I am a former patient of Dr. Tracy. I having been seeing him for around 7 years for dry eye. I once thought he was excellent, but I was recently diagnosed with severe glaucoma and damage to both my optic nerves. The las time I saw Dr. Tracy he told me my eye pressure was normal and I did not have glaucoma. I cannpt believe how he misdiagnosed me. I would warn you not to trust your precious eyes to him. I have been to UC Eye Institute in Irvine and UCSD in La Jolla many times since the very last time I saw Dr. Tracy. Please do not trust him with your vision. He ruined my life!!!! He gave me predisone drops like candy which I now know causes severe glaucoma. read more

Final review: This is a LONG time coming! My surgery date was delayed due to COVID. Natalie called me as soon as optional medical procedures were able to resume. My new surgery date was June 17th. I got a COVID test done beforehand and prepped everything I needed. I showed up to the facility and went through all the check-in processes. I was ushered to the area where my procedure would take place. Eventually Dr. Tracy came in to get me ready. He is extremely thorough! He explained the process and brought me back. Now the procedure itself: it was super fast! It feels like forever when you're on the table, but it was truly quick. The only downside was the overwhelming smell of burnt hair (no kidding!). Directly afterwards I could see a bit, not 100%, but I noticed how improved my vision was. The days following I enjoyed a dark room, lots of naps, lots of eye drops, and lots of audiobooks. I was pretty decently medicated and my follow up appointments went smoothly. Fast forward five months now, my vision is quite possibly perfect. Actually, I would say that my vision was pretty awesome as soon as 2 months after surgery. The tradeoff from going to perfect vision from the severe end of moderate nearsightedness seems to be a mild/moderate case of dry eyes. I apply eye drops several times a day and use an eye gel before bed every night. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat! Would I recommend Carlsbad Eye Care? HIGHLY! read more

If you're considering laser eye surgery, look no further! My boyfriend and I wanted to get laser eye surgery for some time now and decided that it only made sense to see 20/20 in 2020. We did a ton of research and It was clear that Carlsbad Eye Care/Dr. Tracey was a great choice. Just to be sure we asked around for recommendations and even those ended up pointing to Carlsbad Eye Care/Dr. Tracey. We gave them a call and Natalie did an amazing job of providing us with information on what to expect and booked our consultations. The consultations are super informative and help you prepare accordingly. We scheduled our surgeries two weeks a part, my boyfriends first then mine so we could take care of each other. The surgery itself is incredibly quick, it's over before you know it and I didn't feel any pain. They even give you a call that afternoon to check to see how your doing. Post surgery care was pretty manageable, you'll mainly want to sleep and keep your eyes closed. Audiobooks and listening to shows I've already watched kept me entertained. My boyfriend was ready to go back to work after a week. I took about a half week longer to get back to work because I had a hiccup where I was trying to get something that was in my eye out and ended up causing a bit of a tear. It sounds worse than what it was, it didn't really feel like a tear, it kind of felt like a clear eyelash was stuck in my eye and made it water a lot. When I started to experience this discomfort I called Dr. Tracey and he made a point to see me right away. He set me up with a new bandage contact and after about half a weeks more rest, the tear was healed and I was back to work. The 2-3 weeks we returned to work/our routines, our vision was still adjusting, but definitely manageable to carry on. I'd say 4 weeks after surgery we both felt 100% adjusted. It's now been 3 1/2 months post surgery and we couldn't be happier. It is so nice not to worry about glasses or contacts and to just wake up with perfect vision. I had PRK surgery last August and it was one of the best decisions I could've ever made. I've had glasses for about 13 years and having the ability to wake up with perfect vision is amazing. I initially found Dr. Tracy on Groupon and was a bit skeptical because well, it's Groupon. After researching more about him and reading all the reviews, I decided to schedule a consultation. I was 22 years old so Dr. Tracy had to thoroughly look at my eyes to make sure they weren't still undergoing changes and luckily enough, I was able to get prk/lasik. After weighing all the pros and cons, I went with prk. If you're military, it is about $100 cheaper than the Groupon price. I've been waiting about a year to do my review because I wanted to see how my results would be. I didn't choose to get the option for the follow up surgery in case my eyes didn't stay 20/20 and well a year later, I'm still seeing perfectly without glasses. My last checkup, Dr. Tracy said I'm about 20/15 20/10 so I will see if my vision is still that good since unfortunately, I've been forgetting to wear sunglasses after the first few months. Throughout this whole process, Dr. Tracy and his wife Natalie were great. Natalie is super sweet and called often to checkup during the recovery process. After my first initial phone call with Natalie when scheduling the appt. I knew I was in the right hands. Even before I came in she spoke to me, at length, about the procedure