If I wrote this review after my first visit I would say that this is the best banh mi O have had in Hon Kong. However, the second time around the bread wasn't as fresh and didn't have the crunchy exterior that I hope for in a baguette. This is probably because I had the sandwich close to dinner time. At fresh you got your selection of breads, cheeses, and meats all of which taste fresh (hence the name?) and unprocessed. The same can't be said for those square or triangular pieces of cheese - which are probably not far off from being actual plastic! To this day I'll pop in once a week or so and order a turkey and cheddar baguette. "Mayonnaise, butter and salad?" the waiter behind the counter asks. I take a touch of mayonnaise and the salad just to feel like I'm a healthy person rather than for the taste of it. For the five or so minutes it takes to create it I normally have a read through the weekly HK mag, or just sit and watch people walk by, feeling extremely fortunate to not have a job requiring a suit - it's 38 degrees in the shade for crying out loud! Though there are a few seats available indoors I'm normally in a rush no matter what time of day it is. Once my ordered is ready I hand over $70, snatch at the fat, crunchy baguette, and send a silent prayer of thanks to the man, or woman, who created the sandwich. The price is right. I also went to the one at Harbour Terminal which offered a window seat with the panoramic night harbour view. And for the same price, that's a deal.
