I have given Morris Eye Group many chances but this is the last one. I have to agree with everyone about the wait time...way too long. I have worked in Optometrists and Opthalmologists offices before and never had our patients wait so long! Getting glasses there is a rip off...they try to get you to pay out of pockets costs without you realizing it. I was also told I need vitamins and a couple of test (again extra fee's not covered by insurance!). Lot of up selling done here. I will be getting my glasses elsewhere and will start looking for another eye doctor! read more

The staff at the Encinitas office was very friendly, thorough and professional. I had the usual tests done by different technicians before seeing Dr. V and each technician was friendly and efficient. I am amazed at the great technology that's available today to diagnose and treat any problems with the eyes. Dr. V thouroughly went over the text results with me and made my visit with her very comfortable. NO- DON'T GO HERE!!!! Yes, I read the yelps-but, they took my new vision insurance so decided to give them a try & take my 2 sons for their annual exam. Dr. Ku was pretty good, but as a business, they are horrible. They want money, money, money. My insurance said no co-pay and no deductible for the exam, but they charged me $130 per kid. A few days later I get my EOB that shows the insurance also paid $130 per kid. So what they do is collect up front what the insurance is supposed to pay & then hope you don't notice you've overpaid. I called them & they claimed they had not been paid by my insurance yet, but clearly my EOB states they have. Who knows how long I'll have to hassle with them to get my $ back. Then the optical department- a whole different story. EXPENSIVE. Yes, they have a great selection of frames, but for a premium price. They charge for everything- thinner more modern lens material- yeah, the stuff costco uses & charges $39 for.......yeah, that's an extra $60 PER LENS, not per pair. Antireflective lens coating (same stuff you get free at Costco), yeah that's another $62.50 PER LENS, on & on & on. .........$ 462.00 later, my son has his glasses built. They come back & they have the most horrible fish-bowl effect from the material being so curved. Their optical girls don't know anything. She should've informed my son that the size of the frames he picked out would increase this fish-bowl effect. Well, we had to figure that out by our own research after the fact. They just want to sell the most expensive glasses to you, that's it. They most likely get a commission. Save yourself the headache, don't go here. Don't think you'll get any better exam than Costco either. They spend just as little time with you. Go to Costco, pay cash & have them dilate your eyes. You'll be better off. The girls that actually check your vision at Morris don't know what the heck they're doing & my son's both said they were rough & mean to them. NO- DON'T GO HERE!!!! read more

This is not a place to waste your time or money. I agree with most of the bad reviews. What happened to me seems to be commonplace at this office. I have a medical condition with my eyes that does NOT allow lasik. The staff would repeatedly call and ask if I wanted to schedule this surgery every 4 months or so. They took 5 months and 7 office visits to make my new glasses correctly (Dec. thru May). By then they had already billed my insurance and I was stuck using them and could not try somewhere else. Plus I had to live with non-working glasses during that time. Now I'm trying to get my records moved over to another doctor and they want to charge me over $45 to do so. (processing fees, $0.25 cents per page plus some random additional fees.) I have never written a yelp review before, but felt the need to warn others about this place so they would not have the same experiences. read more

I'm reporting this on behalf of my 95-year-old mother who has been a patient at Morris Eye Group. The staff badly needs improvement in "bedside manners." The examining doctor and optician both were very brusk and not at all sensitive to handling an elderly woman. "Come with me," "Sit here," are hardly warm or friendly. Not returning phone calls is also a deadly sign of poor customer service. She can get that kind of service at Walmart. Examiners and opticians need to do more than answer questions; in the case of a 95-year-old, they need to realize she may not have the state of mind to know what to ask. Therefore they should ask her if she has questions and/or give more details without having to be asked. Morris' office failed her badly on those counts. read more

I have to say, I am very surprised by the negative reviews that Morris Eye Group has received on Yelp. My experience was made fantastic because of one of Optical Retail guys named Jeff. I had simple needs; get my contact lens prescription updated and get glasses. I had to make it tough by going out town for 14 days after my initial appointment and purchasing glasses that look just like the ones I already have (decided to exchange them) and also trying to minimize my drive from downtown to Encinitas. Now that you think I am a complete blonde, I want to share with you how amazing Jeff was. He really went above and beyond with his service. He is very pleasant, offered numerous solutions to my annoying circumstance and had a fantastic warmth with every interaction we had. Jeff was patient and kind. I decided to use Dr. Morris for my Lasik surgery. They offered convenient early evening appointments for my pre-surgery consultations. They very clearly and effectively explained every step of the process, from pre- to post-surgery requirements. They did the surgery (both eyes) for a flat fee, then offered next day, 1-week, and 1-month post-op visits. I was somewhere on the order of 20-400 prior to my surgery, with astigmatism. The next day I was 20-15, and one week later I was 20-10. The staff is great and Dr. Morris is a great guy and an excellent surgeon. The whole process from first consultation through the follow-up visits could not have been any better. read more

