Had to pay a visit to the famous Mory's while in New Haven. The food was decent enough but hardly amazing. What you really come here for is the atmosphere. Of course we had to have one of Mory's Famous Cups, and it was a blast to pass around the big trophy, drink some mystery green champagne concoction, and follow rules of the Cups. (yes, the Cup comes with a printed set of rules to follow.) After dinner we went to the tap room in back and had a drink. Great place to catch some sports, have a beer, and feel like you went back in time. I would definitely recommend coming here at least once for the experience, although I think you'll like Mory's more if you come thirsty and not hungry. read more

The food is bad and way overpriced. The cups are fun (but weak... so bring your own alcohol and spike it). Toasting is also an experience that you must do as an undergrad, even if in this day and age, it feels a bit forced. I'm always confused as to why people would actually eat here on a regular basis. As a Yale Student, I have always heard stories about the famous Mory's. I do not have a membership myself but, as a Yale student, I can become a member right away. Hah, very exclusive boys. Needless to say I will not be getting a membership! I went with some friends of mine and was unbelievably disappointed. My experience there last week was horrible. The friends that took me were mortified because it had been several months since they were there last and were shocked at how down hill the place has gone. Our experience was so bad, from the food to service and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, the indifferent management that I will never set foot in that place again and my friends will not be renewing their memberships. I asked around and turns out the place did used to be great since they reopened it a couple of years ago but has really gotten out of touch over the last month or so. I'm told that there used to be this really great female manager that ran the place who really made it all about the students but the old man we had an experience with last week was a far cry from that. His views on students and their involvement of Mory's is so demeaning and, well indifferent, that I have never felt more uncomfortable in an establishment. Guess he doesn't realize we students are the future of that place or any other place with a very aging membership, smh. If you are looking for a great place to gather with fellow STUDENTS, this is not the place for you. I do hear they are really relaxing their drinking policies, allowing underage kids way more opportunities to drink there, so at least they have that going for them, hence the second star in the review. read more

I've been once for Alumni event and once for a college-sponsored event. The only reason why I enjoyed it for either was that I did not have to pay for either the food or the wine. The food is honestly mediocre, nothing special, but I guess the lure of Mory's is more for the history than the food. Still, not worth getting a membership or paying for the food. read more

We were taken here for lunch on our first visit to Yale and its fabulous art museums. What a great place with stellar atmosphere and history. Loved every moment spent there and the chicken salad was pretty good too. read more

I really want to like this place but they make it so hard! It's not a bad place to go for a drink after work but the food is pretty awful. The risotto was good. The vegetable panini was a bunch of bland, soggy veggies on barely toasted whole grain bread. The salads are meager -- the house salad advertises blue cheese but my salad only came with a little 1"x1" slice, why even put it in the description? The veggie burgers are mush! However, I think there is a new veggie burger now. The caprese salad was served without basil. Unfortunately, I have to eat here often with colleagues. Service is good--go sit in the bar and have a few drinks with friends or colleagues; I just wish they would do something about the food! read more

four stars relative to old mory's. it is much more airy and bright in the dining room. awesome, but tiny bloody marys. fries are great, not much on the menu, save salads, for vegans and the like. servers and staff are all very nice. read more

Lunched here with my resident friend. The service was very good and my food was excellent. Had the Thai Tofu Curry dish and it blew my mind. Tofu was done just right and the curry sauce was not too creamy nor too spicy. I think I have dreamed of it since and am sad that it is so far away. Great atmosphere and decor as well. read more

I have not been to Mory's since it's resurrection from what we all thought would be its demise, but the criticisms of the food prior to its closing for renovations are certainly true. As my wife will attest, the food was not very good (especially compared to the Nassau Inn in Princeton, which actually has good food). The point of being a member was just the experience of hanging out and drinking with friends - and carving our initials in the tables and booths with pocket knives - which I am led to understand is no longer permitted. After the re-opening, I rejoined and am still hoping to get back to New Haven one of these days to visit, this time bringing my sons so they can share in the experience (they think Rubio's Fish Tacos and Kraft Mac & Cheese are culinary delights, so they won't be scared off by the Welsh Rarebit). Perhaps I can convince them that they do NOT want to go to Harvard and MIT. read more

Atmosphere passable, but MUCH better than the food. I heard about the famous Mory's for years and this was my first visit. The sweet potato fries are fabulous, but the veggie burger was a great disappointment. Overcooked, dry and non-seasoned. Would I return? Probably not. read more

Mory's is better than ever. The new building is beautiful and retains the best of the old, while adding more space, variety, warm style and gracious character. Eating in any one of the 7 or so different environments is a different experience. Entertainment is also becoming more richly varied, without losing the traditions. New traditions-intellectual, social, musical-- are being created with care. The food is excellent and the menu is broad, with specials. I like the burgers, made with really dine chopped beef. The traditional Indian Pudding and "Rabbit" are also available. Unique Mory's Cups of different persuasions are a great way to enhance the social ambience, and many are consumed. No wonder the pub often stays busy late into the evening. Students, Faculty, Alumni, and the wider community are now frequenting Mory's as never before. They make Mory's a great restaurant that is still in many ways a club. But now it's not exclusive. For me, a burger, a beer, and catching some real live music are a perfect way to spend an evening---at Mory's. What other place can match it? read more

The menu is limited but most of the items are legendary and have stood the test of time and the general populations changing pallette. The building is beautiful and management has done a great job resurrecting the restaurant after it fell into financial difficulty. read more

We went with a group of 6 for a bite to eat before the Yale vs. Dartmouth Hockey game. We went early as a friend told us this place gets packed by 5- he was right, it was jammed by the time we left. We sat in the Temple grill room. I ordered the fish and chips, it was outstanding!! The coating on the cod was light and crunchy, not greasy at all. The chips (or fries) were well browned with a nice but not overwhelming seasoning. My friend ordered the mushroom risotto and house salad, and declared both delicious too. Despite the crowd, our service never felt rushed, and our waiter was attentive but not overbearing. Thank you Morys chef and staff for a fun and yummy experience! read more

I've been here four times over the past two months and I see myself coming back again. Vegan burger is available even on its simple, one-page menu after lunch hours. We sat outside the bar under the sun. Great way to enjoy a beautiful afternoon. Dinner menus offer more choices than the one for Saturday brunch. So if you're bringing guests along, be ware of the limited choices turkey burger, classic cheese burger, vegan burger, fish and chips, fried chicken wings. That's about it. Good rice pudding though. It's called the President's rice pudding because, as we were told, Peter Salovey loves it and the chef knew so added this item on the menu when he took office. The servers could use a little training to up their service quality. Not attentive enough as you'd expect for a club. Unlike the receptionists, who are always a pleasure to meet and speak with. read more

I make it a point to come here at least once a month since they reopened in 2010. They had made great strides in making their food and service top notch. My last visit in January 2012 was horrible. All of my friends had the same to say about their experience that day as well. The food was not at all the same quality or appetizing in appearance as in previous visits. I asked our server (who was fantastic) to ask the Chef to come to the table since I had spoken to him in the past and was always very accommodating. As it turned out he no longer works there and the acting Chef refused to come to the table since he is only there as a consultant. I told our server that he truly is "acting" as a Chef with the food we were served and was outraged at his response. This is something that would have happened at the old Mory's. As a member I had really hoped they had turned this place around. They had my mind changed until now. read more
