I'm giving it a slightly higher review because the lady at the front was very kind. My car broke down last week and I had to get it towed to a shop to find out what was wrong with it. Once it was at the shop I figured I'd just "support a small business" and let them do the work. I get a call that they believe the issue is the spark plugs. The diagnostic isn't free (it's literally just plugging in a reader for the warning light) but they say they'll deduct some of it. I've worked on my car before and I have an idea of how long it took in my old cars because I did the work myself. But I didn't have a spot to do it, tools, or honestly...the time and headspace. They come back with $500 for diagnostic, parts, labor. Now I'm a little annoyed because I know spark plugs aren't that expensive, but I thought "maybe because it's a newer car it's harder to get to those parts so it'll take a bit longer". I agreed and let them do it. This is where it gets more annoying. They come back and tell me the $500 spark plug job didn't fix the issue and I need my ignition coils fixed and that brings the total to $1400! Now I'm actually mad. I said no thank you, I can figure something out later but I don't have $1400 lying around, the week of Thanksgiving, right before Christmas. The front desk lady is apologetic, she understands and tells me she'll call me back. She knocks $50 off the job I get my car back. Look...to be fair, my car needed a tune up 50,000 miles ago, and those spark plugs were dead (good job Mazda on making good parts). But $1400 was nuts. THEN I looked up how to change the ignition coils on my car and I was overtaken by rage. The spark plugs would've taken them no more than 30 minutes. The most expensive spark plugs at any auto parts place would've cost me $100 tops, they charged me $160. The ignition coils are expensive, and at an auto place would've cost $600. I paid $300 for all 4 and they arrived in 2 days. The work...to change the ignition coils took 10 MINUTES, 10 MINUTES. That means that this shop charged $164 for 20 minutes of work on the spark plugs. Then wanted to charge an additional $300 for 15 minutes of work on the ignition coils. Which BTW, if they had done all of the work at the same time would have been 30 minutes tops because you have to remove the ignition coils to get to the spark plugs. read more

Trust me when I say this: USE SOMEBODY ELSE. Unless you want to wait WEEKS longer than should ever be expected, and for the work to still not be completed and needing to be sent back. They finally fixed my issue which was a sound that occurred on acceleration, but it was after FOUR visits, a little over a MONTH of work. Waiting on parts and shipping aside this was an absolutely ridiculous experience and they have no haste in working on your vehicle unless they are pushed to do so. Don't even try with customer service either, no problem is their fault and you can never talk to man in charge. They'd rather hang up on you (which they did to me) then to help you solve the issue. All they want is the money coming in to them and they don't care to check their work or to make sure it's quality checked and completed. They simply don't care about the time it takes, the customer, or that the work is done correctly. I'm sure there will be a response to this trying to justify what happened just like the rest, but when you misdiagnose something multiple times and cost the customer almost $500 without a single care at all your shops a joke...maybe new management is needed cause this was horrendous. However I will add again that the problem was finally solved but we'll see if it lasts or if it's crap work just like the first time. read more

Great service, quality workmanship and reasonable pricing make IAW a great alternative to having dealership service done. On this visit they provided BG intake cleaning to get carbon deposits off the top side of the valves. Unfortunately, some residual carbon remained causing some cylinder misfires during cold start-up. After thorough diagnostics confirmed the symptoms, Bruce removed the intake manifold and meticulously cleaned away all residue. I'm 100% satisfied with the results and recommend their service. Going forward, IAW will be my first choice for routine maintenance and repairs (if needed) read more

Bruce the owner is a sweetheart! We were having electrical issues between our motorhome and car. Even though I called on a Thursday morning and he was booked up for the day. He said to stop by and he would take a look at the issue for me. He wasn't able to determine the problem since it appears to be on the motorhome side, which he doesn't work on. He was however able to determine the problem wasn't with the car. That is at least something to go on. He didn't even charge me for his time!! That is very rare and special these days. I would highly recommend his shop for your auto repair needs. read more

I was driving Uber in my 2015 Subaru Outback, and the passenger directly behind me announced: "Lindsay, you have a bad wheel bearing." He proceeded to explain that he owned an auto shop and gave me his card. Turns out it was Bruce Berry of International Auto Works. Another passenger the night before mentioned something "sounded off" in my car, so Bruce's comment didn't surprise me or feel salesman-y. We already aren't fans of the service branch of our local dealership, so we decided to give IAW a try. They replaced the wheel bearing in a timely manner and all was well. A few days later, the electric parking brake started seizing on that same wheel. We thought it might be related to the wheel bearing fix, which was disappointing at first. IAW came to our house near UNCA, towed us back to their shop in Fletcher, and ran a plethora of tests the next day. Turns out our battery was failing (and it was not related to the wheel bearing fix at all, just a strange coincidence.) Even so, they gave us a complimentary tow, and again, we had quick and lovely service. I jokingly told Bruce that I hoped I didn't see him again any time soon. That being said, if we do have problems with our vehicle again, you can get we'll be back! read more

I had my emissions done on 2 cars, I appreciate that they take appointments. Bruce ( the owner) is exceptionally nice as well as the rest of the staff, even Rowdy-his dog. Please give this place a try. I hope to use them for other services in the future. read more

In my most altruistic voice I offer this review on International Auto Works. Fortunately for the reader, I am not listening to the selfish voice in me that is telling me not to tell other potential BMW owners about this wonderful alternative for vehicle service. I have used International Auto Works on two occasions in the past three months. One to put two new front Michelin tires on my 2008 X3. The other occasion was to replace a valve cover gasket. They performed professionally and under the dealership price. It is good to have a competitively priced and competent alternative for BMW work in the Asheville area. What they say is true, having a good mechanic is almost as important as having a good doctor in our mobile economy. read more

Bruce at International Auto Works was my angel. I broke down halfway on my trip to Charlotte and he took the time to come to me on a Saturday and help. All I will say is that these are good people who are not looking to rip anyone off. Bruce helped me out of the kindness of his heart - spent half of his Saturday figuring out how I could get back on the road and never took a dime. Wonderful service, wonderful people. I cannot say enough good things about this place! Their service is absolutely outstanding!!! They are very knowledgeable and their prices are competitive. I brought my car in at 9am, and they did a LOT of work on it (new tires, new front brakes, oil change, manual drive flushing . . . ) and it was done the same day.
