Poor disclosure regarding eye exams. Came in for glasses. Was told I needed eye exams but no explanation that it included a bunch of expensive tests that related to eye disease not just vision. Beware and ask questions before accepting any service! I called and the manager refused to do anything! read more

I ordered my custom frames through Mandy at this location after I waited in line while the customer before me complained of waiting 3 months for her glasses (and they were wrong when they came)! Then it was my turn, that customer's experience made me think twice as I reluctantly handed over my frames for my lens order. I should've listened to my gut because 5 weeks later I have been promised my glasses three times only to have them no-show. There is a new manager named Lee. Does he care? Nope- just arguing me about semantics and plays games with no solutions. They continue to blame "the lab"... I will never go here, anyone that goes here is bound to go through this customer service nightmare. Don't do it. read more

I've had the worst experience at Total Vision Solana Beach. DO NOT GO HERE. If I could post less than a star, I would have. My glasses took well over two weeks because the lab lost the frames! And then they finally came in with the wrong prescription in them! They women who work there do not seem to care about customer service. They say they're going to call you back and they don't. Every time I call, they said we'll call the lab and call you back by the end of the day and NEVER DID. It has been over a month and I am still waiting for my glasses. A month and a week after I gave them my frames I called them on a Tuesday. They said the glasses had come in the previous Friday, but nobody thought to call me. If you want your eye glasses done right the first or even second or third time, don't go here! I am still waiting for my glasses, so many mistakes, so much turnover, this place is VERY unorganized and you can tell patients are frustrated when you are stuck waiting in the office so long. Even one manager on her way out admitted the staff is just not trainable. I am still waiting for my glasses that were done wrong several times. Dr. Chan himself is really cool and very nice, staff is HIGHLY unorganized and does not know how to spec glasses/frames right and they even lost my glasses one of the times, another time they didn't center them and the last time they were broken, still waiting for my 4th pair..... My family has been coming to this location for our eye exams, contacts and glasses for a few years now. The Dr is excellent! I've been extremely happy with the corrections to my prescriptions and feel like my vision is the best it's been. The facility is clean, top of the line testing machines and they have lots of frames available to choose from. Prices are reasonable. And very importantly, the staff is caring and friendly. Mandy , at the desk, is always very welcoming , works efficiently and is very knowledgeable. I can say from personal experience that she goes above and beyond to handle and correct a situation If something goes sideways with the lab. Even though it's not her error, she accepts the responsibility and works quickly to correct the situation; she handles it professionally and VERY NICELY which counts for a lot my book! She moves the needle for us! Parking is easily available. They close early on Fridays and not open on weekends. I'm happy with the service here. read more

Only recently do we have a problem with this business. We have requested our medical records be transferred to our new optometrist at least 4 times over the past month and they still have not sent our records. Each time we call, they say they will do it, but the new doctor still has not received the records. Dr. Chan himself has been great, but we have a different doctor now and this office has not yet provided our records despite numerous requests and ample time. I've been going to Dr Chan for more than 15 years now and the service gets better and better. Christopher at the front desk does a great job scheduling, placing orders for lenses & contacts. He's a well-trained professional who conveys a sense that he truly cares about the patients. I just had my annual check up and was fitted for contact lenses with a new prescription. Through testing lots of different lenses at the office we discovered that the best solution was wearing one contact (because I have issues with both distance and close-up now, due to my age). My new box of contacts arrived in about two days, which was great. I also had progressive lenses added to sunglass frames I already own and was very happy with the way the process went. Dr Chan is thorough and explains things in an easy to understand manner. Great office and I highly recommend them to anyone needing an exam, contacts or glasses. read more

