A little of a side note... I called these guys about a repair on my skim board, which is off best from the awesome sk8boards and snow boards I saw in their store. My nephew took my skim board to Newport Beach in So Cal. He was riding a bike to the beach while trying to carry my skim board. He dropped it and nose dived it into the street putting a nice gash in the reisin/ fiberglass coating. He carried onto the beach and still had a great time on the board. I brought it in to Motion Boardshop and they did a kick ass job getting it sealed back up. I love this shop!!! I have popped in before curious about what the motion was about. I rented a board for a week. Which was awesome but also made me realize that I needed to evolve from my first board from zumies... ahem.. Still on my to do list. This weekend my mission was to get my son fitted with a real board for his 14th birthday. He had worked so hard to buy a board and got swindled by a Walmart board... this wasn't going to work. I will not have my son go over a speed bump and bust his teeth over the board not holding up. The quality was risky to say the least. So Cj walked us through picking out the perfect deck and wheels. To the trucks and bearings. Then he carved out a bamboo style as he placed the deck tape. He was very attentive and thorough making sure it was going to be a great fit. He even helped figure out the perfect fit for a helmet. I will be back for my board next! Oh and the wrap design for the bottom of the deck is going through here too. It's still in the works! Being a newbie to Long boarding I wasn't sure where to go to find a good board, so that I could take up the sport. After talking to some friends, and being laughed at here and there for joining the ranks of teens. Finally got advised to try the board shop in Lake Forest Park. It's a small shop but has everything you need for skateboarding, long boarding, surfing, or kite boarding. The people inside were the run of the mill snowboard/skateboard bums but very enthusiastic about life and their jobs. Great set up and as always, they had the flat screen playing looped snowboarding and skateboarding spills and thrills. I ended up being helped by a 14 year old that knew so much about the sport and was so confident about his sales pitch, I put my life in his hands! He knew the answer to every question I asked and answered without hesitation. The other guy there sitting at the register was pointing us in the right direction with new long boarding website information and where to go locally to avoid the fuzz! Ended up being sold into a $350.00 setup. Not a typical setup but worth every penny! The guy really knew what he was talking about when setting me up, asked me what I like and do not like and then made it happen with the board, trucks, bushings, and wheels. Makes me feel like I'm snowboarding on concrete, I mean the board rides on rails. The Burke-Gilman trail that runs around Lake Washington runs right by the shop and you can go out and try out different boards on the trail too. Love this place! I will be going again and again with any long boarding questions or purchases. read more

My husband was a skater back in his day. With our move, he now walks the dogs more. He's now got an interest in boards again, longboards this time. He'd heard good things about Motion Boardshop. Unfortunately, it isn't very conveniently located to us so he hadn't had a chance to head over to check it out. Then on Sunday, when we headed over to Beth's Cafe for dinner, we noticed it. We decided if it was open we'd stop by. Lo and behold, the neon open sign was lit, so we stopped in. Turns out, their hours said they'd closed 35 minutes before we pulled up. But the door was unlocked and in we went, oblivious. The lady (owner?) greeted us and helped us look at boards and wheels and trucks for 20 or 30 minutes, much to my kids's dismay. (They were ready to head to dinner.) We had a lovely discussion about dog-boarding, my husband's planned use of the board, which is important to know when selecting the proper board. When I realized we were there past hours, she said it was no problem. She also answered phone calls several times and told someone else she'd be there for a little while longer even though they were technically closed. The boards are priced in line with other places. Due to staying open for us, helping us with such good cheer, and knowledge, Motion Boardshop gets 5 stars. When my husband finally decides to get his longboard, he'll probably get it there. read more

