A data breach at Total Vision which Pacific View Eyecare is part of occurred on October 30, 2020. Letters to patients were dated December 4, 2020 and sent via bulk mail so weren't received until sometime in January 2021. Instead of offering a free year of credit monitoring as most places do when an identity security data breach occurs, Total Vision's solution was to recommend getting a free annual credit report. read more

I was in the market for some new eye glasses. A friend of mine recommended this business. I went in about a week ago and was seen. The staff was very friendly and helpful in looking for some glasses that fit my requirements. After placing the order the finished glasses arrived in less than a week's time. I just went in and fitted them and with one minor adjustment was out the door. The glasses came with everything I ordered and were a perfect match to my vision requirements. I'm very happy to have gone to this business not only for the quality of the product but the friendliness of the staff to treat you like they really wanted to make you happy. I have been coming to Dr. Hutchinson's Eyecare practice for over 30 years and with good reason. He and his staff are first class when it comes to patient and customer care. The on-site opticians, Catherine and Mandy are all about customer service. They seem to work magic with insurance coverage and have done several miraculous saves for me over time. They have a solution for whatever you need, be it new frames, replacement lenses, sunglasses or what ever else you might need. Even some solutions for "unusual" repairs, like driving over a frame that wasn't totally destroyed. Try Total Vision as they're now called. You won't be disappointed. read more

I would not recommend this place for eye care. Pricing quoted to me and what was charged was completely different and much higher. I was told it was because I hadn't met my deductible so they charged me the total deductible amount versus what I was originally quoted. Even though I paid in cash on the day of my appointment and I received invoices for different amounts (less than what I paid). Last straw, today I called and requested my contact prescription for my right eye and they had the nerve to tell me they didn't have a contact prescription for my right eye only for glasses. My appointment was for contacts for both eyes. I didn't decide to purchase only my left contact until after my appointment and now I have to make another appointment (elsewhere) ! We scheduled well in advance and received a text message reminder of our appointments. When we got here, they told us we were not in their system and there is nothing they can do. We verified it was the right location. The clerk said she could reschedule us for 3 days later. In the days of covid planning- this was pretty brutal. Apparently they had a system change over but failed to update us (and lord knows how many others). Worse - not apologetic or sympathetic at all. I have built an entire career with my artistic vision, interpreting and presenting information for other people to see clearly. The tables turned after I was bit by a poisonous spider whose venom caused damaged to my optic nerve. Suddenly I was the person needing visual reinforcement. I turned to Yelp to locate an exceptional doctor and found Dr. Hutchinson. I was reluctant to accept the fact that my eyes are no longer 10/20 and need prescription glasses to see all of the details around me. It took me over a month after a vision test to return and place my order. The enthusiastic staff at Pacific View Eyecare center helped me pick out frames that work with my features that I feel good about wearing. These glasses arrived and it was not the fairy-tale ending that I had hoped for. I tried using them but something was amiss so I returned for a fitting. Doctor Hutchinson brought me in the back and performed a myriad of tests to make sure that everything was perfect and discovered that an error had been made. They are replacing my lenses with no questions asked. Unexpected situations can bring out the best or the worst in people, and Pacific View Eyecare center handled this situation with grace. Their 2021 contract for orthoK is $2400+. Unfortunately the lenses were not not working for my teenage daughter, who complained that the nighttime halos were too disruptive for her to drive. That's alot of money, so please be careful when signing up for this service, ESPECIALLY when its for teenagers. The front staff called us constantly for a follow up visit. When I told them that the lenses were not working for us, they said come in anyway and we'll see what the doctor can do. This is where the problems arose: (1) the doctor had no clue about my daughter's problem and just wanted to charge for the additional visit; and (2) they did not warn us that the additional visit was going to cost us $200. There would have been more fees for the OCT and 'fitting' fees if we had bought into those too... Geez. Just go to Costco where they only charge $100 and the optometrist is more genuine. It pains me to realize that I could have avoided this whole fiasco by getting a prescription for atropine, which also would have been covered by insurance. A truly unfortunate experience. Please search harder for ortho K providers who stand by their service, or at the very least give fair warning for all their upcharges. read more

