Sooooo my husband took my car to a Take 5 in Charlotte to get an oil change. They forgot to attach the engine cover or whatever they unscrew at the bottom of my car in the front. So the shits been scraping the ground. This past Friday I take my car to Firestone in Huntersville to get it fixed along with a few other things. Unbeknownst to me until I hit a bump on the way to Asheville for my birthday weekend , the shit is still hanging and scraping the road as I drive. Fast forward to today. I call Coxe this morning. They're crazy busy so I don't have any expectations. I call my husband to see if his friend who owns a shop about 45 min away can get it done. He can. I dont wanna have to drive out there just yet so I bring my car to Coxe like they advised. As Cat mentioned before it may take a minute to get to my car. It's all good. I'm waiting for only 2 min or less and Cat at the front desk told me they'll get to my car real soon once a lift opens. In literally less than 6 min my car is in the back. Wow! Also waiting in the lobby and the other lady is vacuuming asking me if she's disturbing me. Just friendliness and kindness all around. Then Aaron comes out and tells me that the front piece was being held up by zip ties. Thanks Firestone! Rather than telling me they need to order the parts from Honda like Aaron said, they pieced my shit together for it to just come down. Firestone in Huntersville did me dirty. I'm leaving a review there too. Aaron gave me the piece that was hanging down. Gave me the ONE screw that was there out of like 8 or so that I needed. AND THEY DIDN'T CHARGE ME!!! Thank you thank you thank you so much Kat and Aaron!!! If I ever need work done and have a visit coming up for Asheville, I'll just take my car here. I mean I love Asheville cause most everyone I encounter here are polite and kind, but this is some next level shit for me as a Black Woman. I have been going to this auto shop for years and I can only say great things! It is quite busy (because it is so great) but if you call ahead (they answer the phone regularly) they are more than willing to communicate and be flexible. The owner is kind and direct. He always talks to you about what is wrong with your car in a way that you will understand but not feel dumb. He is willing to go out of his way to help and problem solve and the feel is always community orientated and personable. He really cares about helping. They are versatile and knowledgeable- this is your go to shop for many things. I have been here for everything from tire holes to tuning belts. He even fixed a dent I had once (I thought it needed a body shop but he just reached under the tire and popped it out!) They have been great with my subarus! Can I give zero stars? Too bad! I spoke on the phone with a fella about my simple-to-describe problem and scheduled an appointment for later that week. Something came up, and I called to reschedule for the next week. The day before my "appointment," I called and asked if I could leave the car after hours the day before. Mid-afternoon, I called them. They had never looked at my car, because they didn't know who the car belonged to or how to call me! The man reamed me out on the phone for ME not having given HIM any information. First, he said he couldn't remember what I'd said to him because we had talked so long ago (a week) and THEN he said he couldn't write down what scheduled customers say to him because then his "appointment book would be as big as a Bible." I spent all kinds of $ on Uber and I still don't know what's up with my car. My last Uber driver did recommend another repair shop that his parents like. Guess I'll try them. I hear this place is good, but they don't want to use any kind of paperwork. Plan on leaving your car all day. It looks like maybe they don't track their sales with paperwork, either: spread out on the counter were a couple dozen car keys with raggedy handwritten notes under them. P.S. FYI, behind the counter is a sign bragging something about how sarcasm is part of their communication style. read more

Bummer, I've been going to Cox Auto for 8 years and recommended them to a lot of people. Unfortunately over the last couple of years Ray has been not so great to work with. Easily irritated and very rude to myself and two of the people I've referred. Prices have been a lot higher than he quoted me the last three times I've had to take my car in. His shop does good work and he knows his stuff but the attitude doesn't sit well with me when I've given him thousands of dollars over the years. When I'm stressed over my car and money I really don't want to deal with whatever mood he's in when I call so I'll be finding a new shop unfortunately. read more