Not too impressed . My profession has a high visual acuity demand and my prescription was a complete bust . New glasses worse than my four year old Rx . How can it go that badly ? I'm not even interested in finding out about a refund . As for the check up ? I went to see an MD two weeks later who is concerned I might have glaucoma . Definitely recommend this place. I was recommended to go to see Dr Chan by a friend. I havent had my eyes tested for a while and I was shocked (in a good way!) at how thorough the exam is here. You are tested on at least 4 special machines to check the insides of your eyes then Dr Chan does a further regular eye sight exam. It was all very professional and friendly and I am so pleased i chose to go here. Dr Chan explained all the options to me and then his super friendly and knowledgeable team helped me choose the right glasses to match my budget. I have already recommended Dr Chan to a friend! OMG ... what a doll! I just had a stupid contact folded over and stuck in my eye! One place had the nerve to want to charge me $160! Frustrated I tried for another hour to take it out myself! Finally, I googled and their name came up. I called and she was so sweet, saying to come on in and they would take care of it! The doctor put some dye in my eye and in 2 minutes it was gone! NO CHARGE! I will be back to buy my frames there as needed! Meantime, isn't it refreshing to know that there are great people out there ??? read more

I have been seeing Dr. Chan for about 7 years now. I have very complicated issues with my eyes resulting from RK surgery in the 90's that left both corneas scarred and irregular-as a result my vision is compromised. Dr. Chan is one of the few eye doctors in the area with the skill and patience to deal with my problem...he is extremely patient and has kept my vision as good as it could be under the circumstances. I couldn't disagree with these reviews more. I thought the doctor was wonderful and the staff was so nice. They went out of their way to be helpful. They special-ordered a frame for me. I even saw one employee make a paper airplane for a little boy. The doctor was very honest with me and told me that a certain type of lens wouldn't be worth the money and saved me a few hundred dollars. I didn't feel like I was being "sold" anything. The Dr. is ok, but they charged me a contact lens fitting fee of $180 in addition to the $150 exam fee. My insurance covered the exam, but most insurance companies don't cover contact expenses so the fitting fees typically come out of your pocket. I already wear contacts and only needed a slight prescription update so my "fitting" took a total of 5 minutes. After leaving DM Eyecare I called a few other local places and none of them charge more than $80. I will NEVER go back here again, and unless you have and extra $100+ lying around I recommend you check into other local optometrists. read more

I have only been a patient of Dr. Chan's since January 2015, but since that time he has been an incredible help to not just myself buy my family as well. I am not an easy patient because I ask a million questions and want to know why my eyes work or don't work. Dr. Chan didn't just answer questions about myself, but also went above and beyond to help my mom with her eye troubles and she isn't even a patient of Del Mar Eyecare. My mom has suffered for the last 50 years from painful dry eyes with pain and vision troubles that her current doctor had been unable to solve. Dr. Chan put her on the dry eye regimen and she could not be happier. She said for the first time in her life her eyes dont hurt all the time and the light sensitivity that caused so many issues is going away. My only wish is that we had found Dr. Chan sooner. If you are considering to go there for a simple yearly eye exam, be aware. The whole staff including Dr. Chan will try to sell you unnecessary procedures, tests, ointment, drops,frames etc. Not a good feeling in this place. Not anymore. Del Mar Eyecare really does care! I live with my elderly parents, and this place has helped us three times. Twice they adjusted my father's glasses with no charge and with such a friendly and helpful attitude. Most recently my mother lost her right eye in a fall and was very self conscious about the way she looked. I went again and asked if they could help put a dark lense in her glasses over that eye. Not only could they help, but they did it on the spot for a very low fee ! I was thrilled, and it changed my mother's attitude to meeting her friends and resuming her life. The people here are always friendly, helpful and very caring. I will go back to them for my own glasses and eye care for sure! People really count here. read more

Dr. Chan's equipment is so high tech. Everyone was really friendly and I loved the selection of glasses.

Dr. Chan helped me obtain some "computer glasses" which have been great. I spend long hours on the computer and eyestrain was a real problem. These new glasses have eliminated the problem and made my work much easier. Dr. Chan gave me a thorough eye examination with the latest technology and was able to create glasses that really addressed my eye issues. His staff has been very helpful and professional and the overall experience was easy. I referred my sister to him recently.