After many, many visits to other optometrists and not having anyone able to prescribe the correct strength, I finally found Dr. Hutchinson. The entire office staff are wonderful. Mandy assisted me in finding the perfect PRADA frames. Although I wasn't 100% sure of the color, she sold me. After wearing them for 3 weeks, I LOVE THEM! I was so pleased with my entire experience. I have recommended this office to my husband. No more fighting tooth and nail, with multiple visits and numerous prescriptions from other eyecare offices. I trusted Pacific View Eyecare after I had some problems with my vision. I thought Dr. Hutchinson would help get me some good glasses and contacts and help me with my vision problems. He didn't. The two women who work for him sold me three pairs of very expensive glasses. They told me I could change them out from progressive back to regular glasses if I wasn't happy. That was totally untrue and I lost $550 On one pair of glasses alone! Not sure how these guys are so expensive when they take insurance. The worst pair was to replace my readers from Costco. I love my readers from Costco. I read great with them but my sales person insisted that I needed to spend a lot more money to get "Custom" . When they showed up after two weeks, I could not read out of them. They sent them back and redid them. I still can't read out of them. What a waste of money and of course they would not refund them.The contact lenses which I also paid a lot for have never worked well for me..... but the very worst part of dealing with this company was during the pandemic. We were right in the worst part of it and I needed to get more contacts. I discovered they were about half the price online than Dr. Hutchinson was charging (!) When the online company tried to get an approval from Dr. Hutchins and he would not allow it. He insisted that I come in in the middle of a pandemic for a whole new exam! Who does that? I thought it was also totally creepy and weird when one of the sales woman told me to be careful what I say when speaking to her because she said that Dr Hutchinson listens to everything they say with the customers through a microphone At their desks. What??? My husband had a similarly bad experience and we will never go here again. read more

We have been going to Pacific View Eyecare for the last 15-16 years. The entire team is great, but it is really Mandy & Katherine that keeps us coming back every year. They are AMAZING! The frame selection is great and I can never decide what to get, but they always help in making great decisions. My kids have worn glasses since they were very little. Once they got older, about 9-10 they decided they wanted to wear contacts. My kids needed multiple visits for learning how to put them in and take them out and they were so helpful and patient with them to train them to wear them. First time with Pacific View. I chose it because it was close and I thought (foolishly) that they were all good. They gladly took my insurance and personal money (hundred$) for the frames and bi-focals. The lenses were NOT correct but they told me to wear they for awhile and I would adjust. I don't need to wear them daily so by the time I realized how bad they were, it was too late. My money was gone and I'm stuck with nice looking (I paid lots of my own money) glasses that are useless. I prefer and use my $2.99 readers. I won't be going back. An expensive lesson learned. read more

The ladies that help with frames and lenses are very friendly and helpful. I have been going here now for about 2 years and am very satisfied. Very disappointed. When I made the appointment to have my eyes examined, the receptionist told me it would not cost anything because my insurance covers it. They tried to upsell me on an exam that can be done by another method other than drops in the eyes. I passed and wanted it done the old way at no extra cost. The Dr was just ok but I felt it was rushed. Then she said she wouldn't do the drops in the eye test and that I'd have to comeback for that test. In the notes, she wrote that the patient didn't want the drops , not true! The eyeglasses they showed me were expensive so I just wanted the Rx so I could shop around. The hard sell was intimidating. I left without the Rx but got my nerve back to return the next day and got it.It's like they didn't want me to leave with the RX. AND the exam was NOT free/covered by ins. I paid for an office visit and an eye exam. Finally, got Rx glasses elsewhere and the Rx is not correct. I cannot even see my TV menu from sitting 10 ft away. I have to get up to 6 ft to be able to read the letters. I would never go back. Don't trust them! read more

