Have you ever been in a supermarket and thought "hey, I could have a beer?" ...well here's your chance! Located in the Whole Foods Playa Vista is the Astro Pub. I came here cause we used to go to a similar spot in Whole Foods on Oahu, HI. They had super inexpensive deals on pizza and beer. This place was a little different, but it didn't disappoint. Their happy hour deals are reasonably priced, their staff is friendly, and they have a large convenient parking structure right across from the market. If you ever get bored, there's so much to do in this little self sustaining city. Just take a short walk to the movies, ice cream shop, or any of the other restaurant bars in the area. read more

A pub inside of a Whole Foods!?! I saw a similar thing at WF Pasadena last month so it was cool to see it here in WF Playa Vista. Initially we came to WF for the salad bar but Astro Pub caught our attention. Especially since I saw a good amount of icons indicating vegan items on the menu. That always makes me happy :) The Beast Burger sounded good to me on paper because it uses Beyond Meat burger patty, Chao cheese slices, grilled onions, and guacamole. It also comes with lettuce, tomatoes, and pickle slices. The top part of the bun was strangely yet significantly smaller in diameter than the bottom part of the bun. This dish was okay for what it was. I definitely felt like it could've used some oomph. Perhaps a vegan aioli? The guac was a bit tasteless. I do gotta give credit to the Meateater BF for this helpful hack: insert the fries into the burger itself. Much better! http://bit.ly/1GqYji0 The Tater Tots really blew us away! Much bigger than your average tot, these had a delicious crispy crust and perfectly tender inside stuffed not only with potato but also with a bit of vegan cheese and herbs. I honestly don't get the bad reviews as I go to this pub all the time and not once i've had a bad service. The first time we came, we were greeted and sat by a bubbly waitress and she was so nice to take the time to explain the daily specials which are an awesome deal for any restaurant and getting this from WF is a plus. Our favorite is the 5 Taco special with your choice of beer or wine. The wine pour is generous and the house special is actually pretty good. Their skillet specials are also pretty awesome and can serve up to 2 people. We will be moving to the Runway apartments in 2 weeks so I am super excited to be living by this pub. read more

When you need a break from shopping amongst the techies coming here on their lunchbreak , pop into the pub and toss back a cold one. It's a little weird that people can bring their groceries and or salad bar food into the actual pub and eat there. So I guess it's byob and byof. I don like you can substitute a different beverage on their food and brew happy hour specials. read more

Astro Pub has an awesome lunch special: burger, fries & beer for $12. Pretty good, huh? The burger was great and so were the fries. In fact, you have a few options with your sides. If I remember correctly, they were hashbrowns, rosemary garlic fries or onion rings. I had the rosemary fries and loved how tasty they were! You also have a choice on cheese. I went with Provolone and added an extra of bacon. Avocado is also an option, for an extra $1. The beer selection is pretty good, as well. They have light, dark, IPAs and ciders. My favorite thing about Astro Pub was that it didn't feel like you were eating in a market. Granted Whole Foods is a great market and the shopping experience is always pleasant, it still didn't feel like you were eating at Whole Foods. The ambiance and decor were fun and it didn't feel like a grocery store environment. Two thumbs up for Astro Pub! read more

Originally planned to give a 2 star rating... but after adding some notes in here about the great daily specials and the nice service... I bumped up a star. BUTT... yes, I guess this was kind of like a "Welcome to Playa Vista" reality check for me... where you have to pay $7-$9 for a 4 piece dragon roll -_- lol What a rip. And that roll was in no way anything special... I don't think I have ever seen any Japanese restaurant make a 4 piece dragon roll before (practically 3.5 piece because one piece was a really small piece that was falling apart). And so my original 2 stars rating was specifically for their "sushi" options because those are kind of ridiculous. HOWEVER, there are 2 things worth mentioning that would bring me back here despite my terrible sushi experience: - I saw on the menu that they have some pretty awesome daily specials; Tuesday special is 5 tacos + a beer of your choice for $10 which is a really sweet deal. - Service was also really nice and friendly And that's about it. I will probably be stopping by Whole Foods for lunch every so often... but not sure if I'll be stopping by here again... We shall see~ read more

Nothing special about Astro Pub. The food isn't super pricey considering it's inside a Whole Foods. And there are week day happy hour specials that sound like a steal! There's a wide range of craft beers to try. Service was a little slow. There were open seats but we waited about 5 minutes for a table because the host was just walking around chit chatting. When we were sat, I asked about the menu and he didn't really know how to talk about it. Ordered the herbed shrimp skillet. It came with 10 shrimps and French bread to soak up all the butter sauce. I thought that the bread should have been toasted and made crispy and that there should have been more garlic. The second dish we ordered was sriracha chicken wings. They had a nice kick but it wasn't crispy and it was the drummette part of the wing, which I like less. read more

