He will tell you a price for the repair and does unauthorized work and later lies to you that he advised you, I was in disbelief with the horrible experience I had at this very unprofessional and discriminatory business at Keegan's Services at this day in age. Over $900 later he calls me to tow my car back home that he is unable to fix and after going back and forth trying to reason with over these bad business practices, he tells me he did me a favor trying to fix my car ...no Russ you are a LIAR and a thief and a racist. To make things worst he makes me pay cash for this and when asked why am I unable to pay with my credit card as the machine reader is right there and credit cards symbols are on his windows and website credit cards are accepted..he continued to ignore me and say because I said so . So I went to Keegan's today to get my headlights fixed and the man spent 15 minutes looking under my hood and in the fuse box and told me I had a switch problem and he couldn't fix it today. I went to Gibbs and got it fixed in 10 minutes. What the eff? I'll give Keegan's the benefit of the doubt that maybe it was early and he wasn't thinking straight, but I've been overcharged here before. Fantastic. I went to Keegan's because it's in my neighborhood and I was overdue for an oil change. My only other experience with Keegan's was when I needed an air hose for my flat bike tire, and Russ filled it for me. Not only did they keep my car up on the lift until I got there so that they could show me the worn rotors on my front tires, I found a lovely thank you note on my dash and a lovely token of neighborliness. So I was totally freaking out when my car starting making some rather unsettling noises. I definitely am not the kind of guy who knows the difference between a fan belt and a leather belt, if you know what I'm saying. I called up Keegan at the referral of a friend and they took my car first thing the next morning. They called an hour later with answers to the puzzling noises emanating from my axle and an estimate for the cost. The next morning I was picking up my car, right as rain, paying precisely what they had estimated (which was a very fair market rate). My mechanic even walked me through what they did to my car in Lehman's terms and chatted with me about what I would need over the next few years for general maintenance. Service was more than efficient and the people were all very welcoming and polite. I'll be sure to use them when some other clanking rears up in my car. read more

With mechanics, sometimes you get the Evil Empire and sometimes you get the Rebel Alliance. With Keegan's, you most definitely get the Rebel Alliance. There are no capes, no shiny helmets, no Star Destroyers, and no Death Stars, but just a ragtag bunch of guys with a mission who will do anything to get it done. The steering was acting strangely on my wife's car so I brought it in. They told me I needed a new column, but the price was right and they turned it around quickly. I took my Toyota Prius to Russ for a flat tire after having recently been to Prime Toyota. (They had done a routine maintenance with safety inspection indicating no issues). Russell's mechanic checked more than just the flat tire and found that the brake pads were dangerously thin. The Prime Toyota people had obviously not even pulled the wheels off since one of them was stuck on and their brake pad measurements were not even close. Russell was able to provide a range of tire choices and did all the brake pads and rotors by the next morning. Excellent service and concern for the customer. read more

Initially, I had a very positive experience with Russ - had a tire patched and some other minor repairs and some nice conversation...he really took the time to share information about how the tire works, etc. About a week later, though, the tire was flat again. Their hours aren't reliable (posted hours on yelp and their website don't match whether you'll find a mechanic there or not...or maybe the one there is just working on his own truck for the day and not accepting customers...). When I finally brought it to another mechanic, he told me that the patch job wasn't good and found an additional nail in the tire...who knows if it was there when Keegan's had it... May have been a fluke, and I won't rule out going back to Keegan's, but definitely call ahead to make sure they're open before just showing up! read more

But, besides the money I spent on a problem they couldn't fix, I will never go to them again because during a short drive around the block with Brian he went on a racist, misogynistic rant about bad drivers, referring to the black driver in front of us as a "chocolate monkey." They don't deserve your money, or this star. read more