itself and how long I would have to be out of contacts so they could get a correct reading of my prescription. I had to be out of contacts for 4 days! Another place I spoke to only told me one, so right away I trusted her. For my first appt, both Natalie and Dr Tracy were amazing. Thorough does not even come close to how well everything was explained to me. We ultimately went with PRK because of my thin corneas (who knew?) I knew the recovery time was going to be a bit longer, but I felt they had prepared me well. Natalie gave me all my prescriptions, and emailed me coupons for all of them since insurance wouldn't cover any of them. I saw them both the day before my surgery for some collagen plugs in my tear ducts (again, who knew?) and I was ready to go. The day of surgery was quick, I was in and out in 30 min. My husband drove me home and within a few hours, Natalie called to see how I was doing and to remind me to start taking my eye drops. I'm not going to lie, things didn't go perfect for me as I had excessive tearing, and they were there for me when I called on Saturday to find out what to do. I am now about 10 days post-op and my vision is getting better ever day. I came to Dr Tracy with a -9.50 prescription and was sick of wearing contacts and glasses. He recommended PRK because of how high my prescription was and I agreed. I had the procedure done last fall and I am now seeing perfectly!! It really is incredible to be able to see so crystal clear. The surgery itself was a breeze and recovery was not too bad either. Dr. Tracy and his wife Natalie (who works as receptionist in the office) are amazing! I had been considering LASIK or PRK for years and kept putting it off because I couldn't find a Dr I trusted. Once I met Dr. Tracy I felt completely comfortable and decided to go ahead with PRK after he explained the risks and benefits of PRK and LASIK. I am very active so PRK was a better option for me and I felt confident Dr. Tracy would do an excellent job! The surgery itself was quick and easy and Dr. Tracy explained everything he was doing so I felt comfortable. I experienced some pain for the first few days but the pain meds helped and I was able to sleep a lot and recover quickly. I took the pain meds for 3-4 days and then I didn't need them anymore. I wasn't able to see well enough to drive for the first week but by the second week my vision improved enough for me to do everything I used to do with contacts and has continued to improve each month. It has been 5 months now since my surgery and I have 20/20 vision with no halos, sensitivity to light or other complications. Dr. Tracy and Natalie are always available right away if I have a concern or question and are so personable, I am so happy I chose Carlsbad Eye Care for my surgery! I am writing this a little more than six months since my PRK surgery with Dr. Tracy, and I continue to be extraordinarily happy with the whole experience. The takeaways: If you are considering laser eye surgery, you need to be committed to having a number of appointments over a few months; you need to take a few days off following the surgery; and you need patience for the first 2-8 weeks while your eyes heal and your vision improves. If you can do all that, you will be rewarded with fabulous healthy eagle eyes!!! I am so grateful for my perfect vision and my flawless experience with Dr. Tracy and Natalie. My story: I looked for a groupon for laser eye surgery and when I found one with Dr. Tracy/Carlsbad Eye Care, I then went to Yelp and read all the great reviews of him here. I researched eye surgery, both lasik and PRK, and then bought the deal. It was easy to schedule appointments. Natalie was sweet, always pleasant to talk to, and scheduling was always straightforward. I ran late a couple of times and she was so accommodating. There was an initial consultation and then I think another appointment or two before surgery. One con for me was all the trips from San Diego to Carlsbad for appointments, but it was worth it. Dr. Tracy is direct, thorough, honest, efficient, and good-natured. He gives great explanations and will make sure all your questions and concerns are addressed. He has a goofy personality but a serious approach to his work and an earnest pleasure in helping his patients. After discussing the options, PRK seemed like the right choice for me. PRK and Lasik are quite similar, with similarly great results and low risks. Dr. Tracy convinced me that PRK would be a slightly better fit for my eyes. I had my surgery on a Thursday (I believe all his surgeries are on this day) at the end of September 2014. The surgery itself took around 15 minutes and was not stressful for me at all. A friend drove me home and then I was out of commission Thursday-Sunday as my eyes healed. Honestly, those first few days were pretty rough. My eyes were in pain and I kept them closed much of the time. Painkillers make me sick, so I took the absolute minimum possible. But I looked at that time as a forced break from the busy demands of life, and spent lots of time meditating and listening to music and podcasts. The first month after surgery was a time of healing. My vision was blurry at first, but got better day by day. I was rigorous about putting in all the various eye-drops according to the doctor's instructions. I had regular follow up appointments with Dr. Tracy. At the end of two months, my vision was perfect. Dr. Tracy has me continuing to use rewetting eye drops several times a day, just to help lubricate and heal and make my eyes the very best possible. I