I have a very strong prescription with multiple issues in one eye. About three years ago my previous optometrist was able to get me to 20/20 in one eye but with the other I couldn't pass the eye test for my driver's license. He told me that was as good as it was ever going to get. The Morris Eye Group office in Encinitas just got me to 20/20 in both eyes, for the first time in about 10 years. What a huge relief to be able to see clearly again! From their detailed measurements I also have a much better idea of what is eventually in store for my "bad" eye. Agree with most of the positives and negatives especially their frame and lens department. However on my last vist I give them a solid 5 star rating. I had a somewhat emergency situation and they worked me right in. I forgot my credit card and had to go home and get it and come back (I live close) and did not lose my place in line. Emma did all my test and was the only assistant I saw and she,was beyond great. I then saw Dr. Butler and she was fantastic she saw a serious problem that had not been previously detected and one that Morris Eye Group could not handle. Receptionists or whoever confirmed to my wife our insurance was accepted after my wife checking back twice - blue shield ppo... We check her in only to be told they do not accept the insurance - one word - incompetence is what I will use to describe the people they have that verify your insurance. Back Story: Actually they would not have even told my wife they did not accept the insurance we have until my wife asked "why are you telling me about billing after the appointment?" And at this point the person checking her in said - because we do not accept your insurance....Bottomline they will see you and tell you they take your insurance then bill you after the fact and apparently tell you they don't take your insurance. I am simply telling it like it is - it happened this way exactly.....we only have the most expensive ppo blue shield plan money can buy but maybe morris eye group just can't bill enough or get paid enough from blue shield? The technician completely botched my Visual Field Test because she didn't take into account my myopia and so the laser light that should be tracked during the test was too blurry. Dr. Eddie Aminlari didn't catch the problem either and didn't go over the test results with me. I will not be going back. read more

Morris Eye Group is very professional and courteous. I had called before I arrived to verify what cost I would encounter after Medicare and my supplemental insurance. They were very thorough. I had no surprises. I would highly recommend them for your eye care. The only draw back is the waiting time. My appointment was 12:50 and I left close to 3pm. After receiving the incorrect prescription several times, I am no longer interested in attempting to receive the proper care since they clearly can not provide me with correct glasses. My son and I were looking for a new eye doctor and we came across a friend who recommended the Morris Group. We were granted back-to-back appointments within 1 week even though it was the week of Christmas. Everyone in the office was very professional, patient, and made us feel very comfortable. The whole operation was very clean and all of the equipment appeared to be the newest available. We were using machines to check our vision that I have never seen before. I have been an avid lover of the Morris Eye Group staff and facility for years. I grew up in San Diego, currently live in LA area, but still drive to Morris Eye Group for any eye problems/emergencies that arise. Most recently I woke up with a huge swollen, red eye at 6am on a Wednesday morning. I called Morris Eye at 7am, explaining it was an emergency, and that I had to make a same day appointment. I also told the receptionist that I was driving from 1hr 30min away and I would really appreciate if she could fit me since I do not have eye doctor up in LA. The receptionist was very nice. She fit me in for a 10am appointment and I headed straight down from LA. I got to the office around 1005, was seen by 10:15 and left around 10:40 with over the counter drops and sample prescription drops. Four days later my infection was gone and I was seeing perfectly again. Well as perfect as an almost legally blind person can seen. Not only do I go to Morris Eye Group for regular exams, but I have noticed that for the several eye "emergencies" that i have had, the staff is very understanding, always tries to work with my schedule, work very quickly and everyone is always happy and has a sunny disposition. The staff is also very cordial, knows me by name, and doesn't try to oversell me on buying glasses like other eye doctors do. I would recommend Morris Eye Group to anyone that likes thorough doctors and an efficient and caring staff. read more

Dr. Morris, I am shocked at your just posted feedback. First, you CALLED ME to follow-up, which I greatly appreciate, even though it is over a year since my visit and posted "yelp" feedback. Second, I never sated or even suggested that were any financial difficulties - as you intonated in your response. I stated that your business practices were not fair, especially after having to come back a third time and pay a third co-pay for the same condition that was not cleared-up in one or two visits. As we discussed, the condition was addressed shortly thereafter by Scripps, and no return visits to Scripps were required. They diagnosed and treated the problem appropriately the FIRST time. Third, and most egregious, you offered me $50 to remove my negative review, which I refused. While I did not state this on the phone, I find it unconscionable that you would pay former patients to remove a bad review. Do not contact me again. read more