I can't tell if these guys are dishonest, stupid, incompetent or all three. I took my car in because the brakes were making a funny sound, and Russ Keegan (the namesake owner) ran a "27-point check" on my vehicle. When I went to pick up the car, he told me that the funny sound was coming from the emergency brake, and that there was a bevy of other problems: -Both the front and rear brakes were shot (pads, rotors, and hardware) -The Brake fluid needed to be changed -The oil needed to be changed -I needed a new serpentine belt -The emergency brake cables were broken and needed to be replaced -The emergency brake shoes needed to be replaced and, -The starter needed to be replaced All in all, about $2250 worth of work. Not knowing anything about cars, I took his word for it, and paid the $170 diagnostic fee. Sitting down and looking at the estimate, I called around, and found a shop that would do all of that work for $1800, but even cheaper still, I wondered if I could fly my mechanic friend out from California, and we could do the work together. For the plane tickets, and all the parts, which he could buy under his corporate account, it would cost about $800-$1000. Seeing this as a good opportunity to save money and see an old friend, I flew my buddy (a licensed technician) to Boston with a suitcase full of parts. We put the car up on a jack, and took the wheels off. The brakes were fine. The emergency brake shoes did need to be replaced, but the cables were fine- a job Russ wanted to charge me $570 for. All of the pads, rotors and hardware for the brakes had at least 40% of the material left, or 15,000 miles. Great, let's check the rest of Keegan's work. My friend went over the diagnostics sheet with me, and it would appear that they didn't even open the hood: -The air filter needed to be replaced (and was marked as fine on the diagnostics) -The brake fluid was as clear as water (master cylinder was brand new) -Strut mounts were creaking and rusty (marked as fine) -Transmission fluid was dirty (marked as fine) -Engine stabilizer mount was broken (not marked on diagnostic sheet) When we confronted Keegan, he said that he put together the diagnostics sheet so that we could take it to the dealer we bought the car from. Why would he give me a list of false problems? If I take it to the dealer, they're just going to tell me that my brakes are fine, just like my friend did. Why didn't he mark the real problems with my car? My best guess would be that you can't make any money off of replacing an air filter- it takes 30 seconds. In Keegan's defense, it is true, I did need a serpentine belt, my oil did need to be changed, and the starter was obviously an issue. Overall he was nice and polite albeit dishonest and incompetent. I would never go back, and wonder how many people who wrote positive reviews were really just fooled by his charm. read more

I have had 2 positive experiences with Keegan's thus far. The most recent time, my issue was minor and they fixed it on the spot. The first time it was more involved but it was fixed that day and Russ drove me to the T so I wouldn't be late for work. read more

My cars breaks were leaking so I had the car towed here, they took the car and said "we'll call you in the morning". They called me in the morning, said it would be $500 to fix and can they start on it? I thought about it and as it was an old car said, no, I think I'll donate it to charity. I'll come and pick it up. I then asked if there was any charge since I already knew that I just needed new break lines. They said, well they worked on it for a few hours so it will be $150. I NEVER ASKED THEM TO WORK ON THE CAR. I knew that the break line needed replacing, there was no need for them to work on the car and charge me $150 for non-authorized work. After calling and arguing about this price 4 times they refused to budge and I had to pay $150 to just get the car to be released. I never authorized them to work on the car, I asked them to call me before they did anything, not after they decided to wrack up hours and charge me $150. I will never go back there and urge you to not as well. You never know what their hidden charges will end up costing you. read more

I've gone to Keegan's Service station for a few services now and always leave feeling satisfied. Russ and the guys are very attentive, polite, and know how to please the customer. (Make sure to sign up for their email list.) I've had shocks replaced, tire/ rims changed, oil changed, and fluids checked all from Russ and have always left happy knowing the job was done right. I will continue to use Keegan's for my two cars. His prices aren't bad, the guys their have been in business for a while and so they know what their doing and not trying to sell you something you don't need. Very pleased with the very accommodating, very fast service. My power window regulator stopped working and the window fell down into the door, leaving my car wide open to the elements and anyone who walked by. Not a good thing when you park on the street. While I'd been to Keegan's some years before for some insurance work and an inspection (and been pleased with the results) I usually went to my dealer's-- but despite going there for 4 years, they wouldn't fit me in for almost a week. I called Keegan's first thing the next morning and they were willing to take me, got the part that I needed, and had my car back to me in half a day-- all of which was absolutely fantastic since I also had visitors in town and my car was our only transport. Throughout, Mr. Keegan was polite, friendly, and explained what was happening, including costs, parts, and potential time hold-ups, so that I wouldn't be disappointed in case things took longer. (Not that I had much choice since the work had to be done-- plus, I was still overjoyed that they could see me that day at all.) When I got the car back, Mr. Keegan even showed me the old regulator and what had broken. I won't hesitate to call Keegan's the next time I need work-- I definitely feel like a convert. read more

