I shop here as my regular supermarket in the neighborhood when I need a routine item in a pinch or for some good sales on ice cream or meats, or for a pre- made sandwich( which is a great deal along with the 9.99 rotisserie chicken). The staff upfront and in the sandwich sections are very nice and accommodating. When shopping, be selective like you would in any supermarket. The place is not set up for fresh fish and extensive delicacies, but holds its own as a bulwark supermarket in the neighborhood. read more

The roach problem is real. However, I am giving two stars for their selection of sauces, seasonings, and frozen not commonly found in area grocery stores. Morton Williams is one of the several places where I shop. I like it because it has a large selection of European products like biscuits, jams, bottled sauces and chocolate bars. In fact, there is a section entirely devoted to all kinds of goodies. I also like the diary section as it has yogurts and one in particular which came out last year from Haagen Dazs. Their yogurts, while expensive at $2.59 each, are delicious and I often put granola on them. Bunches of cilantro are are $2.49 but this bunch is large and worth buying. The prepared foods are unappetizing and the cold cuts dismal. The manager and the ladies who work here are helpful and even take you to the section in case one gets lost. This supermarket is big and well stocked. The ice cream section always has customers looking through it and when the weekly sales come out the $6 for two Haagen Dazs is a steal. I pick up coffee and strawberry. There is a table in front of the diary section which is stocked with French and Belgian biscuits usually 2 packets for either $6 or $7 and I have been buying these for many years. As the biscuits come wrapped in fours it makes a nice treat to share with friends. The lighting in this supermarket is bright and always feels welcomed even when the weather outside may look grim. read more

I had a ridiculous experience here recently. Tsk, tsk, tsk... *numerous sighs* I know damn well that I went to remedial school. However, the guy who checked me out at the counter apparently did not. He proceeded to argue with me about the price of things on the checkout belt. He says the shredded cheese I bought isn't on sale, that it's only the cheddar flavor, not all the varieties. I say no, it clearly says all varieties on the grocery store flier, which I proceed to show him. He 'corrects' me again, even after seeing the flier -_- So I facetiously say, 'That's funny, cause even the cheddar flavor didn't ring up at the sale price.' He glares at me. He's CLEARLY wrong, but in his mind he's right. As I'm about to leave the store and leave my groceries on the checkout counter with no warning to 'duh-dee', he says 'I'll go fix these for you, but I'm only doing it this one time.' And then I add, 'The tropicana also didn't ring up correctly as well.' First of all, you're not doing me a favor and I'm not grateful. The effing items are clearly on sale in the damn flier!! I've lived in the neighborhood for decades and shopped at Morton Williams frequently. The staff used to be much more friendly. The old manager was so great they gave him a promotion to a fancier location. The new manager is so grouchy and the staff seems to have very low standards of customer service now. I like a lot of the products and selection. They have good sales from time to time as well. There are often mismarked prices on the items and the current manager is very not accommodating to the customers. He is a very ill mannered man. I would think they could hire someone with better social skills in this town. Really dreadful experience shopping in this store. Cashiers checking out the next customer before I've even bagged my groceries. Exceeding rude personnel in the front office and on the checkout line. They definitely do not know what the term "customer service" means. The manager sets the tone here. The one thing this store has going for them is that they are open until 1am. The staff is generally much more courteous late a night. I think the grouchy manager goes home after 10pm. read more

Tried to order online delivery. Was called to get my credit card information. The girl on the phone (I'll omit her name) was friendly enough, I had a few questions and she asked me to speak up. I'm at home with a 1 yr old and am a covid RN and work overnight. Have to keep my voice down when baby and me are catching zz's. Anyway, I asked her the total for the delivery before I gave her the credit number and she basically hung up on me wout any info. Which is SUPER SKETCHY I called the store back to cancel the order, and was patched through to an absolute crab of a woman who also hung up on me. Around this area, "Morton Williams" has to be one of the best choices to do grocery shopping. The prices are reasonable, the selection is excellent, and the customer service is very good. I first stumbled upon this store while strolling around with Mark (side note: Mark was VERY impressed). Though there are no "discounts" (as "D'Agastino's" has), "Morton Williams" has great prices (that are unlike the area). I have not written a review in a long time, but for my last experience/interaction here, I thought I might as well post about it-- I forgot a bag of groceries at the store and called them up explaining that I had left a bag there. They were professional about it and I came in with my receipt the following day. No problems whatsoever. Many stores would give me many problems... I now prefer to go here over Trader Joe's. this morton williams supermarket in the kips bay section of manhattan is basically like most mortys in nyc, rude cashiers , high prices unless its on sale , inventory is better then average and if you live in the area , its the best you can do unless you go to queens or the burbs. they do have a cafe /grill section where you can get something to eat and drink like pizza ,coffee, sandwiches, etc. i stopped by to get a few cans of cesare dog food and some fruits before heading to my pad and i doled out 33 bucks and honestly i didnt get much overall. its a basic nyc supermarket with the basic nyc prices , the basic nyc market goods and your basic non friendly cashiers .lets be nice and give 3 stars to morty and company. read more

