I bought a pair of glasses at the Moscot shop on Fillmore St on 4/1. I made my choice very quickly with the help of a sales person who informed me that I needed "nose pads". I didn't know what that meant but went along with it b/c he said I needed them. I had no idea until I got home and reviewed the receipt that nose pads cost $125.
Several weeks later I returned to pickup my glasses and they didn't fit. The person at the store adjusted them and they seemed OK, but when I wore them for more than a quick try-on, they slid right off my nose. I went back at least 3 more times and the exact same thing happened - adjustments and more sliding.
Eventually someone suggested I needed a different type of nose pad - I had no idea a different type existed. I tried on a sample and realized there were nose pads that would fit higher up on my nose and prevent sliding. So I left my glasses and a few days later they were ready. The nose pads looked *exactly* the same as the old ones I had, but the person at the store assured me they had been replaced so I took them home and they slid right off my nose.
I went back to the store again - this may have been the 5th or 6th visit? I spoke to someone else and explained that the nose pads needed to be replaced again. She agreed and sent the glasses off again. A week or 2 later I received a text and email letting me know the glasses were ready so I went back - again - only to learn that there was a glitch in the system and the glasses were NOT ready. That's when I demanded a refund. I had been very patient but this was ridiculous. They kindly asked me to give them one more chance so I did. She said my order would be expedited.
I week later, still no glasses, so I gave them an ultimatum - either give me my glasses or a refund or I would go to the BBB for assistance with a refund. The glasses were finally delivered to my home the following day (6/9). The nose pads had been replaced, although they were not the ones that we had determined would fit my nose. After a quick adjustment I kept the glasses and decided they were OK and finally fit properly. But after wearing them for about a week, the glasses were still not quite right and continue to slide off my nose. But after waiting over 2 months, I was done. They broke me. I will not go back to that shop again.
For $825 I expect, at a minimum, for my glasses to fit properly. Everyone at the store was very kind and apologetic, but honestly there were missteps at *every* point. If my experience is at all typical, I have no idea how they stay in business. If it was not typical, I would have expected some type of accommodation for the gigantic hassle this was. They did offer to "adjust the frame, restyle your selection, or place a new order with new lenses/frame to ensure you end up with something you're happy with". But after the terrible buying experience I really don't want to restart the clock, only to end up with another ill-fitting pair of glasses 2 frustrating months from now. read more