follow his instructions, but I want to be clear that it doesn't feel like my eyes need anything. They feel GREAT! This place is great. I had an eye exam with them today because I've had significant dry/red eye issues the past couple years. Dr. Tracy is very knowledgeable on anything and everything that has to do with your eyes. He diagnosed my problem quickly and told me I probably don't even need glasses! The optometrist I went to a couple years ago immediately assumed it was a vision problem and wasn't anywhere near as knowledgeable. I first purchased my lassik through groupon and I was very nervous about it. I am so glad I made that decision, Dr. Tracy and his wife are both amazing. I have been going through a cycle of migraines and I had to re-schedule my appointment several times. Luckily, the receptionist Natalie was very understanding and waited till I felt better to re-schedule. She even told me I can cancel my groupon because it expires and they will still give me the same low price. Overall, they both make you feel very comfortable and are always happy to answer your questions anytime. I got the PRK, the Dr. told me it was a better option for me because I was younger and it is a lot safer than lassik because there is no flap. On the day of the surgery I was nervous, they put numbing drops in your eyes give you valume to relax you. I immediately felt better when I saw the doctor. My parents came with me and they were actually able to watch the whole procedure from the window on the big screen TV. It was only 10 minutes for both eyes! and the Doctor walks you through the procedure. He explains what he will do next and tells you what you will feel. The recovery procedure is a bit uncomfortable but totally manageable, you get a lot of painkillers to help you get through it. I am now two months after surgery and my vision gets better every day. I saw perfect vision right after surgery but it gets better every day. There are a lot of eye drops that you need to put in your eyes very frequently but it is worth it. Overall, I am 100% satisfied with my experience, I have 20/20 vision and I still can't believe I don;t have to wear contacts ever again. Thank you Dr. Tracy you are amazing! read more

Let me start off by saying THANK YOU Dr. Tracy! I had PRK a little over 2 months ago and I'm seeing the best I've ever seen!! I'm not going to lie, the first two days were really difficult, but it's worth it in the end!! He is friendly and more importantly, incredibly knowledgable. 5 stars all around! I was at ease the moment I stepped into his office. Both Natalie and Dr Tracy are very friendly and easy to talk to. They made information easy to absorb and very clear. By the time I left the first office visit, i wasn't nervous or anxious, but excited for the big day. On the day of the surgery, everything was just as easy and smooth. There was no pain and very little discomfort (more psychological effect of eyelid retractors...brrr) I walked out of the office, already with better vision and perfectly happy. The pain was moderate for the first 3 days, only if I don't apply the numbing eye drops at least every 2 hours. . I had 20/20 vision by the first week, and no discomfort. I had been thinking of doing Lasik for years now and was lucky enough to find Dr Tracy. He was amazing. I had to have PRK because I had lasik in my one eye 10 years ago. Dr. Tracy and Natailie were incredible. The knowledge/expertise, and customer service they provided me was truly incredible. I could not be happier with my experience; I am greatful for them and the gift of vision. I was really impressed that Dr. Tracy does all eye examinations himself. Most other places have a tech do the tests. I felt assured that my PRK would be custom for my vision needs. Dr. Tracy and Natailie were so informative and told me exactly what to expect after surgery. I actually did not have pain after surgery just light sensitivity and lots of tearing. One time in the middle of the night I woke with some pain and just put some in my eyes and went back to sleep. You don't have to get your glasses there either. He'll just give you your prescription and you can buy your glasses somewhere else if you want. Dr. Tracy is awesome! He actually listens to his patients. I have been diagnosed with dry eye by other doctors and initially he thought the same. But he really paid close attention to how I was responding to the treatments and was able to conclude that it's not dry eye and that it is probably something neurological (which is what I've thought for a long time). Dr. Tracy is literally as good as it gets!! I booked a consultation appointment at CEC after seeing their Groupon. I know I know, buying surgery from a Groupon sounds sketchy AF but once you go in your mind is immediately at ease. Natalie made the whole scheduling process extremely easy and offers options that best fit your schedule. Once I got there I filled out minor paperwork that took about 10 minutes and I was getting my examination within 15-20 minutes of getting there. Dr. Tracy was wonderful-- he details everything he is going to do from the beginning and he constantly checks to see if your uncomfortable. After my examination he suggested I was a better candidate for PRK. It's a longer healing process but ultimately better in the long run. With his expertise and knowledge I didn't hestitate, I immediately went with his recommendation. The surgery is done offsite on a Thursday and it's over way faster than you expect. My appointment was set for 9:45am and I was out of the building by 10:15. I