It's June 24 and it's been 1 month since I ordered my new glasses. Twice, they were sent back to the lab, even before I tried them on, due to incorrect prescription. I'm still without glasses. The staff was professional and courteous. The doctor was great and clearly explained the outcome of my vision exams. He gave me a very good solution for preventing dry eyes. I liked the way the person in the optical department helped select eyeglass frames for me. She had a good idea of the type of frames I liked in color and style that fit my face. I would have been there for hours trying to find something. The only thing that need is improvement is making sure patients are contacted when their glasses arrive. I had to be seen by an eye doctor very soon after telling my primary care physician what I'd been experiencing with my eyes. 3 hours later I had an appointment at the Morris Eye Group. From the time I arrived until the time I left, 2 1/2 hours later, I was treated with kindness and respect. The team worked together to test my eyes in various ways to determine if the situation was critical. Fortunately, all was well. Dr. Bodman told me they now had baselines and would keep a close watch on my eyes. I have an appointment scheduled in 3 weeks and again in 4 months. Dr Katzman was great. He should get 5 stars. The appointment people called a few days before the appointment and told me they were canceling my appointment after I waited 5 weeks. I told them they needed to find some other sucker. Then the skipped the peripheral vision test. Dr Katzman told me to set another appointment. I did, 3 months out. Once again staff earns 1 star. They walked me through every step they took and advised me of everything I would be seeing, regarding and feeling during the procedure. I just had my first appt at this eye group, and was impressed with the kind and efficient employees there. It's a very comfortable office, with many employees each taking their part in the process of your eye exam. You will go from room to room, with different parts of the exam done by different people,then meet with the Dr to review your case. If you prefer a more personal type of experience, I don't think this is it. I was curious about the peripheral vision test. I made the mistake of not checking Yelp when I made an appointment here. It was the first doctor to pop up on my insurance website, and apparently I was feeling lazy that day and didn't do any review research. To add to everyone else's comments - this office takes FOREVER. Leave at least 2 hours for your visit. In summary: 1) First person I saw conducted the normal letter reading and "is this one better or is this one better" exam. I had marked on my form that I was pregnant, and so I did not receive the eye drops to have my eyes dilated. After my exam, the guy goes "Ok, just sit out here while the eye drops dilate your eyes"... and I was like, we didn't do that, and he was like, right, we did not. OK.. so.. 2) Besides the fact that I didn't need to wait to dilate, I waited about 20 minutes to next speak to the optician. Nevermind the fact I still haven't seen a doctor. The optician basically ignored me when I explained I had premium insurance that allows for 2 years worth or contacts. Additionally, contacts were more expensive here than buying online anyway. One thing they did not explain to me, is trying a "trial pair" is committing to purchasing them at the office. I was under the impression that a trial is a trial and not a commitment. I ended up going to BBB to get a refund on a deposit I had put down to "try" the lenses. After the optician, I again was directed to wait in a seat. This time, about 30 minutes. 3) Doctor Ashley Butler was AMAZING and gets FIVE STARS. I wish she wasn't at the office because I want to see here again, but I can't imagine giving this practice business again. Dr. Butler spent a good amount of time with me talking about contacts and my prescription, as well as my pregnancy and gestational diabetes, which can impact vision sometimes. I felt very comfortable with her and her assessments of my vision. Needless to say, I will not be returning to Morris Eye Group. read more

I am a first-time client. The exam process went fine, but when I ordered glasses, nothing but problems. The Encinitas office is desperately under-staffed. I ordered glasses with transition lenses. When I picked them up, it was late on a Friday. Over the weekend I realized that my glasses were not turning dark so I took them back on Monday. Oops - they weren't transition lenses. So nobody had checked before dispensing them. Then I was told they would order replacements. I heard nothing for 2 weeks. Every time I called, I got voicemail. It took multiple calls to get anyone to call me back - never a human answering the phone when I called them. I still don't have the right glasses more than a month after ordering them. The replacement lenses weren't right either, but nobody bothered to let me know. I'm still waiting. Very frustrated. Terrible customer service. read more

Just got off the phone with Chris (or Kris). I booked our eye appointments online last week as we have VSP insurance. I get a call today three days before our appointments from Chris telling me I have to have a referral from my health insurance when I have NEVER had to go through this with any other eye group before when booking an appt and having VSP insurance. I was booked for an ophthalmologist for both myself and spouse...because my spouse has glaucoma. My mom has glaucoma as well. He is a 100% disabled vet who is also legally blind and on dialysis. and I need to take him. Chris, who was unsympathetic and rude, could care less what hoops I had to jump through to even book the appts. She insisted I get a vision exam by an optometrist and of course none were available on the day I booked the appt feb 1. Why not have some sort of list of rules on the website before allowing people to book? I work full time, put in for time off never expecting to be hassled like this. Not right plus the attitude of 'i see you and raise you' was NOT APPRECIATED. Do I want my suffering spouse to deal with this right off the bat let alone myself? No. She said I needed the referral from my doc (health insurance...not eye exam insurance which has always been enough!!) before I could see their opthomalogist. Say that on your website out of courtesy to your customers before they book. I hung up on her due to her attitude. read more