I will immediately be switching from this optometrist. I had an eye exam in February and my contact prescription was changed. When I received the contacts the prescription was too strong in my right eye. I reached out to the office and left 4 voicemails over the course of several months and never got a response. I decided to just tough it out with the contacts I was given, but it started serious effecting me so I called once again and finally reached a human. I explained my frustration and the person on the other line said it wasn't their job to check voicemails. I was able to get an appt to recheck my contacts and then I arrived for my appt (scheduled at 11) and I am currently waiting still to be seen and it's 11:39 right now. I asked the front desk lady, who is currently chomping on some loud food behind the counter, if I was still going to be seen because I have work (which is why I scheduled the appt at 11) and she pretty much just disregarded me. This office is ridiculous. I'm out as soon as they make this contact situation right. read more

Regretably, I have nothing positive to say about our experience with Pacific View Eyecare Center. We traveled well out of our way on several occasions to come to the office (more on that later) because they assured me when I called that they were well equipped to see children and had much experience with kids. We needed a great eye doc for our son (5 years old), and so we took him for two visits (one a few months before he started kinder and one just about 3 weeks prior at their direction). Both times it was clear they were not pros at handling children. After the second visit we were instructed he needed glasses, so we selected a pair there and were told we would recieve a call when they were ready in about two weeks for pickup and fitting. After three weeks of no call, we called and got 'oh yeah they've been here for a while.' We went on two separate occasions when they said they were open to pick them up AND NO ONE WAS THERE (one of the times there was even a door sticker from UPS stating that they tried to drop something off HOURS earlier)! For a two parent working household with two kids, this is a disaster and a waste of time. We then called the office several times and left unreturned messages when we decided to just ask for our money back and get a copy of the prescription emailed to us. I had to stay on the phone with Maricel today and refuse to hang up in order to get her to finally email me the prescription (from the office visits our insurance was billed for). In regards to returning our money for the glasses, she tried to say I will call you back today or tomorrow. I told her that wasn't acceptable and I expect a call today. We will see if that happens. I am shocked at just how unprofessional this office is. In addition to this review which I hope will keep someone else from experiencing this headache, I will be sharing my experience with our insurance company, the BBB and, if the money is not returned, filing a fraud complaint with our credit card company. read more

I made an appointment with Pacific View for contacts and glasses and wow am I disappointed. I was told when I checked in my insurance has an allowable amount for both and even asked questions to make sure I pick correctly for insurance to pay. After I was told totally different numbers and told my insurance doesn't cover contacts at all! I was also told it was a $20 co pay and that's it and then the woman said it would be another $50! I was so fed up I said I'll just go back to Walmart where I've never had an issue and never paid such outrageous prices. She then held my contact prescription and would not give it to me. After they admitted they gave me the wrong cost (a few different times). They seem all about money, don't care at all to fix their mistake. At the end she even took back the free pair of sunglasses she had said I got with my appointment. They will still be billing my insurance so I should get the contact prescription. Don't go there, go to Walmart or Costco and get treated with respect and not price gauged! read more

The front office staff was very helpful. The eye doctor appears to be kind at first. I had a question regarding the interns findings of my eyes. The Doctor got defensive and said "it's your eyes, tell me what prescription to write." He didn't offer to talk with me or re examine my eyes. This was also my first time seeing this Doctor. He changed my contacts but not my glasses prescription. I felt pushed out of the office and went to Costco to get my eyes checked properly. Don't go here! read more

