I had went to this mechanic to have a plug on my AC compressor electro-magnet clutch replaced as it would intermittently cut out. Key word is intermittently. They took my car in, said they duplicated the problem and that a grey plug was loose. They plugged it in and it worked. Sure, okay. $100 to plug in a plug. At least I don't have to deal with it. Two weeks later my car has the same issue. I call up and the scheduler told me to come in the following Wednesday. I did just that, and when I came in, they told me it was the previous Wednesday and to reschedule... okay, fine. I went right home and ended up repairing the plug myself, which was different from the plug that they "plugged in". I video taped what the actual plug was and showed them it connecting to the compressor and asked for a refund. They told me to come back the next week when the owner was there. I came back and they said "the owner is at the other location but said no." So not only did they waste my time three times, but they stole $100 because their electrician of 30 years couldn't properly diagnose a simple AC electro-magnet clutch connector and still had to get paid. They told me it was fine when I took it, even though its an INTERMITTENT issue. Think twice before coming here for any electrical work or any work at all for that matter. read more

I took my 4Runner in for brake work, and I have to say I'm pretty unhappy. My brakes have not worked well since I let Mostly service them. The standard response is that "that's how it is on these mountain roads". A few weeks after taking my vehicle to Mostly, I took it in for a tire rotation at another local garage, and they pointed out that "whoever worked on your front brakes didn't complete the job.", and pointed to a loose bolt. Save yourself some frustration and multiple trips, and find another place to take your car for brake work. read more

I have an older 4Runner that I have done most of the work on but some things I don't have the expertise or diagnostic equipment to perform. Plus I'm getting too old to do some of my own work. Mostly diagnosed and fixed a problem within a day and alerted me to some other things that needed my attention. Some of those I did myself but brought it back for the other items. They put new life into my old car and thoroughly inspected it for additional items I should pay attention to. Great Job Mostly! I was a victim of hate and discrimination at this place- don't take your car here. This is a follow up from the post below because I've come to understand what really happened. I chose this place because it was highly rated. The appointment took a week. I took it in for a noise coming from somewhere underneath the car. They seemed pleasant and I waited about an hour until they were done looking at it. There were no unpleasant exchanges of any kind. Then it started. The young blond woman in charge told me that my transmission was leaking badly, and that I was probably going to run out of fluid soon. She also told me that it had been overfilled last time it was serviced (a complete lie), which could cause damage-. She also told me that the car had a lot going on as far as needed repairs. My car is in mint condition and has been well maintained. They didn't want to look at it any further until I had someone look at the transmission. I asked if they recommend any transmission shops. I thought they might know since they were supposed to be so good. I asked if there was a charge for looking at it, but she waived it off and said, nah. So, like anyone would, I left under extreme duress because I might be looking at replacing the transmission. The tranny shop I was told about was almost all the way to Fletcher- 20 miles. I figured I wanted a good shop to look at it, so I went to the trouble of dropping my vehicle off there. That shop said it had nothing to do with the transmission, but that I needed a front wheel bearing and a CV boot cover. My tranny was leaking, but it was a very minor thing. Looking back, it was clearly their intention to stress me out by making me believe I might need to spend thousands of dollars for repair and give me the run around. After wasting two weeks with these clowns information, I took it to Newbridge Alignment in Woodfin, and they did an awesome and quick job. I don't know why they decided to put the hate on me like that. Maybe they thought I was easily fooled. I don't know - but this ignorant passive aggressive mentally ill woman, and this place really tried to throw a super stressful situation on me. What ignorant small minded people like theses don't realize is that there is money on the table if I want it. You can't just waist peoples time and money and intentionally cause mental duress like that without there being financial consequences if I choose to peruse it. It's pretty sad that they have to get themselves off in such an ignorant low class way. I'm putting this down in writing too, because I waisted two weeks during the holidays, and was unable to go out of town for my holiday plans, which really put it over the top of unacceptable. ---Really terrible experience. Went there because it was rated number # 1 in Asheville's local services review magazine. They were nice but Completely misdiagnosed the problem- wasn't even close - caused a lot of stress- They then recommended a shop way out of the way, maybe because of their competition across the street who repair what they said needed attention- A tranny shop. We worked with Mostly Automotive (formerly Mostly Toyota) for a few years when we lived in Asheville. They were friendly, funny, knowledgeable mechanics, but they seemed at times slightly out of their element dealing with a 90s Camry from New England. Several times the bill came to much more than expected because they broke off a bolt or ruined a caliber. I don't blame them for being unfamiliar with the sorts of rust buildup cars get in Maine, but it's difficult when you budget for one repair and then have to pay for another because a shop mechanic over-torqued a bolt... An aside: A Good Samaritan once paid the remainder of a bill when a $500 repair ballooned to over a grand. It's random acts of kindness like this that I miss most about Asheville... read more

