I'm a classic city driver -- I routinely leave my car sitting on my driveway for weeks on end, then when I do drive it, it's usually in heavy traffic. As a result, maintenance can be tricky. I never hesitate to take my car to Morrison's. In my ten years living in various neighborhoods around Boston, I've gone to different mechanics around town. Some were cheaper, but the work always needed to be redone a few months later and I usually left feeling like no one was being straight with me. That never happens at Morrison's. As I've written in the past: if there's something wrong, they'll find it, and if there isn't, they won't. They're up front about the timeline to get work done -- my car has always been sitting there, ready to go when they said it was. It's always clean when they're done -- no trace that anyone besides me was ever mucking around in it. And it always, always runs noticeably better when I do what they recommend, even if it's just "nice to have" maintenance rather than "have to have." Most importantly, as others have written, they'll explain why you need the work done they're recommending, and if you can't or don't want to pay for it all at once, they explain the relative priorities of each project. You never feel unsafe driving a car that's been seen by the team at Morrison's. They go above and beyond, too. I dropped by without an appointment a few days before Thanksgiving, hoping to get my car seen before I did Thanksgiving driving. I'd hit a big pothole in Kenmore the day before and was worried about tire damage. They didn't have time to squeeze me in before the holiday (I could tell as soon as I pulled in -- their lot was the fullest I'd ever seen with people doing exactly what I was trying to do, getting things shipshape before travel). Even though they were slammed, Mike walked out to the lot with me and did a quick exam of my tires. My husband and I thought they were okay, but weren't sure, so it was great to have a quick professional opinion before getting on the road. The tires got the okay for the trip, and I came in the following Monday to get a bunch of other maintenance work done. I really can't say enough about this place. I am only giving this place a star to ensure this post is read. I will never go to this place in Jamaica Plain again, nor will I recommend it to others. In fact I will go as far to tell people DO NOT GO HERE. This morning I was verbally abused by one of the owners who proceeded to throw my keys across the parking lot of the business. This grown man threw a gigantic hissy fit over, in front of other customers, because he believed I was upset they would not accept my expired free oil change voucher. This was so far from the truth! When the owner said my coupon was expired, I sighed and said, oh well. Then he asked if I still wanted it and I said yes, looked at my husband and said "I wish I had the coupon for the other place" and then we promptly left. As we left, the bus drove by and I said "ugh, today sucks". This is when the owner came out of the front door, yelled my name and threw my keys at me. I was horrified. He believed I said "they suck", which is completely not the case. I left Morrisons with the intention of paying for my oil change. It was my mistake, and I had no problem with it! If I was upset with them, I would not have left my car with them with the intention to pay for an oil change. Also, to reference their "free oil change" coupon. Don't believe it. This coupon always requires you to pay for the oil, and the free status really ends up being around 15-20 dollars. This place has horrific customer service. I've never had a stranger throw anything at me in public or speak to me in the way this gentleman did. I ended up crying in the parking lot of 5 minutes unable to drive away because I was so upset with how I was treated. If they treated me like this, I believe they'd do it to others. Also I wouldn't put it past them to lie to customers about what they car needs/requires. DO NOT GO HERE. No one should speak to another person, or act out on a misunderstanding that was entirely their fault. Horrible Horrible place. read more

