Meth pipe in my hotel room
Jenny P.

I've stayed here several times in the last year and the first time I had a pleasant experience with a clean room and a decent price and they are pet friendly but I stayed here a couple weeks ago and my room was full of gnats which I overlooked although they were really bad and then Came the big giant cock roaches crawling out from underneath the bed at that point I called the front desk they came they seen the roaches and they moved me to a different room so that room I didn't have any bugs other than flies but then the maid came I was going to stay here two days mind you have made comes the second day and I thankfully had the latch closed. She knocked I told her I'll be right there and I was very sick so took me a minute to get to the door I haven't even gotten up yet out of the bed and I said just a minute I'm coming and she proceeds to open the door I said I told you I'll be right there She still standing there with the door open talking to me and asked me if I'm staying I said yes I'm staying I've already arranged it with the front desk no please close the door because I was naked in my bed sitting on the bed naked and she wouldn't close the door she kept trying to talk to me at that point I had to scream shut the fu**ing door!! She gets mad and slams the door and immediately my room phone rang and it was the front desk asking me what's going on because I guess they could hear it or see it on the cameras I don't know I told her she said she was having that made talk to the manager and they offered me a discount if I wanted to stay at that point I had planned on staying but after all this I said you know what no I'm not staying so they offered me a discount on my next day so I came through town again yesterday And I thought OK I'll give them another chance and use my discount I had tonight I was saying before I get here the room smells weird I have my granddaughter with me and she says grandma smells weird in here and she starts looking through everything like a teenager would do and we found a crack pipe right next to the bed and I immediately call the front desk tell them someone has just been in this room smoking meth and left their pipe and I don't I'm not gonna stay in this room so they move me to another room and then I come in here and the toilets plugged I will never stay at this place again and I really really wish I would've just got my money back and not spent the second night. I see all kinds of tweakers and homeless people all around here! Sad

Wow. Thought I was slumming it tonight. This by far is the nicest 6 I've stayed in. (Try to avoid usually, but this I'll keep in my list) I'm in a single, huge spacious room, fridge, microwave, soft chair and and king size bed.

Front office is awesome! Motels have me cringing at times, but for the price and location it's a nice option.

There is BLACK MOLD all over the bathroom. Smells like it has not been cleaned or wiped down. There are Holes in the wall. Unacceptable.

We were pleasantly surprised. Clean, new(ish) and a staff that was helpful and positive. Far exceeded my expectations for the chain.

Joy is such a wonderful person, always smiling and accommodating unlike the other chubby front desk which is mean.

I wish customer service existed here. I booked this hotel for family for a funeral. I called the…read morefron desk and asked for some help with my reservation, Yolanda, told me she was having issues with her system and to call back in 15 min. Rather than take my information and call me back. She made me call. So I did. I called back and asked about my reservation since I was experiencing issues - I got Yolanda again with her supervisor in the background and me on the speaker phone. I explained the story once again, Yolonda asked how I booked. I explained directly through Holiday Inn Express. She told me she couldn't do anything and that I had to "call them directly" or fix my issue through the app. I seriously questioned this comment since they are the front desk and oversee the reservations and I was more confused when she (and the supervisor) told me I needed fix it through the app. Still confused, I didn't under why they couldn't help me. They told me to add another person to the reservation to resolve me. I told them I tried to but I couldn't. They said again, "you'll have to call us directly or fix it through the app". The supervisor in the background was loud enough that Yolanda didn't have to repeat back instructions. Yolanda was ready to get off the phone since she told me "I'm almost off for the day and I won't be able to assist". I said "never mind I'll figure it, maybe I'll just cancel and try again" I called IHG customer service and spoke with Amy, she at least tried to help me. Amy ended up calling the front desk at the hotel and explained the situation. Somehow miraculously Yolanda and the supervisor were able to fix my reservation. Amy was also confused why they didn't want to help me or fix the situation directly. I would not return here or recommend this location. Save your stress.

Serious Security Breach and a Staff That Doesn't Understand Guest Safety…read more My experience at the Residence Inn Modesto was nothing short of alarming. I had a Do Not Disturb sign clearly displayed on my door, yet the hotel staff entered my room anyway. This isn't a housekeeping mix‑up -- it's a direct breach of personal security and a complete disregard for guest safety. When I raised the issue, both the front desk supervisor and front desk agent told me the property can "enter any room at any time," even with a Do Not Disturb posted. That statement alone should concern anyone staying here. It shows a total lack of understanding of basic privacy, guest rights, and safety protocols. The Regional Manager didn't handle it any better. He offered 5,000 points (about $20) as a "gesture," and seemed surprised when I told him that was unacceptable. The fact that such a serious violation was met with a token offer and blank stares says everything. What became painfully clear is that no one at this property -- from the front desk to management -- grasps the gravity of entering a guest's room without permission. They treated it as if it were nothing, when in reality it's a major security breach that puts guests and their belongings at risk. If you value your privacy, your safety, or the expectation that your room won't be accessed without your consent, do not stay here. This property has made it clear they do not take those responsibilities seriously.