The doctor couldn't be more attentive or professional and the staff is outstanding. This eye doctor actually listens to you instead of trying to sell you something not needed. I have been a patient of Dr. Hutchinson for 22 years. He was the first eye doctor I saw, based on the recommendation of a family friend. He and his staff (I love the ladies in the office) always make me feel welcome and comfortable, and they always spend extra time listening to and trying to help me deal with my 'special' eyes; my prescription is complicated and can seemingly change every 3-6 months. I joke that I pretend I can't see just so I can visit with the office staff, but I really can't see (OR CAN I???)! I have been there at least once a week for the last month or so. In fact, I was just there this morning dropping off contact lenses to trade them for ones that might work. I always feel awkward (because I really am) and like I talked too much and told too many personal stories (because I really do) when I leave there, but they're really nice to me regardless (It's because I'm adorable and charming in my awkwardness). I actually look forward to my annual (or semi-annual, or morethanthat-annual) visits, and, having a doctor who genuinely cares about his patients is comforting, to say the least. We were faithful customers for a few years, never missed an appointment and genuinely liked everyone at the office. It was even nice seeing our names on a whiteboard as we entered the office. "Welcome..." It was welcoming. Dr. Hutchinson was very nice and courteous, and even helpful at first...seemed liked we finally found an eye doctor we really liked. We went in for our normal yearly checkup and everything went well. Dr. Hutchinson recommended us to change contacts, so he said we need to come back in, try out the contacts and see how they work. We went for a followup appointment for the contacts. There was some dryness and we received a sheet of paper on how to address dry eye. We didn't receive any treatment, drops, nothing. Just a sheet of paper telling us what to do. We left thinking all we needed to do was follow the sheet and we would be fine. A few days later, I received a bill in the mail from Dr. Hutchinson. I figured there might have been a mistake, we had no appointment, just a contact lens follow up. So I called up the office. The receptionist was very nice, and even though I had an issue with the billing, she was very respectful and courteous. We couldn't figure out what happened, so she offered to have Dr. Hutchinson call me and try to clear things up. I thought that was great, he is a really great guy, I'm sure he can clear things up for me. Boy was I WRONG. I explained my issue with the bill. It seemed that we were being billed for a follow up contact visit. He explained that it was a dry eye issue and therefore a medical issue and it was billed as a medical issue. Apparently, at some point in time our followup turned into a medical appointment. I disagreed and said we came in for the contacts not a dry eye issue. At that point he completely changed and became very rude and argumentative, and that is putting it lightly. I won't go into details, but I just ended the conversation by saying "I'm not going to argue with you" I'll pay the bill and ended it. This whole review really isn't about the money. They constantly tried to make us buy stuff from their office and no where else. We declined and there was some pressure to buy stuff, but they never made us buy anything we didn't need. Its a business, I understand, so its not a problem. This is more about how UNPROFESSIONAL and RUDE Dr. Anthony Hutchinson was in handling our issue. I have no problem paying for services performed. I don't even mind paying a little more for the personal and courteous service of a professional that is going to give me better service. If you are looking for an eye doctor, please take this review to heart and don't bother coming here. There are a lot more professional and courteous doctors out there. read more

My wife and I have been going to Dr. Hutchinson for a couple of years now. At first i was getting disposable contacts and yearly exams only... when one day Dr. Hutchinson mentioned that i was a perfect candidate for this procedure called CRT (Corneal Refractive Therapy) as i did not want to go through Lasik or any actual surgery. I passed on it the first time around and continued to get my pleasant service for my contact lenses. I thoroughly enjoy going to his office and i have absolutely no complaints. So back to the CRT, at the beginning of this year i decided it was time to ditch the contacts as i have been wearing them for 10 years and hated dealing with dry eyes and losing them when i am out surfing. As i was not willing to undergo surgery, i opted for the expensive "nightly" contacts of CRT which would allow me to have corrected vision for the whole day... the only catch is i would have to sleep in them every night. Without going into too much detail, as you can read up on it or better, yet go see Dr. Hutchinson, the contacts must still be worn daily (actually nightly) and can be slightly irritating at first and if the proper handling and cleaning instructions are now followed, since then i have gotten fairly used to them and they actual make me sleep better. They shape (form) your eyes during the night as you sleep and you have corrected vision throughout the following day with no contacts in... no joke! And they work excellent if you remember to wear them every day; i have something like 20:15 vision now. The only downsides i see are the cost, slight discomfort, and the slight halos i get at night... but all of these are the same as i hear you get from Lasik without the risk of surgery and CRT is completely reversible (so they say). So, for what i wanted out of the deal, i got it exactly! I was also informed of all of this prior to signing on the dotted line which is very much appreciated. Bottom-line, i am a very pleased customer of Pacific View Eyecare, Dr. Hutchinson, and their entire awesome staff! read more

Dr. H has an extensive background in dealing with anything optical. For children who have problems reading because of midline issues and perceptional visual acuity issues, his exercises are great. For older adults and anyone in between, Dr. Hutchinson is very thorough. The tests are extensive but simple. I like Drs that I can count on. read more