One of the worst experiences with the girl working the deli. Sage was rude, impatient, and offered little to no help. Haven't a clue why the negative reviewers feel as they do. This market is relatively clean and laid out well. I'm usually a regular at D'agostinos, which is a lot closer. However, this place has an infinitely better selection. Produce section isn't outstanding, but it's fine on the scale of Manhattan markets. I've certainly never seen any vermin. Of course the checkout girls are rude, evil trash, who should be strangled upon emerging from the womb. That's a generic situation that affects all Manhattan supermarkets. Yesterday we got a mid-afternoon main meal from the food bar and we ate it there (they have a decent amount of seating in the cafe). The food was fairly tasty, but we avoided getting certain items that didn't look fresh (for example, the fish). The cost was $7.99/pound. The cashier was friendly and she willingly gave us large cups of water (I mention the latter because lots of food bar places refuse such requests). This place is good for the basics. But not good for selection. Their dairy section is ok. Deli bar and prepped foods absolutely suck. Bread selection is dismal. I've even seen moldy bread on the shelves. I'm not saying kinda moldy I'm saying COVERED in mold. Produce section is ok. Prices are decent. Its fresh for the most part. Again its good for the basics. Fruits veggies potatoes onions garlic jalapenos lettuce cilantro cucumbers. You get the point. A little bit of organic and citrus as well. Rest of products are pretty standard. They have most things but not a large variety of each. Good if you just need some basic stuff or one or two ingredients for dinner. Beer is pretty good selection but grossly overpriced. Meat section has the basics as well. Small cuts. Small packages. You can find your standard beef chicken and pork. Ground. Steaks. Sausages. Bacon. Etc. Nothing outstanding though. This place is pretty bad, I don't do my typical grocery shopping here, I've stopped by if I needed like, one thing. And in doing that each time I've been weirded out. When I walked in there were three women who worked there talking really loudly and dramatically about some man who just came in and tried to steal something and they had some all out brawl about it. Everything is all at least 50-80% more than at Trader Joes or Fairway. All products are just normal stuff, they don't have any organic products. I think there's a deli in the back that I see most people at..would not recommend. Morton Williams has been a leader in the New York City supermarket scene for a long time. The food, though at times, is super expensive, however the quality is good. They have good bagels, especially the onion. Jeff eats the onion bagel often. Our poor dog Rupie hates it when Jeff kisses her, and she often avoids her at the onion bagel. But the most important thing is the bags. So high quality, so amazing, they hold so much. And the cashiers are always generous with them. I don't know what's going to happen with the ban. The bags were leaders in the community. Go to D'Agostino or Gurlidedes and the bags will rip. Not here. Hats off to you Morton WIlliams! read more

