Crisp bread pancake
James L.

We stumbled upon this restaurant by parking right in front of it. There are pictures of some of their dishes on the window, and some items I've never tried before. That made me decide to come here after running errands nearby. Early afternoon, around 1:30 it wasn't busy, but had a steady flow of solo diners and small parties. Apparently they're busy during the mornings, as a big portion of the menu are breakfast items. I heard the lady tell another table several things were sold out. Food: Beijing zha jiang mein. Good chew on the noodles, with the savory bean paste some fresh veggies. Not bad, and better with their hot chili oil. 3.5/5 Layered pancake with beef, came out hot and crispy. The pancake was crisp and a bit oily. Not much depth of flavor from the beef but also not bad. 3/5 Biscuit with tenderloin, with cumin chicken. Very tender chicken with nice cumin flavor. The biscuit was soft and fluffy. I just wish it was a flaky shell instead, that would've given it better texture. 4/5 Crispy pancake. It's like an egg pancake with a sweet sauce and flaky fried layers of dough. I ate the fried crispy dough by itself and it wasn't good. Tasted like very old oil, so we ended up taking it all out and ate the rest. 2.5/5. The service by the lady with glasses was very pleasant and attentive. The ambiance was fine. Not modern nor dated. We went there after their morning rush so several things we wanted were sold out. The items we did try were fairly decent based on our palate. But they seem to have regular customers that know what they want when they walk in. It's a 3.5 for my experience, but can't really round up to 4. Side note: Their name in Chinese is pretty catchy, and it's a clever play on words

Came in to order for breakfast to-go. They spoke Mandarin but I was able to communicate in broken Mandarin and pointing to the numbers on the English menu. Ordered #25 Taiwanese purple rice roll, #4 Youtiao (deep fried dough stick), #38 Juicy pan fried pork buns, and #7 Ice soy milk with sugar added. Everything was fresh and delicious and my order was enough to share between 2-3 people. They finished preparing my order in about 15 minutes. Restaurant was clean and had indoor seating good for small to larger parties of 6-8 people. Friendly staff. Free street parking right in front of the restaurant if you can find a spot. Highly recommend.

Got in around 11 am on a Saturday and there was still plenty of seating. Felt like a mom and pop shop no music in the background. The server was friendly and got our order in shortly and food came out pretty quickly. Beef roll was solid nice and flaky on the outside not overly oily which was nice . The purple rice I really enjoyed I'm used to the dry white rice but the purple rice was soft and perfect with the dry pork sung and friend Chinese donut in the centers. If in the area I probably come back and try out some other dishes

This is my first time checking out this place in Monterey Park to get breakfast to go. I ordered leek & egg pockets (4 pcs) for $9.49. Chinese leek & egg pockets (or called chives pockets) are pan-fried, semi-circle-shaped, flat dumplings filled with Chinese leek (chives) and scrambled eggs. The portions were reasonable and they had enough leek but the outer layer was not crispy and a bit hard to chew. The service was fast because I ordered by phone so my order was ready for pick up when I got there. The ambiance inside was modern and welcoming. I will give them a second chance and dine in there someday.

Leak pancakes 4 pieces

Cumin Lamb Chow Mein (little Spicy for Americans), but delicious. the pork coin pot stickers ( if no coins will have better taste). The deep fried dough sticker burned, not tasty. The leek egg pockets are taste good even though I donot like the noodles inside. Overall their food have good flavor

Wanted a quick breakfast before our flight and everything in the area didn't open until 11 AM until we found this spot! We ordered a Beijing style soybean paste noodles, purple rice rolls, beef rolls, and pan fried dumplings. I had the noodles and a rice roll and I thought the noodles were delicious. The noodle texture was very Q, however, the paste to noodle ratio was a bit off so it was difficult to mix. The purple rice roll was a great snack, and it had my favorite you tiao (chinese doughnut) and suan cai (pickled mustard greens) inside. A delicious start to the day!

Cold soy milk

Loved their shrimp chow mien. The noodles are handmade and their cold soy milk is freshly made and not that sweet. Egg pancake was decent, the best that I have tasted so far. Xiao long bao was ok, had better elsewhere. Only negative thing I have to say is the dining atmosphere. I'm not sure what system they have for placing customers orders but you can hear the workers at the front yelling to the kitchen in mandarin what orders are being placed and if it was dine in or to go order. It was a constant repeating pattern and you can also hear the workers in the kitchen yelling at each other too. Kitchen lacked structure and organization. Wasn't a pleasant dine in experience and there was no music. Just awkward silence and multiple customers looking towards the kitchen listening to the ruckus. I would still come back but I would get to go. Their parking lot is also very small. Only fits a few cars or you have to find street parking.

Clean Taiwanese breakfast restaurant. Card payments are accepted. Food was good, but their soya milk tasted burnt.