You save $1 by having it as part of your hotel stay. There's a sky bridge on the 3rd floor which helps you avoid the street, which is quite busy during daylight and without any cars at night. I've stayed here twice. The rooms are comfortable and the furniture is in good condition. There's lots of water pressure and the bathrooms are clean. Unfortunately, I had problems with my room's AC on both stays. The first time I was on the hot side of the building and thought it might have been that but it did not get better once the sun went down. Maintenance came, checked the temp and acknowledged the warmth, said they could not do anything and left. On my second stay, the guy thought it might be the curtains blocking the airflow so he moved them and left. It never cooled down. I called downstairs, they brought me a key to another room, and I packed up and moved myself to another room. The next room was definitely an improvement but still not as cool as I like. A bit of a hassle but luckily I wasn't in a rush. Kudos to the front desk for accommodating me in such a drama free way. The warm cookies and free water for those with status already in the room helped. Lol

We had an overall positive, albeit very unusual and interesting, stay at the Groveland Hotel!…read more My husband, our pups, and I stayed for one night on our way to Yosemite. We let the hotel know in advance that we'd be arriving late, past office hours, and their contactless check-in process was very easy - they made sure to let us know via email exactly what to expect upon after hours arrival. Our envelope and room key were easy to find, and that's when we noticed we had been assigned Room 15: "Lyle's Room." It is an older inn-style hotel; the room itself was clean, charmingly decorated, and the bed was comfortable. Our dogs were totally fine and relaxed. The only thing I found a little unusual was an extra sink being inside the bedroom area near the dresser and facing the bed, but I chalked it up to the design of an older historic hotel. That night, while we were winding down and watching something on our phone since there was no TV in the room, I noticed the sink turn on and off a couple of times for about 1-2 seconds each. I figured it was just old plumbing. Other than that, nothing else out of the ordinary and we slept peacefully. The next morning is when things got interesting. We left for an early morning hike, and when we came back and put the key in the door, the entire doorknob fell off. We couldn't get into the room. When we went to the front desk, they simply said, "Oh, Lyle!" and called maintenance. Once maintenance arrived, he let us in and fixed the doorknob. While we were packing up, my husband went to take a shower. Everything was fine until he tried to turn the shower off and realized the knob just kept spinning. The shower would not shut off!! We quickly got dressed and notified the front desk right away, while the shower continued running. Then steam started wafting into the bedroom, and we realized the water was very hot with no way to cool it down or stop it! Maintenance came back, worked on it, and realized he needed a completely new part, so he had to leave and return while the water kept running. The staff and maintenance handled everything with a great attitude and great, responsive service despite the chaos. We later found out it was the maintenance guy's first day on the job, and everyone joked that Lyle was just giving him a hard time on day one. After the fact, we learned more about Lyle's Room and its haunted reputation, and honestly, we are believers after having no idea about him! It felt like Lyle was making himself known and having a little fun. We did some post-stay research, and we found out that Lyle is actually known for causing mischief in those exact ways - water issues, room access problems, and little disruptions like the ones we experienced, which made the whole experience feel even more eerie and oddly fitting! Overall, the Groveland Hotel is a nice, charming, older hotel, and we'd stay again. Clean, comfortable, and just enough amenities for a decent overall stay in a small town. That said, I don't think we'd stay in Lyle's Room again, haha. At first, I wished we had been given a heads-up that the room was famously haunted, but on second thought, I probably would have requested a different room if I had known. So maybe it was better this way - definitely a memorable stay! Thanks Groveland Hotel, and Lyle!

Staff are super friendly and extra helpful. Theres also a decent size off-street parking lot in the back. The best rooms are on the upstairs front of the hotel and have a nice wraparound porch area with cool places to sit and relax. These are fairly close to the road though and while the rooms didn't t seem "noisy at all if you are sensitive to noise you will still hear some of the more noisy vehicles from the main road and may want to get a room at the rear or in the middle of the hotel. Also, if you are traveling in the area in fall or winter it's important to remember that little towns like this kinda shut down and places are open on a limited schedule if at all. The cool bar and restaurant path the Hrovel d hotel is only open Th,F, S and Su. As are a lot of other places in town ( and it's a tiny town). A good and reliable place though is the Iron Door Tavern right next door they seemed to be open most days. Anyhow, overall, the grovel and was a great little place and we'd definitely stay there again.