I just returned from a shopping trip and I am so totally disgusted. I normally only shop there for sale items but today I noticed that they had a salad dressing flavor that I like that they don't normally carry. I was sure to check the expiration date because in the past I purchased one that was expired by a few months. There was not one dressing of this particular flavor that was not expired most were from 2018 and there was even one from 2017. What really has me perplexed is that they do not normally carry this dressing flavor and there were a lot of them on the shelf all expired. I have noticed this a lot with the yogurt as well - not expired over a year but still expired. And not just one container but multiple. At they deli counter, they hate whites. I asked to speak with a store manager regarding my experience at the deli counter today, and they announced him to come to the customer service area but after 5 min he was a no show... I had to really bad experiences here today. I've had others in the past, but today I wanted to speak with a manager... He was no where to be found. Walked in at 12 noon stood at the deli counter while the young black deli - man clerk was helping someone with sliced meat and the older black deli clerk gentleman was stocking the display with egg salad, tuna, etc. He knew I was standing there and some one who had taken food from the self service hot bar could not fit the lids on the container and stood at the other end of the deli counter from where I was and the clerk walked away to the other end of the counter to help the guy put lids on his food. Then he had a two minute conversation with this guy. Then he returned to continue loading up the display with egg salad and tuna fish when I finally said can you help me and he replied can you wait for me to be ready to help you. I said no and walked away. I went to customer service, asked for a manager, they announced him to come to customer service, 5 minutes later he was a no show and I left. BTW, this older black gentleman who seems to manage the deli area is generally not nice to any one. Read further and you will see.... Oh, I never call the racist card, but if you are black he notices you and waits on you pretty quickly. Read on. Several hours later I came back to the store went back to the deli counter and here here we go again .. A young girl, appears to be new is slicing meat for a customer. The black young guy is not there and the older black gentleman is in some other area of the deli... He is visible, but not at the deli counter per se, but now I see a black woman walk over to him, telling him what kind of a sandwich she wants, and he proceeds... WTF, I'm waiting to get a sandwich on line, he should be in the proper area to wait on me... but no, he takes the black girl who waits on NO line and he isn't even in the proper area to serve customers. The young black lady slicing meats finishes up with her customer walks away from the counter and I am just left there standing there, no one to serve or help me... So I say EXCUSE me and she notices me and says she thought I was with the person she had just sliced meat for... WHAT ... OK, I tell her I want an egg salad on a roll with tomato. She tells me to go get a roll... I get it. As she is making my sandwich the older black guy appears next to her, while finishing the black girls sandwich, that's the girl who didn't wait on the line, and he starts instructing the girl making my sandwich on how to make the sandwich - as he finishes with the customer who never waited on line. As I am waiting an elderly woman approaches with her aide and most of the prices in the display counter are covered up with fake greenery ... This elderly woman starts to ask pricing questions and she asks how much are the grilled shrimp and says, the prices are covered up ... She then asks how many shrimp are in a pound. The older black clerk snaps at her and tells her she is asking to many questions as he is tutoring the person making my sandwich... I am starved and this is like 15 min for a 3 min sandwich. Now the young lady making my sandwich cuts the sandwich before it is wrapped in the deli paper, so the egg salad is now mostly out of the bread and on the paper... The deli guy now sees this and says I should get another roll and he will remake the sandwich. I said Just Give It To Me The Way It is.... , so the girl wraps it up, puts a price tag on it ... I see I am charged .49 for the tomato, I guess that is OK... I took the sandwich to the dirty 'cafe' area, put it on the table, opened it up, there was no tomato and the egg salad was pretty much all out of the sandwich. YOU KNOW WHAT, I NEVER WALKED OVER TO THE CAFE REGISTER TO PAY FOR THE f###ING SANDWICH. I TOSSED THE s##t out into the trash can and walked out. I will never go back to this dump. I have shopped here on and off for about four years when I go to the NYU College of Dentistry and each time there is some non-sense in this store. I did notice the black girl who waited on no line and who was helped by the black older deli clerk both seemed very happy with their interactions with each other ... She was sitting in the cafe eating her sandwich, in fact she was just about finished with it when I first sat down in the cafe. The elderly white woman who was scolded asking for how many shrimp there are in a lb had walked away. I would not even think of asking for a manager again. read more

Pros: conveniently located next to their wine shop and distribute coupons, although i don't use their coupons... Cons: not fresh and the their variety of proteins always change, and SUPER slow and lethargic cashiers.... Oh! and it's more expensive than other bodegas around the corners. I am giving 1 stars just for the sake of convenience. I've picked up rotten potatoes and onions from here... They looked alright on the outside but when I cut through it, even the onions had rotten cores... Speaking of the cashiers, they are SUPER SLOW!!!!!!! They joke around while punching the numbers on the register, very rude, and lethargic. They often get the items wrong on the register, so keep your EYES OPEN! One day, I bought Kale and Romane and the cashier typed in kale for both. The workers here are the most ill-tempered and rude people I have ever met. Buying groceries from here literally ruins my day. One time, a lady in front of me got cashback and wanted $20 in ten dollar bills. The cashier told her she didn't have any bills smaller than a $20 (sure....) and she refused to ask any other cashiers for change. When the lady left, the cashier bragged to the other cashier about how she actually did have change, and just didn't feel like giving it to the customer. Another time, there was an elderly women in front of me. She was having a lot of trouble with her groceries, and instead of helping, the cashier curtly shoved her stuff away and started scanning the next customer's groceries. Basically, every time I go to MW, I see the cashiers going out of their way to be mean, and it is really upsetting The grocery store itself is fine. What is wrong with the workers? While shopping there I have witnessed: 1) A cashier say that (next time a customer who just left) entered the store she was 'going to beat her ass and then kill her' 2) While I was talking to my husband, another cashier said to me 'you got a problem? because if you got a problem you better tell me...', she thought we were talking about her, but we were talking about something completely unrelated. I have countless examples, having shopped there over the last two years. I have finally decided never to go there again...Out of fear of my own safety.
