I was in need of new brakes and have heard good things about Ron's so one morning I stopped by. They only had after market brakes but the man assured me they were good. So I trusted him which I usually have a hard time doing at auto shops. I dropped off my car in the morning and later, they called me to tell me it was ready. I came. I paid. I left. Though the man who fixed my car said there was a wheel bearing noise when he test drove it. Since my car is still under warranty, I brought it to my dealer and he was right! They fixed it. Ron is fantastic! He's always been honest and never tries to up sell you. The best example is when I brought my car in a few years ago because a different mechanic said I needed a new alternator. Ron looked at it and said my alternator could last another year or two and told me what to look out for in the future. I was very disappointed with their job. I went for general inspection he charged me $40 ans found that there was the engine light showing, so je let me know that the matter was very serious and for that I should go and bring at least $500.00 for that to be fixed. 2 days mater the guys from Valvoline discovered that it was only the gas cover that was,nt well closed. They did it and till today no more engine light. And these guys didnt charge me. It was free for the inspections. read more

I came to Ron with a 73 Charger that was having a hard time running. I've taken cars here in the past and he does good work, but not without the attitude to go with it. This last time was no exception to the attitude, however he told me he was too busy to help me. When he didn't offer me another chance to bring the car by, I asked him for a referal to which I was told "he didn't know of any shops who would want to take that on". Long story short, after coming to him since I start driving almost a decade ago, this was the last straw. I'm not saying he won't do good work for you, but his heart isn't in it anymore. As usual great job fixing my car ! Brought car in for noise in front ?! Actually it was my rear brakes. I also had an oil lube filter and tire rotation. After test driving my car Ron called to let me know it was the rear brakes and to make sure I wanted to move forward which I did!! He also pointed out another problem I was having with With the rear end. You have to like a mechanic that'll call you and tell you what needs to be fixed right away and what can wait. I had them fix everything at a reasonable price and my car is great now. Anyone looking for a regular mechanic to take their car to whenever they have problems would be crazy not to go to Ron's! Twice in the past two months, Ron has been able to squeeze me in at the last minute and get my company car back on the road quickly. The first time was on a Saturday. I wandered in with a valve from the Volvo dealer and a headlight bulb. Ron worked me into their rotation that day and only charged me $25 to install the valve and replace the headlight! Friday night, as I was driving to an appointment, my car began to leak oil, and not a small leak either. I barely had enough time to pull over. I called Ron and asked if I could have it towed to his shop, and he was totally agreeable. I've brought my busted ass Subaru to Ron countless times, he's done the: timing belt, brakes, exhaust, tune up, oil change, starter, alternator, battery, poltergeist type electrical system freaky shit - almost everything I've needed. And, if he knows he can't get to it, or can't get the part, or doesn't have the right diagnostic tool - he will send you in the right direction. This is a small shop with only 1 or 2 mechanics on duty and you should call ahead if you can. Ron's is by far the best shop I've gone to in the city. I've been taking my car here for about 3 years and my only regret is that I didn't do so sooner. They're efficient, fair and honest. I'm tempted to give 1 star - but here's my tale. I've been to Ron's twice. Once was a stellar visit. My car wouldn't start and I got Ron to come to my house, jump the car and take it in for the day. Problem was fixed quickly and for not a lot of money. Had the oil changed while it was in the shop. The second time, I came for an oil change - thought it'd be good to have a Rozzie business for car care. Asked for the tires to be rotated as well. I get the car back, and there's a bit of a shimmy in my steering wheel. I figure the newly rotated tires need to settle in or something. After a little while, nothing had settled, and I was having a separate issue and decided to take the car to another shop. Here's the long story short: The lug nuts on one wheel had been over-tightened so badly that it took almost an hour to get the wheel off. However, FTW, I was told (and was shown) that the tire had a area on it that had worn down THROUGH the steel belts. Total safety hazard. Made me very angry that I was driving myself and others around in this wildly unsafe manner. Maybe whoever worked on my car that day (I didn't drop it off with Ron) had a bad day, but it almost made my day a little worse, should I have gotten a flat and had a wheel where the lug nuts were never going to come off. My vehicle was making a horrible noise when I brought it in and he gave it back to me with the same noise. He even said that I could bring it back in 3-4 weeks to look into it. It didn't last 3-4 weeks. It lasted a few days until I heard a bang on the HIGHWAY and then I held on for dear life. I called Ron and he said that he would not give me a free estimate to fix it. No customer should ever be sent on his/her way with an unsafe vehicle. Any good mechanic should have known that there was a serious safety issue with my vehicle. read more

I dropped my car off here on the 7th for an opinion on what was wrong with it. I was ready to use this place as my local mechanic due to the high yelp ratings. I know others have had positive experiences here, but mine was negative. Ron physically threatened and swore at me repeatedly for refusing to pay a fee ($90) that is posted nowhere in his shop and that he did not disclose when I dropped my car off. A few days earlier I had gotten an inspection and opinion from another mechanic at no cost. I wanted to drive the car home and think about the estimate he had given me ($450 to replace 1 fuel injector). When a contractor comes to your house to give you an estimate, is there a fee? No. When people come to estimate for landscaping, is there a fee? No. When a mover comes to estimate the cost of moving, is there a fee? No. Do many other automotive places offer free diagnostic service? Yes. You have to communicate with people if you want to get paid for something. I refused to pay and he wouldn't return my keys. He became very aggressive and told his employees I wanted to "put on the boxing gloves" (physical threat). He slapped his bicep and told me "here's my five-finger sign" (physical threat) when I asked where it is posted that there is a fee. He told me to "stop crying wha, wha, wha" and to "stop bull********," among other things. Eventually he walked away and I had to have the police intervene to get my car released without paying the fee. If he had just communicated about the fee beforehand, this would have been avoided, it's very simple. So, this is what happened when I went to Ron's Automotive; I hope other people have more positive experiences there. By the way, he told me exactly what the people at the auto parts store told me after using their diagnostic tool, which is a free service. read more

I didn't expect a free job but I didn't expect them to try and charge her $150.00!!! To remove screws?? Ron's auto should be ashamed! Told her $80 an hour shop cost. Been going to Ron for 5 years. I originally had a car that was cursed and required numerous major repairs. He's attentive, fair and skilled. I know when I drop my car off he is telling me the truth. I had an obscure part that would require 3500 and 6 weeks to be completed. He looked online and figured out how to customize a more readily available part for 1400. My daughter was driving into Boston from Western Mass and and had a loud noise from the front wheels after driving in heavy traffic. She took it in to Ron's the following morning and he checked the entire front end and brakes and assured her there was nothing wrong with the car. ok heres a christmas adventure for you. last week my car engine "siezes" on storrow drive. that was fun. today my mechanic- well my ex mechanic- tells me he can get an engine with 90,000 miles for $3000. but he doesnt want the job because "its too big a job. Not my cup of tea". ok fine but then he - my ex mechanic- asksh me what is the blue book value anyway. i dont know i say, your the mechanic. his advise is to go on line and find the blue book value even though "you might have to pay to find out". well at least my suspicians are confirmed- he does charge way too much for routine work if he can walk away from $3000. in this economy at this time of year. do your freinds, nieghbors, enemies a favor this christmas- stay away from Ron's automotive on washington st in roslindale across from dunkin donuts!!!!!! My first clue should have been all those times i stopped on my way home at the end of a day to pick up my car and found every guy in the shop with a beer in his hand. silly me read more
