Boyfriend and I have lately been going to The Shack, which is literally across the street from Mo's. But tonight we decided to try this other little dive bar. Both have been staples in PDR for many many years. It was quite empty when we walked in with only two other tables occupied. Truth be told, the "ambiance" wasn't much. But we were immediately seated indoors by the window. When we were handed our menus, we saw that the food offered was a bit more varied than the usual burgers/dogs/fries/onion rings offered at these types of joints, and - BONUS - we had arrived in time for their Happy Hour!! I went for the fish and chips, while boyfriend ordered the steak sandwich. We also had a cup of the soup of the day, which was cream of mushroom. The food was tasty and we enjoyed it very much; however, the real standout of our visit was our amazing waitress, Brianna. She was so kind, professional, patient and just all-around lovely!! 4+ an old neighborhood bar that feels like it's been around for a very, very long time. Around the cluster of restaurants and bars in Playa Del Rey, this place offers up your standard type menu in addition to some elevated items such as steaks. The server I had was friendly and helpful. I was in the area, walking the dog and was trying to find something open on the later side that's dog friendly. They had a patio so it looked perfect. I ordered a beer, the soup of the day and some onion rings. I didn't want eat anything big or too much meat so this was perfect at the time. The onion rings came out hot and fresh and the clam chowder was good. The cold beer was very refreshing. All in all solid place to have a meal, especially if you live or are in the area. We absolutely love Mo's. We hadn't been here in a very long time we realized last night because it was all redone so nicely inside. It was a go to spot for our friends that moved away so a must go whenever they're in town. The food is excellent. The neighborhood cozy vibe with a yummy array of food choices. I tried everyone's food except for the turkey dip lol but that looked great too. The chicken tenders were not frozen and you could tell hand pounded just wonderful. The steaks and side salads for me always a huge hit. Juicy delicious burger with jalapeños and great fries and onion rings. I had the shrimp Caesar and ate the whole thing. Excellent service by the blonde bartender (sorry forgot your name!) need to come back again sooner than later this time. Love love this local spot. read more

Don't go to Mo's on a Wednesday night unless you are a regular. We arrived at 5:20 and was told trivia starts at 7:00 and all tables are reserved. I'm thinking that's an hour and a half, no big deal. But when it takes 25 minutes to get your drinks and almost an hour to get your food, that's not enough time. My husband was in the middle of enjoying his birthday dinner when the manager (Not sure who he was?) told us this table is reserved. I said fine, we'll move. I've been here 2x and both times the food has been incredible. The first time I tried the fish and chips and it was delicious, the fries were just OK but the fish was very good. My boyfriend had the steak sandwich and said it was amazing he keeps talking about it. Today I had the tuna melt with onion rings and it was amazing! This is the local bar where everyone knows your name and it's awesome. You refresh the chicken strips and added fries; both came out piping hot and quick. It's bar food but not boring. Great pours and fun environment, plenty of tvs for any and all sports (multiple playing at once so take your choice). Sad.. a great local hang in decline. Except for the kinship of locals, local entertainment and a dedicated service staff, there's little else to bring in, much less sustain a clientele. To whatever degree the quality food prep and barkeep expertise enjoyed, it's long gone; it's low grade ingredients combined with an unskilled kitchen. The bar..skip mixed drinks and stick to straight shots and a beer. The lower prices don't begin to offset the outstanding quality of Cantalini's right across the street... Again it's just sad. The mozzarella sticks are smaller and when I ordered it they ran out of marinara sauce. Had to use ranch. They still don't have the French dip sandwich, which was my favorite. We ordered a salad - it was tiny with rotten lettuce. Had fried shrimp appetizer - it was so overcooked I didn't know what I was eating. Tasted kind of like chicken. Potato skins were also burned, greasy, small portion, flavorless. I showed the server the rotten lettuce and explained about the other items. Decent food - wouldn't knock it, nor up-sale it, but the breakfast burrito was tasty and I'd have it again, especially at $10 a pop! Mo's loses a star for me because the pico de gallo and guacamole were a bit watery - almost like an avocado sauce instead of guacamole. The food at Mo's has been awful for a while now. Imagine a Sunday brunch without hash browns, eggs Benedict or turkey. The service is poor and the staff doesn't care, it is that bad. I have been a customer for along time and now no more. I have talked to a lot of customers and they feel the same way I do. We all love Mo, but, he is not involved anymore. We tried Mo's for the first time just recently after driving through the area. From the outside it looks like a dive bar, and I believe at one time it might have been from judging by the pool table references in their signage, but now it's more of a tavern/restaurant. They have an outdoor patio that was fairly packed when we came on a Saturday afternoon. They don't have much of a bar so the place is just a bunch of open seating inside. In terms of the food, they have the standard bar food. We were caught in the middle of the brunch/lunch transition so decided to go with lunch. The burger was decent. Service was a little slow from the kitchen but we've loved our bartender who had some great conversation. Overall we would be back, but I think this place might have been better back in its day when it was a dive bar. read more

Been going here for years. Has been a top shelf dive bar forever. Now changing a bit...trivia nights, local musicians live, etc., so it can be tough to have a conversation. Lots of TV's, and they will turn on just about any game you want to watch. Food is WAY above average for a sports bar. read more

We hadn't been here in four years because we moved to Florida, but it was nice to revisit this place again. It's been nicely updated and it's much cleaner than I remember. Food is still great, the people who work there are really accommodating. My only complaint is that they need to resurface that parking lot. The speed bumps are almost impossible to see, and the parking lot is very uneven. I almost tripped twice. Somebody should repaint those speed bumps at the very least before there is a real accident there. How much does a can of paint cost? Not much compared to a trip and fall accident and a potential lawsuit. read more
