Single fish taco comes with lots of fixins. The Smithwick's on tap was an absolute delight.

I used to come here for a fun Friday lunch with coworkers years ago. Happened to be by and got the single fried fish taco for $5.99 that is an actual meal in itself. There are two tortillas and enough fish etc to make 2 tacos, plus chips, salsa, and some fresh veg for good measure. With a proper beer - Smithwick's even! - it came to around $16. (Before tip) The service was good, the people there were nice. The smell when I walked it... it's just an old bar, it is what it is.

Visiting Los Angeles in January, I wanted to watch a Liverpool match and found this terrific gem of a place. It's the official home of the L.A. fans of LFC, and it did not disappoint. The servers were welcoming and warm, and the atmosphere was energetic and fun.

We wanted to bar hop around the area and this was our first stop. The bar was not busy and they had a movie playing on the big screen until the DJ showed up. The bartender is attentive and the bar maid was kind enough to give us free fries because my friend asked for a snack. They have a pool table for cheap plays which was fun challenging my friend to a few games.

This is wings with sauce just poured over. Not good.

So my friend and I went here after umpiring a baseball game. Ordered the chicken wings and chicken nachos. The chicken nachos came without the chicken but we didn't have time to send back. We made sure we weren't charged. The nachos were a plate of chips with melted shredded cheese, not even melted well. The cheese would just fall off the chips. The wings were not any better. They were just cooked wings put on a plate with sauce pouted over them, instead of tossed in sauce the put on plate. The beer and sprit selection was good. The sound system that was playing was terrible. Speakers kept cutting in and out depending on the sound. Be warned.

This is truly one of my favorite Liverpool official fan club bars. Nothing like showing up to 8:30 am games with other fans and watching your team play over some eggs, toast, potatoes, and beer. I really can only speak of their morning vibes and everyone there is great. I do recommend getting there early for big EPL games as they do tend to get so crowded. Even if you're not a big soccer fan or a Liverpool fan go for the vibes and a good time.

The cocktail menu looked good, but the one I ordered tasted simple. Decent for the price, but not something I'd go out of my way for.

There is a category of Los Angeles bar that exists outside the city's relentless cycle of openings…read moreand closings and soft launches and Instagram hype, a category that doesn't require a door policy or a design concept borrowed from a Wes Anderson film. It is the bar that walks in and earns the neighborhood's trust in a few short years, the bar that feels like it's been there forever because it figured out immediately what it was supposed to be. Tiny's Hi-Dive on Pico is that bar. It occupies the old Arsenal space, which if you've been in West LA long enough you watched go through its own identity crisis -- I had a trip-hop DJ residency there in a previous life, before it transmogrified into some paisley-wallpapered ersatz club that couldn't decide what it wanted to be. Tiny's has no such confusion. The name says dive. The floors say otherwise. The cocktails are made well, the food is made well, and the place is clean, which shouldn't be noteworthy but in a city where "dive bar" has become shorthand for either performative squalor or actual squalor, it is. It's a Chicago bar, which in Los Angeles means something specific. It means the hot dogs are correct. It means there are Italian beef sandwiches, and the Italian beef sandwiches are not a novelty item or a nod to a trend but an actual offering from people who understand the architecture of giardiniera and jus and thinly sliced beef on a roll that's engineered to get soggy at exactly the right rate. The food at Tiny's is way better than it has any right to be in a bar where nobody would blame you for ordering nothing but beer, and this is the tell -- when a bar kitchen is good without needing to be good, it means someone in the back actually gives a damn, not because the Yelp reviews demand it but because that's how they were raised. The happy hour lasts most of the day, which is either a business model or a philosophy, and at Tiny's the distinction is academic. The effect is that the place fills in waves and each wave brings a different crowd. The retirement set drifts in around lunch -- guys who've been coming here long enough to have a spot at the bar and a drink that appears without being ordered. By happy hour the mix gets eclectic: locals, people waiting out the particular misery of westbound Pico traffic at five-thirty, students, the kind of neighborhood cross-section that only happens at a place where a beer and a hot dog won't cost you twenty dollars. Later it gets busier and louder and on Wednesday nights there's live band karaoke, which is the superior form of karaoke, the form where actual musicians play behind you so your version of "White Wedding'" sounds ten percent less terrible than it would over a backing track. The jukebox is killer, which is a small detail that is not a small detail. A jukebox tells you everything about who owns a bar -- whether they trust their customers, whether they have taste, whether they understand that the difference between a good night and a great night is often just the right song at the right moment. The owners of Tiny's understand this. They are truly excellent people, the kind of owner-operators who are in the room and who care about the room and who have built a place that reflects something genuine about themselves rather than something calculated about the market. West Los Angeles is not a neighborhood that gets romanticized. It's a place you drive through, a stretch of Pico and Olympic and Santa Monica Boulevard that connects the Westside to the rest of the city, lined with strip malls and dry cleaners and the kind of mid-century commercial architecture that nobody photographs. It does not have a brand. It does not have a moment. What it has, on Pico, is Tiny's Hi-Dive -- a bar where they learn your dog's name before they learn yours, where there are treats behind the bar, where the bartenders will ask about your dog when you come in and mourn with you when they pass. That's not a pet policy. That's a value system. And it tells you everything you need to know about the place.

The food is your typical bar food, consisting of burgers, wings and salads, nothing special. We ordered: "Southwest Chicken Caesar salad". Ordering is a breeze with the QR code system, and we lucked out by arriving during happy hour (Monday-Friday, 2-6 PM). Great deals on both food and drinks made it even better. I had the BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger with a wagyu patty and a soft, fluffy bun. At first, I missed the usual lettuce and tomato, but honestly ended up loving it just the way it came--I'd definitely order it again, especially at just $10. The happy hour fries were a standout too: crispy, well-seasoned, and a solid value. They've also got solid pizzas, a good beer lineup, and a surprisingly nice wine list. Their comfy vibes, rustic decor, high ceilings, banquets and pool table are like a homecoming me. Which makes writing this bad review ever more painful to do. Because I've given this place a bunch of chances and want it to be great...but it just ain't and as long as management allows their staff to f*ck off it will never be more than it's current mediocre self. The food is passable enough...typical pub food that is fine for what it is. The problems start and end with their bartenders...they are lazy, grouchy, inattentive and downright rude. In the last three months I've gone in multiples times and was left standing at the bar for 10-15mins before a bartender even looked at me. And no...they weren't busy. The last time was at around 5pm on a weekday...I just wanted a smooth pint of Guinness on my way home from work. There were 4-5 people at the bar and a few ppl playing pool...not busy. There were a few dirty pints strewn up and down the bar with some crumpled up napkins and the bartender stood at the far end of the bar near the kitchen. She glanced up at me and then went back to talking to her friend (who didn't work there and was behind the freakin' bar). No urgency, no "hello", no acknowledgement, no..."I'll be right with you". I tried to get her attention, but ended up leaving without ever getting acknowledged. This has happened over and over again and I won't be back. I wish the owner would get his sh*t together.
