I'll drive to the other side of town because the service here is actually professional and good, and not lackadaisical like the previous place up north that's closer to me. They have the most competitive labor rates and can do alignments, so they've got just about everything covered.

Once it was at the shop I figured I'd just "support a small business" and let them do the work. I get a call that they believe the issue is the spark plugs. The diagnostic isn't free (it's literally just plugging in a reader for the warning light) but they say they'll deduct some of it. I've worked on my car before and I have an idea of how long it took in my old cars because I did the work myself. But I didn't have a spot to do it, tools, or honestly...the time and headspace. They come back with $500 for diagnostic, parts, labor. Now I'm a little annoyed because I know spark plugs aren't that expensive, but I thought "maybe because it's a newer car it's harder to get to those parts so it'll take a bit longer". I agreed and let them do it. This is where it gets more annoying. They come back and tell me the $500 spark plug job didn't fix the issue and I need my ignition coils fixed and that brings the total to $1400! Now I'm actually mad. I said no thank you, I can figure something out later but I don't have $1400 lying around, the week of Thanksgiving, right before Christmas. The front desk lady is apologetic, she understands and tells me she'll call me back. She knocks $50 off the job I get my car back. Look...to be fair, my car needed a tune up 50,000 miles ago, and those spark plugs were dead (good job Mazda on making good parts). But $1400 was nuts. THEN I looked up how to change the ignition coils on my car and I was overtaken by rage. The spark plugs would've taken them no more than 30 minutes. The most expensive spark plugs at any auto parts place would've cost me $100 tops, they charged me $160. The ignition coils are expensive, and at an auto place would've cost $600. I paid $300 for all 4 and they arrived in 2 days. The work...to change the ignition coils took 10 MINUTES, 10 MINUTES. That means that this shop charged $164 for 20 minutes of work on the spark plugs. Then wanted to charge an additional $300 for 15 minutes of work on the ignition coils. Which BTW, if they had done all of the work at the same time would have been 30 minutes tops because you have to remove the ignition coils to get to the spark plugs.

I met Mr. Roland maybe six years ago before I purchased a truck from a dealership near his shop. I…read morewanted to have the truck checked out before I purchased it, and the auto dealer recommended Roland. I thought maybe that was a conflict of interest and wanted to take it to my own mechanic. My mechanic was backed up and couldn't get away, so I reluctantly took the truck to Mr. Roland, and I was beyond satisfied with his expertise, service, and kindness. He drove the truck and turned the steering wheel a few times while driving straight and explained why he did that. He turned down the radio to listen for any noises that may have been out of the ordinary. He did a few quick stop-and-go checks to check the brakes. He did a hands-on examination and told me that I would eventually need to have a tiny hole in the muffler repaired at some point, but it wasn't major and recommended a shop. He told me the tailgate latch was tricky to open, but showed me how to open it without problems. And he also guaranteed me that he could beat any price in town. With that being said, a year later, my GMC Terrain started stalling and shutting off whenever I would come to a complete stop, which was kind of scary. I took it to Firestone, and they placed it on a machine to diagnose it and quoted $700+ to fix the issue. I then remembered Mr. Roland and went to see him. He called one of his technicians out, and while the car was running, he asked the technician what he thought was wrong? The technician put his ear to my car to listen to it and told Mr. Roland the exact same thing that Firestone had said. That was very impressive considering they did not have to put my car on a machine to diagnose it. Mr. Roland, not knowing what Firestone had quoted me, said it would cost me about $300+ to repair it. They were kind of busy that morning, but he managed to squeeze me in. I went next door to Cracker Barrel for breakfast, made some business calls, played a few games on my phone, and did a little shopping to pass time. Within two hours, my car was ready. I've been back a few times to have my vehicles inspected and/ or repaired. In fact, it's been a while, and I need to have my GMC checked out again, so I'll be calling Mr. Roland.

They took my car in, said they duplicated the problem and that a grey plug was loose. They plugged it in and it worked. Sure, okay. $100 to plug in a plug. At least I don't have to deal with it. Two weeks later my car has the same issue. I call up and the scheduler told me to come in the following Wednesday. I did just that, and when I came in, they told me it was the previous Wednesday and to reschedule... okay, fine. I went right home and ended up repairing the plug myself, which was different from the plug that they "plugged in". I video taped what the actual plug was and showed them it connecting to the compressor and asked for a refund. They told me to come back the next week when the owner was there. I came back and they said "the owner is at the other location but said no." So not only did they waste my time three times, but they stole $100 because their electrician of 30 years couldn't properly diagnose a simple AC electro-magnet clutch connector and still had to get paid. They told me it was fine when I took it, even though its an INTERMITTENT issue. Think twice before coming here for any electrical work or any work at all for that matter.