didn't have to wait at all, they brought me in right away. PRK is more painful afterward than LASIK, which Dr. T explained to me from the beginning but he said I would be provided with more than enough pain killers to get me through the weekend. So from Thursday to Monday all I did was sleep in a dark room and have pain killers for breakfast (honestly not a bad time). The consultation and surgery were the easiest part of the process-- the time it took to heal from PRK was the issue. It took me about 3 months before my eyes healed and the blurry vision was gone. Everyone is different though. At the time I wish I had just done LASIK because it was a quick fix but looking back I'm glad I chose PRK. My last check-up appointment with Dr. T I was seeing 20/10!!! Better than perfect and its bow been 10 months post-op and I could not be happier with the results. For anyone looking at Dr. T's reviews wondering if he's legit because he is on Groupon....HE IS! AND YOU WILL NOT REGRET GOING TO HIM! Dr. Tracy and Natalie are the dream team when it comes to your eyes! I could't be happier with my new eyes :) PS- I got the surgery when I had eyelash extensions and they were not an issue. Dr. T was extremely careful and none of my lashes got ripped out. Dr. Michael Tracy and Natalie made my experience incredible. I live in Lake Havasu City, AZ and decided I wanted to go to the coast to find an eye doctor to perform my surgery. I wanted to find a doctor that had done a lot of Lasik/PRK. After going to a few consultations I found my doctor in Michael Tracy. He has apparently done close to 10,000 procedures I believe. His care and expertise was fantastic and his price was very good as well. His assistant Natalie seemed to be an incredible expert as well and her customer service was superb. It has now been about a month since the PRK procedure and I could not be happier with my eyes or with their service. You can tell they strive for excellence in everything they do and because of that I now have incredible vision. I literally went from 20/400 to 20/20 in 20 minutes. There was of course some healing time the first few weeks but all and all very little discomfort especially considering the reward. Incredible service and incredible doctor. After finding them on groupon for lasik/PRK, I booked a free consultation. Their office is in a beautiful location, and the surgery center was conveniently located closer to DT San DIego. Dr. Tracy and his wife Natalie (also the receptionist) were very helpful and friendly from the get-go, I could tell they had a ton of experience with this procedure. I called numerous times to ask and re-ask questions about the procedure and payment options and recovery, and every time they were beyond patient and friendly. Every step of the way was explained to me in detail and given to me in writing, and I received reminder phone calls as well as emails-which I appreciated. One thing I wish was different, I did not receive my after procedure instructions until after the procedure. I do wish I received those ahead of time so that I could familiarize myself with what to do before I couldnt see/was all loopy from the drugs. It may have also helped to reduce my anxiety on surgery day because I wouldnt have to worry about making sure I wasnt missing any information and was going to be doing everything correctly-but not a big deal at all. I never felt like anything was being pushed on me. They were very flexible and willing to work with my schedule and were upfront about everything. They told me to take my time in deciding if I wanted to do the surgery, and there was never any cancellation or late fees, or any other hidden fees. Just the surgery fee and the prescriptions (which in total cost me $30.00. While the procedure was not covered by any insurance all the prescriptions were, and I dont even have great health insurance). Lasik/PRK is not a cheap procedure, but I did not feel over-charged and felt very comfortable with these doctors the whole time. This is not the most expensive place in town, but it is also not the cheapest. Up to you to decide what kind of experience you want to have. Everything was fast, I had two pre-appointment testings (which are about an hour long, but that is because of all the tests they do to decide which laser eye surgery procedure is best for you and if you are even a candidate), the surgery, and a few follow up appointments, and I never had to wait to see the doctor at any of these. I even showed up half an hour late to one of my appointments and it was no big deal! Dr. Tracy recommended PRK for me. The procedure itself really is painless, but it was terrifying, not going to lie! They did a great job making me feel as comfortable as possible, and gave me a Valium before hand as well as a teddy bear to hug during the procedure (which, having something for your hands to do really helps...). Their procedures are on Thursdays. After the procedure, I ended up having some intense pain over the weekend, which was taken care of by the pain pills I was prescribed, but it was not fun. Because of my vision, I did not feel like I could go back to work/do anything that required good vision until a week after my procedure, but this is different for everyone who gets PRK-they told me most people are ready to go back to work the Monday following the procedure. My eyes are dry after the procedure, but nothing too uncomfortable following that initial weekend. All-in-all it was easy and I would recommend it to anyone on the fence, especially with Dr. Tracy and Natalie. read more