I wandered in an hour to close knowing very little about longboarding other than having had a blast longboarding twice over the last month with a buddy. Sales person (CJ?) was super knowledgeable, helpful, and without any snotty attitude toward all my basic questions. I went to Motion Boardshop not knowing what to expect seeing as I'm a 40 year old newbie to the sport of longboarding. I was expecting sneers and unbridled judgment from all the kids I was likely to run into while I was there. I was pleasantly surprised, however. Yes, the place was packed with teens and the sales staff seemed super young as you would expect, but everyone was totally cool to me. It didn't matter that I was older - I was made to feel as if I were already a part of the longboarding community, regardless of my age. None of my questions were dumb and they really took time to help me determine the best setup for the style of skating I wanted to do. I was there for about an hour and a half while my board was being setup, and I have to say, it was the most fun experience I've had purchasing anything in a very long time. I met the owner Jason the other day and he told me that they really do try to make everyone feel welcome, from newbies such as myself to pro boarders. I walked in there talked to the guys for about a half hour came back the next day with even more questions and walked out with a new longboard. They took the time to find out what I knew, which wasn't much, and set me up with the right longboard for a beginner. I felt really comfortable buying from these guys they're really nice, patient, and not pushy at all. I went back yesterday with a small issue on my board they took care of it right away. I came in looking just for some speed rings for my board. I just saw the owner when he was leaving to shop some things. Garret helped by just picking up a bunch of spares that were behind the counter on the floor. I know these only cost a buck or so for a set, but it was cool to just hook me up with them. He then showed me a bunch of crazy longboards and new shapes I've never seen before. I'm just an old school street skater turned transition with age, so the longboard thing really isn't my style but they had tons of local and big name options. Lots of crazy trucks, wheels, and bearing that I had never seen either. I snowboard a lot more than I skate and Garett was a boarder too. I noticed the local slash boards and another I can't remember, they also had Jones too. He was saying they were hoping to have more brands next season. He was so chill and knowledgable I decided to get a basic tune from them even though I could have done it myself. I usually buy from super online sale shiit, yet the next skateboard or snowboard I buy will probably be from them to support a cool spot. Do you longboard? Do you kite board? Then go no further. This place has an amazing selection, it's local, and the people are super knowledgeable. They have ridden most everything in the store and will be free and open with opinions. I have had good experiences every time I have gone in, even if it's just to look around at the stock. While i haven't been riding long, I am very familiar with boards and styles of riding. These people won't BS you and convince you for something you don't want. Tell 'em what kind of riding you plan on doing, and they can build a board to suit your needs. Comparatively snowboard connection has some stock as well as REI, zumiez or pac-sun. These places tend to be limited to a few different styles of wheel or board. Snow-con has gotten better, however they still aren't quite at the level of expertise and care that motion provides. read more

Being an older guy (cough cough) who skate boarded back in the day, I recently had the weird compunction to try boarding again. Don't ask why, but nearest I can explain, while I love biking, boarding to me has always seemed more nitty gritty, more... punk. There, I said it. Ha ha. When I went in to Motion I was pleasantly surprised at the level of acceptance by the kids who seemed genuine in their advice. Yeah, I made a few self-deprecating jokes, they laughed, but at the end of the day, they were very helpful. Typical BAD board shop!! There are 5 workers in a little bitty room with barely any product. The staff was just a group of unfriendly, uninterested, unhelpful, and inflated ego rich kids. Don't spoil them more by putting your money in their hands for their over priced products. Why do all skate shops have the worst customer service?! It is like they don't want you there. And their selection is AWEFUL!! What do you guys have to be cocky about? I got better customer service and product selection at EVO. If you don't like EVO, for some weird reason, just buy your skateboards and snowboards online. So I'm a little late to the yelp/reviewing game here. However I will do my very best to provide a good account of the service provided! Motion Boardshop has been my go-to vendor for all of my skating needs for quite some time now. I live way out in Hawaii so I don't have any really big skate shops or dealers around here. Thus I must rely on my online shops! And my oh my does Motion have their online experience perfected. They have live chat with people at the shop who are very knowledgeable in their areas and who's opinions you can trust, price match guarantee to make sure that you're getting the product for the cheapest you possibly can, and they always make sure that your order goes out right and that you're okay with anything done with your order. If a certain item that you ordered can't be sent to you at that time they'll call you and ask what you would like to do whether it be waiting until the item is back in stock or simply replacing it with another item. They are just extremely dedicated to their customers and their satisfaction. I like them so much that when on a trip to the Seattle area I made a point to make a trip out to their shop myself. And I have to say their in-store customer service is just as good if not better than the online service. I've ordered many many things from them and I plan on continuing to do so as I continue skating. When my son became interested in long boards, I thought it was going to be super intimidating to go into this specialty store. I only had my painful memories of his previous skateboard phase and having to endure the mall store with their overly cocky, über-coiffed sales staff--heavily promoting their retail item of the day, before FINALLY making the trek to the back counter of skate gear. Consultations about products were barely audible because of the blaring music and equally loud employees and customers surrounding us, all trying to compete with the noise. In desperation, I'd just go with whatever was said, just to be able to get out of there as quickly as possible! My experience at Motion was bliss in comparison: A large selection of products (decks, wheels, trucks, safety gear), all prominently displayed. Plenty of space to actually mount and try-out demo decks. No feelings of being rushed into a sale. Most importantly, their personable employees are passionate about the activity themselves that they have the product-knowledge to effectively educate you. No hidden agendas-- they truly want you to succeed and sustain your interest in this sport. Oh, and if they don't have something in stock, they will gladly order and price-match what you want. Also worth mentioning: I had to return a couple of items, and a refund was given without any complications or pressures to use as in-store credit.
