After relocating to New England, I sought a trustworthy auto repair shop and discovered Brakeman's…read moreAuto Repair in Jamaica Plain, MA. Their numerous 5-star Yelp reviews highlighting exceptional service, quality, and professionalism caught my attention. Upon visiting their website, I was impressed by their rich family history in mechanics, which prompted me to schedule an appointment. Surprisingly, securing a slot was easy despite their stellar reputation. Using the Waze app for navigation, I encountered minor inaccuracies; however, locating the shop became straightforward once I realized it's situated across from the gas station on the corner, housed in a distinctive green building. The owner, Ray, was both kind and courteous. He thoroughly examined my brakes and rotors, informed me that he would order the necessary parts, and mentioned there might be a wait. He suggested I consider taking an Uber, but I opted to spend time at a nearby library. Unfortunately, the library was a small branch that didn't open until noon that day, so I utilized the adjacent Curtis Hall Community Center to catch up on some work. Throughout the service, I received timely updates from the shop. The brake and rotor repairs were completed efficiently, and Ray's dedication to customer satisfaction was evident. He checked in later that day to ensure my car was performing well post-service and followed up the next day to confirm my continued satisfaction. This level of personalized service reminded me of the local mechanics back in the South. The most important thing besides the service, and the quality, the VALUE!!! I saved 50% of what I was quoted by the dealership just for brakes!! It goes to show that there are still businesses like Brakeman's Auto Repair that aren't trying to get over on people that provide GENUINE SERVICE in a timely manner. In summary, Brakeman's Auto Repair offers a blend of professional expertise and genuine customer care. For anyone in the New England area seeking reliable auto service, I wholeheartedly recommend them.

I bought a 150cc Vespa scooter in the Spring of 2008 and in the course of insuring it as a…read moremotorcycle my insurance company accidentally canceled the coverage on my regular car. In order to re-gain coverage on my car my insurer required an inspection and the closest agent they recommended was Auto Depot. I drove over there one day and walked up into the office. It turns out that the business was officially closed while they did inventory (and I think some staff were on vacation). Despite that, when they found out I needed an insurance inspection they grabbed the paperwork and a camera and took care of me. I was pleasently surprised that they did this while "closed" since I don't think inspections for insurance companies are a big money maker. A few months later (and after dumping the vespa on a street one day thanks to a wet manhole cover) I brought the scooter to them to see if they could repair a couple of dents and a lot of paint scratches. After taking some gentle ribbing about owing a scooter (I think some of the staff are serious motorcycle heads) they gave me a price estimate and told me it may take a few days of work since they'd have to custom match and mix the paint. At that point one of the owners offered to give me a ride back to Roslindale Village where I could easily walk or grab a bus back home to my house. They were unable to get official Vespa paint so they used some sort of optical scan gun to read the colors and generate the info they needed to have a shop mix up a custom batch. The end result was fantastic - except for some scratches on some chrome bits that I don't care about they fixed all the dents and matched the scooter paint *exactly* when repairing the body scratches. The final price was exactly what they had estimated as well - no surprises. So in summary: * They opened the shop just to perform an insurance inspection on my car * An owner drove me to Rozzie Village after I dropped off my scooter * They mixed custom paint when fixing the scooter and did great bodywork * The paint/bodywork estimate was exactly what I ended up paying Obviously this is just my $.02 but they've earned my loyalty and I'll be bringing the car back there some time to get some body panel scratches fixed. -chris
