I went here while me and my family were visiting my mother in law. The wait time to get sat was really fast and I felt are food came out really fast too. I ordered the shrimp melt with a side of clam chowder. They were both really good. Lots of shrimp and the bread was very buttery. I really appreciate that one of the options for sides was clam chowder. Most places you have to pay extra for clam chowder. All in all I would go back. Great food with an amazing view. read more

As an out of towner, when you see a giant billboard heralding this spot as THE BEST chowder - you got to go check it out and see what the hype is all about. Being from Seattle and having the likes of Ivars and Pike Place Chowder as competitors who set the bar pretty high, then of course the local fish spots like Burien Fish House or Salty Blue are heavy weight contenders as well. Upon arrival the place was packed and bustling, a good sign. Great views of the water at every seat. Let's get to eating! I will say the price isn't cheap but I'm not travelling and eating on a budget so I wasn't overly concerned. However the nitty gritty is the food. And honestly, I was just underwhelmed with every bite. The staff/service was nice no doubt about that - but the food was just okay. Chowder sour dough bowl just tasted like any normal chowder you can get at any restaurant that wants to serve chowder. Not chunky or filled with clams in every bite. No silky smooth creaminess that makes you yearn for another bite. The seafood platter was the bummiest one i've had. I'd expect it from a fast food spot but not a "best of" seafood spot along the Oregon coast. Small bits of clam strips so all you could taste is batter, fish was crispy and dry. Shrimp, there was like two pieces. Frankly you could have had the same meal if you bought frozen fried seafood and air fried it. More disappointingly, as we drove up the Oregon Coast, Mo's Seafood & Chowder was in the next 3 or 4 towns. So just a fancy Skippers is all it really is. Not terrible by any means but far from the Best of... unless it is the case then i feel bad for all the other spots if this really is the best of it. we had a waiter named Tyler. It was the worst service I have received in many years. From beginning to end it was a disappointment. The meal was nothing like what we have enjoyed in the past. Our food was brought out at different times, overcooked, spilled over onto the serving plates. Our waiter did not return to our table. We had to seek out assistance three times during our meal. Famous isn't award winning? I had about a two hour drive to my destination from EUG (I know you read that review) and along the way, I would see all these seafood restaurants including a world famous clam chowder @ Mo's billboard. They had me at chowder. I didn't have to use Apple Maps because the signs led me right too the place. They're right on the waterfront and this isn't a dress to impress place but a great "get with family and friends to converse" place. Wood tables you find on a beach bar, wood benches that have usage, shell necklaces hanging here and there, a small general store in the corner, and great workers with positive attitudes. When I went to the hostess stand, the host asked how many in my party? I always reply with; "Just me I have no friends". First thing she does is stick out her hand and say; "I'm Mary, now we're friends." How cool is that!!!!! I've said this joke hundreds of times and she responded with that?!?!?! Next George, my server promptly brings water and greets me with a smile. I didn't want to take up too much of his time because they were busy. Quick glance of the menu and I picked fried calamari for an appetizer. Yes peeps again. For my main entree, I was having problems. I wanted the halibut but not sure how I wanted it cook. The two dings I have about this place was one the calamari. They were busy so my order took awhile and then the calamari was cooked too long. It was close to burnt and the breading kept falling off. I was getting nervous about the rest of my meal. Main entree and chowder came together. The halibut looked and tasted delicious. That thing melted in my mouth and was cook to the "T". The rice pilaf it came with was my second ding. It was mushy but that blacken halibut was so moist and flakey I didn't care. I'm just mentioning it for the record. The chowder was phenomenal. And this is not award winning?!?!?! There was some grit but to me that means nothing but freshness. It wasn't too thick and man it was really good. I should have asked for a gallon to go. It is like winning a jackpot when you find a food spot on the lake that feels like pure comfort, where you can hang out , fill ur belly n watch beautiful surroundings . This is what i felt sitting n eating my seafood salad at this restaurant. Its not a very fancy place . Benches to sit on n servers who have been working there for ages ( some of them hear loud ) , straight forward menu with good seafood options n a special of sourdough bun with cheese n potatoes filling. At 2:30 on a Monday (today), our attempt to buy a family size order of clam chowder to go - (JUST the chowder) was denied because they were "too busy", were "training new staff" and blah blah blah. My fiancé and I came here after our trip up the coast and we were lucky enough to not have to wait in line for long. Upon walking in, you follow a row around the souvenirs and get to the podium where you tell the hostess how many are in your party. For a seafood restaurant, it doesn't have that fish smell at all and it is pretty clean! We were seated near the middle of the restaurant but it was still nice because we were still able to have a beautiful view of the whole river. This was my first time here so my fiancé wanted me to try the steamed oysters, the artichoke dip, the shrimp cocktail, and I got the tacos and he got the shrimp burgers. Let me tell you, it was a lot of food!!!! The prices are fairly reasonable as well for the amount of food we got and especially for seafood, the price wasn't bad at all. My fiancé and I really enjoyed the food- the flavors were there for the artichoke dip and the oysters but I think for the tacos and the shrimp burger, they were average. Nothing that I personally would drive from afar for but I would come back for the artichoke dip and the steamed oysters. The artichoke dip had a nice robust flavor to it with the creaminess to each bite. There were also slices of buttered bread to spread the dip on as well. I'm usually used to eating pretty healthy foods but this was a little on the greasy side. You can't tell it's greasy from looking at it but along with all the other stuff we got, it was a little heavy on the grease. All in all, we probably would be coming back here for the yummy steamed oysters and the artichoke dip, but we would probably scale back on the other items because we were sooooo full! read more