I have been trying to get my air conditioning fixed for several weeks at Cadillac Dealerships along my travel route. Each one had availability out several weeks, wanted 1-3 hours of diagnosis, 1-5 days to get the parts, and a few days to complete the repairs. Since I am traveling and never in one location for more than a week, I was totally frustrated. I tried Cox Auto repair. I got an appointment within my timing. The diagnosis took an hour, and the repair was completed within that day!! What a difference. The shop is obviously quite busy, but I was worked in as an emergency (no flexibility at the Cadillac dealer in Bluffton SC). These guys are honest and fair, which is extremely hard to find (or so it seems). I had been quoted $800 - $1200 for a timing belt repair from another shop -- Cox Auto did it for $450. Shortly after moving to Asheville my car broke down and I took a chance based off of yelp reviews to come here. Since then I've brought my car in multiple times for repairs and every single time I've had a pleasant experience. The problems are always explained in detail so that I know exactly what is wrong and the prices are very fair. Sometimes it does take a few days to get your car back but if you take a look inside the shop you'll always see it full so it's completely understandable. My car has a problem burning oil so I asked them to take a look at what may be the problem and they told me to take it to Subaru because they knew of a recalled part that causes that in older models. A sketchy auto shop would've just taken my money and replaced the part themself but Coxe Auto was very honest & transparent. I'll continue going here for all my car needs as long as I live in Asheville. read more

My car stopped running in West Asheville so I had it towed over here. It was really busy at the time and it took them around a week to let me know what was wrong (a blown head gasket). They wound getting the work done in about a week once they diagnosed the issue and it seems to be running fine. He asked that I bring it back in when it hits around another 1000 miles or so in order for him to change the oil again (there was still some concerns about fluids mixing) and check the work. Overall, I am very happy with the work, but the time it took to find out what was wrong was a bit long. They worked hard, and I am perfectly glad that I took it here. Pricing was very good as well (coming out to just over 1600$). Would gladly go back to them for work that needs to be done! read more

We ended up at Cox auto Service on a recommendation from another auto repair place. The service we received was amazing. The car was fixed quickly and for a more than reasonable price. It would have been easy for Cox Service center to overcharge us because of our desperate situation but they did not. We were both impressed with the service we received. (My son is a bit of a gearhead with cars being his passion...meaning he is well aware what it costs to fix his car and he was surprised at what a great job they did and how fair the price was.) Ray and his guys are the best! I've been coming here for years. Super honest and fair priced. They will do you right. If you ever leave there and your car doesn't feel right or something happens call them immediately and he will take care of it instantly. If you ever have a problem and not sure if it's major or minor he will tell you up front yes or no to keep driving or pull over immediately. If it isn't broke they won't try to upset you or tell you things you don't need like so many other places around here. I will never take my car anywhere else as long as they are around. These folks are great. I really appreciate how they don't try to upsell and nickle and dime you like the chain car mechanic places do. They fix things to get the best life left out of them instead of just throwing out and charging for an upgrade. They're honest and don't overcharge. My car is a lemon and I've personally given them enough business to put a dozen kids through braces, and at this point, they've told me to get a new car. How honest is that when they could just keep milking my repair jobs instead? They even offered to inspect any potential purchase. Great folks to work with! Have recommended to others before but had such a recent bad experience, I will take my business elsewhere from now on. Been a long time customer until dealing with Ray when I guess he woke on the wrong side of the bed. Called early and scheduled a time and gave Ray the truck info., and what I wanted looked at, as I always do and said I would drop it early so they could get right on it. Got the truck there early before they opened and dropped keys in the designated key drop. Called the next day to have Ray completely loose his cool that he didn't know who's old truck the keys were to, although he admitted to having an appointment for it and knew which truck they keys went to, but just didn't record my number when I called. His key drop gives zero instruction as to his expectations, but said I should of read his mind and didn't put a paper on my seat or on keys to tell him who's old truck it was?? Said I could come pick up my truck, without working on it and said he would put the keys in the seat. Luckily he thought better of it and kept in the shop but WTF? Ray is not one to accept he's not a great communicator even at the risk of his business. I didn't argue as I feel it's just a waste of time, but really disappointed in how this was handled. I had such a great experience at Cox Auto Service. I had been hearing some grinding and squealing in my brakes for awhile and at a recommendation, tried this company. I called on a Wednesday and even though they were only taking appointments for Friday, they got me in that day. My car was ready the next day with new brakes, brake pads, and front rotors. The cost was a little more than what I was quoted originally, but they put better rotors on and I'll happily pay a little extra for something that is better quality and will last longer. I trust this shop, especially after having some unpleasant experiences elsewhere (only went to others because I live clear across town now and tried a couple places a little closer).