We hate, hate, hate this practice. We left once and out of convenience thought give it another shot. I scheduled for an annual eye exam to get my daughter contact renewal prescriptons. The office scheduled her an appointment with Dr. Zenzen, an ophthalmologist. We waited 2 HOURS to see this doctor. (always long wait no matter what time you go) At the end he couldn't even give her a contact prescription because "ophthamologist" can't write contact prescriptons and all the optometrist have left for the day. The worst part is, they coded the visist under "medical". They not only charged me more because of this "medical" visit, I had to deal with insurance because of ineligible amount I paid with my FSA. Needless to say, we've finally learned our lessons and never went back to them for my daugher's contact prescriptions. Still mad to this date of all the bad experiences we had at that office. read more

I made an appointment after 5 years of absence and they still had all of my records. The office is remodeled and they have some new staff but they are all as friendly as I remembered. I didn't think I had insurance so I paid cash. When I was checking out and giving them my new doctor's name one of the girls went further and detected that I did have insurance so I got my money back. I was really happy. I recently moved to Oceanside and was looking for a new optometrist. I found Morris Eye Group and was able to get an appointment in the Vista office exactly when I needed. This is important because I travel extensively so my schedule is tight. When I arrived at the office the receptionist was very pleasant and welcoming. I completed my new patient paperwork and waited for Dr. Bodeman. Within 15 minutes I was taken by the assistant for my preliminary exam. They were efficient and professional and very friendly. We were through the preliminary exam in 20 minutes. Then I waited to see Dr. Bodeman. In about 30 minutes I was brought to the exam room. The doctor spent a lot more time than I expected getting to know me and my history and finding out about what I wanted for my vision. I had never experienced such in depth care. read more

Visiting an ophthalmologist because my optometrist suggested I was beginning to get cataracts. Staff was friendly and efficient. Handed off to 3 different techs for different work ups (kind of like assembly line medicine). After the work up, I spent some time with Dr. Zenzen, where we reviewed my results and determined I did not need surgery. Total visit took almost 2 hours; it was thorough yet efficient. If you want an eye doctor who will waste your time and money, then look no further. Morris Eye Group is for you. If you don't want to waste your time and money, then go somewhere else. Here's what's good about them: 1) they have great equipment for testing the health of your eye balls. 2) if you have a very early morning appointment you may not have to wait too long. Here's what's not good: 1) They make patients wait a long time before being seen. The last time I was in an elderly woman in a wheelchair had been there 2 hours and was still in the waiting room! 2) They ran my entire eye exam with my contacts in. They didn't ask me to take my contacts out or ask if I was wearing any. Therefore, once they finished all of my eye tests they had to do them over without my contact in! What a waste of time! 3) The photos and scans they took of my eyes when I was dilated weren't usable. No one looked at the final result. By the time the optometrist saw the photos I had to go back and get them taken all over again. Again, another waste of time. In addition, they don't even tell you what they are testing, they just shuttle you between machines and rooms while you're dilated and can't see! 4) I told several people that I wanted my near sighted vision to be tested, too. It was; however, they never gave me the results. I was then distracted by having to go back to have my eye balls photographed and scanned again that I forgot to ask. And they didn't proactively tell me. 5) Even though their website allows you to request an appointment, I was told they never check the system and don't monitor online appointment requests! 6) Jasmine, who fits the glasses is terrible at her job. DO NOT USE HER! I needed new glasses. I told her what I liked and didn't like. She brought a stack of glasses that fell under the "don't like" bucket. There were two that were ok, but I didn't love them. I didn't even like them. She told me there were no other options. I made the mistake and said fine and ordered them. It cost $500+. As I was leaving I saw a wall of glasses that she didn't show to me. Not a single one. I tried on several pairs and found some I loved. I asked for Jasmine, but she was already gone. I left a message with her saying I wanted to get a different pair -- one of the ones she didn't show me. I didn't hear back from her. So the next day I called again. Nothing. Finally, two days later she returned my call and said that I had been informed that I couldn't make changes to my order unless I did it by end of business day -- which I DID! She pretty much said too bad. So now because of her incompetency to do her job well I paid $500 for a pair of glasses I hate and am stuck with for two years! I am not happy! read more