My exam at Dr. Morris Eye Group was completed in a timely manner, less than what was asked, to be prepared to spend 2 hours for the exam. Using the latest eye equipment, a comprehensive report is submitted to the doctor before you enter his office. The evaluation is discussed with you and an eye exam is given to you at a time by the doctor. There is time to ask questions and when you walk out you have a clear picture of how your eyes are functioning. A follow up appointment is made at the desk. The doctor walks you there giving you samples and a smile until your next appointment which he schedules according to your report. read more

If you like bureaucracy, this place is for you. If you like paying too much for simple services, try this conglomerate. If you appreciate being ignored and cut-off, Morris may become your go-to. Personally, I found myself a victim of the classic bait and switch, and then I found myself drowning in a sea of confused and irresponsible paycheck takers who couldn't care less how my treatment turned out. Unfortunately, by the time I had paid, I was in it for the long haul. At this point it's all regrets. I was quoted $49.99 for the first visit...I showed up (after taking off work) and was told $175. After I wrestled with the idea of paying the nearly three times more than the quote, I went for it. 2 hours later, after I had already sunk $175 in it, I am herded to another section where I'm told I need to pay ANOTHER $115 or I can't get contacts! I had made it VERY clear to EVERY PERSON I spoke with this was the only reason I was there!! Speechless... So then I get my contacts and they are the wrong prescription, but at this point I'm hardly surprised. The sad thing is they will never fail, they are too big. But, at least you can save yourself. read more

I was expecting to wait awhile but I was pleasantly surprised to be seen within 20 minutes of my appointment. The receptionist was very pleasant and friendly. The nurses and Dr. Aminlari were also very friendly. I was told to expect about a 2 hour appointment and I was out of there in about an hour and 15 minutes so that was great! I overall had a great experience with everyone. However, the reason for the four stars and not five is because the blonde woman in the optical (glasses) department was extremely rude. She was the last time I came in 2 years ago as well. I understand she was alone and that was stressful but that doesn't give her an excuse to be rude to patients especially ones who are just asking questions. I worked in the customer service industry for a long time and that kind of attitude does not fly. Besides her my experience at Morris was great! Unfortunate to have one person ruin that last star for me. read more

Efficient and friendly staff. Dr. Butler was very helpful, friendly and informative. Very glad I found her. Will be coming back. Came in for the first time due to an allergic reaction in my eye. I went away with answers and a prescription. My eye was better in a few days as predicted by dr. Butler. Came in a second time for my first eye exam in years. Very comfortable facility and staff made me feel comfortable during and after the exam. The candy in bowls around the office also made my 9 year old vey happy!:) only 4 * because this was only my second visit and the actual glasses are a bit pricey. But they are honest enough at this office to tell you you can simply get the prescription and then go get the actual glasses someplace else more suitable to your budget. I went to Morris Eye Group since that's where my insurance is contracted with. The front desk receptionist was just average,but then I saw Dr. Lee Katzman. I have retinal hemorrhaging, and he is the bridge to the retinal specialist that I ultimately need to see. Dr. Katzman spent a good deal of time with me and explained things thoroughly. He is professional and answered all my questions. The office told me ahead of time it would be approximately a 2-hour appt, and it was. However, when I was done, the woman in the back made the appt with the specialist for me, while I waited. She wanted to make sure things went smoothly for me. That was really nice of her! Dr. Crosby is the best. I had cataract surgery the beginning of the year and have had a difficult time adjusting to not wearing glasses all the time. My Vision is perfect and I love not wearing glasses all the time. The adjustment is trying to read. If you can get the lenses for both vision corrections, do. It will make it so easy. Surgery was a snap and recovery simple....I love Dr. Crosby...!!!! read more