Hubby and I dropped by for lunch. This is the best Mo's we've been too. Usual excellent food. Atmosphere and view coupled with great service by Natalie made the meal exceptional. We both had the Halibut seafood basket. His was fried - crisp fresh yummy. I asked for grilled which they were happy to accommodate and grilled to perfection. He had the signature clam chowder and raved about it. I had the cabbage shrimp salad which was lovely. I would ask for less dressing next time but that's a personal preference. Sunday night and it's pretty quiet for Mo's. Got seated right away and our server was right there. I had the shrimp dinner but substituted the carb for a shrimp salad. Cup of chowder included. All of it was delicious as always. I especially liked the butterflied fried shrimp with cocktail sauce. My date had a bowl of chowder and the shrimp dinner salad with ranch. I'm continually blown away by how welcoming they are and how they always find a table all of us can sit at. The service is fantastic. They also will do multiple checks no matter how spread out we are at the table. I always enjoy coming Mo's. Love the traditional clam chowder and fish and chips. Always busy so get there early, worth the wait.

We were on a road trip and craving seafood so decided to stop here for dinner. It's not my first choice as Mo's in other locations have severely declined over the years but hey, we were here and wanted seafood. Good news was this location only had a maybe 15 minute wait and they text you when your table is ready. So we walked around outside since it was nice and has a great view. The place is very open these days because of reduced seating. The view is great and I like that all the decor is for sale. I assume it's local artists. Our server was great, super friendly. These are the things that are good. The food on the other hand is mediocre at best. I've known for a very long time that the chowder was not good, but decided to get a cup of that anyway. So yeah, still not good, no flavor. The menu itself wasn't impressive, so I got a mixed plate of fried food. Basically it was, well, fried food. I always feel like I'm in this odd position of writing in defense of Mo's. But this doesn't mean I think it is the best place ever and I am well aware of its flaws. In fact, I think a large portion of the population SHOULD NOT go here. It has a very specific market in which they excel and others should make another choice. Mo's is old school. They are a family friendly place that has been doing pretty much the same thing on the Oregon Coast for decades. They cater to families and seniors. Those that appreciate efficiency and casual dining with fantastic views for a reasonable price and don't mind walking through the 'gift shop' with beach souvenirs as you enter and leave. My family always has good experiences at Mo's. If I was with my husband, we'd find a modern bistro. But on a beach trip with kids... we know their sandwiches are served on white bread and Mo's chowder with a dollop of butter. How many other places serve a grilled cheese sandwich on a frisbee for you to bring to the beach later? They have their own Mo's Ale, made by Rogue Brewery, and portions are fine. My favorite thing to do is get Mo's to go because most of their locations are close to the beach (Tolovana is my all time favorite). This location is in Old Town Florence close to the marina, so eat in. Since Mo's has been around for ages, they have snagged some fabulous locations and this one doesn't disappoint with views of the Siuslaw River and Florence Bridge. read more

