If you like quality work, an incredibly professional staff, a company you can rely on to have your car back when they say that they will, then Morrison's is for you. I've been having my cars fixed here for about ten years, and in all that time I've had nothing but respect and admiration for Morrison's. I'd probably agree to surgery in their automotive bay -- these guys take neatness seriously. Perhaps the best thing about Morrison's is that after they've looked at your car, they call and suggest (1) things you really need to do (2) things you should probably do, but could get away with not doing and (3) things that you don't really need to do. That way you know what's up with your car. In other words, they treat you like someone who needs to make decisions about priorities, and they help you sort those out for you. They understand that you have a budget -- and that for some cars, some things just aren't worth doing. I trust these guys. They are great. They have respect for themselves, their work, and for you. We have been taking our cars here for over 10 years, probably about 4 different cars. Sadly, we've moved out of the area and desperately miss the great folks at Morrison's. Yes, this shop is not cheap. But I trust these guys. They treat women in their shop with the same respect they give to male customers. They explain everything in detail, so that it really makes sense to me (I know very little about cars). If you follow their advice, your car will be in tip-top shape and it's an investment in the longevity of the car. Their preventative approach makes severe and costly repairs down the road much less probable. Preventative maintenance is costly, but you will never ever have any doubts about your car starting or breaking down on a long drive. That kind of peace of mind is worth it to me, especially since I had a 14-year old car. Also while some trips to Morrison's for a free oil change will lead to other repairs, overall, when you add up how much you spend annually on your car, it's actually quite reasonable. If you refer any friends or neighbors to their shop, they send you gift cards in the mail - sweet, as that happened to us a few times. If you're looking to buy a used car, these guys will also check out the car to make sure you're not getting swindled. One time, when a defective part wound up breaking down, not only did they replace it for free (as they of course should have), but they paid for and arranged for a car rental for us for the day while they repaired it. They are always on time. Their office and repair bays are spotless. Their repair men have been working for them for years. Employee loyalty and low turnover suggests that they treat their employees well, and that also matters to me. I can't say enough good things about Morrison's. They run an honest business with amazing customer service. But most importantly, my cars always sounded and felt better after I visited them, and I never once worried about the safety of my vehicles. I almost never leave reviews on Yelp (did it once), but with the amazing service I just received, I felt obliged. A few reviews talk about their prices being "not cheap", so i thought i'd share my experience with regard to price. I had my car stolen and had to have keys re-made at a Scion dealership. The starter went a couple days after I got it back. I took it back to the dealer, they ran diagnostics, and came back with about $3700 worth of repairs that were "required" in order to pass inspection. I asked them to look at after-market parts, etc but the price didn't come down. Thankfully I had the car transferred to Morrison's after my roommate recommended them. Rob, one of the owners looked at it. Super nice guy, really reasonable, and was able to explain what was wrong even though I know little about cars. Rob came back with a very different diagnosis that landed at about $1400. This was a complete game-changer for me. Without Morrison's I probably would've scrapped the car. But now, I'll probably have a car to drive around for another couple years for less than half the cost of the original estimate. Thanks Rob, you rock. read more

I will echo what others say about their professionalism and courteousness. However, their prices are high. I recently needed new rear brakes: rotors, pads, and calipers. The quote from Morrison's was $1050. Another garage in JP (that gets very high reviews on yelp) quoted me "no more than $700." I ended up having the work done by a family friend's garage in Maine for $510. I appreciate the professionalism of the guys at Morrison's, but paying double for a brake job is not something I am interested in. read more

I trust Morrison's, which for me is the number one most important factor in a mechanic. I've been taking my car here for a few years, after my last mechanic assured me that they'd checked my alignment before I went on a road trip, only to end up with a bald tire and broken strut in rural Nova Scotia, on account of improper alignment. My last experience with Morrison's totally confirmed that switch. I brought my car in fearing that I needed a new clutch or transmission, because my car had gotten stuck in fourth gear while parked on a hill. The car was un-stuck by the time the tow truck driver dropped it off, but I still asked Mike to take a look at it. He called this afternoon with a clean bill of health for my car, and when I went to pick it up, wouldn't accept a dime. I was expecting a fairly hefty price tag, and it would have been really easy to sell me work that I didn't actually need. Instead, they earned my trust and my return business. When my car has needed work, they are great about telling me what is urgent and what to keep an eye on and budget for in the future. Their prices may be a bit higher than other shops, but between the value of trust and free oil changes, it's a good value in my book. Finally, as a woman, I don't take it for granted that my mechanic will treat me with respect and explain what's wrong with my car without talking down to me. They do, every single time. read more

