Groceries
Joy C.

Beautiful and nicely organized grocery store. Everything is nicely organized and easy to find. Catering to a lot of students around the area, food portion is sometimes in halved or quartered packaging (ie pies and junior cakes). There are wide varieties of selections to choose from - cheese, fruits, veggies, cereal. The crisp organization makes it pleasing to visit this market. Keep up the good work!

***WARNING PLEASE READ!!!*** I'd like to share an experience I had on 10/7 with a grocery bagger at this WSM location. As I'm trying to enter the store I notice that this employee is blocking about 80% of entrance. I had enough room to get by but he wasn't paying attention at all and backed into me as I'm trying to squeeze past knocking me into the shelf to my right. Whatever, no big deal. It's NYC and people bump into one another all the time. The employee then tells me that I should have told him excuse me. I'm thinking, what? You just knocked me into a shelf because you weren't paying attention and now you're demanding an apology. As I begin to tell him my side of the story he flat out ignores me, talks over me telling me i should just say sorry next time, then goes and grabs his manager. As I attempt to tell my version of the story to his manager, he's talking over me and and not letting me speak and telling the manager to kick me out and how he's not gonna let me check out if I try to buy anything. The manager couldn't even hear my side of the story bc he was so preoccupied holding him back. It was so absurd and childish. I just laughed at the absurdity of it all bc they weren't letting me speak and when he saw me laugh he switched and started pressing me and walking me down like he was going to assault me. I said "what are you gonna do assault me?" He then started making his way toward me again while being held back by the manager. Had the manager not held him back I'm 100% sure he would have assaulted me. I start making my exit to get away from this guy and he starts yelling at the top of his lungs and calling me a 'creep' and a 'weirdo'. I go back to take a picture of him (shown bellow) for reference and he continues to hurl childish insults at me at the top of his lungs making a huge scene. Then they kicked me out. I've been shopping at this place 7 days a week for nearly two years. I love it and have left positive. A lot of the cashiers know me and recognize me. I want to continue shopping there but I also don't want to be assaulted when this guy recognizes me. I spoke with corporate who said they are gonna wait until the next day to review the security footage (odd decision to put this off for a day when your employee is going ballistic and threatening to beat people up). UPDATE: after speaking with WSM corporate they informed me that the employee in question had been there for 20 years and was simply "having a bad day" and "going through some things" and that no disciplinary action would be taken. They also watched the security footage and confirmed that everything I said in this review was true and accurate. Don't shop here unless you don't mind getting beaten down by the bag-boy on your way to get groceries.

Good Morning!

They have a fine selection of "Boutique Grocery" items to satisfy all the "Bougie" Manhattan and Manhattan "Wannabe" types. 24 Hours Available - which is very awesome; Staff are very kind and helpful and treat you with respect. How people can afford shopping @ this place - is beyond me. Produce is extremely fresh and delicious - however - insanely expensive. I enjoy shopping @ this location. However - its not my main place.

Storefront. Pic taken as I'm being honked at. #typical

Ya just can't be all things too all people, but barring any personal vendettas and lousy workers that would rather be just about anywhere other than at work, I cant conceptualized the poor experiences. Every aisle with every product shines like the top of the Chrysler Building, boxes, bags, cans and bottles aren't just clean and properly placed, they're immaculate. The cheese selection was a scaled back Dean & Deluca with many proud legacy formages. (Funny, I have two friends with the surname Deluca that collectively possess about as much cheese knowledge as your average third grader.) Manchego as a managers special? Nice. The man from Lamancha would stew in the waxy rope rind itself and while considering this, I took three cute little wedges. A drop from fourteen to twelve a pound on cheese is significant. Great beverage section, snagged a 6er of Evian and slugged one back while walking circumlocuoysly like a secret service agent defending against a onslaught of killer tomatoes. So the help stinks, yea and...

This Third Avenue grocery chain is a favorite of NYU students and alum, alike. Bigger, brighter and offers more than its competitors, Westside Market's real pride is in its prepared foods. Sandwiches, salads, lots of dips - perfect to stop before a picnic. Prices are sky high, but you have to consider that this is Manhattan. Don't act like I never told ya. Their selection of products is usually good. Ironically located on the east side, Westside Market has lots of produce inside and out. This is great for those of us with needs that exceed Doritos, but they have those, too.

Mislabeled cheese. This is NOT Truffle Tremor. Bought at Westside Market on Third Avenue & 17th Street.

Disgusting and unsanitary. Overpriced items, very limited selection, and the staff just glares at you. Horrible.

There are more cashiers than I've seen in any other Trader Joe's. Accounting for what they knew would be a high-trafficked store, the aisles are wide. Plenty of merchandise. Clean, well-stocked. Same prices I paid when I shopped at Trader Joe's in Roswell GA though -- and it may be my imagination -- the bag of frozen Gyoza Potstickers (something I always buy) seems to have shrunk. The First Avenue bus is right outside. Convenient! I would avoid rush hour and weekends when the store could get super busy. I don't want to struggle with purchases on a crowded bus. But I'll surely be back, mid-week, mid-day.

Unfortunately, the experience was heavily overshadowed by an uncomfortable situation with a security guard who followed us around the store. It was very off-putting and honestly diminished the entire visit. If I hadn't been in a rush, I would have left my items right where I stood and walked out. Security should be focused on individuals who are actually stealing, not hovering over someone carrying a tiny bag where nothing could even be hidden. Because of that experience, it's unlikely I'll return to this location. I may consider trying a different Trader Joe's someday, but this visit left a very sour impression.

We have developed a congenial friendship which was founded on La Fermière yogurts. Emre knows that I price shop so invariably I know when the time is right to buy these delicious yogurts at Eden. I often buy Siggi yogurts as here they are $1.99 each. The ladies - Dolores, Affou, Mamata, Savita, Tofu - at the checkout are friendly, kind and remember customers. A few speak French which I practice with them. Being originally Greek, the Dolmas in the prepared food section, are plump and particularly tasty. It's worth buying a few to take home. Adam looks taciturn but always is kind to me. He is behind the deli counter preparing sandwiches and always gives me a quarter pound of the Jambon de Paris. Miguel and Medina are also here. A loyalty card is worth having and once having accumulated many points I paid the princely sum of $1.61 for a pretty bouquet of roses in assorted colors that cost $11.99. Now that's a steal! Eden Gourmet is the sister supermarket to my beloved sadly closed Eden Gourmet of 14th street. This too is packed to the brim with fresh vegetables, fruits, cheeses, dairy, chicken and meats. A large variety of sparkling waters, frozen entrees, ice creams and assorted temptations are here too. A small bakery has cakes and pastries available.