I guess we have gotten lucky, seeing these other poor reviews. My husbamd and I are both picky, and we have had Happy Hour dinner here two weeks in a row, which says a lot. Our server both times was STACY and she is GREAT ! We thought the burgers (grass fed) were good. They were not fancy, but they were juicy, fairly large, and on a nicely toasted brioche bun. With a beer (normally $7 on its own), $10 for a good big burger and a draft beer (any from the large list) is a deal. Tonight we had the "house wine and cheese plate Tuesday Happy Hour special." We ordered one glass of white and one red, and we both thought they were surprisingly good. Not just "not bad", but actually good, and we are wine people. We have had much worse wines by the glass at much better restaurants. The cheese plate was beyond generous; there were four different cheeses on each of our plates, and olives, fig spread, and very good crackers. The cheeses were quite varied and "premium", and we came home with a huge "to go" container. We will be back for Taco Tuesday, and I plan to bring my friend for the fish and chips Friday. We started going to Astro Pub when Whole Paycheck first opened. It's gone through changes and price increases. The daily specials aren't as cheap as they used to be but they're still a pretty good deal, especially the Thursday $12 grass-fed burger & fries + brew, and the Friday $12 fish & chips + brew. The staff is always friendly. FYI: although the close time is officially 10:00 p.m., they stop serving food at 9:00 p.m. and drinks at 9:30 p.m. It's lame that they close the kitchen so early, and might as well list their close time as 9:00 p.m. read more

IT'S INSIDE OF WHOLE FOODS. I wish I knew that before coming here because I was walking around this complex looking for it. I don't recommend the ramen, especially if you're a ramen lover. You will be disappointed by the edible but dumbed-down ramen served here. BEST PART: no corkage fee. Buy a beer or wine and sit here and drink. That seems like the largest benefit to this place. Vegan options: I was happy to see that there were several options for my partner and I. We ordered 4 sushi rolls: 2 Orchids, 1 Mango, and 1 firecracker for the two of us, since they are smaller than traditional sushi rolls. The black rice was a nice touch. My favorite was the firecracker! The chili cheese fries were very yummy. The fries themselves were delicious! Seating: Your options are the bar or cute and cozy booths. We chose the booth and loved it. Service: We were promptly seated and service was excellent. The servers were very kind and courteous. Updating my review because service here is horrible. Bf and I decided to stop by For a beer and happy hour. No host was present and we stood in the front waiting for someone's attention. I saw one of the bartenders clearing up a table so just decided to walk in and ask if we can seat ourselves. He said "sure". So we seated ourselves and looked at the menu. Sat there for a good 10 mins....not one server came by. Nothing. The bartender that I spoke with earlier even saw us seating ourselves and continued to ignore us and proceed with cleaning the bar. He even poured a Glass for someone at the bar. Understood that where we sat may not have been his section, but the least he could've done was tell a server that we were waiting. Walked out and left. No one even noticed. Made a better choice and had happy hour next door at HOPDODDY where the servers were 100x better and were glad to be of service. Astro pub...start hiring people that want to be in the service industry and take pride in their jobs because from the looks of other Reviews...this seems to be your biggest problem that you haven't bothered to fix. read more

Don't understand all the bad reviews about the slow service. We've been here twice and received very friendly & speedy service. In addition, our waitress & waiter, were a step ahead of us; as if they knew we'd need something before we even had to ask. Their Brussel Sprouts are outrageously good! And one of the main reasons why we went back 2 weeks later for a second visit. Perfectly roasted & flavorful! Nice size portion for only 6 bucks! Calamari is good...lightly fried & dusted (no oily squid here!) and it's very tender & not chewy. But they add a little too much spicy seasoning to the batter mix. Large portion only 8 bucks! Fish & Chips? The beer battered texture is perfect! The fish inside is extremely fresh, moist & buttery! But they add a little too much salt to the beer batter mix. The French Fries? Outstanding! Especially if you order them well done without salt. Huge portion 10 bucks! Flat Bread Pizza is enormous & tasty...and only 8 bucks! And...they even offer a vegan cheese (made with almond milk -- not soy) for no additional charge. We're big fans of Astro Pub...it's a Grand Slam...and you get a lot of bang for your buck! read more

So excited that we finally have a Whole Foods on this side of town, and even better it has a pretty tasty pub! We were sat relatively quickly for a Sunday evening. The wait was only about 15 minutes for a party of two. We ordered the market oysters, Niçoise salad and poutine Bulgogi. Everything was exceptionally good, but the poutine Bulgogi was GREAT. If you like potatoes, cheese and meat... You won't regret ordering this. Looking forward to trying more from this menu the next time I find myself hungry while grocery shopping ^_^ read more