I'm going to give this place high ratings for as many platforms as I can find! I was new to the neighborhood and gained wind of this place by close friends. Decided to take my new Honda Civic Hatchback 2017 in for a synthetic oil change. The minute I walked in I was greeted by Mr. Mike -- Now, I see into a high degree of detail and right off the bat I observed: -these people conduct themselves professionally and project a vibe of "we'll take care of your car." -there are complimentary refreshments and snacks readily available -there is an adequate count of staff members -the staff actually use their computers (so I know that they log their customers well). You want to avoid places where they only use paper to document customer information and places that are understaffed. I had also used a coupon for one of the services and they honored it! No catch. Gentlemen and professional. Choose Morrison's Auto-Rite and don't look back. After your first service here, you'll say to yourself, "what's the catch?" or "this is too good to be true." 5/5 will come back to this place again and again and again. Worth every dollar. read more

As others have have attested, their customer service is fantastic, and they've always appeared to be honest, direct, and patient in explaining and discussing the problem. Their rate is reasonable for a quality mechanic, but certainly not the lowest out there. Here's a story that I think shows the best and worst of Morrison's. Our VW's transmission went just a few days before Christmas. It came back THREE times, supposedly fixed but not. It was just a worn clutch plate at first. But when the problem persisted, they tried replacing the sensors, the computer, the transmission casing. And all this work loosened a plug elsewhere that started dripping oil. After a MONTH of this they finally seemed to have fixed it, although there was never a conclusive answer as to what the problem was, just probabilities. Now, according to them this was a fluke. They'd never had something give them so much trouble before, and they assured me it was as much a nightmare for them as it was for us. So, to summarize: Very disappointing that they couldn't diagnose it better and that twice they considered it fixed prematurely. Also very disappointing that they don't have a loaner car policy or even a drop-off policy. On the positive side, they were always very polite and "owned" the problem. They were very eager to resolve the problem and did so, in part, at their own expense, although I would expect this since clearly the problem wasn't fixed as they had claimed. I want to give them 5 stars for their politeness and general quality. But they loose a couple points on price and services, and on a very big painful miss. P.S. Visa/MC Only. Limited on-street parking, and they strongly discourage leaving a car overnight. read more

For anyone that wants to keep their car for a long time, then Morisons is THE place. You will always fully understand what the issues are - or might be going forward. They are supportive if you decide to hold off on an expensive fix until you are better able to deal with the cost. I pay close attention to the types of cars they recommend, because my goal is function over fashion! Morrison's Auto Rite has serviced my vehicle for over 30 years. They are friendly and explain at all times what they are doing. They're very much into preventive maintenance so they're only explaining options, and there's no pressure to do any of the work suggested. Recently after 13 years with the same vehicle, I bought another one with just over 11,000 miles on it. They checked it over and gave me excellent advice so I was able to have some leverage in the purchase. The dealer selling me the vehicle agreed to install a new MacPherson strut (for the suspension) on the right side. I highly recommend Morrison's Auto Rite. read more