Friends told us we had to try Mo's because it had good food so despite the reviews, we stopped on our way through Florence. It has a nice view on the river that flows through Old Town Florence. There is also a really nice guest docks for boats to tie up to (or stay) to go to town or the restaurant. I had the weekly special- shrimp skewers, popcorn shrimp & fried shrimp that came with two sides-I had a cup of chowder and French fries. The grilled shrimp skewers looked a bit plain looking but were really tasty. I would have them again. The popcorn shrimp had too much breading so were just ok if you ate them with lots of seafood cocktail sauce. The fried shrimp had hard crunchy coating (kind of hurt the teeth to chew) and pretty tasteless-no matter what you put on them. It also had a huge piece of plain-what we call air bread-French bread but still bad. The French fries were a bit soft & flavorless too. My husband had the Cioppino which was surprisingly excellent with lots of seafood-shrimp & bay shrimp, clams, crab, two types of fish-salmon & a white fish in a very nice light tomato broth. It also had tomatoes and other veggies. It came with garlic cheese bread. The most disappointing part of our meal was the clam chowder-which is not only what they say they've won awards but the restaurants namesake-Mo's Chowder House. All the wait staff wear shirts that say Chowder Patrol. It was totally tasteless. How is that possible with clams, potatoes and even a touch of bacon? It was really hard to believe that all that could have no taste-not bad and definitely not good but nothing! Someone said it could be that they add too much flour which can cause that. They really should do something different or change the name. Overall, it has some weird things that are not good but the Cioppino was so good that we would go back just for that. read more

If I'm being honest, seafood isn't really my first choice when it comes to food. I still recommended we eat here though because my boyfriend does enjoy seafood and I felt like he should experience Mo's at least once in his life, and I haven't since I was a kid. We both ordered the Cannonball Chowder Bowl (their clam chowder in a bread bowl). I was surprisingly happy with it, but bread bowls make EVERYTHING tastier. Also probably worth mentioning... I think I enjoyed it so much because I could hardly taste any clams, but lots of potatoes. This works out great for me, but could see that being an issue for someone who is *actually* looking for good clam chowder. The portion is very large (for me) and I could not finish it all which usually doesn't make me feel too good, but that's better than leaving a restaurant hungry. My boyfriend also got some oysters, which he liked. I don't think they were necessarily his favorite but I also didn't hear any complaints. The favorite part of my "meal" was my Bloody Mary and I'd recommend trying theirs if you like Bloody Mary's. My favorite part of the restaurant is the entire vibe/aesthetic/whatever and the view. It's located right on the water and helps it have a very calming, laid back feel to the place. Service was attentive, friendly and fairly quick. My only complaint though is they were seating everybody incredibly close to each other. It was pretty empty when we arrived and never got too busy during our stay, but the couple other groups of people who came in after us were seated directly in front of and behind us. Since we were sitting on benches (no backs to them), the people behind us were almost touching us the rest of the time. I think I may have actually once elbowed somebody accidentally because that's how close we were. It made me feel awkward and uncomfortable, especially knowing there were so many other empty tables they could have been seated at, with equally beautiful views. I'm sure it makes it easier for the servers to have everyone in the same area, but I felt in this case it was a little weird. Despite all that, I still had a good time and left with a full tummy, so for that I am comfortable with my A-OK rating. I don't see myself coming back anytime soon, but I'd still throw it out there to consider visiting if you love clam chowder and/or other seafood dishes, since that's what they are known for. I would just say if you end up in a similar situation of being crowded, be more bold than I was and say something about it. They seem nice enough and I am sure they would have done something to fix it without a problem if only I had voiced my issues with it. read more

Mo's is a staple in a lot of my childhood memories. My family made frequent trips to the coast and we ALWAYS stopped at Mo's for some chowder and occasionally some fried shrimp. I hadn't been in quite a while since I spent some time in Virginia but my husband and I just moved back to Oregon. We made a trip to Florence and I was so excited to go eat at Mo's because, well, it's Mo's! It unfortunately did not live up to my memories. I wanted to love it but I just didn't. Lots of sand pieces in my chowder, fries came out cold, and I expected my shrimp salad sandwich to be on a toasted bun but it was just a regular old bun. Kind of boring. I did still enjoy the fried shrimp though and the staff still as friendly as I remember. This place definitely isn't bad but it's not anything spectacular. I would recommend it as a casual place to get a cheap bowl of chowder after a day on the beach. I will return to this Mo's because I live so close to Florence now and it's still Mo's after all. I remember eating at MO's as a kid and loved the clam chowder. This trip however, left me highly disappointed. I ordered the clam chowder in a bowl. I received a stale sourdough bowl with potato chowder and maybe, just maybe, 4 clams! You failed me Mo's. The kids meals were decent, but at $6 a meal, you would hope that includes a drink?