Just leaving and highly dissapointed from previous visits a couple years ago when dr Goldman was present. I have used this group for myself in the past and been satisfied however this time for my 9 year old son something was missing, a lack of explanations and professionalism were the ever present factors. So sad to say that they overcharged- had incorrect info on my insurance and I refused to pay their eyeglass prices. My insurance covers one pair a year and they wanted to charge me additional $400 for the same glasses that the year before cost $100 out of pocket? My insurance did not change and I did not have a significant change in Rx. I took my prescription to eyebuydirect.com and love my new progressive transition glasses! Good luck! Totally got to agree with the other reviews the wait is endless and I had the same experience in that they put you in front of a TV with magazines and you gradually can't read anything!! What I most irritated about is that they have now asked me to come back 3 Times!! One for the exam, then the MD visit + tests and now to "discuss" the test results. What a horrible experience! I made an appt to take my elderly mother to Dr Morris based on a friends referral. We were the only ones in the waiting room and sat after checking in for over an hour! When I told the front desk lady that we had an appt and had been waiting for ONE hour she actually had the nerve to say she didn't realize we hadn't been seen and that WE should have reminded them. HUH? Really? Exam part was so so. Dr seemed in a hurry. No personality or apology for the poor office management. Went in to have an eye exam and start a relationship with a local eye doctor. Was pleased with Dr Crosby but felt I was up-sold on my lenses. Between the exams and before seeing the doctor, I was lead to the optometry area "now to order your new glasses". I had existing frames, didn't want new ones, $219 for lenses only! The next day I requested to cancel my new lens order, didn't feel good about the transaction, didn't want tinted lens which were highly recommended and wanted to pick up my original frames, untouched. I was told that it can't be done, frames have been sent to lab, no refunds ever! I immediately filed a merchant dispute with my bank. Didn't even receive a new script to take to another optometrist. This office took of our family last year and this year they have lost our business. Our appointment was delayed by over 90min and it was explained that it would be just a few more minutes... It was examined that they were just running late. I also never saw the optomologist but my insurance was billed as if I had. That was the worst doctor's visit I ever had. I had to go through 2 1/2 hours of sales pitches. They wanted to sell me the eye pressure measurement and even after I said that I don't want it they started to tell me that they will do it anyway. I had to mention that if anyone wants to force me into doing it, he needs to be better in Martial Arts than I do. At the end they tried to force me into coming back and doing it then ... I feel like I spend 2 1/2 hours fighting against three people who want to upsell me on exams, bifocal lenses, contact lenses and other things I do not need. In-between the sales pitches I was forced to wait for most of the time and watch cooking shows on TV. The behavior patterns here are insulting to any human being and I would recommend preparing yourself to call the police as soon as they try to harm you. read more

Waited for one hour after my eye test to see the Dr. and she didn't even say "sorry you had to wait so long" A sorry would have gone a long way. Appointment was at 11:30, didn't leave until 1:30. My family have been going here for years. Today was one of the worst experiences. They have 3 steps to their exam. The technician does all the prescription exam, then you see a optician for the glasses or contacts. Then the doc does the final eye exam. After my daughter and I finished meeting with the optician, we waited on the couch for 45 mins. I sat there watching people that came after us go ahead of us. Usually, I would just wait it out, but today was busy day with a relative in the hospital. It made me angry. I spoke up at the office. I know that if I hadn't said something, we would still be waiting now. I don't know how they take files, but they do not care about order. It was ridiculous. I've not gotten glasses here for a while now due to the high markups. This time I brought my own glasses and had the prescription filled. I have VSP insurance which covers the lenses. I was charged $115. I asked to see an itemized receipt and they declined. I then asked the doc about it and she said she doesn't one and that I can get it when I pick up my glasses. Every place I've gone have given me the cost of each add on to my lens except here. tell me how ethical this place is. The only reason my daughter and husband goes here is that my husband likes Dr. Bodman. I will admit, she is a nice lady. But the office is not right in so many ways. read more