This review is strictly for their optical department. Bought both my glasses and frames here, had a bad accident which damaged the frames and lenses. My husband called them to see if I can get the frames replaced with the same ones because I broke my nose. Tech Stephanie said she would check around to see if they were still around and call us to let us know. Of course, no call and no one answers phones there. My husband spoke to the office manager and told her we were waiting for the call. In a huff, she proceeds to tell us that Stephanie left for the day, and she was too busy to call. My husband was enraged at their attitude, and told them so. She said Stephanie would call us today... still waiting. My husband is now going there in person. I kinda love this place. But you better have good insurance OR a savings account you dont mind draining. Every staff member is competent, precise, able to answer your questions..just able!! The Docs are swell. The financial coordinator great. Maybe the Doc is a very good salesman..just ..if you are a senior and hurting, don't buy any deluxe pkg unless you can pay it up quickly. Their lender is Synchrony Bank and the interest rate jumps if you are not on time. Regardless, if you are looking for a full on eager and capable full service practice, this is it!! read more

After a number of office visits I was left waiting for more than 90 minutes after my scheduled appointment time with my 85 year old mother....Dr. Morris display his aloof demeanor when walking into my waiting room and immediately sat in front of the computer screen...clearly he was having a bad day, after the office encounter, I was contacted 2 days before my scheduled surgery and was told that my mother had to be signed off by her cardiologist and needed to be rescheduled, frustrated I decided to move on to another more professional practice...so the moral of the story, prepare to wait, and prepare to pay for the more expensive laser treatment, and prepare to be nickel and dimed for everything. read more

I only go get my eyes checked up yearly and sometimes not even (one appt at a diff doctor they told me not to come back for 8 years or untill something had changed). Ive started coming annually now that i have a need for computer/reading glasses (+.75) . I also scheduled my husband for his checkup here. Facility was fine, nothing much to speak of...the room i was brought into was FREEZING but they quickly fixed the a/c issue (it was the winter so not sure why the ac was on anyhow). Felt like the exam was fine and then met the doctor. He was lovely, thorough and had a very nice demeanor. Decided to take perscription to purchase glasses elsewhere (maybe warby parker or costco) . The frames on site were all VERY expensive, didnt see any under $200 and my insurance only has a $130 allowance. They quoted my husband $180 for his lenses which also seemed really steep considering theyre just +1.25 and available over counter or from Warby parker for $99 including frames! But I appreciated the good service and reliable assessements for both me and my husband. read more

I can't say anything negative about Dr. Butler, but the business aspect has a strong odor of shady, deceptive and unethical. I was scheduled for an appointment and emphasized that the fact that I must submit a request to be absent from work in advance. They called the day before my appointment to say the authorization from the insurance had been denied. The lady told my wife that she had just found out that morning. However, I could keep my appointment and just pay $200 out of pocket. This was the day before my appointment. I went through hell to get the day off just to find out the authorization had been denied. I do not believe that they just so happened to find out the day before. Seems like Morris Eye Group wants to spring things on you at the last minute, then think that instead of canceling it you will just pay them out of pocket. Better for them to get cash in hand over dealing with the insurance. They should have submitted the authorization and when it came back denied, then the primary care provider would resubmit it. I really like Dr. Butler because she actually does work in the interest of the patient. The business side leaves me sceptical. read more

I have been going to another eye doctor for many, many years. This year I retired and started with a new insurance company. My wonderful Dr does not take it, therefore, I had to find another eye doctor. I have gone to the Morris Eye Group for all my 'medical' eye health needs but not just for vision exams. The reason for this is because The Morris group has you move to another room for each test. My previous doctor did all tests in one room, he brought the equipment to me. The only test I moved for was the visual field, which he did the same day. I saw a different doctor at Morris this time who casually informed me that I would need cataract surgery in a year or so! I had never been told I had cataracts forming. He wanted me back for the visual field in two weeks. This of course generates another copay. I will look for another eye dr, that takes my insurance for next years testing. read more

This office is great! During my appointment I was told I would need glasses. After my appointment I was told it would take about 2 weeks to get my new glasses. I called 3 days after my appointment since my headaches were getting worse. I spoke with a miracle worker named Tess. She took the time to listen to my story and she said she would call the wherehouse and see what she could do about getting me my glasses sooner. She called me back that afternoon saying that she put a rush order on my glasses. I recieved a call from her 2 days later that my glasses were in. Thank you Tess for all of your work. This was my first time here. My past experience with Optical places was not always fun. This place was wonderful. Everyone was friendly and answered my questions. I was extremely impressed with how quickly I was taken from one person to another, I don't think I waited more than a few minutes between 'stations'. I was very impressed with Dr. Butler, she is very young ( I was wearing contacts before she was born), but very knowledgeable. I was very happy with my experience here. read more