I've seen it done billions of times, but the fear of over-inflating them and having them explode in my face is what caused me to suck up my pride and drive over to Keegans. My coworker raves about Keegan's so I brought my car in after hearing a loud ticking noise on my way to work. After examining the car for several potential issues, Russ called me to let me know the noise was just some tape that was left on my windshield after getting a replacement a few days prior. I was immensely relieved (and felt kinda dumb). The customer service here was exceptional. They were courteous, efficient, and didn't even charge me for looking at this issue. Russ at Keegan's helped me out. We've brought our old car there for years for various things. Everything was smooth. Honest and quick. Most recently I brought the old car to a few places for it's final repair estimate. Keegans found everything that was wrong and the estimates were right on with everyone else. I wasn't charged for the time it took to look over the car AND (I think this says it all) russ was the last to look at the car and the only one who wired up my muffler as a quick fix. My car had a check engine light on so I took it to a auto parts store to get it checked for free. They told me it was a heat censor. I brought it to keegan's and told him what the auto place said he told me they don't know what they were talking about and he would have to run it through a full check up. He called me later that day and told me it was in fact the heat censor ( $150 later ) and that he changed all the spark plugs. I told him I only wanted the censor fixed and I never authorized him to do anything yet. He agreed to just do the censor. When I picked up the car the bill was for $490.00 ( for one censor ? ) I thought it ws a little high but just wanted to get home. Just ten minutes after leaving his shop the check engine light came back on. I called him up and he said its because I didn't change the spark plugs and to bring it in the next day. I stopped at the auto parts store again to have them check the code and sure enough its the same heat censor code they told me either it was never changed or they used the wrong one. The next day when I got to keegan's shop I told them to fix and I'm not paying anymore money. upon which him and his worker started yelling and screaming at me that it was my fault because they had the spark plugs in already and I would have to pay more money. i just left because I refuse to give these crooks anymore money. Now I've paid $490.00 for a heat censor that either wsn't put in or done wrong and i have to take it somewhere else to get fixed. Stay away from these crooks. read more

Charged my $128 for running computer diagnostics on check engine sign (turned out to be nothing serious). He never disclosed the charge ahead of time. It appears that he doesn't have a lot of clients so he tries to make up for it with these type of charges. I have gone to a number of mechanics who did the diagnostics for free and they also disclosed their charges ahead of any work they offered to do. Autozone does it for free as well. read more

I live in the area and really wanted this place to be a local gem but it's not. I brought my car in because the blinker was double triggering and they charged me $200 for 2 hours of diagnostics and didn't fix anything! When I told Mr. Keegan that I could have brought it to a dealer and paid less for diagnostics, he laughed and told me to call my congressman. I will never bring my car back to him and have lobbied my neighbors to not either. Mr. Keegan has stayed in business because he charges obscene rates for doing nothing! read more

I've been going to Keegan's for over a year-- engine repairs, exhaust system/pipes, electrical, glass, oil changes-- you name it, on 2003 car, I've needed it done. Every time, Russ Keegan & his mechanics have always been helpful and clear about what needed to be done when, how long it would take, and what could be put off versus what needed to be done sooner when it came down to my budget. They've always been up front on timing, estimates & parts, several times have come in under budget. They're always good for a ride to the T or up into "downtown" J.P. if you need it-- a nice courtesy. I have recommended Keegan's to others, including my curmudgeonly dad, and have kept bringing my car there even though I've moved away from J.P. and live across town. Two plus years later, Russ and his crew have continued to keep my car (140,000 miles plus) running and in great condition, with friendly, prompt service. I don't see myself going anywhere else anytime soon. read more

After reading several good reviews, we thought this was a good place to the take the car. WRONG! He was nice, yes. But he ripped us off and tried to even more. Was having problems with the car running in limp mode. Dropped if off and told him what codes were coming up. He called and said it was fixed, that all that it needed was to have the computer reset. Paid $180 and couldn't even make it the 2 miles home. Same problems, nothing changed. He gave us a machine to borrow to clear the codes and said that could get it to my work and back. Wrong. I had to miss work and basically paid him $180 to hook it up to a machine and clear the codes and then try to tell me it was fixed. Took it back a 3rd time and now he says the timing belt is loose and it will be about $520 to replace. That's just the timing belt, not even the water pump with it...for over $520 and it would take him almost 4 days before it would ready. That means even more work to miss. When we brought up the money that we already gave him, he said that the work he did on it was necessary. What work?? I'm never going here again and I'm taking my car to another place up the road. read more

Brought my Mazda 3 here after many failed attempts at other mechanics in JP to get an engine light issue cleared up. Been through 2 mechanics and at least 6 visits before coming to Keegan's. These guys cleared it up in an afternoon and did it with some of the best customer service I've ever experienced. To boot there was a thank you card in with the info pack you get at checkout.
