. this what they tried to pass off as a super duper. i as not having this. requested my money back & they made another sandwich after having to ask fir management. this is the 2nd tie in a year and the 2nd location. i think this is fraud and embezzlement.

I tried to make it edible by adding sour cream, but who am I kidding? NEVER again, will I order loaded potato skins... Wtf I'M GOOD!!!

The portion of food provided is not adequate for the price charged. The food appearance is not the most appealing.

I didn't know they served beer and wine, which was nice to have with your sandwich. I wanted to try the Muffaletta. My only issue with the sandwich is that the Portella mushrooms took away from it, rather than enhancing the flavor. I can't believe the place is still here after all of these years. There are 2 types of subs here: Italian, and "Other Subs", so you know that this shop sprang from the vibrant Italian community that once populated Detroit. The Italian Subs at Gonella's are ordered according to how many layers it builds up (which I think is a unique concept). These layered Gonella Italian Subs are layered with a variety of Italian meats (Hard Salami, Salami Cotto, Mortadella, Smoked Ham and Capicola), provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions & Gonella's homemade dressing. Soft sub buns, tons of stacks of meat, lettuce and tomato or not. No one goes hungry after a sub here. Some deli spots tend to skimp on the protein, but not this place. My team members favorite is the Italian, 6 stacks. I usually will go for a turkey or chicken stack. They offer up to 18 stacks, haven't tried that yet.

We also got the special spices etc. I do prefer a more of an Italian sandwich on a hard roll, so I'm not sure the soft onion roll is for me. I had the 2 meats (turkey and turkey pastrami) with everything sans pickles plus love spice on an onion roll. I'm beyond satisfied and it was divine! The price was reasonable for a deli sandwich at $10 before tax and 4% card fee. I usually go for corned beef at the deli, but this was a leaner yet equally tasty option in an attempt to be more health conscious. Needless to say, I'll be back! Thanks, ladies!