I woke up the other morning to a flat tire, and Morrison's was able to help me right away! They have really fantastic service and great communication. As a first time customer, they explained everything to me in detail (but in a way that I could understand!), and explained my options, so that I could choose what I wanted to get done today, and what I would come back for. This helped me save money, will still taking care of my car. I got a couple of new tires, an oil change, tire alignment, and new wipers--and it all felt like a great value. I'm a Marine Veteran who is a full-time college student and this shop knows that. Not that I was looking for ANY handout, they asked me what I do for a living in casual conversation in the waiting room and my license plates are Marine Veteran plates. I understand there is overhead for a mechanic shop, but the ABUSE here needs to be brought to light. You will pay a tremendous MARKUP for AFTERMARKET parts which they will install on your vehicle. How big of a markup? In my case up to 272.4%(Online Amazon exact part which they installed here). If you attempt to provide your own parts they WILL NOT accept your vehicle and claim warranty issues along with improper fitment. I find that ironic considering they are using AFTERMARKET parts on your vehicle. They can easily offer to install your parts without any warranty of the part itself as MANY other mechanics currently do. You might be asking yourself what if you provide the actual factory parts they tell you need to be replaced? Surprise, they still won't accept your vehicle in their shop. What bothers me the most is that I've ignorantly brought my vehicle here twice in the last year for suspension issues. That means that twice now I've paid an abusive markup on the aftermarket parts they have installed in my vehicle. Then they have the audacity to charge you $14 shop supply fee! I figured that my bills were so high because they were installing genuine factory parts which I know can be expensive. Oh, was I wrong! They installed cheap Monroe all in one strut which can be bought at any Advanced Auto Parts or online. I paid $448.52 for each Monroe all in one struts part # 172248. This is straight from their receipt. For one MOOG lower control arm I paid $171.27 part # RK620258, again straight from their receipt. I could've went to the dealership and had the work done along with a COURTESY VEHICLE for the price I paid here!. Take one minute of your time and search online for these same parts on Amazon, Ebay, and Advanced Auto Parts. ABUSE. For the Shop: I understand I have no clue to the overhead it takes to run a mechanic shop which is why I did a little research prior to writting this review. Call well reviewed mechanics and ask if they accept customer provided parts. (1-5 mins) Refer to pictures of my receipts for exact aftermarket part numbers which were marked up at this shop. Google them yourself for pricing. I only give them 2 stars because of the professional and friendly staff. Any possible effort into troubleshooting or good mechanic practice is completely lost when a customer finds out they're up charged to this extent. It is also lost when that same customer reaches out to have more work done and is told they're is no longer any "interest" in their business just because they are providing their own parts. (Very same parts used by this shop). Disappointing. Mark up on Monroe Strut assembly: Advanced auto price: 252.99 (77.2% markup) Amazon price: 120.41 (272.4% markup) Mark up on MOOG control arms: Advanced auto price: 88 (94.6% markup) Amazon price: 47.88 (257.7% markup) As to my previous review for this shop, I genuinely meant every word UNTIL: 1) I found out about the abusive markup of parts (still was NOT going to change original review, seeing as shop calls prior to installing any parts for customer confirmation, giving chance for me to ask prices, NAIVE me, but not a sore loser. Business is business) 2) I was told by the owner through Yelp message, that they are not "interested" in business where a customer provides parts. (a little confused, but surely they wont turn away a previous customer if they purchase SAME parts listed on the receipt. I fully understand no warranty from shop on parts the customer provided. Its okay the Moog brand control arms "RK" series that I purchased, AND this shop installed previously, come with a great warranty) 3) I respond back to owner on Yelp messenger same day, asking if I could provide same brand parts AND that I was fine with no warranty on the shops behalf. Can't speak highly enough about this place. Forthright, professional, great communicators, and all-around nice folks. Are they the cheapest oil change in the city? Probably not. But you get what you pay for, and I trust them to tell me the truth way more than any cut-rate chain. Backstory: went in for a routine repair, they found a service bulletin that meant I could probably get it covered under warranty at a dealer instead of paying them $1000+ to do it. I had a bit of a weird experience here three months ago. I had a check engine light on and needed an oil change, and for various reasons couldn't go to my usual mechanic. Morrison's was convenient and had good reviews, so I took my car there. Their customer service was professional and respectful, they seemed to explain things thoroughly, they got my approval before doing anything, the car was done when they told me it would be, and I'm happy with both the check engine repair and the oil change. However, they also told me a number of other things needed maintenance urgently, or would need attention soon, and I have since learned that several of them were exaggerated or outright untrue. It's possible that some of these were a difference of professional opinion, but not all of them, and I'm frustrated that they tried to convince me my using what felt like (very polite) scare tactics. Morrison's told me: - front brakes and rotors urgently need replacing, they are undriveable - back brakes have some wear left for now, but will need replacing before too long - tire tread wear pattern very bad ("ruined is too strong a word, but..."). When I pushed back a bit, they agreed that realigning them and rotating the tires per usual would help, but that they'd still be bad and noisy for the remaining life of the tires, and heavily implied that I might want new ones soon. - half a dozen lightbulbs out, need new wipers - other maintenance can wait but will need doing in the spring I knew the front brakes were coming up at some point, although last time my usual mechanic and I talked (six months prior), they had plenty of life in them, and they hadn't been squeaking that I'd noticed. I was aware the rotors would eventually need replacing but, had been told they were fine and safe until the brakes wore out. The back brakes were a surprise, and the tire treads being "almost ruined" seemed bizarre, because I get them rotated every oil change, and every other mechanic I've been to has always said the wear pattern looked great and they didn't need realignment. It's plausible that I'd been though a pothole that threw the alignment off, but it still seemed extreme for them to go from "great wear" to "nearly ruined" in the six months since my last oil change. I looked at them myself when I got home, and couldn't find any obvious evidence of uneven wear, although I'm admittedly not a professional. I usually do the bulbs and wipers myself, but I'd been busy, and it was plausible that they needed replacing and I just hadn't noticed. Over all their recommendations surprised me and some of the phrasing felt like scare tactics, but they had explanations that sounded good, and they were polite and respectful, and I knew they had excellent reviews, so I went with most of their suggestions, including the front brakes and roters. I opted to wait on the back brakes and other upcoming maintenance, and did not get new tires, although I did have them rotated per usual, and realigned. This week I took my car back to my usual mechanic, who I trust, who told me that: - The back brakes have plenty of wear left in them, they're only maybe 20% worn - The tire treads still look absolutely fine - Various maintenance does need doing, but they weren't pushy about any of it, most of it was predictable per my understanding of the maintenance schedule, and/or their explanations were detailed and made sense. I'm now second-guessing the rest of what Morrison's told me, but what's done is done. I won't be going back here, though. read more