I brought my car on Monday for a wheel alignment and an oil change. I thought the wheel alignment would solve the shaking of my car at 60 miles per hour. I should not have assumed I knew what would fix this. Anyway, Morrison's did the wheel alignment and told me it did have a bit of an alignment issue but nothing major. I asked if the alignment would resolve the shaking issue and they said no, not really. However, balancing the wheel might be the solution. So, I dropped off my car again on Thursday to have the wheels balanced. I came to pick up my car and when Mike handed me the bill, he said: "This is on us, you are a first time customer and we want you to have a good experience". My jaw dropped, and after I was able to close my mouth, I jumped over the counter and gave Mike a big hug. I was absolutely floored! This is not the only good thing about the place I noticed; they were always very pleasant, and very willing to explain and help me understand the car's needs, and did not put pressure on me to do anything. As a matter of fact, I know my car will need some break work soon, Mike confirmed that and did not push me to get it done right away as another mechanic might have, he told me I still had some time and we could keep an eye on it. As I told my friends; in life, if you don't have a good baker (I am French) and a good mechanic, you have nothing! Looks like I have one of two now. So... where is that good baker? My family has been taking our cars to Morrison's for over 25 years. In my experience, it's a rarity to feel comfortable trusting a mechanic, and we trust Morrison's. They pay attention to things that are important to me. For example, after my car needed two different types of expensive work done within about a year and a half, I asked them if this was unusual and whether I should trade in my car. They told me that they keep track of what is getting repaired on each car and whether they would recommend that a customer trade in the car. In my case, it was an issue that they saw a lot in Priuses, so I could expect to need to do the repair again in the future, but it didn't mean that I needed to get rid of the car (what a relief - because it's almost paid off!). They are very familiar with the kind of work that generally needs to be done on all makes and models of cars, so they're in a good position to make these kinds of recommendations. I really appreciate their high level of expertise. As they are working on the car, they will call me if they find anything unexpected, and if the cost of the work is getting high, they will tell me which work can wait and for how long. I moved to Everett, but I still come back to Morrison's because they do great work, they are friendly and professional, and I know I can trust them. read more

Morrison's took care of our 2001 Subaru for the last 7 years and now they take care of our RAV4. When a mechanic says things "that's an easy repair -- you can do it yourself" or "you can wait before taking care of that", you know you're dealing with integrity. They were very helpful and patient as we went through the process of buying a new (used) car and did the pre-purchase inspection. When I told the dealer we were taking the car to Morrison's they became a lot more hooked into showing us their best cars. Morrison's is very good about calling before doing any work, keeping parts in stock, and having the car ready when they say it's going to be ready. We'll often have complex logistics to get the car to Morrison's so it's very important it be ready when we arrive. You can probably find repairs cheaper elsewhere but if you're a good customer they'll take care of you with free oil changes and other courtesies. They've never added on strange fees or charged more than the estimate. In the end, it's worth every penny. read more

I pulled into Morrison's simply by chance. I am brand new to Jamaica Plain (brand new to New England in general) and was headed to the grocery store and heard a squeaky coming from the wheel well of my truck. I am very hyper about keeping up on any and all maintenance for my truck (hence it is 14 years old and has taken me all over this wonderful country :). I did not have an appointment and unfortunately I would not have availability the rest of the week due to my work schedule so they kindly asked me to leave it with them and they would put it up on the rack and take a look that same afternoon. Turns out that the noise was a simple fix and I was over-joyed! They put my mind at ease and got me on my way! All employees whom I interacted with were friendly, professional, and courteous. I have gone to Morrison's for years and I love their work and honesty. And what I like is that they are honest with work you shouldn't waste your money on even when it will stop them from getting a job. I had an old Honda Civic and I wanted to have air conditioning installed. Guys at Morrison's were honest with me and said "don't waste your money"; a lot can go wrong with installing air conditioning on an old car. So they talked me out of it rather than letting me make a serious error. Basically they talked themselves out of the money for the job. Sometimes I have had little things go wrong and they have fixed them for free. They may be more expensive but I have never had my older cars break down. They are very knowledgeable and they explain issues thoroughly. There advice is always sound and they provide options. Owned and run by father-son tandem Fred and Rob Morrison for the last 20+ years, Morrison's is good news all around. Excellent and prompt service for most types of car (American, Japanese, Volvo) is mitigated only slightly by above-average prices. On the other hand, they offer free oil changes to loyal customers and will never do more work than you ask for. Very professional, and straight forward with timing and cost estimates. They explained everything thoroughly and stayed late to finish work on my car so it would be ready for a long trip the next day. As for cost, their hourly labor rate is about the same as most places I've been. They did use new parts on my last big job, which are more expensive, but it was worth it to me to know I can trust them.