Quick solution to a problem that could have been due to a number of very expensive possible failures but they diagnosed a software problem and corrected it at very modest expense. No shop in my small county would tackle the problem so I took it to this group based on a recommendation from a longtime resident of Asheville. Damage was done to the body of my vehicle while it was in this shop. When I came back to tell them, the lady at the counter tried to stare me down, doubted me, then went to the back to get the mechanic. He came storming out, already angry, denied having anything to do with the damage, said it was his word against mine. I told him "Well, you all can be accountable for what's happened, or you can lose a customer and I'll tell others what happened here." The mechanic's sarcastic reply was exactly this: "Bummer." Then he went back inside. I guess they have plenty of business without me. Now I'm out hundred of dollars to repair the vehicle. I have been very satisfied with the auto service provided by Mostly on my previous Infiniti as well as my current Subaru Outback. The two ladies at the front desk (Laurel and Jessica) quickly check you in, answer any questions and work very efficiently together. Whenever I have needed a shuttle, the driver has been efficient and courteous and when I have spoken to a service tech they have likewise worked to take care of my concern, however minor. Unlike another service provider in town, I have never had my car kept until the next day because they could not meet their commitment. Long time customer (11 yrs), simply love what they do and how they do it. They have saved me money more than once when others have recommended work that really did not need doing. When I really liked a potential car purchase they showed me the errors (and dangers) of my almost decision, probably saved my life, truth be told. Mostly has always done a decent job on repairing my Subaru, but they aren't really my ideal shop. I think they are used to older folks who just bring in the Outback for routine maintenance and just pay what they are asking without question. I have always gotten the run-around over my WRX being modded and their price quotes are usually about 10% too high for me to actually get the work done there. The will only use OEM parts and most of the time, I'd prefer a superior aftermarket part. They replaced my timing belt and water pump but must've forgotten the tensioner pulley as it just sheared off within 50,000 miles and I had to get another timing belt. read more

We stopped in Asheville for several days. I heard a noise coming from under my Honda Mini van. I knew it was the heat shield as this was not the only time I had heard that noise. I looked up on Yelp that Mostly Automotive specialized in Honda. They were nice enough to take a look at my car right away. They fixed the issue in 5 minutes and then told me "no charge"! They were great and I did my best to try and pay. They were very professional and I would recommend them to anyone. read more

I chose Mostly Automotive for an oil change and check-up for my Toyota after driving from Boston to NC. They did a thorough exam and charged less than I expected! For some reason an auto shop with a little bit of an attitude makes me feel more comfortable. I called this place for a quote on getting a clutch installed I purchased for a 04 mini cooper. They called back with a $1600.00 quote...saying that I have to replace the flywheel also on mini coopers. She said that it depended on the model of the mini and of course I had that model!! Guess what....I called BMW and you DO NOT need to replace a flywheel when replacing a clutch....only on Copper S you have to. I had a fan installed before with them and wanted them to also install my brakes. They tried to ripped me off on a extra 60 charge on the brakes.. that another place does for free. So I passed on the break job and get it in for the fan to be installed and they said that they could do the breaks with out the extra $60.00 charge then! Still didn't let them! I just want to compare quotes.. so I though I would give them one more chance and they came back with the flywheel lie. So I took it to the place right down the street who gave me a honest $800.00 quote for having my clutch installed.