Worst experience for eye glasses ever! Both my husband & I had our eyes checked and ordered new frames and lenses for our prescription glasses. His hinge arms froze up on the new Oakley Sunglasses we purchased. He went back and they ordered another frame and after two weeks when he went to pick up, they said they couldn't use the new frames for his prescription and he had to pick out a different frame. He went elsewhere and got the frame he wanted with no problem. My glasses ordered 2 years ago and one of the lenses has popped out 4 times. I've had to bring them back to Morris ever time to get lens put back into frame properly. Today they tell me the frames are fatigued and because they have slight wrap around, they're not really ideal for my presciption. Really??? They sold these to me two years ago and had no problem taking my money then. They've lost our business for both eye exams and frames. Totally unprofessional and by far the worst service & selection. Lens crafters would probably provide better service and expertise. read more

This place royally SUCKS and the wait times are comical, they are so ridiculous! 1.5 hour wait after securing an appointment they gave me two weeks ahead of time. That is the case EVERY TIME I've been in there. My husband also experienced the same thing twice! We are going elsewhere but I just had to rant on here first so you don't get sucked in! Gave me an 8:20 appointment, which is very early in the day. Yet I sat around for well over an hour before I finally had to ask someone to check on why I hadn't yet seen the doctor. At that time, I was told that the doctor would see me in ten minutes. Ten minutes came and went and I was gone. They obviously booked me when there was no way to see me and then just let me sit there without acknowledgment. Place feels way too busy relative to their capacity to handle patient flow. Very commercialized (i.e.: monetized) with me being more of a profit source than a patient (ironic..."patient"). . read more

I had uvitis in my left eye--an autoimmune illness--and my doctor referred me to Morris Eye Group. They treated me over several months and now my eye is completely fine. They really explained everything to me along the way and I felt like I really understood what was happening to me and I knew I could get better. Thanks Morris Eye Group! The only reason its not 5 stars is because they don't keep to your appointment time very well. Be prepared to wait, especially if your appointment is not first thing in the morning. Morris Eye Group knows about EYES. " Nuff said. I always feel they know the best procedures and they have good doctors and I feel well cared for here. The staff, technicians and doctors are top quality. I prefer Dr. Viechnicki hands down. She is thorough and pays close attention. She not only goes over my test results with a fine tooth comb, she also understands that I have a very complex eye RX and I feel that really cares about me. The only thing I would say is that the process to see the doctor often takes time, so if you have a 12:30 appt. you might not get in to see the doc until an hour later. But that's because they do a thorough eye exam. I totally agree with Jen K. and I repost it here. She is RIGHT ON. --NEG-- The only two areas for improvement would be that During a single appointment you are moving from room to room for the different tests and screenings. You are frequently sent back to the patient waiting area until the next person becomes available to see you. It's really just a matter of a slight inconvenience being bounced around during a single appointment instead of being placed in a room where everything done in one spot. So instead of the technicians and doctors coming in and out of your room you are the one going in and out of their various workstations. The only other minor annoyance with this group is that they sometimes try to upsell you on products that you may not need or surgeries and procedures that are cosmetic in nature and not necessary. Their pricing for these products and surgeries are very costly, as are the glasses if you order them through Morris instead of leaving with your prescription in hand and going down the street to Costco. Glasses that would have cost me over $400 at Morris cost just over $100 at Costco. Since my exam is covered 100% by my health insurance the only expense I have for vision correction is the cost of frames and glasses, so as you can see this makes a huge difference when I'm trying to budget for new glasses. Costco is fast and efficient and easy to work with and when my prescription changes they can just swap out the lenses for the new prescription so that I can avoid paying for new frames. read more

I just got LASIK at the Morris Eye Group last week. I was very impressed with their office and the professionalism of their staff. At the same time they made me feel very welcome and comfortable. It seems like a fun place to work and was certainly a great place to undergo this type of surgery. They walk you through the process multiple times and are very thorough in their pre-surgery examinations. Amanda was fabulous and gave us all the information. Dr. Morris is the best. You can tell he is really passionate about what he does which really made me feel at ease about thir surgery. So far the results have been amazing and I only expect it to be better as I heal. This place is worth the drive and the money if you are looking for the best. Also as a bonus lots of good magazines and a tv lounge area while you wait. Very clean and well decorated office. read more