Service stinks. Sitting here right this second on a Sunday PM. Been 15 minutes I kid you not. Not even a hello by the server. Will the people sitting next to me finish their whole meal before we get served? I'll let you know. 7:12 PM: 3 minutes after I hit post the waiter came after I asked the hostess to please get us a server. Ordered 1 beer, 2 waters, fish chip, kid's chix tenders a tiger roll, calamari. Will further continue play by play. 7:16 PM: Got our water and beer. But table next to us are all in the middle of their meal...and they noticed....they already asked for their check. 7:24: Wow...a quick recovery. Calamari and tiger roll came out. No utensils though. Had to get it from the bar. 7:26: Next table jetted out of here. Still waiting for fish chips and chix tenders for kid. 7:30: Got fish chips and chix tenders. BTW, this place has totally cleared. The level of service better improve quick. 7:38: Asked for a to go box for chix tenders and a 2nd beer. 7:44: Still waiting...remember, this place has cleared. 7:46: Just saw same waiter open a soda can for a table...it sprayed all over their food. ha ha. 7:48: Reminded waiter about my beer. He made it sound like the bartender or whomever still needed to pour it....but then I see him reaching over and getting a pint glass to pour it himself. BS!!! Read the reviews about this place and was really excited to try it. Came here tonight with the husband for date night. Ordered a Moscow mule ($7 during happy hour) and an Avery white rascal ($4 during happy hour). The beer was alright; good value. The Moscow mule did not come in a copper mug and it was mostly ice. Meh. Happy hour is from 4 to 7 and is $2 off beers, cocktails, and wine. We also got the bulgogi poutine ($10), the kale salad ($8), and the fig and prosciutto ($12). The salad was huge! It was just alright. I was expecting it to be more tart since it was a lemon dressing. The bulgogi poutine was a misnomer. It was not bulgogi on top. It was pork belly. The potatoes were alright but the dish fell flat. The fig and prosciutto was meh. The crust didn't have any flavor and was too dry. There wasn't enough prosciutto. The toppings fell off when you pick up a slice. The chef was a little heavy handed with the Gorgonzola. Service was a little slow. I still haven't gotten a refill on my water. The table we got (after a 15 minute wait) was teeny tiny. We had trouble eating the salad because the salad plate plus 2 small plates took up the entire table and then some. Yikes. Never again. Drink was terrible, I didn't touch it. Service was non existent and not helpful. When I asked for my check, they overcharged me. Instead of grabbing the menu so that we could clear up the overcharge, I was simply blamed that I must have read that I just was reading about a side of guacamole. Uh no...and oddly the menu that had it was nowhere to be found after happy hour. Also they only brought me the merchant copy to sign, I did not get a copy of anything including my debit card copy for my records. I work near here so I've stopped by several times for something to grub on.... every single time I have to wait around 30+ minutes no matter what I order. My husband and I came here for the first time last night for dinner. It was crowded, we ended up eating at the long table in the center. Our hostess, who was also our server with nice eyebrows, was really nice and attentive. This is what we ordered: Cheeseburger and fries- amazing! Ordered the burger patty medium and it was cooked to perfection. The patty was so juicy. Other burger restaurants always over cook the patty but not at Astro's. Fries were so good and crunchy, not soggy and overcooked. A plus for serving organic ketchup & mustard. Oysters- six oysters for $6! The oysters that night was good. They were the small kind. I heard they serve different types of oysters depending on the day. Shrimp Skillet- shrimp cooked with a butter, garlic, and herbs sauce served with 3 slices of a sour dough bread. Although the shrimps were small in size, this dish had so much flavor. I even dipped the fries in the sauce. This gastro pub inside Whole Foods is surprisingly good and surprisingly cheap! $6 for 6 oysters. Tasty wings and burger with fries. Only annoying thing was server didn't take last calls before the kitchen closed and this fatty wanted to order more. It always seems busy because it's small and happenin. Tucked away in the back corner of Whole Foods is a cute little sports bar. We were seated quickly and our server was there right away taking drinks. Poutine bulgogi - this is delicious and it's huge. Easily feeds 5 people as an appetizer. The meat had loads of good flavor and there was enough cheese and gravy to cover the whole skillet. Split the nicoise salad with my mom and there was a good amount of all the tasty stuff in there. I wish I had requested for the salad to be tossed because the plate that it's served on is too small to properly toss the salad. Classic burger - I didn't get it but my brother ate the whole thing and he really enjoyed it Fish and chips - this came out last when everyone else had almost finished their food. How much time do you have? On an hour lunch break? Skip it. Service here is slower than molasses on a cold day. I've been thrice and have experienced the same thing each time. My first visit was on my break, and by the time my food arrived, I had about 30 seconds to eat it. I've gone during the non-lunch rush and the same deal twice. But assuming you have all day to wait around, the experience is otherwise acceptable. Did someone say taco Tuesday? The quality and taste of the tacos and the shells vary on occasion. But they are typically pretty good and pretty freakin delicious. The spicy chicken tacos are really hot and so is the salsa, so American people be careful lol. Living down the street I come here with my girlfriend every so often. The great thing is you can buy alcohol off the shelf and they will open it or uncork it at no charge. The food here is less than average. Pass on the flatbread pizza and fish and chips. Fish and chips were too breaded. I ended up just taking the fish out of the breading and eating it separately. The food that whole foods is so much better. Although Astro Pub is new, they need to work on their food big time. I advise them to hire Gordon Ramsay! Service is good. read more

Flat breads and burger are good, and the vegan fries are really good. I was a huge fan of this spot until they changed the price for their oysters. I used to come here just for their oysters because of price and taste (they were so good). They used to have 6 oysters for $6, but now they're 6 oysters for $12... :( In regards to parking they validate your first hour of parking in the structure, which many of the surrounding restaurants don't. If you don't mind walking, park in the surrounding neighborhood. read more