After years of taking my car to chains for routine service, I decided to try out this local business- and I'm very glad that I took the risk. The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, even cheery, definitely more so than I was at 8AM on Monday morning... they not only performed my oil change at lightning speed, but took care of some tire rotation and alignment that I didn't know I needed. Normally I'm suspicious of mechanics that suggest you need more work than you came in for- but this time, the reasoning behind the repairs was clearly and honestly explained to me. They are hands-down the most buttoned up and professional shop I've ever worked with. Communication is thorough, almost to a fault. Rob and team were prompt in calling and explaining in detail exactly what work needed to be done and what it would cost. They presented recommendations and prioritized repairs to help save me money. Reception area is clean and orderly, as are their lot and garage, which says a lot. That they are also consistently warm and friendly is icing on the cake. We've been having cars serviced by this JP institution for years and have never had a problem. They do a thorough diagnosis (when appropriate) to identify the problem if they don't automatically recognize the symptoms (which they usually do) and get the job done by end of the day ... if not sooner. They're very clear about potential problems and they reliably call as soon as they figure out what needs to be done. It's the friendliest shop I've ever dealt with in my 60+ years of driving and car ownership. Good people! Dog friendly, even though we don't have a dog. And it's a clean shop ... immaculate - not that cleanliness is a priority for most shops. read more

I can't recommend Morrison's Auto Rite highly enough. I live nearby and noticed a "check engine" light on my older SUV. I brought it in, and they offered to do a diagnostic check while advising me of the $159 cost to do so. Their team was incredibly communicative by phone, asking permission at each step that could cost additional money, and calling with regular updates. They found that my car had a serious internal transmission problem that would require further evaluation and intervention by a transmission specialist. Because they couldn't address the issue on-site, they waived the entire $159 fee and gave me the detailed diagnostic report for free. They also offered detailed advice about how to balance the likely costs of transmission repair or replacement against the car's total (rather low) value, and recommended a trustworthy transmission shop. While I didn't get the news I'd hoped for, and while I need additional repairs that may cost a good deal, I'm incredibly grateful for the kindness and integrity of the folks at Morrison's Auto Rite. They are transparent, honest, generous, and very prompt, and I'll definitely be going back for any future repair needs. Plus they offer you free cookies on the way out! read more

I went to Morrison's a few weeks ago due to a strange vibration in my steering wheel. Unlike during my previous trip to an authorized dealership, the guys at Morrison's were able to accurately diagnose the problem and get it fixed (torn engine mount). Just yesterday, these guys saved me again by replacing a burnt out turn signal bulb that was stuck in its housing due to bent metal prongs- and they did it for free due to my previous visit! Morrison's is conveniently located on Centre St. in Jamaica Plain. As others have described on Yelp, they definitely take the time to describe both required service and recommended service. My wife has taken her car here for 15+ years. When I lived in the area, I used to take my car here. Now that we live far away and commute together back to Boston, we try to reduce our commuting costs by using one car and utilize Morrison's to service our vehicles. Morrison's completed a front brake job (Rotors and Pads), all wheel alignment, oil change, balance and rotate tires. It was requested to be completed at a certain time and it was completed on time. The price might have been slightly higher compared to other places, but given the convenience and excellent customer service, it is worth having our cars serviced here. read more

They know what my car needs for service based on the manual and they just do it for a reasonable price. They fix my car right the first time. I go with their plan and my car doesn't break down.