Food safety and hygiene is very questionable. Beware. I would never visit again, the pain is not worth it.

Service here is pretty standard when it comes to your typical Chinese restaurant. You'll have staff designated to your area and they're pretty quick with refilling teapots and any requests. As for ordering, there's a QR code to browse the menu and order. Chinese and English are available so there shouldn't be any problems. Pictures are provided as well through the menu which is a nice plus. Food came out pretty fast, and since we were a 2 table party, each table took turns getting their dishes first. Seafood here is a great option, portions are huge for most dishes, making it perfect to share. My favorite among the dishes is certainly the Walnut Shrimp. It's a classic amongst plenty of Chinese restaurants and Lunasia is up there when it comes to quality. Overall, a decent experience, been here plenty of times for dimsum and it's always quick and quality food. Dinner was decent but nothing too over the top. It was great to go with friends who speak Cantonese because mine is so rusty, I can only understand but not speak these days. I was so hungry I didn't even let my phone eat 1st like the yelped I am, but only remembered to take a photo after we had eaten at least half our plates! Having grown up with NYC and SF dim sum, NBC is one of the few Los Angeles area places that has the selection and flavors of my childhood. Some favorites were the har gow, taro puffs, and tripe. We got the roast duck but it wasn't very meaty or flavorful. We got the congee which was ok, but lacked any definite personality. The chewy fried dumplings were more dough than filling. The siu mai and veggie dumplings were both solid. I didn't try the bitter melon or turnip cakes because I don't like the taste of either, but I was happy to see them available. We got a claypot rice dish with spare ribs and Chinese sausage which was good but the rice was not crispy on the bottom. I saw they had chicken feet, which I usually love but they didn't look appetizing enough to order. Would definitely go back for other dishes and with more people so we could sample more selections.

We got bbq pork buns, steamed and baked, shrimp dumplings, sui mai, fried taro, shrimp roll, congee, and sesame balls. All were really good. If I want to get nit picky, the shrimp dumplings could have had more flavor and the fried taro could have been crispier. As for the positives, the congee was very flavorful and comforting. The sesame balls had a nice bite and it was full of sesame paste. The sui mai was very meaty. And the rice wrapper on the shrimp rolls were silky and the sauce was full of umami flavor. I enjoyed my experience here as everyone was really nice and took care of my family. We got here right when they opened so the restaurant was calm. More people came when we left so it naturally got noisier. Since it was a party of 3 and a baby for me, we were seated at a four-person table. But they really try to pack people in so I imagine it can get pretty tight. So if you and your party can wake up early enough to get there right when they open, then do so to have an easier experience with parking, getting a table, and getting food. I imagine that as more people come in, it'll be harder to flag down carts.

Perfect family dim sum experience for us…read more We took out my parents and in-laws for dim sum: my parents' very first time ever. We did wait about an hour, but honestly I didn't mind at all because it gave us a chance to relax, talk, and catch up as a family. Once we were seated, my parents were immediately impressed with the decor: elegant and cultural without feeling overly modern or cold. And can we talk about the tea kettles? They looked like literal pieces of art being poured at the table. Ordering was super easy with the QR code system, so my husband handled the whole spread: shumai dumplings, chicken feet, sesame balls, and more. Everything came out hot, fresh, and beautifully plated. The ENTIRE table agreed on one thing: the chili oil condiment deserves to be sold in bottles to take home. It was that good. Smoky, just the right amount of spicy, and addictive. Now for the real test: my in-laws. They've been to *many* dim sum places and are not easily impressed. They declared this place to have the best chicken feet that they've ever had: meat easily sucked off the bone, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and perfectly seasoned. High praise coming from dim sum veterans. Most importantly, my parents' first dim sum experience couldn't have been better. They were the first to serve fresh & tasty dim sum to-go for a reasonable price at good value due to their big portion sizes. However, my son & I, went there recently & ordered the usual Siu Mai, Baked BBQ Bun & Steamed BBQ bun. We usually call in our orders in advance to avoid the long wait outside but this time things seem off. Firstly, the lady cannot understand our order & we were put on hold while there seem to be a banter between her & a gentlemen inside for sometime. Secondly, when we finally got there & picked up the order, one of the items given was wrong. Instead of Char Siu Bao, we had Har Gow. So, we waited for another 15 minutes more to get the correct item. When we got home & opened the bags, the Siu Mai had gotten smaller & the worst part is that one of the Baked BBQ Bun had a cockroach pressed on the outside layer of the bun (see picture). I tried to contact the owner first to let them know so it can be corrected before posting it here but no one called. I know that this can affect their "safety food rating" & thus their sales. But if there was indeed a change in management or ownership, they need to fix the sizing portion & bug problem so they could live up to the history & expectations of their loyal clientele.
